Hi everyone, can not believe I've not been on for ages and the usual suspects are all being very quiet with their x100 daily knicker checking! Have dived on for a quick check whilst DH at supermarket and DD in the bath (she always seems to be having a bath when I?m on here

Welcome to vjay villagemum and mumface - here?s to happy event free healthy pregnancies! I?m trying to remember 10 yrs back so am definitely delusional according to DH.

maz I was found to be a strep b carrier when pg with DD as hospital were doing a clinical trial. She ended up poorly in ITU following delivery with a supposed chest infection ? they didn?t marry up my result with her for a few days though so it could in theory have been related. This time round I have a big yellow sticker in my notes stating treat with antibiotics in labour ? they?re not going to bother retesting me, just treat as if I am. It?s probably to do with individual hospital / consultants policies. Have you asked to see their written policy, it may give you some guideline.

Have a lovely hogmanay and New Year everybody and here?s to some good news in 2009!

mumface · 30/12/2008 21:41

maz I am also a strep B carrier, discovered in my 1st pregnancy when i had urine infections.I was given antibiotics without being tested in my 2nd labour as a precaution. They r doing the same this time. They have to be administered at least 4 hours b4 b birth to be effective, my last labour lasted just over 4 hours, so I'm worried this one will be quicker.

VJay · 31/12/2008 12:49

They found that I had strep B after my last mc, so had antibiotics to clear it up. Will ask my doctor about it when I see her on Monday.

Happy hogmany and New Year everyone....heres to a lovely sober one xx

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 31/12/2008 14:50

Hi folks - congratulations and welcome to the mad house to vjay, villagemum & mumface. May your days be uneventful and symptom- filled (though they do like to come and go just to really screw with your sanity ).

maz - I too had strep B (cultured from the umbilicus of my first lost lo), was reswabbed numerous times (all -ve btw) and had the great big yellow "Give Abx ASAP" sticker for the whole time I was pg with ds, and was duly given them when I went into labour. I was told you have a single +ve result, then you are treated as a carrier for all your remaining pgs. Have had no screening whatsoever with this pg, and no mention of Abx. I am having an elective cs though so would expect some prophylactic Abx to be given in any case.

I really think that it depends entirely upon the protocol that your hospital has developed. Benchmarking, evidence-based practice and NICE guidelines are supposed to eliminate any variations in practice, but in reality they don't seem to do so.

vjay - they should have some leaflets on GBS that will explain it all to you should you need treatment this time too. Plus there is a good GBS support website if you, or anyone else, needs it.

Xmas was a bit of a strange one - I started with the dreaded lurgy on Xmas Eve, and spent Xmas Day hacking my lungs up and blowing my nose loudly & was in bed by half nine. Boxing Day was non-existent and now ds is suffering with it. Bless his little red nose and watery eyes!

dan - going for the v v quiet NYE experience. Don't think dh will argue as he has been sleeping in ds's bed for the last two nights whilst he bunks in with me and we sniffle the night away together. DH says he is knackered (don't know why after 2 FULL nights sleep, but hey, he's a bloke and therefore a softie by definition )

Now, I am going to have to be really strict with myself as I have only got 6 weeks to do 3 assignments for uni, so any prolonged absence from MN should not be worried over. I am going to allow myself one lurk a week to stay on top of things and make sure that everyone is getting along ok. dan - you get your studious arse in gear too lady - don't make me come over the Pennines to crack the whip !!

Have started to get things together for hospital (still refuse to have everything I need or pack bag as feels like I am tempting fate) & see CMW on the 8th & will find out cs date on 28th. Am truly amazed have got this far and managed to cling on to the last vestiges of my sanity. It seems so long ago that found out was pg, but also as though it was just yesterday in a mad kind of way. Although I know the home straight is still a way off, I just want to say a big thank you to all of you on here for the support, advice and reality checks you have given me over the last few months.

Better go and try to explain again to ds that it is not attractive to wipe one's snotty nose on one's dark blue t-shirt sleeve .

Have a great NYE everyone, however & wherever you are spending it. Take care and see you on my weekly visits from now on.

dan39 · 31/12/2008 18:29

Hello all - hope you are all well. I saw babe yesterday at my scan - they were scanning to see if the placenta had moved out of the way of the exit - and it has! If I am honest my first response was 'dammit' as my friend has a cs last week and it all went swimmingly - I have been making dh do perineal massage and it kinda hurts (a wee bit - I like it too!!... and i think, if THAT hurts how am I gonna manage labour! I looked at my friends' brand new gorgeous 7lb 11oz dd and said 'she is huge' to which friend replied 'she is tiny!' but she didin't have to get it out thru her chuff, did she!!

Anyway the scan was lovely - there is a big buggering baby in there! I saw her face really clearly, dh could only make out a thigh bone...

I can't believe I am going to have this baby. Have finished work and January is full of midwife, health visitor, hospital tours and other baby related appointments! Like mwmmf I need to say thank you to you all for getting me thru the last 34-odd weeks, I really could not have gotten here without the humour and support! I was a newbie when snoop/justjules was at my sort of stage and I remember reading her posts in awe and thinking I would never get to that point - and here I am!

Not sure what to do about hb plans. To cut a long story short I found out yesterday that as I am between 2 diff trusts I am in 2 diff systems - one trust covers community midwifery and they will be responsible for hb. BUT if I need to transfer to hosp in the middle (whether thru complications, fear, or whatever) then they take me there, but can't continue with me due to protocols - they can't practice in a different trust. So I would not have continuity of care, which I was really keen on. I could go to the other trust and keep them with me but I know lots of staff there and would rather not...not sure what to do. Also getting more scared of the process anyway and thinking I might end up actively choosing hosp, try to go for the 6 hour stay. Any advice? Will read some birth stories on here too I guess..

Sorry for long me-me-me post but I have had withdrawal symptoms!!

maz32 · 02/01/2009 14:19

hi everyone happy new year all!!can u believe we r going to give birth this year!!!xx

mermaidspurse · 02/01/2009 15:31

Hello ladies, mind if I tiptoe in? I have one ds who is 7 and then 3mc, the last in September 08. So at last I was sent off for tests and appointments which will all come back on the 12 Jan and I have gone and got myself pregnantsomehowIt took me 18 months to fall last time and I had almost decided that time had run out for me at 40. I did a test on the 22nd and have spent Christmas in a blur which was not baileys induced as normal! Kicking myself that I hav'nt got test results just in case there is something glaringly wrong.
So snap and hello to villagemum big waves and to vjay I confess that I need my hand held too, a lot and marmalade toast.

VillageMum · 02/01/2009 17:16

mermaid, great to see you here - glad you found it! I replied on the other thread but just to say welcome!

mermaidspurse · 02/01/2009 18:50

thank you,you are the first person to say 'great news', no one in rl knows and it feels like the elephant in the room at the moment. hopefully it'll be me that looks like one before long! Masses of us going out for a Thai tonight but might have to ask for marmalade on toast...
Have a nice cosy evening with your feet up and last of Christmas choccies.x

daisyj · 02/01/2009 19:21

Hi everyone - Happy New Year!

Welcome to Vjay, VillageMum and mermaid. You couldn't be in a better place for handholding and fantastic advice.

Here's to a fantastic year full of babies . Thank you so so much to everyone - you are such a wonderful warm and funny bunch of ladies, and it's just been a HUGE comfort to be able to reap the benefit of your wisdom at the click of a mouse.

Oh, and I've just posted a 27+5 bump pic in case anyone wants to feast their eyes on my rotundness! I never imagined when I lost our first lo in March that I would be in this position so quickly, and I feel totally grateful every day [over-emotional emoticon]

xx

VillageMum · 02/01/2009 19:22

mermaid, we haven't told anyone in RL yet either and won't till the first trimester is over (I feel superstitious about even saying that!) It IS great news though and I'm so pleased for you. By the time your test results come through on 12 Jan you will be 7 weeks in any case! (think you said on the other thread that you are 6 now?) Will you be having an early scan? I will be (on 10 Jan) and have resigned myself to being petrified till then. And after. Oh this is not easy but we will get through it! Thinking of you. x

olivo · 02/01/2009 19:30

hello all. i hope you don't mind me dropping by from time to time but having spent a bit of time with Villagemum and vjay holding my hand on the ttc threads, I like to keep an eye ! hope all is well with everybody though. I'm fine, feeling pretty rough and as anxious as ever but will be back to work next week so be a bit distracted at least!!

VillageMum · 02/01/2009 19:36

daisyj that is one impressive and very beautiful bump!

daisyj · 02/01/2009 19:38

Why, thank you VillageMum, I am rather proud of it myself . I look back on my 22-week pics and laugh - I thought I was so big - little did I know...

tsom · 02/01/2009 20:45

ha daisyj that is a big bump - and still 12 weeks to go

Fozzie78 · 02/01/2009 22:27

Hi everyone his is my first time on this thread which was recommended by daisyj ive spent the last hour or so reading it and you all sound so lovely. I've had 2 MMC's in Jan and Oct last year, I found out I am pregnant again just after xmas, very very happy until today (scared also), I have had slight back ache all day and tonight I seen brownish blood, im so scared as this is how my previous 2 MC started, has anyone had similar experience and everything been okay?

daisyj · 03/01/2009 10:15

Hi Fozzie - Hope you're OK today. I definitely had the backache at around 5 weeks on and off till 7 - it really scared me at first. Lots of the ladies on here have had some bleeding early on.

Really hope you're OK today. If all isn't Ok, please don't disappear as there are loads of people here who can give you great advice about what to do next.

xx

daisyj · 03/01/2009 10:19

tsom - I know - do you think I might be the first woman on record to actually go 'pop'? We have small babies in our family (6-7 lbs), but DH has pointed out that he was 8ibs12 with a really big head. Ouch. His mum's the same size as me (5'3" and petite), so needless to say he was a c-section. Hmmm...

VJay · 03/01/2009 10:28

Hi fozzie, I had 2 mc's last year, and am now 6 weeks pg, but I had some brown discharge yesterday which totally freaked me out and has upset me greatly. I am seeing my doctor on Monday so will tell her about it and try and get a scan booked soon. In the meantime I am feeling sooo sick, it peaks just before mealtimes, then dissapears for about an hour once I've eated, then starts again. I wasn't like this with my last two pgs, and really want to take it as a good sign.
Well off to knicker check for the 20th time this morning

ready2pop · 03/01/2009 10:56

Hi, can I join you?

I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks at the end of November and got a BFP yesterday - think I am about 5 weeks. I'm thrilled we've managed tc again so quickly but terrified of miscarrying again.

Also, I had horrible flu just before Christmas and took lemsip and a cough medicine called actifed. Have just checked and you aren't supposed to take either if pg so now panicking about that too.

downbutnotout · 03/01/2009 11:35

Well, I have finally got my act together to make a decent post and here is the updated version of the last list I could find. I?ve taken the liberty of removing a few of the graduates. Welcome to villagemum, vjay, mumface, mermaidspurse, fozzie and ready2pop - you are all absolutely in the right place. We have many paranoid but lovely miscarriers here and we are having babies now. You wait ? it will happen to you too!

herbaceous - congrats on the scan and I hope you are feeling happier about your test results now.

wmmc - good luck with the studying.

dan - aaargh ? we?re nearly there! Glad to hear your placenta is now co-operating. I have four more days at work next week (sigh) but will then be putting my feet up in earnest . Haven?t managed to persuade my dh to take an interest in perineal massage though. I have packed my hospital bag. All the nappies and sleepsuits in the house haven?t managed to convince me that I?m actually having a baby though. I have been doing hypnobirthing training with the aim of a pain-free labour (!!) ? I?ll let you know how that one goes.

Fozzie78 · 03/01/2009 12:56

Hi thanx everyone, i still have brown discharge today but back pain gone and have no cramps, I will book in with doctor on monday xx

Fozzie78 · 03/01/2009 13:01

Wishing you luck for monday vjay xx

VJay · 03/01/2009 13:02

I rang the emergency doctor today, and they said to take it easy for a couple of days and to call them back if it gets worse. I knew they would say that, but I wanted it recoreded on my notes that I'd rang, as if it goes wrong again this will my 3rd consecutive mc . Lets hope not!
I'm not going to add myself to your lovely list just yet, but will hopefully soon

Fozzie78 · 03/01/2009 13:06

I did exactly the same thing, I rang and they said get plenty of rest and go to A&E if I get pain and bleeding gets heavy if not then I have to visit GP on monday, same old same old. De ja vu im thinking....this will be my 3rd consec too. My fingers are double crossed for us. Take it easy im thinking of you xx
