Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not sure I can get to the docs tomorrow with DS got things on all morning. (It is sooo difficult to get an emergency appointment, let alone one that would fit in with all th eother stuff going on tomorrow!) Could go to walk in clinic I suppose...

I am hoping I have immunity as he supposedly had it when he was quite small, and DD also had it last summer but panicking slightly. The mw did loads of blood tests at the booking in to check for immunity to things. I haven't had the results back yet. I wonder if they tested for it and whether she could look my results up?

SwalisWantsaPeacefulChristmas · 08/12/2008 22:01

I've not had time to catch up on today's posts but I thought that I'd come and let you all know that my 20 week scan went well today. All was well with bean and my consultant appointment went well. I've even been told that I can give birth on the birthing unit rather than labour ward if I wanted to as long as I can get to 37 weeks this time. Bean had similar proportions to DD - a slightly small head, a huge tummy and short legs!

I also managed to go back to work today after about two months off for severe morning sickness and keeping on fainting. My day went rather well although I was very molly coddled so we'll have to see how things go tomorrow. I feel much better mentally just for going back to work and feeling like I've managed to contribute to society.

dan39 · 08/12/2008 23:39

I would ring them, cece just to be sure. Am squeezing hand hard - its all a bit rubbish at the moment but bear in mind this day will pass, and others will too. (In fact have just noticed the time and it probably has already - sorry

scotlass 2pm...and DANCING!!! Wow...you rock, girl. And yes deffo big tummy in posh frock in March, you will feel fantastic!!

Did anyone see @Growing Babies' on BBC 4 tonight - fascinating but also scary cos kind of about how tenuous pregnancy can be - and as we all know here, ain't that the truth. Was bizarre to watch whilst lo twiched and danced in my tummy. (spot the examples of my all new, all singing, all dancing positive thinking...dancing not kicking...)

Wheely I also had inlaws invading visiting for the weekend, it was hard work. She offered to come up for a week to help with the lo...I just smiled weakly whilst trying to come up with tactics whereby I can claim to be coping well enough to say no thatnks, but not well enought that they can stay over when they come to meet her when she is born...

Speaking of 'she' I am now paranoid that they got it wrong and its a boy and I have got all sorted emotionally for a girl... (clearly don't have enough real things to worry about right now...)

Also will be asking some of you experienced mums some hard labour questions soon so gird your loins everyone!

cece · 09/12/2008 08:34

Ask away on the labour questions. I have done it with and without drugs so I know which I am going for this time!

I am waiting to phone the day assesment unit at 9 am. The community midwives who I phoned at 7.30 told me to phone them for advise about the slapped cheek.

I am not sure how I am going to fit it all in today. Also got a leg was booked, vets appointment for cat on her last legs (so can't really miss it), DS home sick from school and a trip to visit Sanat booked for 5 pm this afternoon with a load of friend (may have to cancel coz of DS) . Oh and DH is upstairs in bed ill too! LOL it would be funny really wouldn't it?

joyfuleyes · 09/12/2008 08:43

cece it is one of the things they tested me for after I lost the baby - I'm immune & have never had it nor know anyone who has had it, I thnk most adults are immune. I hope they can reassure you.

I know it is going to be really tough for you for a while now, you will get through it. Good luck for your scan too.

Had a good scan yesterday (sorry I didn't update I'm so knackered I went to bed pretty much as soon as I got home). The consultant is happy with the growth (I was 15+3 & baby measured between 15+2 and 15+5). She can't see me next week (no clinic) but has booked me in for another scan on the 22nd which will hopefully get me through Christmas. She's asked me to stop the anticoagulants while they check me clotting & platelets (I've had a few bruises) which feels a bit scary I've also weaned my 2yo & have huge sore boobs but he's already sleeping better.

cece · 09/12/2008 08:55

Oh joyful that is great news about your scan. Now you can worry about the next one!

I am hoping I am immune. The GP surgery have asked me to come in for end of surgery so they can look at DS to try and confirm my diagnosis. They did say something about a blood test... Will phone mw in a min too. School don't want him as they have a pg teacher... I wanted to scream down the phone and YEAH SO AM I! but they don't know yet!

joyfuleyes · 09/12/2008 10:10

cece what did the midwife say?

cece · 09/12/2008 12:17

What a morning!

Had my legs waxed.
DS seen by GP - it is almost certainly slapped cheek.
I have had a blood test.
The cat has been to the vets and the prognosis was so bad she has been put to sleep .

I now have to wait a week for the blood test results.
Think I'll have a cup of (decaf) coffee now!

ronshar · 09/12/2008 12:30

CECE I just wanted to come on and say I am thinking of you this week. I remember how it was last year. Be strong and you will get through it. I hope your DS & DH are better very soon.

herbaceous · 09/12/2008 12:38

Oh cece! I'm so sorry about your cat. I'm such a softie about my boys, I can't imagine how sad you must be.

As for all the rest, bleeding hell. Just sit tight, assume everything will be alright, and soon it will be all passed...

kate2179 · 09/12/2008 13:23

Cece was just swinging by to tell you that you are in my thoughts this week, and I've just seen how much you have to cope with atm! Ridiculous!! So sorry to hear about your cat I have no odea how I will cope when if something happens to our dogs (denial ) I'll be lurking for your blood test results, when's your next scan? Sending {{{BIG HUGS}}} xx

dan39 · 09/12/2008 13:44

Oh cece poor you with the cat. WQhat a day and its only lunchtime! And I was feeling sorry for myself cos I can't reach my feet to cut my toenails....

Wheely is right, if the blood test shows an worries they will monitor you really closely. No point saying don't worry - have a cake with that coffee!! (and look on the bright side - waxed legs should not be underestimated in their importance! (Just ask my feet....)

swali and joyful congrats on good scans, as mentioned above you can worry about the next ones now!

S0 - birth - how was it for you? We want a hb as I feel I want it to be more than just medical and worry that in hosp you become part of a conveyor belt, and the stats show more intervention etc if you are in a hospital setting. Dh is less convinced but coming round - he was a bit rubbish during the hosp bit of the mmc in beig asssertive - don't get me wrong, he was LOVELY with me but not any good with the 'people in uniform' as I think he felt they 'must be right' which worries me as I am more inclined to think the opposite! I even think that you are more inclined to do what you are told and lie on your back in hosp, even tho its not the best posititon, again just because of that institutionalised feeling.

I think all the pain relief is a bit potentially rubbish too which scares me - not even a headache tab all the way thru the pg then they offer you an opiate in the form of pethidine! Gas and air sounds worth a go, epidural sounds dangerous and as if it takes all 'taking part' away...but until recently I have been saying I want a baby not a birth. So I am confused and worried that I won't be able to cope with the process and the length of time, and the pain.

Sorry about the me me me bit but I have 8 weeks left and am scared...

Wheelybug · 09/12/2008 14:50

Cece -sorry things haven't improved today. At least it sounds like the doctors are going to do the right tests etc. Fingers crossed you are immune. Sorry about your cat too.

Dan - I had problems with my first pregnancy so my delivery of dd was somewhat unconventional (induction at 37 weeks which failed leading to emerg. c-sec) so am probably not the person to advise you. Other than to say, despite having wanted a natural birth using aromatherapy oils, at the end of the day dd being ok at the end of it all was all that mattered. Go for the homebirth/ natural birth etc (I am intending to go for as natural as possible this time too) but its not the end of the world if it doesn't work out how you planned.

Just seen midwife - all fine so far. Heard the heartbeat and baby was kicking away. Size confirmed as a good size (although this may have just been based on fundal height which actually was fine with dd despite her teeny-ness), blood pressure fine. So, next stop scan next friday when I will be 28 weeks.

dan39 · 09/12/2008 15:12

Thanks wheely and you are right 0 want us all to be okay!

28 weeks wow - kinda want some of you to catch up with me!!

Ronny nice to see you hope things are good!! And herb - hows things with you?

cece · 09/12/2008 19:34

Thanks for all your kind messages and waves to ronshar.

A better afternoon here. Been to see Santa in his Grotto, which was lovely, a shame DS missed it but DD loved it.

I have my 17 week scan tomorrow and so will hope to talk to cons about slapped cheek a bit too.

snoopdog · 09/12/2008 21:24

BIG LOVE TO EVERYONE HERE,

CECE, I AM THINKING ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL HOPE THIS WEEK,

WHAT A TOUGH TIME FOR YOU ALL XXX

downbutnotout · 09/12/2008 21:48

cece so sorry things are rough. My heart goes out to you about your cat - I still miss my boys (met a bad end in the traffic a couple of years ago).

dan - wheely gives very sound advice there - I wanted a home birth with dd and ended up being transferred to hospital where I delivered naturally anyway. Try not to get too hung up on your perfect birth (I'm a fine one to talk I know) as it is too easy to be hard on yourself if things just don't go your way. I know I was. Sometimes they don't and the important thing is meeting your lovely baby. I'm doing my best myself to focus on my ds and not on the home birth I won't have - I know I'm making the right decison for his safety and that's the important thing. About pain relief - I got dd out with just some gas and air, but there are no medals for doing so!! If you need pain relief, again don't beat yourself up for taking it. Obviously I am in favour of home birth but I think it's important to prepare yourself fully for it - I'd recommend any birthing books by Sheila Kitzinger or Janet Balaskas. And don't do what I did: read them and actually practise the exercises, don't just put them on your bedside table and hope it will go in by osmosis!

downbutnotout · 09/12/2008 21:49

And congrats on good scans swali and joyful!

scotlass · 09/12/2008 22:45

quick post, am knackered and really need to get to bed.

cece my thoughts are with you, this must be such a tough week for you. Poor you with everything going on as well. Good thing is slapped cheek is something like 4th most common childhood disease and as your DS has had it before hopefully you're immune. definately worth talking to your consultant about though. Good luck tomorrow

ronny and snoop it's lovely to "see" you both, hope motherhood isn't too exhausting

dan I will come on tomorrow and bore you with DD's birth details but am too brain dead to think straight and remember tonight. Basically I was glad I was in hospital though as she was poorly post birth and got taken to SCBU then ITU. Don't be scared, best thing to do in labour and birth is have an open mind and go with the flow, you look like you've been finding your inner hippy by reading the birth books

wheely nearly 28wks - wow!!!

Have to announce - have made it to 21wks today and have a very sticky out tummy .

joyfuleyes · 10/12/2008 08:26

Cece thinking of you today - hope the scan & consultant are reassuring.

Scotlas - 21 weeks is great well done!

Sure enough I'm a mess again today - last night was awful, lots of flashbacks. It was a Wednesday that I became convinced (& was right) that the baby had died lat time, can't shake the doom today.

cece · 10/12/2008 14:31

All well at scan - can't believe it was as had convinced myself it would be a repeat performance to last year!

The slapped cheek is something not to worry about too much apparently - 'we can treat it, if you do have it, but no signs on the scan'

I have even been told to have a glass of champagne at the wedding we are attending at the weekend. (That is if we are well enough - still got DH and DS ill in bed )

joyfuleyes · 10/12/2008 16:20

Cece that's fabulous! That's really cheered me up

sausagemcgrah · 10/12/2008 19:16

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing good.

I'm a bit worried as I had a bleed yesterday evening. It was a sudden smallish gush of watery blood. Then pinkish when I wiped for the next couple of hours, but nothing since. I've got a scan next Tues, as they don't like to do them here before 6 weeks. Has anyone had anything similar to this? As you can imagine, I'm not holding out too much hope. Boo hiss. Not again....

Wheelybug · 10/12/2008 19:18

good news Cece ! So pleased all is well.

Can I get the award for doing the silliest preggo-head thing ? DIdn't feel like breakfast before taking dd to nursery and when I came back I was freezing so decided I wanted something hot. Instead of opting for the healthy porridge option I went for a (well cooked of course) fried egg sandwich (). It was only when I was sitting in the hairdressers later that I suddenly realised I hadn't checked the best before date..... and I am not known for my regular clearing of the fridge. I thought they'd be at least in December but they were BB 30 November . DH assures me that you can tell when eggs are off as they smell and I know my Mum swears by being able to eat eggs for ages after the BB date but still..... what an idiot.

Wheelybug · 10/12/2008 19:19

Sorry - x-post sausage. Sorry to hear about the bleed. Don't have a similar experience but loads of the girls on here (and on other threads) have had bleeds that have meant nothing. Could it be implantation ? Will keep fingers crossed.
