Oh funtime I am so, so sorry to hear your news. Arse indeed. Do what you need to to get through the next bit and we will look forward to welcoming you back with some good news?

dan39 · 24/10/2008 17:34

Hello wmmc - I trust you have had a full and productive day, good girl to resist 'popping in at lunchtime'

So - tell me, Bee or Chameleon? Apart from the cost bit which is of course huge - do you think a Bee does the whole job then, rather than the other with the carrycot thingy? I am due in Feb and worry about lo not beign cosy enough...mind you what do I know?

swali let us know how you get on, fingers getting sore from being crossed..

dan39 · 24/10/2008 17:39

Sussex and acqua good luck for Mon in case I forget. We have socialising to do this weekend which will undoubtedly get in the way of my important MNing!!

roquefort how did the interview go? I had one for my 'dream job' in June, but i was 7 weeks pg and fully expecting it to go down the toilet (the pg not the job) so was pleased to get the interview. Then they postponed it til supposedly Sept and I pulled out as I would not have qualified for any paid mat leave - boo! I know the (man) who got it and I think he will be good but not as good as me!! TBH I don't think I would have given the role what it deserves as all I want to do is still ands feel my tummy move these days...??!

Swaliswan · 24/10/2008 17:45

All was well. Only one baby but it performed beautifully, playing with it's cord and waving at us! I'm actually 2 days behind my dates so I'm due on 25th April. No idea why I'm so big! My excuse is that baby has a big belly!

SparkyMalarky · 24/10/2008 18:03

funtime - am so sorry hon. Take some time to rest and see you back here very soon I hope.

Swali - Hurrah such good news!

Good luck and sticky thoughts from me too for the monday scans (I never get to MN enough at the weekend)!!

sussexoldspot · 24/10/2008 19:14

I'll second that Hurrah for you, swali - just fantastic news!

Ooh, yes roquefort, what did happen with the job?

ladyhelen2 · 24/10/2008 19:22

Hi all. Back with an update on my nuchal today.
Felt strangely calm leading up to it which was wierd. After an hour of the sonographer trying to get baby into correct position - boy it was lively! - we got our downs odds. 1 in 29. I am 38 tomorrow so was expecting relatively low odds but to be honest, I didn't think they would be as low as that. Poor Dh fainted. I am now over the initial shock and have decided to go for CVS on Tuesday. If you translate 1 in 29 its a 96.5% chance all will be normal. I think I just have to know. I really don't know what we will do if we turn out to be that 3.5%. I can't decide on that until we know one way or the other.
Am going to start another thread about CVS but if anyone on here has any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Wheelybug · 24/10/2008 19:25

Great news Swali. I have a huge bump for dates too - did with dd too and she turned out to be 4 lbs 9oz so I guess its just the way I carry them...

LadyHelen - how worrying but you're right to think of it in percentage terms. 2 of the ladies on my March antenatal thread had cvs (actually I think they both ended up having an amnio - this is the later one isn't it ??) - in both cases all were fine. My DH's wife had a CVS and all was fine too. Thinking of you and your DH.

ladyhelen2 · 24/10/2008 19:34

Thanks Wheelybug. There is a lot of positive things I've heard about CVS so am hoping it will tell us one way or another. I hope we dont have to wait for an amnio but I understand that a CVS is not always possible.

Just one thing if your DH's wife had a CVS, what does that make you????

LoobyLou any news from your nuchal? Hoping your odds are better than mine. xx

LackaDAISYcal · 24/10/2008 21:25

funtimewincies. Take care and hopefully you'll be back here soon.

and sorry you didn't get a good result from your nuchal ladyhelen . No advice but there have been loads of threads on here where things were perfectly fine inspite of low odds, and a 96.5% of all being well seems like good odds when you say it that way. Good Luck with the cvs, but sorry you have to endure a few weeks more worry

Re prams...I got my Phil & Teds sport double on Tuesday and I love it to bits already, with only one baby in it!

I opted for no screening when pregnant with DD and again this time around. Teh miscarriages skewed my thoughts on testing. I knew we wouldn;t terminate a pregnancy following any result we had, so decided we'd rather not know. My age is "advanced" as well so my risks would have been high on that fact alone!

cece, I'm rooting for you lovely, but I know that your hard stage is going to be around 18 weeks. It's good that you're getting some counselling about whether or not to test though.

Wheelybug · 24/10/2008 21:38

OMG - LOL - I can't believe I wrote that Ladyhelen - What I meant was 'my brother's wife'. Honestly, my preggo brain is useless at the moment ! Sorry that explanation is probably a lot more boring than you'd hoped !

Back on a serious note - I hope the time passes quickly for you and that they are able to do the cvs.

SesHasapinkline · 24/10/2008 21:44

Hi!
Sorry I've not posted for a few weeks. Moving house went well and now have laptop and internet access back.

I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday so trying (not v successfully) not to get paranoid about another mmc.

Sorry not caught up properly on everyone else's updates. Will go away and read...

LackaDAISYcal · 24/10/2008 21:47

lol wheelybug, I was trying to figure that one out

roquefortlover · 24/10/2008 22:12

Quick update for dan and sussex - I got the job! However am now a bit worried as it is only a 1yr contract and I prob. will only be able to do half...Not looking fwd to that conversation!

As AF was only due today i think I can say in all fairness I didn't know I was pg when i applied/accepted but I think i will have to fess up after early scan all being well. feel a bit about it already tbh...

joyfuleyes · 24/10/2008 22:24

Swaliswan, congratulations you can breathe now!

Ladyhelen I'm sorry you didn't get the news you wanted I have been in exactly the same position, with my dd we had a very high risk of DS (>1 in 20). I was young & shocked & we had a CVS without really thinking (it was fine, abdominal, not really painful & a couple of days of bedrest, we got the provisional results really quickly) and all was well ... I think I had that arrogance of youth where you don't really believe anything bad will happen to you. In subsequent pregnancies I've declined DS screening because it wouldn't change the outcome for us, once you start down the screening road it is very hard to stop until you have a definite answer.

I really feel for you - the loss rate for CVS is often quoted at 1-2% but is actually much, much lower than that if you get someone really experienced (I had Keith Harrington who trained with Prof Nicolaides & works at the Portland).

I think I'm 9 weeks today - the scan on Monday is quite a milestone for me because it is where everything started to go wrong with my first loss ... v. scared, still only mild symptoms (I'm not even that tired)

joyfuleyes · 24/10/2008 22:25

roquefort congrats about the job

joyfuleyes · 24/10/2008 22:26

Funtime ~ I'm so sorry, I missed your message, take care I hope you're back here soon.

bunnyinheadlights · 24/10/2008 22:27

sorrry funtime to hear about your news. try to do your best to make yourself as comfortable as possible and treat yourself to what you feel like, be it re-runs of your favourite dvds, yummy treats etc. take care of yourself and i wish you good luck for future baby dust.

ladyhelen try not to worry but that's much easier said than done. lady at work had similar result - she decided not to do cvs or amnio but am happy to report that she has a very healthy and gorgeous baby boy - but it did play on her mind for the rest of the pg. hopefully the cvs will give you some peace of mind. fingers crossed and hugs to you. x

bunnyinheadlights · 24/10/2008 22:31

congrats swali on the good news

i can't believe how many other mums had the pliko and didnt like it! dont know what the main differenes between the bee and cameleon are. i started out looking at the frog and realised it's been replaced - considered getting a second hand frog as they are cheaper than cameleons but decided that it was false economy. i also bought a lighter buggy when dd was 18 mths so the M&P pram was the poorest investment i have made!

cece · 24/10/2008 22:48

ladyhelen after my high risk result last year I found these people very helpful. They have a helpline which allows you to talk things through.. I understand what a worry it is though

ladyhelen2 · 25/10/2008 14:40

bunny wheelybug joyful and everyone , thank you for your supportive messages. I have been doing lots of research and am now content with our decision to do the CVS. Like you said joyful once you start down the screening route its very difficult to stop. It would play on my mind the whole time so I just have to know. IF there are any susbequent pregnancies for me (thats a big IF!) I don't think I would do the nuchal again. Its like playing the roulette wheel. I hope that by this time next week though I will know one way or another with this one.

Seshasapinkline good luck with your scan on Tuesday.

sussexoldspot · 25/10/2008 15:45

ladyhelen my heart goes out to you. Very best of luck with the CVS, I am sure we will end up doing exactly the same if this pregnancy goes as far as yours and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's good news for you.

roque what great news! Ha ha, the Law of Sod strikes again!

joyful, may I ask how you got hold of Keith Harrington? Did you go private (I'm guessing you did, with him being at the Portland)and did you get a referral direct to him? Really empathise re the mild symptoms.

joyfuleyes · 25/10/2008 17:06

Sussex I meant Kevin Harrington (I will blame that on pregnancy brain) I worked at Homerton in the Fetal Medicine Unit with him so it was a professional favour really. He's lovely, highly recommended. He does still have an NHS practice - found this with his contact numbers on.

Basky Thilaganathan who's at the fetal medicine unit at St George's is also excellent.

Feeling sick today - managed some chocolate pudding though

SparkyMalarky · 25/10/2008 18:02

roque and swali - lovely news.

LadyHelen - thinking of you and good luck for Tuesday. If we're in a similar situation I think we'd do the same thing. Fingers crossed you're in the 96.5%.

Ses good luck for your scan too this week

winemakesmummyclever · 25/10/2008 19:04

funtime - so sorry about your loss. Please take time to look after yourself and hope to see you back here very very soon.

dan - bee is suitable from birth and we got a deal from Coo Chi Coo where you get the pram and a free newborn cocoon. look. Looks cosy enough to me. It takes a maxicosi car seat on the chassis too so could use it without seat if wanted to go really lightweight. Plus hood is really big so gives plenty of wind shelter. Am due Feb 23 though will def be earlier as having another cs. Poor baby...bbrrrrrrr!

As for productive day - ever work with people in a team and you just want to kill them, bury them under the patio and dance about on top singing "you lazy feckers have driven me mad"? No??? Just me then......
