Aniyan thanks for the welcome!

Since I posted I've been to the loo 4 times to checkfor bleeding.

daisyj · 25/09/2008 13:49

joyfuleyes - hello and welcome. I'm nearly 14 weeks and both my tests were quite light - lighter than the test for the baby I mc'd - try not to worry . My nuchal scan and bloods both had excellent results, so I don't think the shade of the tests is anything to go on - a BFP is a BFP, so congratulations . I also had a pile that bled in the first couple of weeks after I found out. Fortunately I realised what it was immediately, but it is indeed heart-stopping seeing blood anywhere. I went to the loo at work yesterday and noticed a bit of someone else's blood before I even pulled my trousers down and it still freaked me out . As ronshar says, we're all mad as a sack of cats here.

Really hope being here will help you. It must have been horrible to lose two little ones in the second trimester - did you know there was a problem, or was it out of the blue?

Thinking of mm, scotlass and cricri - will come back later to see how you are. xx

cricri · 25/09/2008 15:56

Welcome to all the newbies who have joined in recent days This thread is great for getting you through the nerve-wracking early weeks and beyond and you'll find all the support you need here. Sorry to hear about your previous mcs too Wishing you uneventful pregnancies and a long and happy stay here.
Well, my 34 (actually closer to 35!) week scan went OK, baby is growing well, head was deep in my pelvis and she is in the correct position for birth, so no longer back-to-back, hurrah! No scrubbing floors for me However there is still some significant renal pelvis dilation on the right-hand side so I have to be re-scanned on Monday by a consultant, who will refer baby to a paediatrician post-birth if required. The sonographer said the measurement could very well change between now and Monday - at my 4D scan it was much lower - and she did struggle to get a measurement because of baby's position. When I saw my MW on Sunday about a home birth she did say that renal dilation wasn't a show stopper in terms of home birth as we could always take the baby along to the hospital straight afterwards for scanning if required so fingers crossed!
Hope the other scans today went well... Will be back later to check for news.

Greetings from Beijing!

Just a quick one to say hello to everyone, and to ask if anyone knows what the advice is on eating sea slug during pregnancy? Or deep fried chicken feet? Or bird's nest? Having some real culinary treats here, I can tell you!

On a serious note, the Chinese milk scandal is really freaking me out (3 major dairies have been watering down milk with melamine for many months, 50 odd children have died, and many thousands are ill as a result). It's probably alright, as I think they've discovered and closed down the offenders, but I still daren't risk it. I'm really missing my breakfast cereal, and the lack of All-bran really won't help the (ahem) somewhat sluggish bowel movement situation.... (sorry, possibly TMI).

I know this is all me, me, me, and I should give some individual feedback to the recent posts, but it's late here, and I need to go to bed - sorry! I'll make up for it next time.....

splishsplosh · 25/09/2008 17:29

Well I'm a mummy for a 2nd time.
It was all a bit quick and overwhelming. My waters broke at 00:05 on Wednesday, half an hour later, the contractions were over a minute long, and no more than a minute apart. Almost straight after there seemed to be no gap in the agony, just a slight easing occasionally, I felt like pushing and partner still hadn't got back! Luckily he got in, realised things were truly underway and called the ambulance. Never did make it to Kings - whizzed to local hospital, where doula was waiting - I was fully dilated, and my body was pushing and at 02:05 I had a baby girl, 7lbs12oz, no stitches, just a graze. So, 2 hours from beginning to end - I was all shivery and shaky after, probably shock!

She fed for about 2 hours straight away, then pretty much slept for about 12 hours. Then once I was hoping to get a bit of sleep at last she perked up.

Dd is in love at the moment, wants to hold her all the time, kisses her, tells other people how to stroke and kiss her - she says she'll change her nappy, change her sheet if she's sick, and put her back into bed if she clambers out! Hope it lasts!

I was kept in so they could check my heart was OK, and came home this afternoon. House is a state and I don't really have anywhere to sit and feed her, goodness knows what mw will think when she visits.

scotlass · 25/09/2008 17:46

Welcome joyfuleyes you've definitely found the right place to be! TBH faint/dark lines don't seem to be much of an indication hence I started using the clearblue digitals for a yes/no answer.

I just went to answer the phone and there?s more fantastic news on here CONGRATULATIONS splishsplosh what a great birth. I wish you and your new larger family all the best.

flossie em??em??em.. no can?t help . How long are you out there for?

cricri sounds good, not long to go now

well I had a scan and I?m in a state of shock (drove 5 miles in wrong direction to collect DD from afterschool duh!!!).

There is still a heartbeat and a wriggling baby shaped bean in there that is right size for dates. I swear my heart stopped beating as Dr had a really serious face and I thought oh no here we go again. However there was a sleeping bean which began to do the salsa when she prodded and poked around .

And?.I?m being referred for booking. This is the furthest I?ve managed, 10+4wks, so still not counting the chicken till it hatches and all that but surely 4 is the new 3rd time lucky. This thread is inspiring me!

perkypopsy · 25/09/2008 18:05

SPLISHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOORAY Woe what a story - sounds soooo quick - I really hope I have one of those - okay well maybe not quite as quick . How was the Doula??? Can't believe you have graduated - does that mean I'm going to tooo??? YIKES and Bloody hell have come over all funny - my palms are sweating . So so pleased xxxxxxxx

Dan congrats on your scan - I had quite a few in the beginning 7wks, 11+4 and 14 and each one was a bloody nightmare - it wasn't until I was getting loads of kicking and moving that I really felt better - a friend gave me a doppler which was good but actually because it sometimes took a while to get the HB - I stopped using it cos it was totally freaking me out! My MW s really scatty and she often takes ages to find it and I'm just there thinking "here we go again" - maybe some of these advances are not all they're cracked up to be

rainrain thinking of you today...is like being in limbo isn't it - I have been dusting the skirting boards cos I am worried about coming home from hozzy to visitors and being ashamed of my gloss work ha ha -never bothered me before - is this what they call nesting? Have arranged tea and cake with my nct group on Monday to make sure I have something to do on the big D day but also in the hope of tempting fate - pathetic I know

Friend came over with 5 week old baby - she is gorgeous - only just 8lbs - I've probably got one of them imn my tummy . Got some good tips on breastfeeding and nappy changing too which was a bonus.

splishsplosh · 25/09/2008 18:09

Popsy - the doula was great. Partner stayed at home looking after dd, doula told the mw things I wanted cos I wasn't in much of a state to, like delaying the cord cutting, letting the placenta come on its own etc. She gave me drinks, encouraged me and helped me afterwards - definitely recommended!

Sorry haven't had chance to catch up with everyone else - hope things going well for everyone. I'm off to lie down as dd1 has gone out on her tricycle with her dad and dd2 is sleeping peacefully (til my bedtime I bet when she will get a new lease of life!)

mm1509 · 25/09/2008 18:22

Hi everyone, had the scan today and it wasn't good news. We weren't expecting anything different to be honest so it wasn't a shock just now a final answer. I am booked in for an ERPC on Wed, original Tues but we changed it to Wed as there was a good chance I'd be kept in overnight as they are really busy and I was last on the list, so Wed it is unless things happen naturally before then. Actually dealing with this ok atm, guess we are getting used it by now. I suppose it still has to kick in fully. Glad the other scans went good and scotlass I noticed you posted in emmsys angels for me thanks. I actually waited posting here until after your scan so you didn't get any negative thoughts from here. Anyway hope everyone has much stickier beans than this lo and I might pop in from time to time to see how you are all getting on. I think it will be a little while before I am back, cannot even think of ttc for at least 6 months. Take care everyone and thanks for all the messages and support you have no idea how much you have all helped me thru this. mmxxxx

scotlass · 25/09/2008 19:09

oh mm you wee soul, I was waiting for you to post 1st cos I didn't want to seem ...oh I don't know......I just wanted yours to be good news so we could celebrate. I wasn't stalking you I promise I was just worried. I also didn't want to say anything on here in case you weren't ready. Honestly I'm negative enough for this whole thread so don't worry about that. lknow how each time takes a bit more strength away but I really hope you can join us again one day when you're ready. >>>

mm1509 · 25/09/2008 20:05

Oh scotlass I know and I am touched at both your posts. I am really glad for your news but I knew it wasn't going to be the same for us, it would really have taken a miracle. Try not to be too negative and hope what has happened to me does not make you feel any more paranoid. Take care and you now know where you will find me anytime you need to chat. mmxxx

downbutnotout · 25/09/2008 20:28

mm thinking of you and hoping you are getting all the support you need.

aquababe · 25/09/2008 20:52

mm I'm so sorry. Thinking of you. I hope your getting all the support in real

scotlass Hey your sticking with us congrats. I hope you feel positive for a while now.

slishsplosh Fabulous news congratulations!
And what a wonderful birth story.
I'm considering a doula but struggling to persuade dh (still very much plenty of time obviously)

welcome and congrats to the newbies.

cricri · 25/09/2008 21:29

MM so sorry to hear your news Really hoped it would be different. Will be thinking of you next Wednesday.
Splishsplosh Congratulations What wonderful news! What's your new DDs name? I have a doula booked too - good to know you had a positive experience.
Scotlass Wonderful news from your scan Really pleased for you! Do you have another scan booked in a couple of weeks?

dan39 · 25/09/2008 21:39

mm my love I am so, so sorry. Just had a cry for you. You make sure you do whtever you need to to get you through. I am so sorry I was really hoping you were going to get good news.

You know where we are - take care, take time, and take whatever else you need. Hope it goes as well as it can over the next week.

scotlass good news for you - what actually made me cry just now was you and mm being so thoughtful about each other - its the bittersweet bit of being on this thread isn't it - we all want to hear and share fears and worries but really wish as well for good news, but as you read and write it you are panfully aware of the position everyone else is in.

But in that spirit, I am really pleased for you and have everything crossed.

splish what fantastic news, i want one just like that - I do, I do!!Well done you and welcome to the lo. I love the graduate stories.

Welcome joyful you are in good company as I guess you can see!! Congrats on the bfp and sticky thoughts to you - time will crawl like a really slow crawly thing (like the nocturnal slugs in my kitchen, say) but it WILL pass. Sytick with us you and other newbies.

perkypopsy · 26/09/2008 13:13

Hi mm so sorry to hear your news - it is totally shit - no other words for it .

splishy so I can just rely on the Doula and leave DH at home to look after the cat ?

daisyj · 26/09/2008 13:48

mm - so so sorry. Be good to yourself and take all the time you need to heal. Thinking of you. x

scotlass - for you. That's wonderful news.

Splishsplosh - congratulations - what an amazing story! Hope you're recovering from the shock and enjoying DD - so lovely about your older DD's reaction .

dan39 · 26/09/2008 14:58

I am having a rubbish day.

I had to go to GP last fri and she diagnosed a urine infection and gave me antibiotics. I have been taking them all week, on Thu morining I noticed a message on the home answerphone from Monday (its in a corner and I never check it) from the GP asking me to ring. Turns out they were the wrong ones so I had to pick up a prescription for yet more.

I am worried cos I now think I have had an infection for probably 10 days without proper treatment and have read everywhere not to ignore UTI's in pregnancy so am convinced I have done something awful to baby. Also these new ones are making me feel quite sick...or maybe I am just having an off day - people are REALLY annoying me at work, and I am hoping dh will go to pub tonight and leave me to cheesecake and crap telly. So maybe its not the drugs.

For info, too - if anyone has not received their maternity exemption cert re prescriptions and needs a prescription, ask for a refund form when you get the script filled and you can claim it back when you get the cert. (speaking as someone who is on the third presecription!!)

FlossieF · 26/09/2008 14:59

mm - in case you're still here - also really sorry to hear your news. And after such a long drawn out period of uncertainty too - life isn't fair.

Delighted to read some good news too - congratulations Splishsplosh and Scotlass. Scotlass - I'm also hoping for 4th time lucky, and if all is still well with me, I should be 10+4 today, so we're pretty close in dates! Fingers and toes crossed....

I'm only in Beijing for another week, but won't be wanting to go out for a Chinese meal after I get back anytime soon! Today's were fairly tame, thankfully, - just had to eat as little of the liver paste as possible without appearing rude. Now I'm off to the hotel bar with a colleague to spend another night hoping that he doesn't notice I'm not drinking. I'm not sure I can cope with the subterfuge for much longer - I think I might crack and 'fess up, not least so that I have someone to moan to when I start feeling slightly queasy. Trouble is, unlike previous pgs, we've told absolutely noone yet, and telling him will really feel like tempting fate.....

FlossieF · 26/09/2008 15:07

Dan - sorry to hear about your rubbish day. I'm no expert, but the pregnancy advice is always uber-cautious, and whilst I'm sure ignoring a UTI for ages until it gets really bad is undoubtedly not a good thing, I'd say 10 days is probably not long enough. Hopefully someone who knows more about it than I will back me up on this. Not that that would stop you (or indeed I if it were me) worrying I daresay - we're not knicker checkers for nothing after all!

I hope you get your quiet cheesecake and crap telly-filled night in, and that tomorrow is better.

rainrain · 26/09/2008 15:18

mm so sorry to hear your sad news. Taking 6 months is a good idea if you feel you need it - I did that before this PG (but not between the previous 3) and I think it really helped me, both physically and mentally, to take that shift in focus.

Splish BIG CONGRATS See I told you all someone would beat me to it!!!! Pops I reckon you might beat me to it too Good idea to sort out something to do for your due date - I met up with friends and ate cake too, which was great. Got a bit hopeful when I got up in the night and had a (very small) leakage of waters. Rang the ward this morning and they told me to go in - but nothing is going on - no dilation. They said it probably just hind waters. So that's that. So still in the waiting game

Hello everyone else, hope all is well.

joyfuleyes · 26/09/2008 15:24

mm I'm so sorry I hope bext week is bearable

After yesterdays freak out I've managed to stay calm(ish). I have an appointment with the GP on Monday to renew my prescriptions and refer me to the midwife, and I'll see my consultant in 2 weeks for a scan.

I was really ill in my last pregnancy & am doing my best to rest/eat properly this time. I'm already finding it difficult to drink though - the smell of water makes me gag & juice gives me awful heartburn.

Thanks for the welcome - splishsplosh many congratulations

daisyj · 26/09/2008 15:55

dan . Surely even if the antibiotics weren't the right ones they would still have had some effect. I'm sure the baby will be fine, hon. They are pretty tough once they've decided to stick, I think

Wow, joyfuleyes - the smell of water. That's pretty extreme, you poor thing.

flossie - you have a will of iron - I'm in awe. No way would I be able to keep it to myself under those circs.

Now, I'm hoping someone can reassure me. I've been having little stabbing pains in my belly (I'm 14 weeks). I mean, not actually painful, but noticeable. Growing pains? (I'm 13+6 and have definitely grown this week, now sporting a pot belly, so I'm hoping that's all it is). Anyone else had/having same?

supersteph · 26/09/2008 16:20

hi all, popped in to say I hope you are all havin good pregnancys. Found out last week we are expecting a girl. Yippi. I will then have my family compleat. My 2 an half yr old boy is ova the moon. He kept telling me he wants a little sister. My tummy is getting very big now and she is moving lots. This is the part of the pregnancy I was waiting for, Very reasuring. Cant believe I am 22 weeks on sunday. xx

dan39 · 26/09/2008 16:20

daisyj I was sure you were more than 14 weeks?! (time is a funny thing in here...)Yes - pains all the time, I began to welcome them in fact cos it felt like something was happening. Particularly when you say they are not 'pain' pains, but just something noticeable. Add the fact that you are mega conscious of absolutely everything that is happening in your body from your belly to your fingertips, and I am sure there is nothing to worry about and if anything you should welcome it as 'stuff' that means the bean is making itself comfy in there...
