I'm glad your lo is staying put for now and I wish you all the best.

I had PE in my first pregnancy and it was similar to what you describe, I had endless hospital stays, blood tests daily/every other day, growth scans, placental blood flow scans, steroids etc. My dd held on until 36 weeks when my waters broke (was looking at being induced after that) and she weighed 5lb 14 and a half.

She was admitted to scbu for a week and was tube fed glucose at first and then milk as she couldn't tolerate the milk at first. She was mildly jaundiced and grunting at birth but after a week we took her home and it was wonderful. Sadly I didn't breastfeed her as I wasn't sure at the time and by the time I was it was too late and I was worried about changing her from the formula she was used to. I did bf ds1 and ds2 subsequently though.

It took her a long time to gain weight and she still only weighted about 9 and a half pounds at 3 months. She is now a 6 and a half year old full of energy and is average/slightly tall for her age. I realise she was born later than what you are expecting but I was expected to deliver earlier too, just wanted to give you a hopeful story.

thinking of you. x

MummyAnnabella · 28/08/2008 15:53

glad to hear all well so far - i posted earlier about my premmie at 33 weeks who was in intensive care and scbu. both are really good places and not as scary as you think. staff were wonderful in both and you will find you just get on with it. every time you get to hold baby or change a nappy is so much more special imo.

on the prcatical - i drove 3 weeks after c/s as felt fine - just call your doc and ins co and tell them you feel fine and it is okay. i stayed in 5 days so i was close to baby so only had 7 days where needed lifts.

Aitch, I didn't even know you were pregnant...!
Sorry to hear about our problems, but glad that so far the C-section wasn't necessary yet.
As for the other thngs to sort...do you have family, friends, neihgbours...that could help out?

Aitch, been watching this thread. Must post my best wishes to you and your family. Take care

claireybee · 28/08/2008 16:01

Oh aitch i've come late to this but so sorry to hear it. Nothing really to add other than good luck for the rest of the pregnancy. Also dont trust the scans too much,i had fortnightly scans with ds and two in the last week-they told me he had stopped growing and would be 5lbs ish(full term) and he was actually 7lb.

cikecaka · 28/08/2008 16:03

Good luck, will be thinking of you

Aitch, so glad you are home.
I know the logistics seem a nightmare at the mo, but don't think about it too hard. They will work out. These things do .
Good Luck!!!!

Habbibu · 28/08/2008 17:01

Oh Aitch - so glad you're back and little one is staying put just now. You are having such a time of it just now, poor love. Suggest LittleHab and I should leave you in peace next Saturday! Have emailed you with mob no, so do let me know if there's anything we can do. Think there may be a v.mini parcel waiting for you at hosp - ships passing, and all that.

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:04

Just wanted to say good luck and that I'm thinking of you, and will be keeping my eyes peeled for news.

Guadalupe · 28/08/2008 17:07

So pleased you can hang on a bit longer, Aitch, have been thinking about you a lot. You will manage fine with all the logistics, people will help you out I'm sure.

I'm trying to remember what week my brother was born, I think it was week 29 or 30 at the latest and he was over 4lb! Strapping lad now.

Good luck.

AngeG · 28/08/2008 17:10

Aitch so glad you're home and that they are keeping a close eye on you both.
Sorry you're having to deal with other problems as well.

SGK gave some great advice. As I said earlier in the thread my story is very similar to yours. After the section I saw DS very quickly before he was whisked off to scbu. They brought a photo of him to me while I was in recovery. He was born at 7.40pm and I was able to go to SCBU (in a wheelchair) at about midnight.
I was encouraged to express 4 hourly from the next morning and DS was given TPN until he was able to have milk through a NGT.

I was up and about quickly the next day with very little pain.

Thinking of you

Peachy · 28/08/2008 17:23

DS1 was emergency nduction after a scan showed he'd lost 2lb in utero- he was only 5lbs (term) but didn't need any scbu or anything.

My ssiters little lad was a 34 weeker, and in nicu for a month but is now A1, far ahead of my ds3 who was a perfectly normal pg / delivery but is now SN.

there's a lady called dawn at a group called PETS (pre eclampsia and toxaemia society), there's a website, she knows so much- reads all the research, goes to all the conferences and is happy to talk to anyone. there are also supporters available; I don't think yu're in mya rea or it might be me, but there will be one close to you.

MarsLady · 28/08/2008 17:23

Good that you're home.

TinkerBellesMum · 28/08/2008 17:26

I didn't even realise you were pregnant Aitch!

33 weeks is really good, even at that size the baby has a good chance.

I was asking my doctor on Friday about early labour and she said that milestones are 26 weeks, 32 weeks, 34 weeks and 36. Each day past those are positive. The hardest bit is going to be the unit, remember they can't be too positive because they could give you a false impression of what will happen when they don't know but it will probably be good. Once you get out it will be another lifetime and soon you will be dishing out the advice for BLWing premature babies!

Jacanne · 28/08/2008 17:27

Glad you're home - I hope little Aitch stays in there long enough to be a bigger little Aitch.

elkiedee · 28/08/2008 17:31

Good to see you're home for the moment Aitch

RustyBear · 28/08/2008 17:35

Glad to see you're home - hope your little one can hang on in there a bit longer!

Ewe · 28/08/2008 17:38

Not sure if she has posted but johnworf had a tiddler at 24weeks who is now doing amazingly well and her story is very inspiring. Her thread is here.

I had a my DD at term but she was ill so in SCBU after a few days in a C.London level four or something neo-natal unit she was transferred back to my local hosp for a further week. They do tend to try and transfer our to local units where possible as in my eperience they often don't have spare rooms for Mums.

TinkerBellesMum · 28/08/2008 17:51

Just read your second post. I'm glad that you're home, it means that you get some time for the steroids to work, which is brilliant. Tink didn't get any, was born sooner and did brilliantly so I'm sure your daughter will do great.

I always say that I was privileged for my stay in NNU because I had a lot of time and care to establish breastfeeding that I may not have otherwise had. Premature babies don't need much BM and while you are establishing your supply she won't starve - another reason I felt privileged. Make sure you are proactive - nothing in the mouth except the breast! My hospital were strong believers in that rule for BF babies but I know others aren't so much.

I hope you're doing OK in yourself, try to reassure yourself that it will be fine so that you don't stress too much. Relax and put your feet up as much as you can. It sounds like they're keeping a good eye on you so nothing will get past them.

PinkTulips · 28/08/2008 19:39

glad your home albeit possibly temporarily.

sorry the bulders and gas company are causing you even more stress though, hope everything resolves itself for the best soon.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 19:44

Just to say I'm glad you're home again Aitch, even if it's only for a wee while. Fingers crossed it will be longer than a week though and that the travelling back and forward isn't too stressful for you all.

Good Luck

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/08/2008 19:59

Pleased to hear that you are home Aitch. Every day is a bonus .
Hope that you are getting lots of rest, and that all the organising miraculously happens around you!
