am freaking. it's just very wee. and i've got nothing ready etc etc. and i'm a bit upset. mikafan's right... if the placenta is scuppered (and she's not growing so we can assume it is or is getting there) then she's got to come out. i just wish it weren't so, iykwim. scan's deffo right, i've been being getting growth scans every fortnight, the baby has just dropped off the scale.
and at womblingalong, nice to hear from a bit of a lurker, thanks. same no, expat, and the Princess Royal Glasgow, it is a good hospital but my obs Who I Love is on holiday ffs and won't be back for two weeks.

One of my DS's best mate was born at 30/31 weeks and weighed less than 3lbs.

They are both now nearly 7, and you honestly could not tell in any way shape or form that he had had any prematurity. He is tall, strong, well co ordinated, bright and polite.

Honestly, honestly it can be ok.

VictorianSqualor · 26/08/2008 15:53

I didn't even realise you were pg!

I had Dd at 32 weeks.

They estimated 1-2lb.

She was 5lb 1.5oz.

She had a pneumothorax (kind of collapsed lung) but apart from that she was fine, if she hadn't had that she would've been able to feed straight away but because of the pneumothorax she needed a week on a ventilator, and a week on the CPAP.

Call a BFC STRAIGHT AWAY when she is born and get as much help as possible.

If you want to email me and ask anything then it's fan-fkn-tastic @ hotmail .co.uk

Wheelybug · 26/08/2008 15:54

I was admitted to hospital when dd hadn't grown for 2 weeks (and I had signs of pre-eclampsia) - admittedly this was at 36 weeks and dd was a bit bigger (4lbs 9oz).

I/dd was monitored A LOT (for a few days) and I did have to deliver her but they will only decide to deliver once they have made the decision that she is better off out than in. They will leave her in if she is not in distress/ you are not too ill.

Its early but dd at 36 weeks required no help at all (so although your baby might need some help she should be fine) and once out she shot up in weight so it really was the best thing for her.

Have you had doppler scans to look at the blood flow around the baby ? I had these - apparently they can tell by where the blood is flowing whether there is a serious growth issue or not.

Good luck.

Don't worry about nothing being ready, let other people sort that for you!

bookthief · 26/08/2008 15:54

Aw crap Aitch. I hope you're getting answers to your questions and they're just painting you a worstcase scenario. But 33 weeks is teeny but excellent prognosis I think??? I know nothing about this really though.

Maybe ask to see Linda re: bf? She knows about your problems from last time and she's good at finding solutions if they're there.

Scary times . I'm thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.

Wheelybug · 26/08/2008 15:55

I had nothing ready either and they wouldn't let me leave the hospital to go home and pack so DH had to make the best of it - I was told they had never seen anyone with so much luggage....

lulumama · 26/08/2008 15:55

i had a client deliver recently at 32 weeks, baby was almost 4 lbs and did brilliantly and no issues after birth. all baby needed to do was gain weight, she was small but perfect.

i don;t know enough about the sort of scanning you might have had re your placenta to know if they are very accurate. victoriansqulaor had issues with ehr placenta and her baby was mahoosive in the end!

Oh, also, I didn't bf DD, no help, but I did have some milk come in and am 100% confident that if I'd have known what to do I would've been able to feed her.

OneLieIn · 26/08/2008 15:56

Good luck Aitch - I am sure they will do a great job and you and baby h are in safe hands indeed.

Positive vibes and a big hug

bookthief · 26/08/2008 15:56

Let me know if you need ANYTHING at all. ([email protected])

VictorianSqualor · 26/08/2008 15:57

lol lulu, that's true 10lb 30z Aitch! With restricted blood flow to the placenta, with ds2.

The 5lb 1.5oz was even though I'd been losing blood after placental abruption for about 3 months!

OracleInaCoracle · 26/08/2008 15:59

oh aitch, thats so shite. 33w is early, but its not terrible. however, i know how freaked and frightened you are, x

and fecking wanky builders. i'd take km's offer up if i were you!

laughalot · 26/08/2008 16:00

I had pre eclampsia with my dd but I was overdue and they induced me. Im sure you will be in the safest hands and they will do whats best for you and your baby. Look after yourself as it takes alot out of you aswell and when your lovely bundle arrives im sure she will be perfect. Good luck xxxxx

hughjarssss · 26/08/2008 16:00

Thinking of you Aitch, sending positive vibes

traceybath · 26/08/2008 16:01

My second was 3 weeks early so not as premature but was in an incubator with no real contact bar stroking through a window for 3-4 days.

However he's now 8 months and i'm still breastfeeding.

I started off hand expressing (and i'd had a c-section as well) with a pipette and after a couple of days when my milk came in switched to hospital pump (they let you take them home).

I expressed every 3 hours day and night and definitely had more milk when i'd spent time with my baby even if just touching him in the incubator.

He was in NICU for a week and then we were discharged. He was tube fed for 6 days and then we switched gradually to breastfeeding - i did have issues with weight gain during the switch and they were reluctant to discharge but it was just him getting used to having to work for his milk.

I found hand expressing tough and midwifes varied hugely as to how helpful they were really.

It was a very tough week as already had one DS and i felt massively torn between my new baby and older child.

Good luck!

Aitch · 26/08/2008 16:01

the blood flow to the baby is fine, but it's the growth (or lack thereof) they're worried about. that and the fact that my av bp is 160/107.

obv i hope that things are okay but really I JUST WANT EVERYTHING TO GO BACK TO HOW IT WAS YESTERDAY BEFORE I KNEW ALL THIS STUFF.

Good luck Atich (and mini-aitch). Past 32 weeks is good prognosis; a mate of mine had both her sons at around the 27 week mark, one is 5, one is 3 and they are both fine healthy boys, you'd never know.

oh, aitch!

are they going to give drugs to try to lower hte bp?

they did for my sis and she got to 36 weeks, but was in hospital from 32 weeks on.

baby 6lbs!

sending you LOW bp and growth vibes.

laughalot · 26/08/2008 16:05

Aithch when I had my dd my bp was 180/110 worryingly high but it went as soon as she was born.
