mrsboogie · 26/08/2008 13:35

Hi Fizzylady - methinks you have come to the right place There's lots of us on here - some pregnant, some recently given birth, some TTC, all over 40 and unashamedly still faboulously fortyishly fertile (hey that would have been a good thread title)

welcome, never mind what your mum thinks if you have the energy for it why not? what does your OH think?

Fizzylady · 26/08/2008 13:50

Oh what a lovely welcome!! Thanks so much mrsboogie!
Well..errm how can I delicately put this..I havent openly voiced my feeling to OH. I think he'd think I'm insane as I am breastfeeding most of the time when I'm not cooking and working (I work from home which I LOVE but it is hard)
I did say to him "You should have the snip" but he obviously wasnt keen.
We are very close but he's not such a chatterbox as me.
As for Mum..well she is like a best friend with attitude and its not as if I'm asking her to look after them..
I wonder how fertile I actually am? Obviously not very at the mo as I'm still solely breastfeeding little Roo (4.5 months)..

mrsboogie · 26/08/2008 14:31

Well, if you have a four month old then there's no reason to think there's any problem in that area is there? Guess it depends how long it took to conceive him/her!

I was going to say if your mum isn't an unpaid childminder or something then she can think what she likes eh?

I think that one of the good things about being in our position is you don't really have lots of much time to think about it so we tend to get on with it. I am due in 3 weeks and occasionally I wonder whether I might squeeze another one in (or out to be more precise )but I need to get this one delivered safely first.

I guess you really need to get hubby onside before proceeding - at least your domestic setup is suitable...Having two close together would be nice - and not that much more work surely?

johnworf · 26/08/2008 15:19

Hi ladies,

bad news I'm afraid. Katherine's ROP has progressed to a stage 3 so tomorrow we're having emergency laser eye surgery. Back to St Marys and back to ITU on a ventilator. To say I'm having a breakdown would be an understatement

Will post more as and when I know more.

JW xxxx

mrsboogie · 26/08/2008 15:41

ooh jw - I am so sorry to hear that. I was hoping it would be ok . Thanks for taking the time to let us know. What a blow

Best wishes for Katherine tomorrow - keep in touch when you can.

xx

FloriaTosca · 26/08/2008 16:09

Peek-a-boo, I see you! (sorry too much time spent in the company of an ... 11mth old(today))
Everyone has been so busy!
JW hope the exam goes as well as possible. Great news that the H word is mentioned more often...she really does look wonderful in her pics. I think your dolly balls look quite facinating...let us know how you get on with them...I might be tempted myself (along with the banana thingy too of course)
JJ Love your pics too..especially Iriss hat one...and hope Veritys vacs aren't too stressful (I freely admit I cried worse than ds did )
Babycakes great to hear you sounding so up beat...I'm sorry to say but for me the fear of losing another never left me, I worried every step of the way, especially after losing Robyn (and I thought I had been bad the previous 5 times!)but the end result is ssssooooo worth it....there isnt a day in the last 11 months that I havent thanked my lucky stars for the miracle of my Alex. Have a fabulous 40th!!!
Hedgepig I know exactly where you are with the naming game...girls names were easy for us too but trying to get a boys name we both liked.... Good luck with it....I caved to Dhs choice in the hour before induction just so we had a name to call it if it was a boy, but must now admit it really suits our lad. Good luck
MrsBoogie I got the dreaded boarderline gt result at 32 weeks too...deep sympathy to you.... but it will all be over in a few weeks and if you are like me it will go instantly back to normal.
Mrs Jupiter Eva looks utterly gorgeous....I'm so glad she is recovering. Well done with the depressing expressing, she'll be able to do it for you with better results soon.
fortified Hugo is goregous too....I'm a sucker for cardis too.

Well the Bl&! mink got away...but at least it seems to have moved on and Mums fish are recovering and the pool is lovely and clean now...If it happens again I'll be sitting in the early hours on a swivel chair a la Jasper Carrot (in the "mole" sketch if you know it) with a flash light in one hand and a shot gun in the other waiting for it!!!! Not a lot else to report...ds has finally reduced his night feeds down to 8pm,2am, 5am and 7am which believe it or not is an improvement and we had a lovely sunny Sunday in Newark at the Bouvier (big hairy beast) rally where ha laughed a lot at Mummy trying to do heelwork to music (doggy dancing) and an agility course that was crossed with a school sports day event where mummy pulled muscles she had forgotten she every had trying to do the sack race section........

FloriaTosca · 26/08/2008 16:17

bu*&er...xposted jw...so sorry...you have your meltdown, you are allowed after a blow like that...I was sure she would be ok ...I hope all goes well tomorrow and you are back out of st marys as quick as you go in.

sorry for lack pfcaps...bfing as I type

jeanjeannie · 26/08/2008 21:02

Blody Hell johnworf* that's awful You must be in pieces. I'm really shocked. BUT - to look at the glass half full.....it's been caught as soon as the change happened and that's VERY speedy surgery they're doing. Granted - it's a step back for now - but probably (in the long run) a big one forward. Sending you HUGE ((((hugs)))) and a big hand holding all the way up north

fizzylady Welcome....so glad you've come to join the best bunch of 40 somethings you're likely to bump into! I can totally understand the desire for another LO straight after having a munchkin...just had 2nd DD (12weeks) only 18mths after DD1 And I'm 42...almost 43!!!

mrsboogie ROFL about your "not much more work, surely"....hahahahahaha Having 2 under 2 is insane....I've aged beyond belief and now I know what tired is! Nah....not much work

The mole got away floriatosca...yep, it's Jasper Carrot time..hahaahhhaha. And heel work to music...are you in training for Crufts??!!

I'm off to Nottingham to see the parents tomorrow. Already starting to pack....soooo much stuff. I'll try and check in although the folks aren't on t'web....how will I cope without you all?? back Sunday night.

johnworf....I'll be thinking of you and Katherine tomorrow. Massive hugs again....keep going chuck xxx

johnworf · 26/08/2008 21:33

Hi jeanjeannie thanks for you kind words of support - very much needed at the mo.

Katherine is due to be transferred tomorrow at 11am and to see eye consultant at 1pm with view to surgery tomorrow afternoon. Details thereafter a bit sketchy but think it'll be see how she copes with it. We've been told she'll be sedated for first 12-24 hours so that she can't mess with her eye and hopefully after that we'll be back to Bury.

Stressed I am (in Yoda voice) sigh

I can see the positive side of this in that they've caught it early and it's not progressed to a Stage 4 or worse, Stage 5. Her retina has so far no started to detach so here's hoping tomorrow will right it. However, her peripheral vision will be affected long term due to them lasering the cells away and we're definitely looking at her wearing specs.....a baby wearing specs huh? Who would have thought it

Off to bed shortly with my headache and DH with his migraine. What a happy house we are but hoping that once tomorrow is out of the way, we'll all be back on track.

Advance apologies for huge moan/whine tonight .

Hope you ladies are keeping out of mischief

FloriaTosca · 26/08/2008 22:28

JW Hope the headache (and Dhs migraine) abates and you have as good a night as you can in the circumstances so you have the emotional energy to cope tomorrow...you have such strength, always seeing the positive side of things[admiring emoticon]...and as to "a baby in specs", well I went to nursery school with a girl who wore them and she looked so cute I wanted some!!!In fact she didn't look like "her" without them. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and am sure that it will all go smoothly and sucessfully.((cyber hugs)))

jeanjeannie · 26/08/2008 22:52

Johnworf Night night...put that achey head on a pillow. All the best people wear glasses at a young age (puffs up chest ) And, in the future I'm sure there will be contact lenses for such things....probably with in-built cells too!!

Here's sending you good vibes straight from my yummy cup of hot choccie and hope it all goes OK.

And I don't consider that a winge....wasn't even boardering on a light mithering xx

mrsboogie · 26/08/2008 23:13

jw will be thinking of you tomorrow, I'm sure jeanjeanie is right and it will come right. Lots of love and kisses to Princess K.

johnworf · 27/08/2008 08:01

Hi girls,

quick update: Katherine had a good night (unlike her mum and dad) and has taken to demand feeding 80mls! She's been ever such a good girl with no worries as to what today brings. She's having her last bottle feed at 8.15am and then being picked up at 10.30am for transfer to ST Marys.

We're meeting her at the other end to go through questions with consultant and sign consent for the general.

I'm trying my hardest to be positive for our LO but just want today to be over and done with.

LOL@JJ and wearing specs. Well I wear specs myself so not a problem there but just imaginging her with a plaster around the sides (a la Jack Duckworth) after she keeps on breaking them

Will post tonight when I know how it's all gone and hopefully it'll be a thumbs up for everyone.

Take care.

JW xxx

jeanjeannie · 27/08/2008 08:15

Ah....the Jack Duckworth look johnworf I think that's our early 70s upbringing....way too many pasters and patches stuck over NHS glasses

I know how sick we felt when we took Iris to GOSH for an exploratory MRI scan and her eye appointment. She was 8 months and it was a general anaesthetic. Awful. But she was fine - woke up fresh as a daisy. Had no trauma at all and just wanted food and milk We, on the other hand needed a darkened room and a chaise lounge to drape over.....!!

Just wondered how kaz1967 is doing???? Are you there dear? Can you hear me? Is Kez good and feeding you into a stupor? Do let us know how you're doing when you get chance x

May check in before I leave. Off to pack the girls' bits. Do I go for summer wardrobe or autumn? It's a dilema of national proportion..! x

Yes, mad, no telly, i know...

Currently still bf, no 5 so no periods, i've got some cheapy ov tests from ebay but not really any sign yet. Might have to give up bf,

I'm a sahm, and a Doula.

Will read through and be back. x

mrsjupiter · 27/08/2008 08:27

Break a leg JW. Will be thinking of you - it's really not a smooth road is it. I'm really sure everything will be ok though. These guys sound like they really know what they are doing.

Will be back later.

jeanjeannie · 27/08/2008 10:50

Just popping by before we go...

liahgen HIYA! Pull up a chair - grab some cake & cherryade ....you're most welcome! Hats off to you for having such a fine brood and for even thinking about no 6 I've got DD2 on breast as I type while 21mth DD1 is stuck to Teletubbies.....don't think I can contemplate number 3......yet! 42 is a fine age isn't it?! I'm 43 next month - hope it's another vintage year. My life really has started at 40

You're a doula eh? How bloody marvellous. Actually your name looks familiar from preggie & childbirth threads.....bet you're in demand !! Well good luck with the OV tests....they say breastfeeding is a contraceptive although my doctor-friend (who believed that) now has 2 under 2.....in one year

Well ladies...I'm off...so keep my seat warm. Sending cake in my absence.....and some over to pwcbird as I was thinking about you this morning

Cheery-byeeee - see you Mondayxxxxx

bye jeanjeanie have a lovely time

welcome liahgen - it's a very friendly and supportive thread here - gosh you are an inspiration!! I'm in awe...

cheeryade and cake eh jeanjeanie? s'alright for some...

I've been wondering where Kaz is too - she hasn't been on for ages - guess she is fully occupied with Kezzie at the mo...

pwcbird · 27/08/2008 12:41

Hello lovely ladies.

I am here!

Firstly - big ((((hugs))) to jw and really thinking positive for you. Was very downcast when read about poor Katherine but we know she's a fighter and as jj says it's been caught early.

Welcome newbies ladymac, fizzylady and liahgen. Lovely to have you here. To cut a long story short I was a regular on here but sadly lost my LO 4 weeks ago when we had our anonomly scan at 22 weeks and found the baby had died at approx 17 weeks. It's all been very sad and a horrid, horrid shock, but we are keeping positive etc. and want to try again as soon as we feel we can.

Loving the new pictures JJ, mrsjupiter and fortified. Gosh it's taken me ages catching up and looking at you all - beautiful every one of those yummy babes.

Well, what news of old Pwcbird eh? Had MIL here for last 4 days so it's been a marathon cookathon (well - one has to impress the old MIL don't you). Also Sunday was DS's 2nd birthday so we just had a family day in the garden, DH and I and grandparents so all the attention was on little Joseph which of course he loved. There's a few pics on facebook for anyone who a) knows me and b) who's interested.
Feeling a bit more normal/ok about stuff but still find it hard sometimes. Friend of mine gave birth yesterday and though I'm so happy it is tinged with my own sadness and if I'm totally honest I'm slightly dreading going to see the newborn, though know it'll be ok.
DH is super keen for us to try again asap and keeps saying 'let me know when we can start'. It's been strictly no touchy touchy for him on that front but info seems to say that once you've had a cycle (and I don't mean the two wheeled variety ), which I haven't yet anyway, you can try again. I'm not sure I'm that ready, but DH, not known for his delicate manner, keeps reminding me that I'm not, apparently, getting any younger!

Sending love to you all and will try and post a bit more often. DS is obsessed with the laptop and can only get to it at the mo when he is otherwise absorbed. In the evening DH takes over where DS left off with the computer so I stand no chance! xx

ps babycakes HELLO! I tried to find you on facebook but either didn't get your name right or there were too many of you and I didn't know which one you were. If you're around - I'll give you mine

mrsboogie · 27/08/2008 13:30

hi pwcbird good to hear you are bearing up and your LO is keeping you positive! It's a good thing that your DH is keen to try again asap - at least you know you've got his full support - which is most important.

I don't know if you have ever heard this but I have read that the body releases the best quality egg it has available at ovulation which is why a lot of women seem to fall pregnant quite easily after losing a baby or indeed after giving birth (perhaps there is just a bigger supply of good quality eggs available).

johnworf · 27/08/2008 22:00

quick update: Katherine had her op this afternoon on both eyes. Back to ITU around 8.30pm and was still on ventilator and paralised from drugs when we left. Hopefully she'll be off all of this by tomorrow and transferred back to Bury....hopefully, fingers crossed.

Nurses said she'd been such a very brave girly and op went well.

She picks up specs up in 3 months or so.....

Kaz1967 · 27/08/2008 23:25

jeanjeannie hiya not been around for a while lost internet connection due to friends husband being childish, and have been to Bristol and packed up the house Kez had her 6 week check today (8 weeks yesterday) passed with flying colours and is now 10lb 4 1/2oz which is 4.66kg dam I knew she was getting big she has not been weighed for 3 weeks I guessed about 9 1/2lb but now she is on 25th centile in weight and head circumference and above that in length

Back under crisis team now as mood took a nose dive last week had first panic attack for ages in house nearly had one in the bus station coming home but managed to calm self down. Rest of the week looks busy too Kezzy has first lot of jabs Friday

johnworf Mum uses the eco ball things with not too dirty stuff had no probs with them or the washer.

Hope K is ok and will be back in Bury soon

johnworf · 28/08/2008 07:28

Hi kaz1967 sorry to hear that you've not been feeling tip top. Not sure what a crisis team is/does but it sounds like the right people to turn to.

Well done Kez on her splendid weight gain. What a greedy guzzler you are

Katherine still on the ventilator this morning taking 35% oxygen - although this is being decreased. It was truly awful seeing her last night. She was so still with her eyes half open just lay there Her eyes are puffy and red but she's having drops put in 6 times a day (combination of steroids and dilating agents). It doesn't look as though she'll be going back to Bury today but who knows? Babies seem to turn themselves around so quickly. We'll just have to see what today brings.

My dad is here changing all our interior doors and the decorator is showing up today so we'll be having a full house. I won't be here of course so DH will have to play hostess with the tea

Fizzylady · 28/08/2008 10:18

Hi everyone..
What an inspiraional thread this is!
All my love and thoughts to johnwort and pcwbird..life is such a total trial at times.
I miscarried twice before having Leon , now 2.
It was so hard as was pushing 40 and it was second time around (have 16 yr old and 14 yr old)
My hubby didnt have children.
We've gone on to have Reuben, now 4.5 months and here's me thinking I want to do it all again.
I'm still b/f Roo and soo tired but something is telling me I want more babies! I'm 41!!
Havent dared voice this to hubby yet..Mum has said dhe'll disown me lol...she wouldnt really!
Would love to make contact with any Mums near Bucks. Most of my friends have older childen.
(wink)

Kaz1967 · 28/08/2008 14:35

Fizzylady jeanjeannie lives in Bucks I grew up there and at some point will visit as my parents live just outside high Wycombe it is a funny shape county so which part are you in?

And yep I would love another one Kez was my first and I am 41 at the weekend 3Mum would have me sectioned I think if I got pregnant again not much chance though her Dad is no longer here

Do not be fooled breastfeeding even exclusively is not a shore way of preventing pregnancy although it can help.

johnworf She is certainly growing well. Not only up to the 25th centile on weight and head size (was 9th) and above that for length

The Crisis team is the mental health services in the community.

babycakes several of us are on facebook I am Kaz Lloyd in the Bristol network. Picture is me as a child.
