mrsboogie · 02/09/2008 13:27

jeanjeanie congrats on Verity's great progress - remember all those calories fattening her up must be thinning you down and getting rid of the baby weight!!

yes, we area a right troop of cradle snatchers on here - wait til you see a pic of my OH - he looks very young indeed . Am hoping that the sleepless nights will give him a few wrinkles and grey hairs to even up the score a bit while I'll be down the hairdressers and investigating the prospect of botox....

Ah yes my smugness at keeping the blood sugars under control has well and truly worn off now.I am practically on the Atkins diet now . I don't want to have to start on insulin with only a week or two to go. I have bacon coming out my ears

jeanjeannie · 02/09/2008 13:45

Are yes - We ARE a bunch of cradle snatchers aren't we.....*sniggers childishly

My DP maybe younger - but definately greyer than me although I think the burden of motherhood is drawing me closer to the dye!

Like I've said before - being a ginger presents hairdressing problems....think of ginger women who've hid the grey. Yes, I could end up like Rita from Corrie (has she had a face-lift?) or Cilla Black I'm thinking I'd like to go down the Jane Asher route....she always looks chic and sleek........must find out who does her hair!

mrsboogie you have 'bacon coming out of your ears'.......??! How queer. What a sight you must be - take a piccie now!

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 02/09/2008 13:58

but don't red haired women fall victim to the grey much later than others? I think I'd be looking at the blond spectrum myself in that position.

Unfortunately pregnancy coincided (or caused) a very nasty outbreak of resistant grey right at the front of my bonce. Can't get rid without permanent dying - even if then. Can't wait to get back to the hairdresser's!

I'm sure "Rita" has had a facelift- she seemed to appear one day looking 20 yrs younger! fair play to her I say - she looks great and must be knocking 75. Doesn't have that Joan Rivers look about her at all. I lie the way they don't dress her like an old lady as well - I want to be like that when I am ancient - maybe not quite that vivid in the hair department ...

I think I 'll spare you all the sight of my bacon-eared self wouldn't do to go traumatising the lovely pregnant ladies

hedgepig · 02/09/2008 14:03

all this talk of bacon is making me feel peckish again, and I only just had lunch. I'm getting jealous of these youunger men, DH is 4 yrs older than me, and much greyer (ie 100's of hair compared to the 1 I found this morning ekkkk).
MrsB can you swap bacon for sasuages (or do they have hidden sugar) just for a bit of diet variation?

mrsboogie · 02/09/2008 14:23

sigh.. I hate knowing this but... sausages have flour and cereals in them which is a carb.

well, younger men are great but with an older man you don't have to worry about being mistaken for his mum on a bad day!!

jeanjeannie · 02/09/2008 15:16

HAhahah..LOL at the 'mum on a bad day' quip mrsB I'm beginning to feel the need for more 'maintenance' and yes, that is a reference to Botox and other youth-enhancing procedures. Can't help noticing a spot of concealer no longer does the trick

I liked the fab remark Joan Collins once made when asked about the 30+ age gap between herself and her (younger) hubby...she replied..."well, if he dies - he dies" Atta girl!

Your sausage knowledge is indeed astounding - a whole new career as a dietician could be on the horizon. You could be the next Rosemary Connolly without the perma-grin and coiffured hair

Helloooooooo!

Eye appointment was a big fat waste of time. The eye man wouldn't comment on her eyes as it's not in his field (well hello, didn't you realise that when the appointment was handed to you by St Mary's????). So he went off to phone St Marys to ask that they look at her eyes asap...another trip in the ambulance for Katherine and another appointment for us at a different hospital. They said it's urgent so we're looking at sometime this week.

sigh

Anyhoo will keep you posted.

As for DH he's 3.5 years younger than myself. So I guess I am a cradle snatching old lady I have absolutely no shame. Yay!

Thanks for lovely comments on how big Katherine is getting. She's a guzzler without doubt and tipping the scales at last weigh in on Sunday at 5lb 13oz. Hopefully she'll be over 6lbs tomorrow, and we're still -13 days to EDD. The sleepsuit is a cute one and part of a set I found in Next that actually does fit her although I did pick up a few more of the Scandinavian babygrows over the weekend too Fab-a-licious.

jeanjeannie · 02/09/2008 16:05

Bloomin 'eck.....that's crap Sorry for the language (kids, cover your ears!) but, like you say - didn't they realise that when the appointment was made???!

Honestly - all these degrees, probably many more than you can shake a stick at (never did understand that phrase) and still the simplest things get cocked-up. I don't know - they need my mate who earns a fortune as a PA...she fixes and sorts out everything I think this is where I shout in a Daily Mail rant...."bring back the Matron she knew what she was doing!!" And, you can then call out "Oh Hello Matron" in a Leslie Phillip's style voice.

Yep - keep us posted. You definately deserve good news now - it's compulsory....*runs off to check small print...yep, there it is, right at the bottom

Good Lord - she's doing amazingly on the weight front. One thing less to worry about, which is a good thing. Thirteen days....yee haa!!

mrsboogie · 02/09/2008 16:08

awwww ffs jw what are they at? tsk messing you about like that. Hopefully it won't delay things to much. Blimey 5lb 13 - she's piling it on!

haha love the Joan Collins comment!

rosebury · 02/09/2008 16:48

Sorry jw it must be frustrating for you I know we should be grateful for what the medics do but they can also be bloody annoying, not much longer though she is almost home.

I am aalso a strawberry blonde no grey hair and look younger than my dh not that I am bigheadedd or anything.

johnworf · 02/09/2008 17:04

I've spoken to hospital in Bury and it's all up in the air now as to going home date. Said they might make her stay until she is discharged from eye follow ups....i.e. a possible 3 more weeks

So, not hanging out the bunting or rolling the red carpet out just yet.

jeanjeannie · 02/09/2008 21:47

Bugger....those buntings NEED hanging out! Awww - you must be aching to get her home now. Gawd, when she gets back there'll be one hell of a party.....Babycham, eggnog, cheesy footballs - the works

Ooooo, rosebury I had you down for being a brunette...don't know why. Another red/strawberry person....hoorah! - a 'chosen one' as my fellow red-haired friend calls it

Am hoping for a few hours sleep tonight - Verity has been a milk-nutter - fell asleep with her in bed last night - bad mother. Although I read so much on MN about co-sleeping - I just can't be comfy about it. Woke up and was panicing, thinking she'd disappeared under the douvet! So night night all.

johnworf · 03/09/2008 07:13

jeanjeannie hope that the LO's have let you shut your eyes for more than 40 seconds and you have well deserved rest.

We're back at St Mary's tomorrow at 9.30 where a Mr Biswas (rhymes with Tiswas) is looking at her - I kid you not. They're to scan her eyes but she'll have to have another eye exam where her pupils are dilated etc.I feel like I'm in some parallel universe now or possibly in a dreamscape a la Yellow Submarine. Anyway, I rang hospital last night before my evening visit and blasted them for what I considered, an unnecessary eye exam. I'm sure they'll be shoving me out of the door pretty sharpish just to shut me up and get rid of me. Anyhoo.....

Katherine's room is finished and it looks splendid. Off to pick up all the accessorises and cot bed on Friday. Just carpets to order today and then I'm done with her room. Just the rest of the house now that looks like a car crash

Until tomorrow, can't make any plans nor look forward or really do anything. Welcome to Limbo Land, Lisa.....population: YOU!

FloriaTosca · 03/09/2008 08:59

G'd Mornin'
JW At least Limbo land is about to be abandoned... and Mr Tiswas who knows what he is doing is seeing her in an hour so you will know exactly what is going on (and I sincerely hope you have red carpet and bunting to plan for and look forward to after it)...It isnt fair raising your hopes and then dashing them like they did yesterday...and why should she need to stay in for eye appointments when you could quite easily take her as an outpatient? I hope blasting them for the unnecessary eye exam made you feel better I'll look forward to your next update.

JJ Hope you got some sleep last night...know how you feel about co sleeping..I often wake terrified I havent put him back in his cot after bfing lying down and think he's smothered or fallen out of bed(I always have put him back so far but theres going to come a day...)...and I'm still getting woken 3-4 times a night even though he is 11mths now!!

MrsB LOl at the "mistaken as his mum on a bad day"... 4 years in my case isnt such a huge gap (though his parents are only 16/17 yrs older than me and his grandad is only 10yrs older than my mum!..so perhaps I should start to be concerned)but my best pal is 12 yrs older than her dh and is genuinely worried about that mistake being made (her mil is only 9 yrs older than her and looks like a model!)...still, they live in the USA, so she could get a Botox fix for about 10p there couldnt she?

jeanjeannie · 03/09/2008 09:04

"Limbo Land where everything takes longer than you think!" ...MMmmm not the best of holiday destinations eh?! Until tomorrow....Ggggrrrr

Well, Johnworf I'd like to join you in car crash house. While Iris's room is gorgeous and shiney (with lovely spotty rug and gleaming pictures)we have painted chip-board floors and half finished kitchen. One day we'll be able to invite Hello into our lovely home...

Are you taking a pie to throw in the face of mr Biswas - ah - remember the Phantom Flan Flingers cage??!!

I did get some sleep last night - a whole hour more and it's made loads of difference. Unfortunately Iris had a screaming fit so ended up in bed with us and her fluff-like hair got all up my nose!

OP posts:
johnworf · 03/09/2008 09:17

lol@fluff like hair. @ 1 whole hour though. Are your LO's trying to drive mummy to a sleep deprived breakdown??

When you've finished painting jeanjeannie I'm looking forward to a visual pastiche with voice over by Lloyd 'annoying' Grossman to see how well you've tarted the old place up. It's great isn't it that the kids have a palatial bedroom whilst mum and dad sit in grime, dust and rubble, eating cold beans out the tin, perched on an orange box? Ok, slight exaggeration but you catch my drift.

Oh no! I just KNOW I'm going to call him Mr Tiswas. I just know it. Darn. Actually I was joking with the nurses last night doing my best Manc accent; 'Taxi for Mr Biswas'. I think I'm just losing the plot TBH but if it brings laughter into other people's lives....hey ho.

I've been informed this morning that Katherine's nocturnal feeding patterns have settled into a 1am then a 7am affair. Fabuloso for moi when she finally arrives chez JW.

Off to buying a (magic/flying) carpet now fit for royalty.

Catch ya laterz...

jeanjeannie · 03/09/2008 20:46

Ah johnworf - losing the plot - there's a lot to be said for it. I've found that it's worked for me - for years

I'm VERY of Katherine's feeding patterns. Verity was like that a while ago and now it's all lying in ruins! Yes, I believe it's a conspiracy by the girls - to keep me awake and drive me into the ground. I will then be so zombified (definately a word!) that I'll give in to their every whim. Amazing what they can do when they can't speak

Hope flying carpet looks nice. Did you take it home or wait for it to deliver itself....

Quiet on here today. I'm meeting Kaz1967 tomorrow and her gorgeous Kez - Oh I DO hope my two behave!!! I shall make sure they're both washed and fragrant.....for a change

OP posts:
johnworf · 03/09/2008 21:11

jeanjeaanie hope you and kaz have a nice time over gin and scones. Say hi from us Check girls for nits first just in case....

We're off on our travels in the ambulance tomorrow so will let you know what the man says (look into my eyes).

Not got K home yet so her feeding may go to pot once home. We'll see. Your LO's are def in cahoots. The plan is working to drive poor mother doolally (yep, it's def a word!).

Decorator is doing a sterling job and I've spent most of afternoon standing in K's room just admiring and imagining her in it - complete with nice wallpaper hanging in tatters from all areas approx 1 foot off the ground and the rest covered in crayon. Just looking to the future.....

hedgepig · 04/09/2008 09:46

Johnworf hope the hosp went Ok this morning. I think you have the right idea about using a decorator, we now have the celing plastered in beanies room but I have no idea when we will be able to get the paper hung and painted. I am banned from climbing ladders but I think when I have finished next week the nesting urge may get too much. Until I have the room straight I don't want to get the babay stuff from the loft cos I have nowhere to put it (i think I'm going to have to clear some space in my wardrobe) panic is statring to set in .
jeanjeannie I have just been on BBC news and there is a link to an exhibition in praise of red hair, I couldn't see the video cos I'm at work and videos are blocked.

mrsboogie · 04/09/2008 12:25

hedgepig I thought for a second there that you had actually been on the news but were being remarkably cool about it!

jw what news? hope its good.

ehm and my news - just got back from diabetes antenatal clinic where I met my consultant for the first time. She's pretty damn hot at putting the wind up you I can tell you. Told me baby is huge, effing ginormous in fact, and I am carrying around a monstrous amount of fluid. Said they can't let me go past next week so I am being brought in on Monday night for induction on Tuesday morning. Last week the doctor I saw said I had " a bit of excess fluid" and baby was "on the big side". The week before when I had a private scan he was just above average and the fluid levels were normal. This week he is huge and has been living in "unstable" conditions for some weeks... I don't know how they can tell this. Anyhoo, Tuesday it is ladies.

Got shown around the induction rooms by lovely midwife and it all looks very clean and nice and I didn't realise that when being induced you get your own ensuite room and pull out sofa etc for OH to stay over on. Was impressed. But a bit freaked out cos I didn't realise that induction takes three days.

FloriaTosca · 04/09/2008 12:58

JW Any news yet?
Mrs Boogie; Some doctors are "wait and see" and others are "better out than in"...I have a friend who was told for weeks she was having a 10lb+ er and needed cs..she insisted on natural, they wanted induction early, she insisted on term, they induced at 8pm and sent dh home, she went to the loo at 3am and delivered her ds herself on the floor 2mins later! He weighed 6lb 13oz! So much for 10lb+!!!
I was induced too(10 days early)... your ensuite and sofa bed for dh!.. At 3pm they told me I had only a 50/50 chance of natural would I have a planned cs? I said no. They started me off with the pessary then, added the drip an epidural at 8pm and he arrived at 7.23am the next morning..so it doesnt have to take 3 days!
How exciting though that you now know it is Tuesday!

hedgepig · 04/09/2008 13:27

MrsB - cripes that was all a bit sudden. are they not going to scan you to check the fluid levels? I do find the paplpating and then making broad statements a little un-scintific tbh (probably because of my missed breech last time).
I'm glad they have a nice room for you and DH can stay with you. You will have your DS early next week how exciting, you may have to get some clotes and things at the weekend. I woke up yesterday and really wanted the baby to be in my arms whihc is the 1st time I have felt this in either pg, it was rather weird. Last day @ work tomorrow then I can wibble on MN for hours, bliss

mrsboogie · 04/09/2008 13:39

nope - I asked if they would scan again and she dismissed the idea outright saying a scan won't tell us anything more now. She did say to me that I should be more comfortable now as, after 2 weeks on the diet with the blood sugar levels reduced, my fluid levels should have gone down and funny enough since yesterday my tummy has been less painful. She said with all the fluid you are carrying it would be really bad if your waters broke at home and all flooded out at once. They want it trickling out nicely apparetly...

I am excited sort of - glad it is going to be next week but worried that it will go wrong cos inductions quite often seem to. Just wish it was this time next week!

hedgepig · 04/09/2008 13:46

I've never had an induction but there do seem to be some horror stories out there. There was a thread a few weeks ago asking for good induction stories and there were some very positive stories, I think even though you are being induced you need to try and be mobile and upright if you can to help things along.

hedgepig · 04/09/2008 14:13

I found the positive induction thread (from April, what on earth was I reading about induction for in April!) here happy reading.
