Definitely too hot. The food bill in our house has gone down big time, the kids aren't eating and I'm not eating and by the time dh has struggled across london with the trains going at 5mph he just wants to hog the fan! Too hot to stand in front of the stove.

Does anyone know a reasonably comfortable way to sleep? I get too hot with a pillow between my knees. I keep sleeping on my back but all the advice seems to be anti this. Plus as I'm down to wearing just pants in bed keep getting woken in the morning by ds's jiggling bits I'd really rather they didn't!

ANGELMOTHER · 08/08/2003 10:47

Hope the thrush is clearing Lisalisa agree with Pie in this heat it must be worse

Samacon the food bill has gone done alot in this house also, if we manage to boil a pot of pasta we're doing well, it seems to be sandwiches and fruit all day.

As for sleeping, if I had the answer I'd patent it and be a millionaire. I have a cold shower before I go to bed, no-one in our house is wearing any nightclothes, we all sleep with just a sheet and I try to go to bed early on my own so as to settle easier (in theory).

Can you believe dh said to me last night he was feeling v.frustrated (it's prob been 2 months now) and any chance of a s**g. This was at 10pm after dd whining for a hour going to bed, several excrutiating leg cramps later (for me) and as this babe is transverse I've had horrible back pain all of which dh knows about.

I will not repeat what I said to him

ANGLEMOTHER - let me guess, you said, "No dear, perhaps not tonight..."

ANGELMOTHER · 08/08/2003 11:29

Something along those lines Oakmaiden

I have been looking for tips to keep cool and couldn't find anything really useful apart from install air/con. Bit expensive for the weeks heatwave in UK. However I did find these ones. Everyone probably knows them, but here goes.

Close curtains during the day especially on the sunny side as it keeps the house cooler.

Tea/coffee/hot drinks do cool you down.

Fans circulate hot air but make it feel cooler. So worth having one really.

Eating hot/heavy food can make you hotter. Apparently you are supposed to stick to cold food (but if hot drinks cool you down I don't quite get that).

Put damp towels on yourself.

Now I am going to go to B&Q, get fan, wet a towel, eat salad, close blinds and see if it works.

Anyone else got any good tips.

wiltshire · 08/08/2003 12:44

As for s*gging, far too hot for any of that. I have had to tell DH to go to medicine cabinet and look for bottle of big 'f*k off' pills and take one. (scuse the french)

ANGELMOTHER · 08/08/2003 13:05

LOL Wiltshire might try that one

Well today I faced my worst fear......shopping on a Saturday in the market, cinema and the park all in this heat being 36 weeks pregnant and ds without his buggy. Despite my initial worries I didn't spontaneously combust or break down in tears of desperation with the stress of it all. Ds did though, (tears I mean). He wanted every toy in every shop which he thought was perfectly reasonable. But I kept calm and I received some wonderful looks from people. Most of them sympathetic type glances but a few just looked at me in horror as I bribed a 3 year old around town, heavily pregnant and loaded down with bags. I think now is the time when any normal activity that I could undertake will be enthusiastically applauded by anyone who notices. I did however get home, find the cartoon network and then collapse in a cold bath...for the rest of the day, but nobody needs to know that.

EmmaTMG · 10/08/2003 08:04

I applaud you too Bekki, as I had to do a similar task yesterday but again it did go quite smoothly.
I had to sort out a new mortgage has DH was at work and couldn't do it and believe me this was a very scary thought as I haven't used my brain for that type of thing, that much, since I worked before DS1 was born 4.5 years ago. I'm very pleased with myself though as I think I actually looked like I knew what I was talking about!
I know what you mean about the looks you get from other people, on a few occaisions I noticed them looking at DS1 then DS2 in the buggy and my fat belly and then the shopping. Sadly some of those looks weren't always nice looks though......why do people feel the need to turn their noses up? I felt like sticking my fingers up in return!

ANGELMOTHER · 10/08/2003 12:14

I thoroughly admire both of you, and have to agree about the looks peoople give.

I was in sainsburys last week with a massive trolley heading back to the car on the escalator which magnetises the trolley so you can't move it. A woman behind was huffing and puffing wanting to get by and when we got to the end she gave me a scruffy look as she "eventually" passed me out.
I ask you what the f**k did she expect me do, it was taking all my energy just being there......

I could continue this rant but well you understand.....

BTW has anyone noticed the unusual large % of pg women by freezer cabinets in Sainsburys.
Is this where all pg mumsnetters go

I used to get some awful looks when I was pregnant with ds, most of them deserved though as I was 18 and extremely miserable. This time around its different, its as though having obviously brought one child up succesfully its perfectly acceptable to be pregnant again. I haven't noticed any obvious negative looks, but then I'm just so happy to be having a healthy pregnancy I don't care what people think. Although being this big in this heat has made me a little bit irrate, overall I've never felt so contented. I'm probably just enjoying the peace until ds2 arrives. But EMMATMG, 2 kids in a buggy, how on earth are you still pushing that around. My poor ds was ordered out of his buggy permanantly when I was 6 months pregnant. i have found that since he has been out of his buggy I haven't received one bad look from strangers. Its as though buggies instantly put a negative image in peoples minds. I'll enjoy the freedom of not having to push one of those around for the next few weeks at least. ANGELMOTHER you'll find me in the freezer department at Safeways, near the ice-pops.

EmmaTMG · 11/08/2003 07:52

Morning ladies.....Did we all jump for joy this morning when the sun wasn't streaming through the window. I did a little hop as jumping might cause abit of structural damage to the house!

Bekki, I envy you on the buggy front but DS2 is only just 2 so the thought of chasing him around the shops is much less appealing the lugging the buggy around. Believe me given a chance he'd walk anywhere and everywhere but that would make me into some sort of olyimpic athlete and it would not be a pretty sight.......me in lycra!

pie · 11/08/2003 08:19

Where are you EmmaTMG??? ITs still roasting here in West London

I've had about 4 hours sleep.

EmmaTMG · 11/08/2003 08:25

Morning pie, I'm in Sutton/Surrey boarders and I'm horified to see that the misty grey sky that I saw at 7am this morning is turning blue. I could cry as the weather on GMTV said we'd have some rain today.
Yeah Right.....my arse!

pie · 11/08/2003 08:32

hi Emma, if it doesn't rain today I will cry. I sat in a cold bath until 2am trying to cool down. DD kept insisting she wanted a blanket. Honestly what is wrong with the woman

EmmaTMG · 11/08/2003 08:41

DS1 did that with his duvet last might and when I went in to check him about 45 minutes after he'd gone to bed he was soaked, his pillow had a huge wet patch and his bed had wet patches from him sweating so much, The thermometer(sp?)upstairs didn't go below 30*c all night so why he wanted a duvet on him I'll never know. They're funny little things aren't they.

And now I will just sit and sob as the bloody sun is shining now.
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ANGELMOTHER · 11/08/2003 09:39

Morning ladies, today I have to admit you can write me off as completely fruitcake.
Last night I had another cold shower before the attempted sleep and lay in bed for an hour scratching my head.
As dd had nits about a month ago as I lay there hot bothered and itchy at 2am, I thought I'd better check my hair.
So at 2am I was to be found nit combing my hair in the living room..............daft

I'm in Surrey and we had one big burst of thunder and a heavy downpour at 6:30am but the bl*y sun is streaming through the windows now.

NOT FAIR

ANGELMOTHER, I too have been itching like mad, not my head though. Did you find any of the wee monsters though???

The lovely presents our children can give us eh?

EmmaTMG · 11/08/2003 09:55

ANGELMOTHER, I'm in surrey too, well more Sutton actually, but we haven't had any thunder or rain.
The temp is rising again too. NOT AMUSED!
Sister and niece are coming to visit today which is the last thing I need as they want to go to Ikea and I can't go to Ikea in my near naked state to keep cool, can I!?!? Phew what a sight that would be!

Hope you didn't find any little creatures lurking last night.

ANGELMOTHER · 11/08/2003 15:34

No none were found, what was I thinking ?????

Still HOT but thankfully not as bad as yesterday....

wiltshire · 12/08/2003 01:57

Well, it's now 01.50 in the morning. I have noticed you all posting during the day. Well I can't bloody sleep. It's too hot. I am having all of the horrid thoughts I imagine we all get at night. Got up and made a cup of tea. Just made me wee. I cannot imagine how you already mothers deal with children & pregnancy. I nagged my DH into going to Lakeside today to ikea, he argued a bit, but I held my corner. What a mistake. He was fine, I was ill. By the way, I live in Southend (but come from Hertfordshire, so not Essex Girl). I thought I was going into labour in car on way. When I stood up the back of my dress (ex large) was wet, but alas it was just wet from being fat & in a car. Having done this journey with DH, I have probably realised what you girls do with other childeebeasts!! I think you all should get a medal & a 'pot noodle award' for being great!!

wiltshire · 12/08/2003 01:59

Ikea, was not busy and got good deal on baby flannels 10 for a quid.

EmmaTMG · 12/08/2003 07:41

I'm hoping to find out today what we've got wriggling around in here. You may rememeber a while back(or may not) that we've got to get the babes kidneys checked as they were on the lowest measurement(4mm) for further checks at 20 weeks and today is the day.
Bad mother that I am, I'm not too worried about the result as if there is a 'problem', the baby will have a course of antibiotics when he or she is born and that will cure/solve it. I'm more looking foward to finding out whether we'll have another DS or a DD. Am I being bad?
Going to have to keep it a secret from DH though as he still wants a surprise, bless him. I'll let you all know of course........Appointment is at 9:40 so I'll let yo know ASAP
