Come here and obsess about mucus, etc.
Have fun.
Try not to swear too much.
Oh actually, go for it.
The phrase "any news?" is BANNED. Offenders will be sat on by the most overdue woman present.

fully effaced soft cervix at 1cm dilated and she could feel babies head

She suggested doing the biz with DH to help things along

She thought bouncing on the trampoline not a good idea though.

fryalot · 18/07/2008 19:06

hatrick- you're supposed to be a whingey old moo on this thread! moan away.

where is that ulmelelllea one? I bet she's off having a baby!

min912 · 18/07/2008 20:08

Congrats Franny, I know it sounds silly but you have given me faith! They do come out in the end!

Midwife unit won't do sweeps before 41 weeks so I have to call next friday and see if they can fit me in/fit in me.
TMI alert
Gave the DIY method a go, first time could only tickle the end, second time tried 2 fingers, bit better but it all seemed very squashy, is that good?? Think all closed though, still couldn't get very far. As a result I feel... like I've been poked in the cervix. Am hoping the general vibes might entice it out. Bit of an argument with DH this avo due to over-tiredness on both parts (although obviously I am MUCH more tired due to the fact that I am generously carrying his child) so I think the natural method might be out. Apparently on woman's hour they suggested bouncing on a see-saw, as it's raining I guess the ball will have to do instead...

FrannyandZooey · 18/07/2008 20:43

we are doing more of a LOO-shan pronunciation
or it is kind of a mix, I am not totally sure
some people are saying "oh LooCIen" and some people are saying "oh LOOshen" and some people are saying it spot on, but I am not sure I am saying it right myself
we are deciding middle name now

Aitch yes our girls name was Dulcie! Sweetness and Light

FrannyandZooey · 18/07/2008 20:44

ExterminAitch · 18/07/2008 20:48

CAN'T believe i didn't cop to Lucian. what was i thinking? you'll have to get working on a Dulcie in a year or so.

so happy for you, frank, truly.

how's feeding going? my highly experienced bfing chum recently had her second, thought it would be a doddle ad it wasn't. took her a while to realise that she wasn't being as careful with pillows etc cos she'd got so used to having a child with developed neck muscles. once she remembered that ds2 couldn't support his head, things clicked. i pass this on purely as an anecdote, of course, i'm sure it's all going fably.

FrannyandZooey · 18/07/2008 20:48

now big big best wishes to all remaining preggers ones
it will be you next

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/07/2008 20:50

no I don't know Aitch
everyone is saying "ooh yes feeding well" - it seems a bit hit and miss to me
he doesn't open his mouth properly 9 times out of 10
mind you I had nowhere near cracked it with ds at this stage last time

as for Dulcie I think I was heard to say "I am NEVER doing this again"
I think it was about the same time the gas and air ran out - I am blaming all my bad behaviour during labour on that incident

lulumama · 18/07/2008 21:15

sorry franny, please go to sleep !! x

Umlellala · 18/07/2008 21:18

Hello! Have skimmed thread - Franny Hooray and CONGRATS to you... and would you believe my little baby boy (Skyler/Sky Harvey) held on til 3.36pm out of politeness to yours!! told you he would

Well, my birth story was LOONY - as appropriate for the full moon I guess. I THOUGHT my pains were all due to UTI (and constipation). Was in agony yesterday afternoon(as you can see from the other thread) - was acutally sobbing at one point but didn't really know who to call... . Bath calmed them down. And evening was manageable back pains - had bath when they got too bad... by midnight it was getting really really bad again and I was just thinking SHIT,I am not gonna get ANY sleep again and am gonna have to try and get htem to induce so that I can finally sleep. Was getting contractiony back pains that were really hard to bear (thought it was wee-related so was sitting on toilet a lot) and had decided to put a maternity pad on so I could wet myself a little bit to get some sleep ...

Well, at 1.32am my waters broke. Then they properly GUSHED. And before I knew it I was in more AGONY counting through the pain (only to 30) every minute. Dh decided it would be a good time to put the dishwasher on and take the rubbish out and so by the time he had faffed about and I had changed my trousers three times, we got to the hospital about 2.30pm. Well, I somehow got to the delivery suite and waited to be assessed. Was contracting every minute, seen in about 4 minutes - but by then was climbing on the bed and fully dilated and pretty much ready to push!! . i HAD wanted a lovely epidural like last time and said so on the phone (think they probably laughed when they heard me panting). BUT NO TIME for any pain relief at all.

Basically, by 3.36am (so prob less than an hour!!) - baby Skyler had been born. No pain relief. My worst nightmare!!!But actually was really really positive and amazing. Think it was testament to the fabulous staff at Homerton Hospital that I have now had two amazing births there - and one with lots of intervention (epidural, constantly monitored, nearly caesearean, ventouse etc) and one with none.

Am shell-shocked, on an amazing high and feeling v powerful!

Umlellala · 18/07/2008 21:27

Oops sorry if you didn't want the full story here

PS Lucien is a great name, Franny!

ExterminAitch · 18/07/2008 21:30

well done and congratulations to you too!

hunkermunker · 18/07/2008 21:31

Congrats, Umlellala! What a fab birth that sounds!

Franny, I would say Lucian as you are saying it, I think - it's lovely. Wrt feeding, I found it odd feeding DS2 - thought I had it cracked, but had forgotten how to feed a tiny baby and wasn't as careful about positioning as I could've been - cue lumpy boob and mastitis on day 10. It is hit and miss though, to begin with, ime - the "electric shock" rooting reflex was frustrating (and amusing - depending how much sleep I'd had!) - where they get in seemingly the right place, then dive off over their shoulder, as if somehow your breast is sneaking up on them.

And aw, you have a DS2, of course! I highly recommend them - mine was two and a half today!

MamaG · 18/07/2008 22:07

Well done Umlellala! Your birth sounds like my second baby - no time for pain relief but quick

Right, who's next?

Jamie - I'm not a MW or a doula or even remotely knowledgeable about birth but I think, based on nothing whatsoever apart from my witchy intuition (which had Franny giving birth today ) that you'll go into labour on Monday and delivery Tuesday
