My left boob has leaked all morning so that my nightie (yes, still not dressed) has a rather attractive crispy white top left quadrant.

I do hope someone comes to visit me. I look so attractive.

Every morning DH says as he leaves for work 'You can go into labour now if you like', somehow implying that I'm sitting here going 'No thanks, right now isn't good for me actually'. All I can think of as a 'witty' retort is 'Well you know what YOU have to do to help bring it on' (i.e. the natural prostaglandins method). That does usually shut him up until the next morning... I mean, who wouldn't want to get with how I look now?!

Can't help but think that nothing will happen until I get my 'to-do' list done, but unfortunately things keep getting added to it. Grrrr! Evil midwife comes back on monday so I have to give birth by then.

Will they give you a sweep before you are technically overdue??

ponto · 15/07/2008 11:43

Franny, I have just come back from my antenatal clinic appointment, the doctor there was very positive about not necessarily having induction just because you get to so many days overdue. She did a scan to look at the baby's heart and the fluid volume, said everything was fine. I asked to be booked for induction on Sunday (when I will be 15 days overdue, so I would have to go to the consultant unit even if I went into labour spontaneously, as midwife unit will not take me if I'm over 42 weeks). The doctor said that if I change my mind, that's fine, I can just go for a CTG every couple of days and have another scan to check the fluid volume. She really played down risks to the baby. So if you want to continue to wait, and baby is fine, then carry on.

Had another stretch and sweep, cervix hasn't changed since last time - thick, soft, 2cm dilated (but only because I've had 2 babies, I think). Head is not high any more though so maybe there is hope for me before Sunday

springerspaniel · 15/07/2008 11:45

Don't think so min912.

I keep thinking of things on my 'to-do' list that must be stopping baby coming out, e.g. decorate room, build cot, shave legs (did this yesterday after loooooooong time).

Remembered one more today - back up photos from computer and wipe camera.

Doing this now so obviously baby will then come.

FrannyandZooey · 15/07/2008 11:48

min yes they can do

ponto that is really helpful and sounds reassuring for you

So so sorry ladies Bethany Anna Grace arrived at 4.25am this morning after a hour and a half labour weighing 8lbs 5ozs, she shot out like a rocket.

Didn't feel like that at the time, the last bit happened very fast will post the whole story later.

springerspaniel · 15/07/2008 12:46

My first labour was really fast and REALLY painful.

Prepare yourself for a lifetime of 'ooh - you had it easy' comments SweetKitty.

Scares the crap out of me that this one could be the same or faster.

sweetkitty · 15/07/2008 12:49

First labour was 4h 20m, second 2h 30m, this one 1h 30m from waking up in a pool of waters.

Yes they may be fast but very very painful, got by on the lovely gas and air. Second births are easier though springer you will be fine.

MamaG · 15/07/2008 12:51

Congratulations sweetkitty, very pleased for you

mrsmacleod · 15/07/2008 13:30

F&Z what's your due date? I might be more overdue than you. I have two - 2/7 and 6/7 (one based on scans, the other on my dates). My midwives have kindly agreed to go with the later one so to give me more time as I'm terrified of induction (really want a homebirth this time).

Have just returned home from 2nd v. expensive acupuncture session and nothing is happening. Having a sweep tomorrow morning, fun!

Am sick of eating spicy food...

springerspaniel · 15/07/2008 13:39

Sweep at 2:30 today.

Threw up entire lunch with fright.

Just tried to drink glass of water but poured it over myself instead. What a complete dork.

FrannyandZooey · 15/07/2008 14:39

oh sweetkitty that is wonderful, congratulations as well as envy

mrsmac it was the 4th

springer oh dear I do hope it has not been that bad
I am sorry you were so worried, perhaps I have been lucky but although not pleasant my sweeps have been ok

I'm not really coping with things too well
don't know what to do about it
I can't fall over in a corner weeping as I would like to as I have ds most of the time
I have been making an effort but it isn't really working - poor child

Yesterday's slappable comment from random stranger (check-out woman in homebase)

Check-out woman (COW): Long to go?
Me: Just under a week.
COW: Oooh, you are carrying very high.
Me: Well I've got this supportive belt on and that pushes the bump up a fair bit.
COW: Can't say I've ever heard of those. But you are very high up.
Me (through gritted teeth and petering out half-way through as I realise there is no point): Second babies don't engage until you're in labour anyway... thanks, bye.

I didn't realise that Homebase also do courses in obstetrics for their staff...

mrsmacleod · 15/07/2008 15:18

Is it just me or is it too hot to be this pregnant this afternoon? It's stifling here in London town

fryalot · 15/07/2008 15:54

sweetkitty - well done and congratulations

right. SK's set the ball rolling who's next
