My client 2 births ago went to 14+5. Her mw was happy for her to give birth at home as all was well with her and the baby. Sadly said mw went on leave and ultraconservative HB mw assessed her and transferred her in. She had a lovely birth which she could've done at home.

Franny... there's no reason for you to lose your homebirth. Once you hit the 14 days you can agree to go in for monitoring which is a good idea as it allows them to keep an eye on the placenta. The worry is that the placenta starts to fail.

Try not to worry and do let yourself relax. Talk to the baby. Tell babe that it's time to come now.

MamaG · 12/07/2008 20:52

The daft thing is, we'd go mad if they tried to force you into something you didn't want to do, but being given free reign is scary isn't it.

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 20:53

It's ok mama... I was typing before your nose got brown! lol

MamaG · 12/07/2008 20:53

I love you marsy

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 20:54

oh and as term is 37-42 weeks you're not actually overdue until 42+1

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 20:55

yy with ds they were desperate to get him out and I was so indignant and it was marvellous because I had to be all bolshy (knowing quite well it wasn't risky at all really )

Mars I am happy to have monitoring but doesn't that only really reassure you for the half an hour per day or whatever that you are hooked up?
how can they really know what the placenta is doing?

that is good about the HB, though, thank you

and am I right about the dates thing? I know I ovulated well before 14 days or whatever is standard

There are clues and they have time to see. They're rather good at their jobs. I'm sure if they needed longer monitoring then that is what they would tell people. My ladies go in and come out.

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 20:59

I mean i just don't know what they do, what they are looking at, how they tell
if the placenta is ok that morning does it mean it will be ok that afternoon?

Franny... I have yet to meet someone that they kept in to monitor all day unless there was a worry.

Stop fretting. That will hold the baby in.

Now... rent a comedy and get thyself laughing. Open up that body woman!

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 21:05

I do love it when people tell me it is my mental state that is responsible for the baby coming

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 21:05

oops NOT coming

Franny... trust me. I'm Mars

I've seen women who've held their babies in with their fretting.

Whether or not it is the case with you and your babe... RELAX!

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 21:08

In the next few days you'll be posting your birth story and saying how wonderful I am it was!

I'm only "allowed" a homebirth from 39-42 weeks as thats all the health authority will provide MW cover for.

MW is already talking about induction at 12 days over and as DP will have had about 3 weeks off work before that and will still need paternity leave I'm feeling that I probably would go in to be induced, plus I am in agony with SPD.

Mars - tell me it is very unlikely having had two spontaneous labours before in less than 4 years that my third will happen?

F&Z - from my dates and cycle and knowing when I ovulated I am 4 days overdue not 2 and this was backed up by an early scan too that had the baby 2-3 days over LMP date but they love their spinny chart don't they, cannot possibly deviate from the spinny chart. Thing is womens bodies and babies don't get to see the spinny chart do they?

lulumama · 12/07/2008 21:19

agree with mars

when i was pregnant with DD, i had a list of stuff i wanted to do , and when i ticked the last thing off my list, i had a hindwater leak about an hour or two later. i went into labour the following morning

you need to let go, unwind, relax and laugh, have a glass of wine, a bath and some hot nekkid loving, if nothing else, you will be too busy to care you are not in labour!

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 21:20

I didn't think they were supposed to induce if you had SPD (PGP as it's now called)

Yes it will happen. Talk to the baby.

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 21:21

"some hot nekkid loving"

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 21:22

sweetkitty don't blame you at all for thinking about the induction
I just want to avoid another forceps delivery if at all possible - I had a difficult recovery after ds's birth and shudder at going through that again
I know my best chance of avoiding epidural / forceps etc is to go into labour spontaneously - that's why I am a bit het up about it - not because I think it all has to be 'natural' or anything

is dp off work to help you with spd?

Mars come round and relax me and hatrick, won't you?

sweetkitty · 12/07/2008 21:22

Never been mentioned to me Mars, theres a few women I have heard of being induced early at 38/39 weeks due to SPD (PGP). (Don't like Pelvic Girdle Pain doesn't sound severe enough).

MarsLady · 12/07/2008 21:23

Franny... are you wanting "some hot nekkid loving" or my soothing relaxing tone?

I'm going to investigate more about SPD and induction. Hertsnessex is the one with the knowledge on that

FrannyandZooey · 12/07/2008 21:24

ooh dear it did sound a bit dodgy didn't it?

dp is obliging on the HNL, thank you
