Any other first-time mums-to-be just found out they’re pregnant?

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant and, according to my dates, I’m currently 5 weeks + 4 days. It’s my first pregnancy at 39.

So far my main symptoms are headaches, bloating, constipation, and a little bit of nausea. The nausea is manageable at the moment as long as I eat regularly, I’ve already got ginger biscuits by the bed ready for first thing in the morning!

I thought I’d start a thread to see if there are any other first-time mums-to-be around the same stage who fancy a chat. As it’s all still very new, and I’m not quite ready to move over to WhatsApp groups yet, it would be lovely to compare symptoms, share milestones, worries and excitement, and hopefully support each other through the first trimester and beyond.

Anyone else due around the same time and fancy joining me? 😊

Hello, I'm also 5 weeks + 4 days and first pregnancy! I've had lots of cramping (some as bad as period pain), headaches, heavy/sore boobs and exhaustion. Today a new symptom of vaginal pressure/heaviness 🙈. Surprised so many symptoms so early! Thankfully haven't had nausea yet, hoping it stays that way 😄.

Every symptom I'm obsessively googling to understand what it means 🤭

Are you planning on having an early scan or waiting for the 12 week NHS one? I've got a 6 week scan booked on Tuesday

Springcloud26 · 13/06/2026 12:32

Welcome @ButterscotchBabe and congratulations!

I know what you mean about the amount of symptoms, I’m worried how I am going to keep it hidden over the next few weeks! The headaches are bothering me the most - I think probably hormonal / reduction in caffeine related.

I’ve filled in the form to refer myself to NHS care, and still waiting to hear, but may consider an earlier scan as I don’t think I can wait until 12 weeks! I might wait until 8 weeks?

There is so much to learn, I’m reading a lot and trying to take it all in 😊

Hi, I’ve also recently found out I’m pregnant. I’m 4+6, I’m 33. I’ve waited a long time for this so I’m super excited, although a little anxious. I had cramping for about a week up to when my period was due and then for a few days afterwards but it seems to have stopped now. My main symptom is probably sleep disturbance - I’ve been waking around 3am for the past week and struggling to sleep after that. I felt a bit nauseous yesterday but not so bad today. I’m quite bloated too!

ButterscotchBabe · 13/06/2026 18:30

@Springcloud26 trying to convince myself symptoms are a good thing but doesn't make it any easier 😣. I had an awful headache yesterday but today it's gone, so hopefully yours will pass soon. I'm finding all these symptoms come and go, they're generally not constant. Are you finding the same?

12 weeks feels like such a long wait! Mine is an IVF pregnancy and we transferred 2 embryo's, so I'm desperate to find out if we've got 1 or 2. 8 weeks would be a good time to do a scan as the baby will be clearly visible by then 😊

@HopefulK Hello! I've had some pretty awful cramping too and the odd sharper pain. Apparently it's all due to the uterus and round ligaments stretching 🤷‍♀️. Not looking forward to another 8 months of this 😄

Springcloud26 · 13/06/2026 19:12

@HopefulK Hello! The bloating is so uncomfortable, I went shopping today for stretchy leggings as usually wear jeans and couldn’t face them! Hope you sleep better tonight. Will you have an early scan?

@ButterscotchBabe I had a nap this afternoon and after waking up, no headache or nausea after feeling awful all day! I guess we’ll start to see patterns over the next few weeks!

HopefulK · 13/06/2026 19:57

I’m not sure if we’ll have an early scan…12 weeks does feel an age away though. And actually I read somewhere on the nhs website that the scan can be anywhere between 11-14 weeks so it could actually be even longer to wait than 12 weeks!!

Springcloud26 · 14/06/2026 08:55

Morning @ButterscotchBabe @HopefulK how are you both feeling today? I feel much better today than I did yesterday, you are right that symptoms are inconsistent!

5+5 here! 🙋‍♀️

Main symptoms so far are fatigue, cramping and mild nausea - and sometimes a hard-to-describe weird mouth taste?!

It's my first pregnancy and I'm equal parts anxious and excited, so it'd be nice to join and share the highs and lows with folk in the same boat!

Springcloud26 · 14/06/2026 17:55

Hello @Witchfoot! I am definitely feeling the fatigue too, when I’m not in work I try and fit an afternoon nap in! 😂

LazyCat96 · 15/06/2026 01:39

Hey! I’m 5 weeks with my first pregnancy too 😊 feeling equal parts excited and anxious about what could go wrong. I’m also struggling with sleep and currently wide awake at 1.30am 😂

HopefulK · 15/06/2026 06:47

@LazyCat96 I feel you’re pain, I was also up between 1-3am and then again at 5 🤦🏻‍♀️ other than the sleep issues I feel like my other symptoms have quietened down again @Springcloud26. I’m 5+1 today, feels like time is going soooo slowly!

Springcloud26 · 15/06/2026 08:19

Morning @LazyCat96 @HopefulK I hope your sleep pattern settles for you both soon, it must be exhausting along with having fatigue anyway!

My symptoms seem to have settled again too. I know what you mean about time going slowly - this is like the TWW again! 😂

I booked an early scan for next Tuesday when I’ll be 7 weeks.

What swung the decision to get an early scan in the end @Springcloud26?

I'm currently pondering it... 12 weeks feels so far away!

Springcloud26 · 15/06/2026 12:54

@Witchfoot I just don’t think I could wait until 12 weeks! 😂 I’m not feeling anxious as such, as no reason to suggest things aren’t progressing as expected, but I’d rather know earlier for some reassurance. It also adds another milestone, which helps me a little as I am struggling with the lack of control, if that makes sense!

How are you feeling today?

OP posts:
Witchfoot · 15/06/2026 15:13

Haha, that's totally fair @Springcloud26! I understand what you mean about having milestones to feel like you're another step closer.

I'm feeling pretty good today, a bit of nausea this morning but otherwise about as well as I've felt since missing my period.

Really hoping it stays that way as I have my work probation review coming up...! 😂

Springcloud26 · 15/06/2026 16:21

@Witchfoot oh good luck! Does your job allow you to work from home? I’m worried about how to hide it over the next few weeks when I’m in the office… it’ll be fine if I feel like I have done today, but expecting to feel worse again!

OP posts:
Witchfoot · 15/06/2026 16:32

Thank you! Yes, I'm hybrid so thankfully I only have to manage a day or two in the office per week. I still have The Fear about suddenly being struck down with morning sickness though!

Springcloud26 · 15/06/2026 17:25

@Witchfoot I’ve definitely got that fear too! First day in office tomorrow since I found out, it’s going to feel strange!

OP posts:
Witchfoot · 15/06/2026 18:00

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great 😊

(I've been taking in emergency bags of Mini Cheddars to stave off hunger/quease which have helped no end!)

Springcloud26 · 16/06/2026 17:32

@Witchfoot Work was fine today, and apart from the continued bloating / gas no other symptoms! So now I’m worried because I felt okay 😂

How is everyone else doing?

OP posts:
HopefulK · 16/06/2026 18:33

I felt really tired this morning (was awake from 3-5) and bloated but otherwise feel ok! Have moments when I completely forget I’m pregnant 🤦🏻‍♀️

Springcloud26 · 16/06/2026 18:45

@HopefulK me too! 😂 I’m sorry to hear you were awake again in the night, that must be exhausting.

I had a missed call from maternity services today, I imagine to get the booking appoint scheduled. Does anyone have it arranged yet?

OP posts:
HopefulK · 16/06/2026 18:54

@Springcloud26 i haven’t heard anything yet, but I think I’m a bit behind you so that’s probably why.

LazyCat96 · 17/06/2026 06:13

@Springcloud26 I got my appointment date really quickly but it’s not until I’m 11 weeks as maternity services are really busy in my area!

I’ve been feeling pretty bloated and gassy 😂 nausea is starting to ramp up a bit too. Sleep is the worst for me though! Woke up at 4.15am this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep 😅

Springcloud26 · 17/06/2026 14:07

@LazyCat96 Nausea seems to be holding off for me so far luckily! I do suffer with hunger sickness/dizziness anyway when I don’t eat regularly so have always got into the habit of little and often! Fingers crossed your sleep starts to improve!
