Any other first-time mums-to-be just found out they’re pregnant?

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant and, according to my dates, I’m currently 5 weeks + 4 days. It’s my first pregnancy at 39.

So far my main symptoms are headaches, bloating, constipation, and a little bit of nausea. The nausea is manageable at the moment as long as I eat regularly, I’ve already got ginger biscuits by the bed ready for first thing in the morning!

I thought I’d start a thread to see if there are any other first-time mums-to-be around the same stage who fancy a chat. As it’s all still very new, and I’m not quite ready to move over to WhatsApp groups yet, it would be lovely to compare symptoms, share milestones, worries and excitement, and hopefully support each other through the first trimester and beyond.

Anyone else due around the same time and fancy joining me? 😊

Hi everyone! I’m 36 and am pregnant with my first child via IVF (just hit the 5 week mark this week)so absolutely buzzing but horrendously anxious as well but my embryo has been PGTA tested so trying not to worry too much and just
enjoy this special time! Scan is booked for July 16th for seven week scan where hopefully we will see a heartbeat🤞🏻

Springcloud26 · 04/07/2026 20:16

Welcome @CMGC and congratulations! Hope all goes well for your scan! Are you having any symptoms?

How is everyone else doing?

I had an early scan on Tuesday, thought I was around 6+4 but measured 6 weeks - gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole. Hoping it is just too early, but it has increased my anxiety and finding it hard to remain positive until rescan on the 10th. Still not having many symptoms other than bloating, tiredness and a little nausea today for the first time.

Welcome @Gingineer and congratulations! How has your sleep been recently? I’m so tired I have naps in the day when I can and still able to fall asleep quickly at night, I’ve been waking at 5 though!

sleep is still disturbed. I fall back asleep easily enough. Although on Thursday it got to 5.45 and I'd had enough so just went into work early.
Basically instead of my usual once or twice a night wake ups, it's now 3 or 4 times.
Dreams have always been vivid so there's nothing new there either.
My boobs are still so sore been like this 13th of June (ish), ready for that to be over.
Cat stood on my boob the other morning and it was pure agony.
But seriously mild/minor symptoms don't know whether to be worried or not.

6w tomorrow (from LMP).
How's everyone else holding up?

CMGC · 04/07/2026 22:39

Thanks @Springcloud26no symtoms my end either other than a few hormonal spots and a mouth ulcer that I’d always get around my period time. And mild cramping but I’m still on IVF injections so it’s hard to tell if the cramps are from that or the pregnancy! Glad I’m feeling so well so far tho!

ButterscotchBabe · 04/07/2026 22:56

@Springcloud26 try not to worry (I know that's easier said than done), many people don't see much at 6 weeks. How far along will you be on the 10th? About 7.5 weeks? You'll almost certainly see the fetal pole then. Many private scan places don't do scans before 7 weeks, for this reason.

I had an 8 week scan on Wednesday, both little beans are doing well and measuring on track. My main symptoms are bloating, tiredness, indigestion and headaches. Spent all day today feeling hungover, not looking forward to more very hot weather next week 🥵

Thanks @ButterscotchBabe I’ll be 7 + 3 on 10th so I should know one way or the other, will try and keep myself busy this week!

So pleased for you both are progressing well! I know, I’m also dreading the heat again! It definitely makes me feel more tired!

Think the exhaustion has finally hit me. Feel like a zombie this week. Mostly from about 3pm onwards

Springcloud26 · 11/07/2026 14:14

I had my follow up private scan yesterday and it’s not looking like good news, still no fetal pole and gestational sac had only grown by 4mm and looked a more irregular shape. I’m going to phone the EPAU on Monday to try and be seen by them but expecting them to say it’s a missed miscarriage.

That's awful news. So sorry to hear that

What sort of help?
Why has it been two weeks of hell?
Are you just really anxious about things going wrong? Do you have enough information about what you should/shouldn't expect?
How can we help?

I just would like to know if this amount of anxiety is normal? I'm a first time mum and I have no idea what to expect no one has said anything to me... no midwife... my gp just says it's hormones... I'd just like some mum friends going through first time pregnancy so I'd don't feel so alone

ButterscotchBabe · 11/07/2026 16:03

@Springcloud26 I'm so sorry to hear this, hopefully you'll get a clearer answer from the EPAU. If they still can't see fetal pole on the scan, I would ask them to test your HCG level on Monday and Wednesday, that will give an indication if there's a viable pregnancy

Springcloud26 · 11/07/2026 16:44

Thank you @Gingineer , just feeling a bit lost today. How are you doing with your symptoms, hope you are coping in this heat!

Thanks @ButterscotchBabe that’s a good idea, I will ask them to check this too. Hope you are doing okay?

@Springcloud26 ah so sorry you’re experiencing this. Hope you manage to get through to the EPAU asap xx

Gingineer · 11/07/2026 17:37

@Springcloud26 honestly symptoms are pretty chill. The tiredness sucks but it's not quite the bone deep exhaustion I was expecting. That said I have had naps this week when I've gotten home so..... who knows.

@Jessiebee123 this is also my first time but I am a massive nerd so I'm researching everything all the time. I have a tab on my phone for the NHS safe foods to eat page just in case. I am listening to some podcasts to get some general insight; I would say try listen to the first episode of Is it Normal? As that helped me feel a bit more calm though I wasn't experiencing any of the symptoms they mentioned it was just nice to hear people talking about things so I had a rough idea of what to expect.

I also signed up to the Tommy's emails you get one a week talking about what's happening with the fetus each week which is so cool but also I downloaded the Pregnancy+ app which is super cool.
It has told me that at my current stage 6w (+ some days) my baby's eye colour has already been determined and there's a heartbeat. And you can find out the size of your baby each week as a vegetable, a sweet or an "animal" so at 6 weeks the baby is a pea, a chocolate chip or a ladybird 😍.
It has a checklist of things you might want/need so you can start to think about these things.

Okay sorry overload over but feel free to reach out if you want to discuss your concerns.

With me I weirdly have no anxiety about this but I'm somehow still not convinced it's real because I have such mild symptoms but also for example, I don't know if the bloating is from pregnancy or my IBD (auto immune).
I have caved and paid for a private scan next Friday evening so can let you know how that goes.
But you've got this!!

ButterscotchBabe · 11/07/2026 20:56

@Springcloud26 Good luck, will be thinking of you next week. I'm doing okay thanks but experiencing a lot of headaches this week, probably made worse by the heat 😩

@Springcloud26 any news? Did you get through to EPAU?

How's everyone holding up?
Anybody booked a private scan?

HopefulK · 15/07/2026 11:13

@Springcloud26 also been thinking of you and wondering how you’re doing.

@Gingineer nausea and sickness have really ramped up in week 9. Had my first midwife appointment yesterday which was good. We haven’t booked an early scan at the moment, seeing if we can hold out! How are you doing?

Gingineer · 15/07/2026 11:23

@HopefulK oh no. So sorry to hear that.
I had a little blip on Sunday. My husband was lovingly making a mushroom risotto and the smell of the cooking garlic had me rushing straight out the door. Not cooked with garlic since, so not sure if that's still a problem but no other nausea signs as yet. I seem to be coming out of the tiredness a bit (maybe just adjusting to it) which is good. Definitely hungry more often but finding I can't finish my usual evening meal portion size. Strange one.
I'm still struggling to believe it's real. Like how do I know this isn't some phantom pregnancy like animals get?
Got an 8 week appointment next Wednesday anyway so will just have to wait and see.
I mean I am hoping to be one of those lucky few who don't get the nausea and vomiting but it must surely help you believe it's real.

Springcloud26 · 15/07/2026 16:16

Hi @Gingineer @HopefulK It wasn’t good news unfortunately, I had a scan yesterday and they saw the same results as the private scan last Friday. They won’t confirm a loss though until another scan next week.
Luckily I’m off work this week so can have some time to process, thank you for your thoughts ❤️ x

Thank you @ButterscotchBabe @HopefulK it seems to have started today naturally x
