Expecting twins in 2026?

quietblossom · 10/04/2026 17:49

I just wanted to connect with other mums expecting twins.
I am currently 10+5, IVF pregnancy after single embryo transfer (so identical twins), believed to be DCDA but tbc.
It was a bit of a shock at first (logistics, finance, also the more difficult pregnancy) so would love to hear about other people’s experience.

Hello! I’ve just joined mumsnet for this exact sort of chat! I had an IVF transfer too - single embryo - and am expecting twins. I think mine are MCDA to TBC at the 12 week scan. Eeeek!

claireob81 · 10/04/2026 19:36

Oh and I’m 9+5

Congratulations to you too! Not bad. I have had nausea but that seems to have subsided. The main thing has been fatigue - just so tired and getting loads of sleep! Excited and anxious about my 12 week scan - just hoping that they are both still there. It sounds so morbid! Not going to have a scan before then as want to try and wait.

How about you?

WeaselPax · 11/04/2026 07:05

Checking in! Had a private scan yday at what I thought was 8+5 and they found two sacs and strong heartbeats, measuring a week behind. Going back in 2.5weeks for a further scan and NIPT. I have a 2 yr old and this pregnancy was conceived easily, non ivf. So I’m in shock tbh.

LunaBear26 · 11/04/2026 10:19

Hi everyone! I'm 17+1 with DCDA twins and got a toddler who is 3 in July. Definitely a shock for us! How is everyone feeling? I'm feeling massive already 😂

quietblossom · 11/04/2026 13:09

So nice to meet people on the same journey.
I am so exhausted !
where are you guys located ? I am in North London.

OP posts:
claireob81 · 11/04/2026 13:22

The tiredness is the main thing and the nausea hasn’t been too bad. Been pretty lucky so far - apart from the exhaustion! I’m in South Manchester xx

LunaBear26 · 11/04/2026 13:33

I'm in Gloucestershire. The tiredness was a killer, literally tired to the bone! Never felt anything like it, even when my son woke every 45 minutes during the night! Thankfully, the extreme tiredness seems to have got better now. Fingers crossed you guys feel better soon!

WeaselPax · 11/04/2026 15:19

I’ve had much worse nausea than with my first pregnancy, but at least the tiredness hasn’t been too bad so far.

WishfulThinking90 · 12/04/2026 22:33

Congratulations fellow twin mums! I found out at my 12 week scan last week that we are expecting identical twins, it was a shock but we’re very excited about it! I’ve definitely had a lot stronger symptoms than when I was expecting my son, I’ve almost been falling asleep at work in the afternoons and I’ve been so nauseous all the time. My bump is so big for just 13 weeks as well!
Hope all of your pregnancy’s go really well!

AlwaysPurple · 13/04/2026 08:46

Hi everyone. I'm 7 weeks so still early days, found out last week as I had to have an early scan. Not IVF. Still pretty shocked. Don't know which sort yet. Tiredness and nausea have been a bit worse than first pregnancy, but not awful yet.... trying to not worry about what could go wrong still at this early stage, but also not get carried away and excited. We haven't told anyone yet that we're even pregnant.

quietblossom · 14/04/2026 06:58

Congratulations but yes always bit of a shock. I am 11 weeks now and took a while for it to sink in. Is it your first ?

Congrats ! My tiredness and nausea also so much worse - I hope it improves ! How old is your first ?

Morning! Congratulations! That’s how I feel too - a bit wary of getting too excited / worried so am a bit indifferent in the middle.

I thought my nausea had calmed down (I’m 10 weeks now) but it came back with a bang yesterday 😂

AlwaysPurple · 14/04/2026 16:31

Yes I'm kind of trying to not think about it too much. The tiredness and nausea have increased over the last couple of days - I fell asleep when I finished work yesterday. Thankfully my line manager is happy for me to work from home for the foreseeable future - I told her I'm pregnant but not the twins part! I'm struggling to eat much, all I could eat at lunchtime was crisps and melon! Definitely just wanting bland food.

SerenitySeeker4 · 14/04/2026 16:39

Congratulations! @quietblossom
My nausea was really bad in the first trimester, now it's getting better.

AlwaysPurple · 16/04/2026 13:42

When did you start to show? I'm a bit worried I'm going to start showing before our 12 week scan, especially as hospital seems a bit behind on scans at the moment so may be 13 or 14 weeks. Don't want to lie to people if they ask but also don't necessarily want to tell them too much before scan. Also did anyone take extra folic acid if you found out it was twins around 6/7 weeks? My GP is unsure and I can't get hold of midwife.

I’ve already had to abandon some of my normal trousers by 8 weeks 😭
I think it’s going to be obvious a lot sooner than with my first pregnancy!

LunaBear26 · 16/04/2026 17:47

@AlwaysPurple At 12 weeks, I was about the same size as I was at 19 weeks with my first 😂🙈
I'm on extra folic acid, midwife said that was usual for twins but my GP wouldn't give it to me as he wasn't sure! I just waited until my first consultant appointment and she did it for me then. I only started the extra folic acid at about 15 weeks so I wouldn't worry too much 🙂

I was told at my booking appointment to take folic acid as well as the folic acid that’s in the pregnancy vitamin.

I’m 11 weeks on Monday and the symptoms seem to have died down. The problem now is that I don’t feel very pregnant so need to watch myself on that one!

twoontheway · 16/04/2026 21:48

Hello! Thanks for starting this thread! Congrats to you all fellow twin mums. I'm 17+5 and also just recovering from the shock haha. They are fraternal.

I remember feeling soooo tired in first trimester @quietblossombut much better now. Hope it doesn't last too much longer for you and anyone else experiencing that.

I am south London.

twoontheway · 16/04/2026 21:53

@LunaBear26@claireob81thats very interesting about taking more folic acid - i can't seem to find much conclusive online about this and i wanted to ask at my 16 week appointment but my midwife hadn't been told it was twins so she kept telling me I'd have to ask the consultant when I eventually see her... But really would like to know.

I've started taking Wild Nutrition and feeling quite good- may be a coincidence though.

Now wondering whether I should just take more folic acid. I have heard possible links of too much folic acid to tongue tie but that seems fairly remediable anyway? And think that that doesn't apply to folate which is in my supplement rather than folic acid. Don't know, still learning about all this. So much to learn!

I think there is some evidence about a link to tongue tie, but my first had quite a bad tongue tie and I only took the regular amount of folic acid so it can happened either way. I'm just determined to get these babies checked the second there seems to be an issue as last time no one believed/listened to me and my son's tongue tie didn't get cut until 12 weeks!

That’s so interesting re folic acid - I was not told this by my midwife.
are you taking IVF meds still ? I am on aspirin, blood thinners and still taking the progesterone pessaries
