Expecting twins in 2026?

quietblossom · 10/04/2026 17:49

I just wanted to connect with other mums expecting twins.
I am currently 10+5, IVF pregnancy after single embryo transfer (so identical twins), believed to be DCDA but tbc.
It was a bit of a shock at first (logistics, finance, also the more difficult pregnancy) so would love to hear about other people’s experience.

Is anyone else twin news mean ofher big life changes (house move, new car etc)? I have a 7 year old but quite scared of the double nursery fees or nanny fees when I return to work too.

Yes!! We bought our house with the idea that my son would share with their future sibling, but not necessarily 2! No idea what we're going to do about the sleeping situation at all! And had to get a new car too which was also very unexpected. I'm thankful to have a very supportive family (I'm a twin so I think they understand the shock lol) but it's still all a bit daunting, isn't it?!

1st time grandmother.... found out yesterday that they are expecting identical twins currently 13+5 . So excited still in a little bit of shock! My daughter has been very sick and completely exhausted for the last 6 weeks or so. Twice visited hospital and been put on a drip. Babies share a placenta so they will be having multiple scans and appointments to monitor babies

That’s so interesting re folic acid - I was not told this by my midwife.
are you taking IVF meds still ? I am on aspirin, blood thinners and still taking the progesterone pessaries

I’m not sure if would be classed as extra folic acid as not sure how much is in the Pregnacare.

yep still on the IVF meds. Pessaries, HRT patches and progesterone injections.

I called the hospital yesterday as all my symptoms appear to have stopped so don’t feel very pregnant but maybe I’m just used to it! They offered me a scan which I am going to tomorrow so that’s good

I’m thinking new car as I have a Mini Cooper but was thinking that I might give it a go before I buy a new one as I love that car so much!

Nursery fees - we should get 30 hours free so was thinking of using family for the rest and potentially going back to work four days a week. I’m trying not to get ahead of myself though but it’s so hard not to!

Good luck for the scan. If it can be reassuring, I am 11 weeks and my symptoms are finally easing too. I didn’t scream why removing my bra yesterday which was a win ;)

You’re a twin ! So you know all about the special bond💙 (also you can answer yes to the question everybody asks ‘are there twins in the families 😂).

🤣 'are there twins in your family?' is actually a really difficult question because I'm an IVF twin! So I say we're not 'natural twins' haha! My parents were shocked the IVF worked so surprised to have twins but no family history at all. So I have to decide what to say based on who's asking and whether I want to give my life story haha! My sister (twin) reckons I should just 'give the people what they want and say yes' lol

Haha love this. I keep saying to people ‘yes IVF but single embryo’ as if I owe them an explanation. I should just say ‘Yep IVF and yes I’ll have my hands full’ lol

I’m only 6.5 weeks, had a scan today and saw two heartbeats: identical twins. IVF. Still so early, so one day at a time. A little overwhelmed by the prospect! From 0 to 2.

Congrats and welcome! I also had IVF and identical twins after a single embryo transfer - a bit of a shock. It takes a while to sink in and overcome the waves of logistical panic. How are you feeling physically? I think after IVF you already feel quite exhausted after so many hormones and the rollercoaster so it’s hard to feel ‘excited’ like others might.
It’s funny some people tell me it’s better to ‘start with twins’ but I understand how overwhelming it would be, all of the stuff, books etc is written for singletons.
(I have a 7 year old, and I think the positive is that I am trying to remember I once managed to keep a baby - and myself - alive, but the negative is that I worry about all the things I was able to do with him that I won’t do with two).

I am absolutely shattered today. I've not been out all week (except to the postbox and threw up in the drain), and then went to the theatre last night and church this morning leading creche. Maybe it's too much! Had a nap and still zonked. Thankfully DH has been a star. He is a SAHD and so has just upped his time with DD by having her pretty much all the time - he has endless energy and patience! We were chatting to some friends earlier who had their 12 week scan this week and they said "yes it's just 1 thankfully, not twins". We struggled to keep a straight face.

Sequins23 · 19/04/2026 18:46

Hello! I’m expecting DCDA twin girls! 4th embryo transfer and we transferred 2, so we are assuming non identical! I’m just over 32 weeks now and from Dorset!

Congratulations, that's exciting. Not long to go now? Think most of us in this thread are still quite early on. How are you feeling in the later stages?

Sorry your feeling crap still! Fingers crossed it gets better soon!! Do you friends know about your twins yet? (Bit of a mean comment if they do haha!)

Physically I feel mildly hungover… and I look forward to going to sleep. Would be nice to have some energy again. Going to plan a little beach holiday.

It’s a big shift in expectation. I feel that. Though I didn’t really know what to expect really either way. You must know all sorts of useful things that will help.

Have you started to tell people? I feel I’m living with such a big secret, especially at work.

Haha no they don't even know we're pregnant. Feel very much in that phase of not wanting to say much to people because it's still early. But then also feeling a need to justify my tiredness and persistent not feeling well. I guess people suspect pregnancy but don't say anything, which is fine. We have a 2 year old so it's not a massive surprise we're expecting again. It's just the twins element which is the surprise!!

AlwaysPurple · 20/04/2026 09:51

There is no history of twins on either side of family, and not IVF, so definitely feels out of the blue. We will need to change our car but we would have done anyway with a second child as we have small car and have to load the backseat up with luggage when going away at the moment. But might change what car we buy as we will need 3 car seats. 3 kids under 3, oh man! 😆 DH is SAHD, so I think we will aim to continue with that for all of my fully paid mat leave. After that, who knows?!

Looking for a car that can have 3 car seats is a bit of a nightmare! Thankfully, by brother loves researching stuff like that so he was straight on it haha! We've just bought a Peugeot 5008 which can fit 3 car seats across the second row, leaving a big boot space in the back (which the third row of seats down).

I felt a lot better once I told people about the pregnancy because I thought it validated my tiredness, time off work and and general not-put-togetherness 😂 how far along are you now?

We are considering an e-Berlingo at the moment.... can take 3 seats across the back and leave the boot clear. We want electric which further limits our options!

Only 8 weeks, so still early days.

WeaselPax · 01/05/2026 19:47

Had a second private scan today at nearly 11wks and it confirmed they are MCDA. Bit worrying but also exciting that they’re identical! Also did bloods for NIPT so will find out the sex next week.

Is anything else experiencing pain in their pubic bone (mine is slightly to the right of centre on the bone) - its like a light bruise feeling that gets worse when I've even standing up for a while.

I've also felt pain and discomfort every time I've tried to do yoga. Anyone else?

I'm 20+4

Hope all is well for you twin mums!
