Ok we have talked to the end of the topic so here is a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 14/07/2008 15:19

mrsboogie I hear ya. None of mine slept through the night until they were 3 (and even then it was only when they were in our bed).

Now you can't winkle them out of their pits before midday...at least

Funny how things turn out isn't it?

jeanjeannie · 14/07/2008 20:06

Oh johnworf the memory is such a selective tool! Add to the teething and nappy rash the simply gross things they get up to... For example...today, I found Iris sitting on the floor happily eating something....(those of you who are squeamish hide now)...and it was a sticky fur ball the cat had chucked up Oh God I freaked!

mrsboogie are you orf to see the queen? Enjoy

Fed up...I've got a nasty infection (of the girlie kind) and need anti-b which will apparently make my milk taste bitter... Fingers crossed I get through the course without too many breast feeding traumas

johnworf · 14/07/2008 21:26

lol....did Iris wrestle the cat to the floor for it?! lol

Oh dear jeanjeannie sad news on the lady garden front, especially for LO. I don't suppose spreading something sweet e.g. hunny on your boobs would help? (not recommended when family are visiting or the window cleaner is due).

Just waiting for hospital to ring; looks like Princess Katherine is on the move again to a more local hospital. Could be tonight as beds are tres short where she is now so they're kicking her out (for her mums pain in the bum behaviour!). Hurrah

FloriaTosca · 14/07/2008 21:52

JW..the champers is on ice..just let me know when to pop the cork!

JJ ooohh sympathy...I had the same problem shortly after the birth of ds..I ate lots of sweet things like strawberries, peaches and pinapples and Ds didnt appear to notice the flavour change (or was perhaps too hungry to care)Hope things improve fast and with no ill effects.

mrsboogie · 14/07/2008 23:45

eeeeeeuwwww yuk yuk yuk jeanjeanie - that's a good one for saving for future embarrassment of your daughter !!

probably do her no harm though and yet we are all supposed to blitz everything in sight with antibacterial sprays to stop our kids from contracting bugs and diseases...

I don't s'pose I will see the queen no, but I might see Dwain Chambers as I will be in the same place on Weds. Or maybe Max Mosley - if that is still going on.

I did see the Queen once - she drove past me on the Harrow road - she wasn't driving herself but being driven you understand.

MaxiMum1 · 15/07/2008 02:46

Hi folks - so relieved to find this board. Found out I am pregnant today at nearly 43.

NO idea how many weeks as I just don't take notice. I have a 13 year old son who was a fertility baby; not used contraception since, so this is a major shock! That serves me right for losing so much weight!

Already done 2 tests as couldn't believe my eyes. As you can see from the time of this post, not sleeping tonight as I can't stop thinking! Not even sure where I go from here, I guess the GP at some point this week.

So good to know I'm not the only one

pwcbird · 15/07/2008 08:05

Welcome maximum1 and congratulations! We are all very friendly here and also supportive - it's a great thread. What a shock eh, I bet your mind is racing ahead. Keep writing...

mrsboogie... if you're going to see Max Mosely don't forget to pack your leather cat suit and whip

jeanjeannie poor you with infection and on the toddler eating front - not as bad as yours - but DS threw a minor tantrum yesterday as he couldn't eat his lunch off the ground in garden (I had thought it would be nice to eat outside but when he dropped his sandwiches and then only wanted to eat the ones on the ground and not the ones left on the plate it all became rather too much!).

JW that Katherine is a star. She'll be back at your house keeping you up all night in no time!

jeanjeannie · 15/07/2008 08:30

Oooo mrsboogie you are where the men wear wigs and naughty people get 'sent down'. I used to go there as a student when bored during the summer holidays...well, it was free entertainment. I actually sat through the Jeffry Archer trial....gosh it was a cliff hanger! Old Bailey is better for blood and gore Well you be good and do your business and come back in one piece!Oh shopping - you can go shopping! I'm only 26 miles away but with two under two in tow I might as well try to get to Australia!

Maximum1 HELLO and CONGRATS!! Yes, tis true us 'old and glamorous' birds do get up the duff....well, we will keep on enjoying ourselves with our other halves...without contraception Enjoy the time of excitment as the news kicks in....and then wait for the morning sickness...tee hee...only joking! x

johnworf hope the local hospital find a place... Katherine's getting nearer home...Oooooo xxx

FloriaTosca · 15/07/2008 09:13

Maximum1 Congratulations! What fantastic news! Congratulations on losing weight too, it should make the next (however many) monthsthat much easier...43 is a great age to be having a baby (well I would say that, I was 43 when I had my Ds 9mths ago) The "girls" on here are a great bunch, all young at heart and very understanding and supportive. Welcome!

JohnWorf Is she nearer home yet? (desperate to crack open the champers...not done that at 9am since my 40th birthday!..and that was on honeymoon too!)

johnworf · 15/07/2008 10:05

Hey maximum1 well done on your fantastic news! Despite popular thinking, us old gals can give the young 'uns a run for their money anytime. Ask anyone on this thread Hang on in there through the morning sickness and the tiredness - oh we all remember it don't we girls? - and look forward to the later weeks when your tum gets bigger and LO is playing football with your liver

Katherine will be much nearer to home when she is transferred. Just a quick whizz up the motorway - takes about 15 minutes.

Basically it's all a bit up in the air when she's to go. They're waiting on a woman to give birth who needs the intensive care bed, then all the babies get shuffled around and some will go into Katherine's room. As she is the most well out of all of them (never thought I'd hear THOSE words!!! OH JOY!) she's out of the door first.

Tis indeed a momentous occasion and I hope all you ladies will have a perfect excuse (apart from the expectant ones natch), to crack out some fizz and chink chink Special K on her way

More good news; saw GP this morning and I no longer am classed as hypertensive. Seems my pregnancy shooed it away. Off to the hospital this afternoon for my postnatal and visit the diabetes centre...so, if they shoo me off too I'll be doubly pleased that I'm fit and healthy.

FloriaTosca · 15/07/2008 10:18

JW Great news indeed..as I said the bottle is chilled the glasses are ready. Good news about the BP too hope the post natal goes just as well...bet your Dh hopes eveything is in fine fettle too.

pwcbird · 15/07/2008 12:00

Well jw this is momentous indeed. Firstly the wonderful news of Katherine's move and secondly the all clear for you. If you're pronounced fit and healthy from all sides I think you should crack open the bubbly and help yourself to an enormous piece of choccy cake with lashings of cream after all that fairy dust you had to eat when preggers
As I am up the duff I shall open a bottle of pink lemonade to celebrate and as I have not been diagnosed with GD (test on 8th Sept)I shall also have a chocolate muffin to celebrate. Hurrah!

maximum1 as johnworf says how are you feeling? Any sickness/tiredness? I'm 20 weeks now and thankfully all that is gone. I'd get down to that gp asap as you're not sure of your dates.

jeanjeannie · 15/07/2008 13:06

Awwww bugger - just been to pick up my antibiotics and it's the one where you really, must not, absolutely never ever....drink! WHAH So johnworf I'll have to drink the pink lemonade with pwcbird. And we'll toast Katherine AND you...for being hypertensive free and all-round good (and fit) bird!!

Just had my first prawn sandwich since giving birth - keep forgetting that I can eat stuff now! And horror of horrors...I'd gone off them. I usually love the pink, little fat-bodied creatures...yum yum...but no - they tasted like snot

I have that slight madness you you get when you're so tired you're almost hyper-active. Teething toddler and hungry baby do not mix. Poor DP was shattered...at least he's not got to operate the cement mixer today!

Kaz1967 · 15/07/2008 16:03

pwcbird yep that is me johnworf's profile

Ventured into town this morning wit friend did bit of essential shopping then go to hospital to be weighed and Kez has put on weight again so we have been discharged and can start to relax now shattered and need a kip before picking up friends daughter from after school club as Sue is on a late today and her Dad is working late too.

Kaz1967 · 15/07/2008 16:07

MaxiMum1 welcome I did something similar after not conceiving while trying for years I gave up when I hit 40 thinking after 16 years it was just not going to happen and though my little bundle was the menopause for nearly 8 weeks very surprised I was pregnant still can hardly believe it at times even now when I am holding her

OP posts:
pwcbird · 15/07/2008 16:14

Welcome home Kaz1967 and little Keziah. At last away from hospital and in your own bed - bliss I'm sure! Glad all is well and isn't it amazing when you have your new baby in your arms. I had just turned 39 when I had DS and I couldn't believe I was a mummy at last and actually it took me ages and ages to get used to being called it and saying to DS 'mummy's here' or whatever. They are little miracles to be sure

johnworf · 15/07/2008 17:33

hehe kaz1967 welcome to the wonderful world of motherhood ! Good to see that little Kez is keeping you on (and off) your toes.

Eww, I think I've just gone off prawns now that jeanjeannie says they taste of snot Ah well, I'll add it to green pesto which looks like Katherine's poo. Two things to cross of my things I used to like list.

Postnatal uneventful. Been written off the books but had words of warning from endocrin guy before I went. Basically need to shift some weight...well hello! 8 years in med school served HIM well. Stating the bleeding obvious or what....sorry, I'm griping now. I must endeavour to eat better (good job you can't see the popcorn I'm shovelling into my mouth at the mo).

Was funny today sat in the antenatal clinic waiting to see doctors. All big tums and technically, I should have one still (well, I have, but it's fat). Felt really strange

hedgepig · 15/07/2008 19:54

Hi JW I'm not surprised it felt strange you have been through a lot in the last few months . But it is looking like Super K is getting closer to home - I am so excited!

Hi MaxiMum1 glad to see you on board the good ship "Fab 40+ mums". Hope it goes well with the doctors and try stating Folic acid ASAP it real makes a difference to the occurance neural tube defects when taken in the 1st 3 months.

I had a nice weekend at my brothers wedding. Although the bed in the hotel was very uncomfortable. It was a 4 star hotel I expect a decent bed when I'm paying a fortune. Of course we didn't complain, I am really hopeless at that.

Kaz the pictures of Kezia are lovely she is so cute.

johnworf · 15/07/2008 22:05

That's a good tip re the folic acid hedgepig I started mine as soon as I found out - really should have taken it sooner, like beforehand, but didn't think I'd get pregnant! Doh! You can get it free from your doctor now you're officially pregnant.

I hear you on the uncomfortable bed scenario. I think it's an age problem...I'm so fussy about other beds. In fact I'd go as far to say I only get a good nights sleep in my own lovely bed and in my own bedroom. I'm like the princess and the pea otherwise

And I nearly came to blows over a parking space the other day. Won't bore you with the details but I did give the lady who nabbed it a large piece of my mind. I'm finding that I'm a grumpy old woman now and I always complain if the need arises. I think I get some enjoyment out of it actually........bleugh!

johnworf · 15/07/2008 22:13

Oh yeah, new pic on profile from tonight having a cuddle.

Reminds me, must get hair appointment for colouring this week

MaxiMum1 · 16/07/2008 00:23

Hi all - thanks for all the supportive messages. Went to the GP today and she nearly fell off her chair laughing(in a supportive manner I hasten to add). When she asked dates and I said the only time I could be definite about LMP was April, but I am sure it couldn't be that long, she then asked about any idea on possible conception dates and I said it must have been immaculate according to OH! Anyway BP was good, and from symptoms could be anything from 8 - 14 weeks(OMG I was so mortified). So she was straight on the phone to the hospital and the conversation went along the lines of...
I need an urgent scan for this patient.....no; next month is too late......well she is late booking......She is a senior NHS manger if that helps..........no next week is too late........she could be 14 weeks......yes Friday would be good......BTW she is 43 next month.........oh great yes tomorrow would be fantastic!!!!!

Will let you all know how it goes,by the way thanks for the info but had started folic acid plus last night as been on incredibly limited diet for 4 moonths and very concerned re my nutritional status! I have been getting morning sickness but have been on Champix to stop smoking, very tired; but started new job 3 weeks ago, could explain it all really until I could no longer get into my bras....not a lot to explain that one away.

Be good one and all and thanks again for all your messages x

johnworf · 16/07/2008 07:14

Blimey MaxiMum1 sounds like you're advancing on the pregnancy front with gusto! I wish I'd not known I was pregnant in my first trimester and then it might not have seemed so bad Perhaps not. At least at this rate you won't suffer weeks of anguish fretting over your scan appointment like most of us on here did

I'm sure your diet has been fine. As explained to me in succinct yet childish terms; the baby is a parasite and it'll suck all the goodness out of you and you'll get what is left. So there you go, you get the scraps and like it! LO will be perfectly fine I'm sure.

Btw, try not to get hung up on your age. We're all over 40 on here and all come across mixed reactions especially from health care professionals. Just try to either ignore it or take it with a large pinch of salt. As long as you are feeling good and baby is developing as it should there is no worry. Oh and another tip, you'll get a lot of stuff about genetics thrown at you, especially statistics regarding Downs etc. Just remember the choice for testing is yours and your partners and no one elses.

If you would like advice from any of us ladies on here then you only have to ask. You're probably not going through anything we haven't already experienced or worried over

Jackie77 · 16/07/2008 11:40

hello all

I am very pleased to tell you that our DS arrived by csection as expected on 7th July. He is a little star (of course!) and i am feeling better than i expected at this stage. The section itself was a fab experience as the team in the theatre were great fun and there were lots of laughs to go along with my hormonal tears of happiness. It took some help to get him breathing but otherwise all went well. So glad to be home though - one piece of advice i ignored was to get a private room. I wish i had cos the noise of other babies crying when yours is asleep at 4am is the worst form of torture!

He weighed in at 7lbs 2ozs and is called Riley.

Hope all you ladies are getting on ok - no time to read back to catch up, so hope all going well for everybody. did see MaxiMum's post - you go girl and don"t worry about your age - i hit 49 just before Riley arrived!

hedgepig · 16/07/2008 12:07

Many congratulations Jackie that is super news. I had a cs with my 1st son and we were in 10 days so I know aht you mean about the lack of sleep.
*Maximum8 I second what Jw said about testing. make you own decisons and don't be bullied into things, we have all been there and made our own (different) decisions so I you need any info you are in the right place. PS what time do you go to sleep! or are you in a different time zone?
JW - any news on the Katherine move?I'm a bit stressed today about my LOs movements. He/she is moving but only lightly I'm sure its the position he/she is in but my emotional side is over ruling my logical side at the moment ekkk.

jeanjeannie · 16/07/2008 14:35

HUGE congrats jackie77 and welcome Riley...I LOVE that name. Glad to hear you're doing well...remember to rest up - don't go over-doing it. Let everyone pamper you while you look after the gorgeous little man! And yes - I sympathise with the screaming babies....it's never ending...I'd be bonkers if i was a midwife listening to that all night!

maximum1 wow...you could be quite a way into the first trimester then! Well, do keep us posted on the scan...and I'm pmsl at how you got it booked in so quickly...you're obviously not to be triffeld with

johnworf don't mention hair...I'm going grey too fast for my liking. Dying red hair is so dodgy....could all go very Pete Tong and end up looking like Cilla Black...and NO, that wouldn't be a 'lorra, lorra laughs'

How come Iris is speaking what seems to be Russian? I'm sure I'm meant to understand her but I think her Eastern European ancestry has lept out and attacked her vocal chords...! Oh if only I understood her!
