Ok we have talked to the end of the topic so here is a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jeanjeannie · 20/08/2008 22:07

Well, if I can try and reassure you about how hardy placenta can be. With Iris, mine literally disintigrated....I kid you not (my DP actually saw it during the C-sec and there was nothing there - apparently like mashed jelly ) AND there was bugger all water as I'd been losing that since week 26! Seriously, I think it's pretty strong stuff.

I know it's pointless to say 'don't worry' cos yer going too! But it's getting sorted and that's for the best. Plus, if the MW saw nothing in the wee then you more than likely have caught it at the beginning

johnworf · 20/08/2008 22:14

mrsboogie fear not. I had the dreaded GD from week 16 as my urine sample was actually made up of nothing more than 3 melted mars bars AND I scored a glucose +++ (keep those plusses coming I say!). So, GTT just to confirm the bleeding obvious said I was indeed a diabetic for the season.

Don't get yourself in a big tizz as all is ok. Your placenta is just hoovering up all your insulin, that's all but your baby will be fine - although maybe a bit large, but that's no big deal. At worse you'll end up having insulin to get your sugars under control and they'll probably give you a blood meter so you'll have to log your sugars to make sure you're not peaking and troughing. It will explain why you've been feeling sick though (it was you wasn't it that was feeling icky?).

In the grand scheme of things, 6.7 is very borderline. Mine was hitting over 11 (that was sometimes when my insulin needed to be cranked up). And I'd not really got going - it's usually around 28 weeks when it shows itself. So taking all that into account, I'd say yours is only mild and you'll probably be given advice regarding diet (no more chocolate I'm afraid. In fact say goodbye to nice things to eat for a few weeks!)

You'll be fine. Stop worrying

I'm STILL borderline diabetic and I'm to attend diabetic clinic at GPs. I know I'm going to get it, it's just a question of when. They'll pre-warn you that this can happen when you see diabetes midwife.

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 22:15

thanks jeanjeanie - I will take your reassurances gratefully -

johnworf · 20/08/2008 22:16

X post JJ

Was just going to add, they 'might' deliver you early depending on size of LO. You'll probably get a sizing scan to confirm his/her weight/size and if they're on the big-ish size then they 'may' offer to deliver you a week or so early depending on sizes.

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 22:25

thanks jw - I knew you had it but crikey it didn't really occur to me how early it was. They made it sound quite serious at the hospital today plus I am (maybe) overreacting because of all those times when the LO went quiet for days on end - wondering now whether the placenta wasn't working properly.

I am so grateful for the reassurance - it is helping me not to panic

just glad the clinic is tomorrow and they had a space for me...

oh good to hear Katherine is all clear too

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 22:27

yep - they said 38 weeks if there is a problem - I wouldn't mind - rather him out than in so he can be looked after...

johnworf · 20/08/2008 22:34

mrsboogie they'll deliver him if they think he's going to be a whopper! At 38 weeks or even 37 he'll be more than fine and not even classed as premature. They'll just want to check on his blood sugars when he's born but I was told at my hospital that can be done on the ward. Oh and breast feeding really helps babies of GD mothers but don't worry if you're not BF (it's not compulsory).

You're just worried and we've all been worried over something or other when we're preggers. I was rather shocked when I found out so early on but if you have any questions, write them down before you go and ask away. That's what I did and it really helped. It's easy to forget once you get in there. Also, I had the phone number for my diabetes midwife and she was fine about me ringing if I thought of a worry/questions. It's your body and your baby and you have every right to know more about things that are concerning you at the moment.

You go girl

jeanjeannie d'ya think that mrsboogie is just trying to queue jump the delivery list or what???

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 22:53

moi? never!!

;-)

johnworf · 21/08/2008 07:28

Good luck for today mrsboogie Hope all is well with the sugah situation. (remember to step away from the chocolate hobnobs on your return)

Let us know how you fare.

jeanjeannie · 21/08/2008 12:51

Yeah..."Queue jumper!" MrsBoogie Good luck today xx

Ah johnworf I thought you were the uncrowned Queen of GDD...didn't know it still lingered afterwards though....pah That's rubbish.

Gawd, I slept in big time today - must have been the boat ride...."all that fresh air" as my mother would say

Hope all is well over in HK mrsjupiter....HELLO if you can hear us Do let us know how you're all doing if you get chance.

Kaz67....is all OK with you? Now, was it Bristol or Parents....or both?...I forget!

A very uneventful day today. Off to Eden Shopping Centre this afternoon and I'm currently defrosting pork bellies. Hope everyone else is having a more exciting day.

johnworf · 21/08/2008 14:11

jeanjeannie are pork bellies a code word for something nice? Like cold children thawing by the fire?

Yes, where are you mrsjupiter? We need an update on LO and yourself, naturally Hoping all is well with the two of you.

Is it me or is there an echo (echo...echo...echo) on this thread at the moment? Where has everyone gone? Was it something I said? Don't tell me you're all on holiday and having a good time and I'm still stuck here

Katherine seems to have got into a rut on this 2 hours on CPAP at midnight and we just can't get her off it for love nor money. I'm going to have a quiet word in her shell like this evening and lay down the law. We're supposed to be breaking free in 3 weeks and we can't do it if she's still on that darned air thingy.

Anyway, she seems to be enjoying the Gaviscon cocktails now she's used to them

So Jeanjeannie what happens on the Eden shopping experience? Does is have anything to do with the Eden project?? I think I might be on the wrong tack here

mrsboogie give us an update, dear

mrsboogie · 21/08/2008 15:21

hello all!!

phew - not long home - long old morning (nicely started off with another no- warning first-thing bout of throwing up. )

Anyhoo - hospital went ok - met all the usual line up of people. The consultant says he thinks I am borderline because my result was 8 point something. He reckons that if it gets no worse I will escape without having to use insulin.

The diabetic nurse said similarly that she thought I had been caught in the act of flipping from normal to diabetic so not to stress about it too much. She gave me a blood sugar monitor and said to check sugar four times a day before eating. I said the consultant had told me that i needed to keep it below 7.8 one hour after eating but she said never mind about after eating for the moment.

then i wnet along and had a trace of baby's heart and movements which they said was fine - so that was good.

and good news also in that I am under the hospital form now on and don't need to see my normal midwife again. (yay)

Sounds perverse but I actually feel a bit happier now because I am going to be more closely monitored than I would otherwise have been.

and everyone was very nice to me and helpful.

thanks for reassuring me last nightJJ and JW - I was in a state and you helped ;)

johnworf · 21/08/2008 16:50

No probs mrsboogie Glad that all went well and you and LO are doing fine You'll be kept a close eye on from now on until you deliver so take comfort that all is not lost

jeanjeannie · 21/08/2008 21:31

"Are pork bellies code for something nice?"......WHAH ha ha ha...pmsl Nah chuck...it's code for ....pork bellies!!!!!
They weren't that nice - slow cooked them but lacked something in the taste department - think it was flavour

mrsboogie so pleased that it's worked out OK..and that you're getting constant monitoring, there is something of a comfort about that. I know I found it reassuring with Iris...made me less panicky.

Yes, it IS rather echoey in here....you know what...I shall re-start the thread tomorrow....with a snappy new title. How's about....Fab 40 somethings: Mums, Mums to be or TTC...ALL Welcome! Get new blood and encourage back those stragglers Come on girls...you know who you are....We NEED you!!!

Hate to disappoint but our Eden is not a veritable array of stupendous hot-housed plants but our small but perfectly formed shopping centre. I got Iris a cardi and for le maison a le Cruset dish....OOoooo...20% off

Do you want me to have a word with Katherine about quiting her CPAP habit johnworf? You know how kids are - love to ignore their parents. Give us a shout and I'll give her a call!!

jeanjeannie · 21/08/2008 21:33

PS. I've just put up 3 new pics on profile...Verity looks such a little podge! Yer gonna wanna pinch those cheeks !!

johnworf · 22/08/2008 08:28

O O Oh! Those children look good enough to eat Although Verity looks very serious in the top one - as though she's warning her mother NOT to take that final pic Lovely cardi. Gets my approval for total girliness Can't believe how much Verity has grown. She's a veritable chubster now.

I'm officially barred from buying any more clothes for Katherine as her drawers are already fit to burst. I've just to buy a couple more wrapps and fleece liners then I'm done ...hopefully!

This CPAP malarky is getting out of hand. I've just rung the hospital and they said they put her on it at midnight a) her gas was good and b) for 4 hours! When I questioned this with a big fat WHY? They told me that the hospital staff got a bit confused as to what to do so erred on the cautious side. F**king hell. I'm going to have to kick off again this morning, I just know it

Looking forward to the new thread, dear. It's just like spring cleaning only at the end of summer. I think I'm going to have to nudge mrsboogie and tell her that cleaning is the new black but might delay until she's had the LO

rosebury · 22/08/2008 14:00

Afternoon ladies sorry not posted for ages time is passing by so quickly I am 34wks now all is well but often very tired and frustrated because I cannot do the things I would like to even putting the washing into the dryer is exhausting.

I have not caught up on all the news it would be impossible but pleased to see the lo are doing well.

hope to be back again soon.

jeanjeannie · 22/08/2008 14:12
