Ok we have talked to the end of the topic so here is a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 18/08/2008 12:32

mrsboogie yep I read about her. Beggars belief IMHO.

And craptops are so unpredictable. They must be all male. Just get going when they've had their fill.

Well, this morning started badly I'm afraid. I rang to see how Katherine had been overnight and was greeted by some not so good news that her night had been bad and eventful.

So, without further ado, I shoved on clothes and raced to hospital to find her there off milk, on cpap, on IV fluids AND 2 lots of antibiotics including vancomycin. To understate the situation, I kicked off royally. Registrar appeared and I gave her a flea in her ear and the consultant then graced us and I told her what I thought. It's totally over the top for what amounts to ....wait for it.........reflux. Consultant has already stopped the vancomycin (why wouldn't she?) and I know that I'm the talk of the unit this morning - like that bothers me. The junior doctor who ordered all of this coupled with the nurse that has never looked after her before last night are up for chats with their bosses at some point today I think.

The consultant I spoke to this morning has told me that no decisions on Katherine's treatment will be acted on unless they get the say so from her first. Says it all really doesn't it?

I'm off to K's appointment now for her ECG but will update you all later with further updates. Apologies in advance for my Monday morning moan but just had to vent

Hope you're all doing good today ladies esp you mrsboogie now you're a lady that lunches

JW xx

jeanjeannie · 18/08/2008 13:29

Bloody Hll johnworf* that's horrible What a fright - and all for reflux Oh dear - seems over-zealous registrars have been handed way too much power - good job you had a rant. At least the consultant is now totally at the forefront of her care.......thank God.

Let us know how the ECG goes today

pwcbird love it when you pop in to say Hi Sounds like you're doing brilliantly - bad days are so totally allowed, but you know that, you wouldn't be human otherwise. And, if you do want to rant/wail/cry/mither (delete as appropriate) here - then you blinkin well can and should. This thread isn't just for the happy ramblings of mad people....or is it?!!

mrsboogie I hope you've not got out of your pyjamas today.....unless it's to lunch!

Iris has HUGE comedy bump on her forehead after her Sat eve binge drink and step-falling malarky. I've been getting 'concerned looks' from folk today. Oh - that's the door....perhaps it's social services come to take me away ! x

mrsboogie · 18/08/2008 15:06

flippin 'eck jw - that really wouldn't inspire confidence at all - if there are only a few babies in the special care units why can the consultant not be in charge of all these decisions. What were the antibiotics meant to be for?

jeanjeanie - lol at Iris' eventful weekend
tis a bit paranoia inducing when they have a visible physical injury though. I remember once my son came off worse in an encounter with his cousin and a coffee table - I had to walk around with a 2yr old with a black eye for a week and was convinced that social services would pounce at any second.

in other not totally unexpected news I am bing totally slatternly and lazy today... bliss..

johnworf · 18/08/2008 18:20

By 'eck! Do I need to send 2 motorcycle helmets by courier to your poor LO's? Black eyes and lumpy bonces! It's just another phase..along with scraped knees/elbows and nits and mebbe impetigo if you're unlucky

Well I'm back and Katherine did well. Her PDA is minute and almost not really there at all (2mm down from 10mm). The consultant who did her ECG was pleased with her progress and wants to see us in 5 weeks time just to dots the I's and cross the T's.

mrsboogie the antibiotics were supposed to be for (suspected) sepsis but both myself and the consultant have concurred that this was not on either of our agendas and is why she has stopped them. In fact she told me that when they get the cultures back by Wedsnesday, she'd be surprised if she had anything growing but was continuing her on the other antibiotic (forget it's name) as it's a broad spectrum one just as a catch all.

Yep jeanjeannie too many text books read and not enough life experience coupled with a bit of power make for a bad recipe.

I wish I could start today all over again...I knew it'd be a bad un when the dog left me a present of each flavour on the kitchen floor this morning. Ah well, hopefully things can only get better

I plan to have my head deep in ebaying tonight as there's loads of bargains to be had while people are away on holiday - or so it seems.

mrsboogie are you still in jammies with fluffy mules/novelty teddy slippers, feet up watching This Morning or Golden Balls. Big box of chocolates at your side and drink of choice to hand? If not, then why not?!!!! Oh, and forgot to add you need to start reading OK or Hello (but not Heat as that's so trashy) and catch up with what is happening in the 'real' world It's how I keep my finger on the pulse. Hehe!

jeanjeannie · 18/08/2008 20:57

FABULOUS news johnworf....what a relief. I'm hoping that as I type, you are fully ensconsed in ebay retail therapy. Are there bargains to be had because of the holidays? ....Hmmm, that's worth remembering.

What JW - you don't like HEAT mag......? I love the ads for it...."we're going to London to buy Heat magazine"....!!!!

Bad dog - BAD...nasty pressies. Here, Bob (the cat) has been freely distributing her fleas......Oooo, my shins....scratched to pieces they are

SLATTERN....mrsboogie I love that word. I hope you're living up to it. Yes, in the last few weeks you've got to start piling on those pounds...gaining the weight...giving birth is hard work you know - think Olympics - you'll need your energy. I believe chocolate is the thing. As my DP says.."chocolate is a complete food".....mind you he says liver is too....and you don't want to start munching on that while watching you're day-time trash

johnworf · 19/08/2008 06:55

jeanjeannie I fully sympathise with you on the flea front. My blood must be carrying at least 3 michelin stars for flying/biting things. But this year, the Frontline has worked and shins are so far scratchy free. If it is any consolation, the flea season is nearly over now

I can't believe you managed to put chocolate and liver in the same sentence. I feel distinctly queasy now Anyway, mrsboogie can't have liver as she's still up the duff and it's off her list of things to indulge in. I'd stick with the choccy and marvel at your lucky escape mrsB!!!

It's Tuesday and new OK is out today. Can't believe my life has come to this but it is a highlight in my week. If someone had said to me 5 years ago what a treat this would be I'd have laughed in their face but alas, tis reality now. DH thinks it's hilarious but I know he sneaks a read when I go to bed - if only to look at all the lovely women in there

It's official: Gaviscon is a wonder drug and my daughter is drinking Gaviscon cocktails as we speak. So now when she has her bottle it's a de-sat free zone and none of that frothing at the mouth nonsense either Eureka!

Only 2 more weeks until back to school day and I would be lieing if I said I wasn't ticking the days off on the calendar. Not that DSS has been bad or anything but he's well and truly bored. Kids these days just aren't the same calibre as in my day - they need instant gratification whereas in my day if mum/dad said you can have it (Evil Kenevil on a motorbike, Tiny Tears, Shaker Maker or even ye olde etchasketch/Spiragraph) for Christmas - and we were still in August, then you'd look forward to getting it for months and be happy! Oh how times have changed

I blame the parents

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 11:08

oh it's definitely the fault of the parents alright jw

So - good to hear all is back on an even keel jw. And all it took was some run of the mill Gaviscon instead of a great kerfuffle tsk.

wait? what? there's a flea season? someone clearly forgot to tell our cats this as there is no seasonality with their infestations that I can tell. They have to be drenched in Frontline on a regular basis or the house would be crawling. They are a funny pair - they always have to sleep "in" something preferably any kind of bag. I came down last night and one of them had wedged himself into my handbag on the living room floor and was asleep in it. Can't be comfy that...

Yup another day of slatternising for me
tis of course piddling down here, so I am not leaving the house until I have to tomorrow for my GTT test

Someone else will have to fetch my weekly mag from the shop today- I get Grazia every week even though I hate it. I like to think that I wouldn't spend 2k on an handbag even if I could afford it so I don't know why I buy a mag that's full of "must have" thousand pound handbags and shoes.

johnworf · 19/08/2008 13:30

mrsboogie I fully agree on the expensive fashion pages that only new-money-russian-wife-of-premier-division-football-club can afford. I know when I'm reading the Sunday Times and flick through the fashion mag and realise the only thing on the page I can afford is the tights (and they're usually some foul shade of yellow or pink). Even if I had the money to dress like 6 stone 6 foot model I wouldn't buy those clothes. I mean, who swans around Sainsbury's in a haut couture frock that makes you look like a transvestite clown? OOOh look at the price tag; there isn't one. Made to order. I wonder if anyone does order it

Anyway, DH is listening to his new CD selection of cd's he treated himself today and this afternoon's pick of the pops is vagina inspector....sorry, regina spektor. They all just sound so samey and anyway, I'm sick of hearing her as she's the voice of DFS it seems.

We talked about the 'H' word today in hospital ...gathers herself due to the internal excitement Looking like due date at the latest and probably home on oxygen but ladies...I'm fit to bursting I'm so darned excited. It's within touching distance now after what seems like a very long time.

Pardee at mine. 14th September. All invited. Bring a bottle...of EBM or Cow n Gate

Yay!

P.S. mrsboogie what do you want to go outside for? There's chocolate to be eaten and Maury Povich on telly. Get back to that sofa woman!

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 13:33

oh my gawd.. been feeling a bit sick in the mornings for the past few days. Just had my first morning ever sickness throwing up session is that not a bit odd - nothing til 35 weeks then start getting sick?

really not looking forward to the GTT test tomorrow now...

johnworf · 19/08/2008 15:53

mrsboogie the GTT is a doddle. It's just a bit sickly to drink (unless you're on your own Lucosade). Quick bloods and then you're home

Hope your morning sickness subsides. Bit late for that kind of thing isn't it? You'll be weeing lots next

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 16:00

yeh it is a bit late to be starting this puking malarky. Might start a thread and see if anyone else has had it...

johnworf · 19/08/2008 18:11

LOL

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 18:19

eeek, I posted a new thread about my late onset sickness and someone came on to warn me that it might pre-eclampsia :-O

oooh and jw - forgot to say - the H word!! yay!

johnworf · 19/08/2008 21:14

mrsboogie I've had pre-eclampsia twice and I don't remember any sickness at all (I was hospitalised and induced on both of them). Although I did feel sick before I went into labour on the 3rd one

Don't panic! You've probably just eaten too much chocolate....

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 21:18

I think its cos I had eaten too little actually..

sniffs

joking aside I think I have not been eating properly in the morning cos I have not been at work but laying in bed quite late...

ipanemagirl · 19/08/2008 23:18

Hello to all the Fabulous ones on this thread.... as usual I am not really up to date and feel like a gatecrasher a bit - is it really ok to pop in like I do? ! [insecure/wanting to be liked emoticon]?
mrsboogie I've started feeling nauseous too lately, it's just when my first burst of energy of the day runs out anytime between 11 and 1 and I just want to sit down. I'm going to MW tomorrow with the usual checks so I'll ask her what it might be. I feel there's just no room inside me for anything but the baby and that's triggering a nausea response!
Re: Grazia - how can we keep abreast of La Aniston's marital/antenatal/carnal/maternal aspirations without such a magazine. I love it when all the covers contradict the Aniston's situation!
johnworf huge sympathy for what you've been going through with the medical world and good news that things are better.
Cleaned out a whole cupboard in the kitchen and threw away 4 out of date spice bottles, felt purged and calmed by this! Clearly nesting....

mrsboogie · 19/08/2008 23:45

heloo "ipanemagirl" course it is!! nice to hear from you. hmmm interesting - between 11 and 1 is when I feel sick too - when breakfast has worn off methinks...

haha four spice jars in the bin - that's my kind of spring cleaning!

ipanemagirl · 19/08/2008 23:56

Actually mrsboogie I think it might have been more than 4 but I was a leetle too ashamed to admit it!

What was nice was really washing the shelf of the lovely oily/vinegary sticky bits that really needed tackling!

My m spring cleaned a big bookcase of mine which had become a dumping ground of dh and ds and I nearly float past it now like some kind of tidyaddict! I smile at it!

Do you get indigestion too? Cold water and rennes are the only solution....... Ice cream helps me too....

johnworf · 20/08/2008 06:52

All I can say is get this weeks 'OK' for all to be explained re Aniston on/off situation (can't believe I just typed that)

Getting a good stock of various nappies now. I love the look of the Nature Babies stuffables so I bought 3. They have good reviews as well so we'll see how they perform.

Talking with the nursing staff/doctors today to see about regime for getting Katherine ready for home. Was told last night at bedtime call to hospital that she's refusing the feeding tube and only wants bottles now! Cripes. This girl is a bully without doubt and I'm getting a little concerned for myself for when she gets home

ipanemagirl well done on the cleaning out exercise. Always feels cathartic when you've finished. I'm still a tad in nesting mode but usually only when I get stressed. Maybe something to do with taking control again...I dunno. But suddenly I'm loving ironing...not sure what happened there.

jeanjeannie · 20/08/2008 09:36

johnworf....the 'H' word.....How FAB! Sounds like she'll soon be THE lady of the house. You must be cock-a-hoop. Hope that nursery is ready to rock...have you gone for a colour scheme?! Oh I bet you'll love the wraps - I really do - I reckon they're a good bit of design.

Oh mrsboogie I do smile at the way you write about your worries! Poor you - now those nasty people on other threads are making you think you've got Pre-eclampsia. Can I just say that I got horrendously queasy mid-morn till lunch and then just before dinner at about 32weeks. Apparently it's a bit like a blood sugar level drop and in my case it coincided with a blood pressure drop too. All normal I was told Now keep on taking that chocolate....regularly!!

ipanemagirl it's always spices isn't it?! You buy them for a one-hit-wonder recipe and then 4 years later you find it again wondering what the hell you used that for Well done you for nesting though. I had the urge but never the impetus...just couldn't get off my backside

Well...it's DPs birthday. We're watching Footlose - his fave film which I bought him on DVD. Then we're off to Windsor to get a boat along the Thames as Iris might like that. And then....as a special treat....he's having a Kentucky bucket. Now, I've never eaten a Kentucky before....I'm scared

Ah - the world of glossy magazines. It's not real you know My bessie mate works on Grazia - it's all smoke and mirrors you know. Most of us could pass for Jennifer Anniston once we've been hit with photoshop

Have a lovely day - hope the GTT test goes ok mrsB

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 13:41

hello all

well the GTT test didn't go ok in fact they told me I had GD before they did the bloody test. Apparently my starting blood sugar was 6.7 so that means GD. They said if it had been over 7 they wouldn't have even done the test. I am waiting for them to call me this evening with the results of the "after" blood test.

One of the nurses then sat me down and told me about GD - she said the placenta can be crap and all kinds of scary things. She wasn't trying to scare me but I am scared now because of all the movement issues I have had - I wonder if this means the baby has already been harmed.

I could cry quite easily now

Have to attend a GD clinic tomorrow morning.

johnworf · 20/08/2008 13:49

jeanjeannie whadya mean? I AM Jennifer Aniston - at least people who stop me in Sainsbury's keep on telling me that I'm her double....or was it Kathy Burke? Always get those two mixed up.

Bloody hell your DP really knows how to live it up. Kentucky buckets and Footloose on the telly Aren't the kids a bit young for chomping on spicy wings? I'm thinking that maybe Verity can just suck on the bones...... I'm wondering if your DH has a burberry baseball cap lurking in the back of the wardrobe And you've never lived JJ if you haven't stumbled out of a nightclub and ordered a bucket just for yourself. Or are you more of a kebab woman?

Docs came round this morning and told me that all Katherine's blood and urine tests came back with a big fat negative. Well bugger me. There's a surprise. NOT. So useless antibiotics are stopped henceforth and canula taken out.

jeanjeannie · 20/08/2008 20:15

Awww mrsboogie poor you On the positive side it's been caught - which is for the best. JW didn't you have this? or am i thinking of something else? I'm sure everything with the baby is fine.....but let us know how you get on tomorrow

Well, Iris LOVED the boat ride - she was so excited - bless. And NO, we didn't have a Kentucky - we couldn't find one in Windsor - too posh. So we had a "Gourget Kitchen Burger" instead - tres yummy

Blinkin antibiotics....useless when not needed

jeanjeannie · 20/08/2008 20:17

Gourmet even

mrsboogie · 20/08/2008 20:43

aye - it could easily have been missed since that same morning the midwife didn't find anything in my wee. It was only when they did the second sample at the hospital that they found sugar. So I would have gone another two weeks at least if it hadn't been for the high blood pressure that sent me to the hospital in the first place

Still worried sick now tho' that the placenta hasn't been doing its job for god knows how long...
