Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jeanjeannie · 10/07/2008 19:27

Hot dog jumping frog Alburquerque...aren't they near Lost vagueArse? Ha ha I love Kentcucky!

pwcbird an orange shed - how fab...is it sort of Dale Winton Orange or more your sun-kissed Des O'Connor?

mrsboogie don't go mad - you'll end up not using half the stuff..tempting though it is. My fave buy was this
bath seat It's brill Verity loves it and Iris did too. I had arthritis after Iris and found bathing her almost impossible but with this they're secure and you've got your hands free. So simple - can't rave about it enough and it's cheap Plus you don't need to fill up a heavy baby bath - just fill the main bath up a bit and you're away!

Oooo what else did I buy that I like...? Oh yes...a decent vibrating rocker (Verity in it now) and a tiny love play gym...bloomin brill ...and a tiny love cot mobile...also brill!!

BTW anyone see the programme on Freebirthing last night? OMG...I went to bed after the first two!

FloriaTosca · 10/07/2008 19:40

Oh, tips for possible Amby users..buy their fitted sheets(they have elastic to keep them in place)and dont use blankets just use groebags.

Incidentally the Amby site says that turning over is almost impossible...well when they get strong (over 8 months) it is possible, just not likely...I do know of someone who has stopped using hers at 9 months because her dd decided to spin .. but she still feels it was worth the money for 9mths good use.

hedgepig · 10/07/2008 20:49

evening cripes you have been chatting. My colleagues have returned from Copenhagen so my mumsneting is back to the evening. My browser at work is emblazoned "For business purposes only" so I really shouldn't even be peeping but it's so hard and I'm so bored at work.
I just looked at the hammock thing it looks super but I do have visions of DS (4 almost 5) using it as a catapult with the baba in it ekkkkkkkkk
on the cake front I was very fed up with Tesco they had no coconut macaroons when I popped in yesterday - I have a real craving for then how can they do it to me.
pcwbird you are so lucky to have a new shed we have a metal thing in the garden from the last people which is concreted into the ground so the paving will have to come up if we ever get rid of it.

disneystar · 10/07/2008 21:04

hi guys just a quickie
i came home today with samuel

he arrived wed 9th at 9.47 am after a very long labour weighing in at 6lb 15oz loads of jet black hair
im sore bruised and so tired so will catch up with everyone later
hope everyone is ok

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 21:07

this grobag thing - these are little sleeping bags yes? are they good?

no I don't intend to go mad buying loads of stuff - we have a small house and its full of OH's games consoles and electronics and my shoes and clothes and general shite as it is so there's no space for piles of unnecessary baby stuff. This is why I can justify the Amby hammock I reckon. I'd rather buy a few expensive but really good things than a load of stuff that will never be used.

Oh god I read the thread on the freebirthing programme - had heard of it - I'm sorry but it is mad. I would rather all the medical intervention and interference in the world than find myself alone on my sofa giving birth. Fanatastic if you are one of those people who pops to the loo in the night has a bit of a twinge and has popped the baby out on the bathroom lino before the ambulance driver's finished his fag but otherwise nooooooooooooo!!

This programme combined my other horror also - people allowing themselves to be filmed giving birth. Why would anyone do this? Why?

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 21:08

disneystar - hope all is ok!!

congratulations xx

jeanjeannie · 10/07/2008 21:24

HURRAH! Wooo...welcome Samuel and well done and loads of hugs disneystar xxx

mrsboogie I totally agree...why, oh why would you let someone film you give birth..UGH! Mind you the woman in wales who freebirthed in a pool at home was amazing. I've strained harder having a poo than she did popping out her baby ! She didn't make a sound - didn't seem to push and was so blinkin relaxed she looked like she was having a snooze.... Barking, barking mad the lot of 'em!!!

hedgepig...OOoo now, I've never really been-at-one with coconut macaroons. Mind you I think its their first mention on the thread! I'm contemplating making my date and walnut loaf tomorrow - well, it is Friday and a girl needs a treat on a friday!

hedgepig · 10/07/2008 21:43

Hi Disneystar many congratulations. Hope the bruising subsides and you are feeling better soon. Sweet dreams Hxxxx

MrsB grobags are brill particularly is the baby is a wriggler and wriggles out of their sheets gets cold and crys. Or wriggles under the covers and gets into trouble.
link here. There are other makes but I used the original ones last time .

hedgepig · 10/07/2008 21:51

JJ i normally can't stand them they are far too sweet but they just take my fancy at the moment.
I didn't see the free birthing programme but I read an article on it a few weeks ago. I suppose it is all very well until something goes badly wrong. Not for me at all, i keep toying with a home birth idea but I like the reassurance of being in hospital.

FloriaTosca · 10/07/2008 21:53

Congratulations Disneystar! Welcome to the world Samuel. I hope you both recover from your long ordeal quickly.

MrsBoogie Yes the groebags are sleeping bags and they are fabulous..no worries about los getting smothered under the blankets or throwing the blankets off and getting too chilled.

didnt see the prog on freebirthing but..really???...not a sound???? I think I frightened every other woman on the delivery ward last September!!!

johnworf · 10/07/2008 22:20

Hey disneystar. Well done and welcome young Samuel Glad you're both home and well dear. Can't wait to see pics of the wee man.

I've bought a couple of grobags but obviously not tried them out yet. I'll put some tomatoes in them while I'm waiting for Special K to come home.....on the subject of which..........just got home from evening visit to see her. She was off the CPAP for a whole hour - just had the oxygen mask near the porthole of the incubator. My chest is so puffed out with pride it's about to explode.

I asked at the hospital today about the hammock and none of the nurses had heard of it. It hasn't put me off though and I'm still very interested in getting one. I'm just looking to buy a car seat at the mo but not sure whether to get a silver cross one to fit on the pram or just get any and not bother fitting it

I haven't got any other fab inventions to recommend least of all coconut macaroons They're vile I'm sorry to say. I would rather eat a dog poo...or worse, something from MacDonalds.

hedgepig · 10/07/2008 22:28

I'm staring to feel persecuted here for my cake choice more for me hurrahhhh

Well done young K all that breathing.. JW I would ask the hosp about using the car seat as a pram for a premie, rather than lying flat. I know for term babies they are not recommend for more than 2hrs cos they squish the baby up and interfere with breathing so I would imagine it would be very important not to do this with Katherine. I know they are very convenient but I never have felt happy with the idea for a little baby.

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 22:40

coconut macaroons -they're not bad once in a blue moon, dammnit now you've made me want one...tsk.

ooooh jw that's fab - breathing on her own - go Special K!!.

rosebury · 11/07/2008 01:04

Coconut macaroons are lovely I get them from sainsburys approx six in a pack half coated in chocolate are they the same type hedgpig, the problem is that i eat the whole pack very easily and then get indegestion.

The bath seat looks vry good do they sell it anywhere else in the high street.

Cingratulations Disneystar make sure that you and Samual get some rest because you will need it.

How many of us on here are expecting and when are we all due does anyone know?
I am due in Oct with Emmsy1 and hedgepig
mrsboogie in sept fortified in Aug and that is all that I can remember.

johnworf · 11/07/2008 07:52

I would like to correct my last post to say that Katherine was off CPAP for a whole 2 hours last night and coping. They decided to put her back on the CPAP after this time as they didn't want to push her. This is such fantastic news! Go Katherine

Anyway, I took some pics of her off her CPAP last night and you can just about see my little piglet under her hat

Enjoy

pwcbird · 11/07/2008 08:14

Ooh I'm off for a few hours and look what happens!
disneystar fab news. Congratulations and welcome to the world Samuel. Hurrah!

johnworf terrific news with little Katherine. She is a strong'un and no mistake!

rosebury I am 20 weeks this weekend and due 30th November with DC#2.

jeanjeannie Dale Winton orange sadly

As for coconut macaroons (wouldn't that be a good mumsnet name btw) I haven't had one of those for yonks and now I'll have to buy them. I'm almost as mad for the coconut as I am for the marzipan. This is turning into some kind of cake regression for me... yum

FloriaTosca · 11/07/2008 08:26

Hedgepig I love coconut macaroons too..(but will admit that you dont get as heifer sized as me by disliking much)..Tescos cocolate dipped oned are lovely (6 for about 75p!) but M&S do lemon ones ( 2 put together like meringe shells with lemon cream in the middle)2 for an expensive 99p but delicious...
...Good grief!, just listen to me waxing lyrical over cake! when am I ever going to get the will power to diet again

johnworf · 11/07/2008 09:47

Thanks FloriaTosca Yes she does look contented doesn't she? She was kicking off yesterday when her milk was 10 minutes late. Uh oh, can you see how this is going to pan out when she's home?

She really is an ickle monkey pants.

By my guestimations, another 2 weeks weight gain and she can wear some clothes - finally! She'll be 33 weeks by then

Coconut macaroons...bleugh. Horrid things. I think we should have a top 10 of cake type things on here. Here is mine to kick things off...

  1. tarte au citron
  2. angel layer cake
  3. egg custard
  4. madeira
  5. coffee cake
  6. lemon drizzle
  7. carrot cake
  8. lemon cheesecake
  9. apple pie
  10. anything with 'double chocolate cake' in the title
johnworf · 11/07/2008 09:53

Oh I meant to say jeanjeannie I have a bath seat (but strangely, no bath only a wet room!) but it's much more Heath Robinson than your swish affair. It's like half a towel strung over a wire frame.

Here is another thing I remembered I bought a while back for Katherine. It's called a taggie blanket and those of you already with LO's will probably already have one

www.thebaby.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx?sn2=Treat+me&c=&b=Taggie&id=139

I also bought my pram from this shop and they have some lovely items in yet to be purchased by myself

pwcbird · 11/07/2008 12:05

I've gone for cakes and puddings:

  1. Chocolate cake (any type)
  2. Lemon drizzle
  3. Egg custard
  4. Creme Brulee
  5. Cherry & almond cake
  6. Rhubarb crumble
  7. Upside down cake (hot with custard)
  8. Carrot/passion cake
  9. Rice Pudding
10.Cheesecake (any but pref. the italian baked one wiht saltanas)

Do you know I think I am Bad Mum as I got nothing special really for DS - he lived in baby-gros til he was 3 months - didn't have a gro-bag just traditional cellular blankets (which he totally loves now and sticks his fingers through the holes), normal mothercare baby bath. We did have a crib that rocked when he was in our room, which was FANTASTIC as I could lie in bed and just stick my leg out and rock the crib - , ordinary muslin cloths from baby section at tesco and I really can't think. Taggies are great though - we have a taggie board book which he loved.
Car seats - down to the individual. We got one we could put in the pram and never did it. Car seat stayed in car and we just tranferred him to the pram. He always looked so uncomfy in the car seat I could never bear to leave him in it for too long but I see lots of others taking their children round supermarkets etc with the car seat in the trolley.

hedgepig · 11/07/2008 12:55

you are making me hungry with all this cake pudding talk. I will have to ponder my list while I go to antenatal yog. I'm off to shropshire for the weekend for my brothers wedding so have a good one everyone see you Monday.

jeanjeannie · 11/07/2008 14:05

johnworf Fab news...Katherine looks mighty fine...positively chubby chopped!!

OK, OK....who mentioned egg custard??? Come on you know who you are. Don't you know just thinking about cold custard makes me feel sick Rice pudding comes a close second in the queasy stakes Thank God no one mentioned jelly....*runs and hides. To quote the skinny bloke in 'The Office'..."you know I don't like jelly - I don't trust the way it moves". It's more evil than marzipan

My list would be something like this (including puddings)
1 Cheescake - preferably baked
2 Coffee and walnut sponge
3 cream slice
4 Cream & jam doughnut
5 Victoria sponge with fresh cream & Rasberries
6 rhubarb crumble or pie with HOT custard
7 Tiramisu - DP makes a good one
8 Tarte au Citron
9 Any french pattiserie ...with fruit on top
10 My date and walnut loaf...sometimes with banana too!

Great - not a sweet treat in the entire house Grrrrrrrr......BORED...Want CAKE

johnworf · 11/07/2008 17:31

haha...I just love this. Top 10 cakes. FAB! We've all got that Friday feeling

Been to see Katherine today and she was completely off the CPAP Just in ambient oxygen/air. I hardly recognised my own daughter as they took her hat off! Anyway, she did 3 hours off all the tubes etc so it's looking like a transfer might be in order (all being well) next week to a more local hospital. Huzzah!

The nurse thinks that at some point over the weekend she'll be moved out of ITU and into the calmer/quieter room next door - a promotion!!! Can the happiness never end??!

Oh, 2 snaps from today with hair - for you jeanjeannie really...see if you can spot the reddish hue

pwcbird · 11/07/2008 18:36

This truly is momentous and breaking out the babycham news johnworf. And the pictures are great - she looks so much bigger and fuller now. Fantastic! I think we should all allow ourselves a slice of whichever cake we want in celebration of Very Special K. Big happy ((hugs))

pwcbird · 11/07/2008 18:41

Btw jeanjeannie you have a very classy cake selection - you are definitely top notch
And never diss the egg custard or rice pudding. They were sort of growing up favourites (my mum does a ding-dong rice pudding) though can understand that a lower standard mass produced custard tart or rice pudding could be slipping towards the slimey. But good ones - there just ain't no touching them!
