Ok we have talked to the end of the topic so here is a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pwcbird · 09/07/2008 18:45

Good to start the tellings off early JW so that baby K knows who's the boss

Missed that 'long cream' bit of jeanjeannie's post. Ooh-err Vicar... another cucumber sandwich??

Feeling a bit low today - DS has, since weekend, been hitting me in the face and thinks it's a glorious game. Gets almost hysterical with the enjoyment and the more I say 'NO' and look furious at him the more he gets over excited. Have looked at some other threads and seems super normal and a 'phase' and all that but he's normally so good and actually quite a sensitive little lad. He's 2 in August so maybe it's the 'terrible two's' approaching . Didn't help that we were stuck indoors with practically a moat outside with so much rain. Ahh me

johnworf · 09/07/2008 18:51

Oh, wonderful pwcbird. The slapping game. I'd try distraction when he does it. Sometimes I think they enjoy the reaction from you rather than the slapping part (flicks through her medieval toddler taming book).

Yep, distraction is what I remember doing when mine started with the naughtiness - and I'm still distracting them now, usually with money

mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 19:19

pwcbird - that game definitely sounds like the "lets see mummy's funny slapped face again" game

I am in York where its been like a bleedin' sauna all day. Its warm and damp and muggy and worse than heatwave weather for making me faint in shops. Sigh. Also I have groin ache which is making me walk funny. I thought it was caused by cycling but now I think its just some ligament stretching going on. I was not a pleasure to accompany round town today...nope.

Ooooh johnworf that's something to look forward to - if Special K keeps progressing she could be graduating to the big room too - take it this is a less intensive care ward?

Coffee and walnut today...

johnworf · 09/07/2008 20:00

mrsboogie the next room (Room 2 as it is locally known) is HDU and SCBU. Room 1, where Special K is at the mo is solely ICU. Beds are a premium so it is literally the poorliest babies get the beds and the wellest ones out the door and down the corridor. Tomorrow, or even tonight, it could be Katherine if a baby more poorly comes in and she is the only bed/baby that can be moved. Fingers crossed.

One of the nurses took a cracking pic of Special K this morning without her hat and mask on. It's weird seeing her without her party disguise but anyway, I digress...she looks like a real baby on it unlike the old lady of yesterweek...but...and here is the slightly dubious news...she has RED HAIR a la Ronald MacDonald It was black last week and now it's def ginger. Obviously someone has snook in during the night and dyed it.

Ouch @ groin ache. Give it a stretch or try a hot bath. Probably baby's head doing the damage. I'm so glad that I'm past all the aches and pains of pregnancy/delivery/breast feeding. Gosh, I am feeling very smug today , sorry.

Post natal next Tuesday, smear test included as a bonus. I can hardly contain myself DH is already pawing me in anticipation as I've said that nothing can resume in that department until consultant has given me the all clear. Lots of crosses on his calendar

Coffee cake here...

pwcbird · 09/07/2008 20:24

Oh you are lovely ladies and do make me smile and cheer me up with your chat. Really I'm just tired today and had a bit of cabin fever - I'm not very good at staying in all day even though there are a million things I could be doing. I have this Wuthering Heights thing and need doors and windows open and all that. You're right with DS - it's a game and he enjoys my reaction - it seems to be when we are playing and as he gets more excited it turns to the 'let's slap mummy in the face'. I think distraction and no reaction (as in, this is VERY DULL) is the answer.

johnworf you do make me laugh with your DH... I was like that after DS- I don't think I let DH near me for quite a few months actually. I just wasn't in the mood at all. And as for ginger..I quite like ginger. My first 'proper' boyfriend was ginger - curly haired and it was sort of geeky but nice. Girls look lovely red haired. It'll probably be blonde tomorrow Ahhh. smear tests.... such a delight for us women. Enjoy, enjoy..

mrsboogie you are wicked with the cake thing. I'm still slicing the battenburg secretly. I love cake, me

johnworf · 09/07/2008 21:03

pwcbird despite having the heating on today (which DH has turned off) I have the bedroom windows open all year round, even when it's blowing a gale or snowing. That's my northern streak. The central heating is from my time down sarf I think when I became 'nesh' (this is a northern word so you'll have to ask a northerner what it means if you live south of Manchester town hall).

My mother and sisters are all red btw which is prolly why I have an aversion to it - it's the tempers more than the hair colouring.

As for DH well..and this may sound weird or may not, I don't seem to be able to mix my breasts for business and pleasure. What I mean is they are either for feeding baby or for DH. It seems a bit pervy to let him near them when they're full of milk, to me anyway. Ok, now I re-read that it does seem weird but that's just me

Btw I hate battenburg cake. It's the almond thingy going on. Give me lemon drizzle cake any day!

I've been surfing the web for a couple of hours now in vain. I'm trying to find a nice wool - I'm thinking merino - or cashmere wrap. On the lines of a pashmina or very large scarf but not as big as a cape. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find one that doesn't cost the earth?

johnworf · 09/07/2008 21:08

Oh I meant to add, has anyone heard of or had experience of the Amby hammock?? I'm thinking of buying one but they are expensive so any info would be fab.

It's here if you want to see it www.amby.co.uk/

FloriaTosca · 09/07/2008 22:03

JW I have an Amby, my Mum bought it for us;ds had terrible colic and it was a life saver in that dept. He is now 9 mths and still using it...it rocks/bounces him to sleep without fail...according to my MW there have been no reported cases of SIDS from users of it...We have a bungalow and it slides easily from room to room so we had no need of a moses basket..it fits beautifully by my bed(yes he's still in our room)...we bought the jumpjump attachment which ds adores too and of course it looks absolutely gorgeous!
...so no complaints about it from me, though I'm sure if you start a thread here on MN asking about it someone will have found a flaw.
..oh and they seem to hold their value second hand on ebay!

pwcbird · 09/07/2008 22:42

I love marzipan. I actually have a bit of a 'thing' about it. I could just buy packs of marzipan and bite into them. Have I made you all want to vomit yet?? And lemon drizzle cake.... I used to have a fabulous recipe for that but I lost it. I need some light relief as DH and I have been watching that Criminal Justice that was on all last week (we taped it). Boy it's SO DEPRESSING. I've told DH he's got to talk to me for hours and hours tonight as I can't go to sleep thinking about it.
nighty night all x

mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 23:19

mmm...marzipan

I think I am turning into the Amy Winehouse of cake - just hope I can wean myself off the stuff after...

But its practically my only vice (apart from the tub of Ben and Jerry's on a Saturday night watching Midsomer murders)

Did anyone else read about the recent study that said pregnant women who ate dark chocolate five times a week had much lower incidence of pre-eclampsia? apparently the theobromine opens blood vessels and is good for placental blood flow. I thought it was a great wheeze at first having license to eat it but it kind of makes me feel sick now and I feel obliged to continue...hmmm

jw - you have sold me on this Amby hammock (now if someone could just enlighten me as to what one is ;)

ooh and I hope this new pic of Special K with her new ginger barnet is going to appear soon - gosh I wonder if she had made her appearance as scheduled would she have come out ginger or did the dark hair have to fall out first...

night all

mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 23:32

oooh I found the Amby hammock - nice! want one!

Fortified · 10/07/2008 00:11

Mmm, lemon drizzle, my favourite! Nigella's recipe in Domestic Goddess is pretty good.

Saw SATC last night with another preggy friend - in Leicester Square, so a big night out for me these days! Made me come home and be nice to DH (made his night as he's on pretty short rations at the moment). JW I'm the same on mixing business and pleasure breast-wise, but trying to be a bit less uptight. (I've been slapping DH off them for months and haven't even started with the BF).

Ended up seeing a registrar instead of the consultant yesterday and she didn't do much to help me decide (but perfectly sweet, so couldn't really justify any eye-poking). We agreed on a c-sec booked for some time in week 40, between 7 and 12 August with the option to have a go if labour starts before then (in other words complete decision avoidance)! I've ended up with 7 August as D-day and still don't know if I've done the right thing! I think I'm going to cut out Jeanjeannie's eulogy on elective cs and stick it on the fridge. Shame Ocado don't do babies - Waitrose Deliver have just started in my area - maybe they will?
HP, I'm 36 weeks now.

Fortified · 10/07/2008 00:20

I read somewhere that babies whose mothers ate chocolate when pregnant laugh more than others. I thought that was pretty good justification for a Dairy Milk habit. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3604275.stm

johnworf · 10/07/2008 08:17

mrsboogie attempting to scan in the pic that the hospital did of Katherine with her red barnet. Might not shine through on the scan but I'll give it a go

The amby hammocks do look fab and I've even sold the idea to DH although he did ask what we're to do with the swinging crib we've already got - I'll just put it on Ebay with all the bedding I bought I'm going to ask one of the nursing staff today if they have any thoughts on them especially for premature babies (although they're for all babies).

Yuk. I hate marzipan. Probably why I hate wedding cake as well. It's spawn of the devil.

Fortified I would have gone with the elective CS had Katherine waited long enough. In a funny way I was looking forward to it and when I was in labour my memories of it all came flooding back from the previous 3 and I remembered why I decided not to have any more children....too late by then of course

jeanjeannie · 10/07/2008 08:20

johnworf I'M GINGER....!!!!! And so is Iris and now it looks like Verity is too !

Us gingers rock...fiesty but not nasty. Oh Katherine....you are a 'chosen' one!!!!

fortified OOOoooo 7th Aug...it's so weird knowing the arrival date in advance isn't it. We're doing so well after c-sec...6 weeks on and feeling fab. Back in car too You'll do great...get planning in advance to make life easier.
Have 6 week check next week...no smear for us....hoorah!!! phew johnworf* funny you should mention the Oooozing cream cake reference...I think my libido may be surfacing. Apparently I looked a DP in a knowing manner yesterday

Cake News: Today I will be mainly eating Victoris Sponge

ps..marzipan is EVIL and must be stopped !

johnworf · 10/07/2008 08:44

jeanjeannie I just knew it! I knew there'd be someone on this thread who would have ginger tendencies and I had this gut feeling it'd be you! I think you've misunderstood me..I'm not adverse to people of the ginger persuasion (and btw, Katherine, if she follows in my mother's footsteps, is strawberry blonde not carrot topped), it's just that they sometimes have the personality of an angry wasp It would certainly explain the yanking out of canula and feeding tubes

jeanjeannie · 10/07/2008 10:28

Ahahah - it's a fair cop guv. I like that you could tell it'd be me I'm thrilled my ginger persuasion has winged its way via cyber space and without a piccie!!

Strawberry blonde...yep, that's sort of like Iris - and me. Iris has really dark eyelashes (unlike me) and green eyes (like Dad)...so it's not that orange/red look with red-rimmed sore-looking eyes. That, (and I can say this cos I'm a ginger) is called 'pig-lash'!!

So far, Verity has dark eyelashes and very, very dark red hair. Could be interesting. Needless to say I try at all costs NOT to dress the girls...or me, in pink...it looks shite!

Scan that piccie in girl...I wanna check out that hair

First time I'd heard of an Amby Hammock was in SCBU...one of the nurses said they were fab....so there you go - recommended by professionals!! You simply MUST have it!!

pwcbird · 10/07/2008 10:34

Just send all the marzipan in my direction. I'll chomp it all up.

I like ginger hair so much that I used to dye my hair ginger in the 80's a la Toyah Wilcox and then wore it with big bows Madonna-esque . Still, that was the 80's and we've all done things fashion-wise best forgotten. Probably wore it with a puff ball and I definitely remember pink dungarees rolled up at the ankles like Dexy's Midnight Runners!

fortified I think you've done the right thing and better sooner than later. Keep eating that chocolate too

I want you all to know my exciting day today - I am waiting in for our new shed to be delivered. A momentous day indeed

jeanjeannie · 10/07/2008 10:53

Oh pwcbird A puffball.....that takes me back. In fact I saw Gok Wan last week converting a skirt into one - just in the same way I used to (elastic on the hem and then pull hem up to waist) and I shouted NO...NO ...STOP! I was actually at fashion college when the most hideous crimes against style were committed (84-88) and there he was resurrecting them !! Let the young people of today be left to make their own terrible fashion statements and not copy ours!!!

A shed! A shed IS exciting. I'm waiting in for a cot...I hope it turns up as Verity has out grown the moses basket ..eek!

Sending you marzipan - made into little animal shapes

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 10:56

mornin' all

I know a few ginners (as they are called oop North) and none of them have had the )personality of an angry wasp, laid back to the point of horizontal most of 'em. My best friend has very unusual dark red hair -she took a proper teasing over it when we were growing up but hairdressers and everyone else would always wax lyrical over it. Blokes were always fascnated to find out whether she cough.. "matched".. ahem.

Yes I started work on my OH re the Amby last night - working on the safety angles - no rolling onto tummy, perfect for preventing catsharing (we have two and although I don't think they will be too impressed at the addition to the menagerie they probably will feel obliged to share all bedding - just to be sociable you understand)

cake news: finisishing the coffee and wlanut today and leaning towards marks and spencers lemon drizzle for tomrrow...

johnworf · 10/07/2008 11:06

I am jealous pwcbird I would love a new shed. Ours was broken into last year and we've still not replaced it.

I love the term 'pig lash'. It sounds like a Victorian disease or possibly BBC period drama - I'm not thinking puff balls today but bustles

I did own a puffball and it looked crap on me cos I'm small and have thick ankles but then again I was firstly a punk then a new romantic and other hideous hybrids afterwards so anything worn between 1978 - 1989 was possibly a no-no.

mrsboogie and the burning question today is 'did your friend have matching collar and cuffs'? haha.

So glad that this Amby hammock is getting such good reviews. I'm already sold on one and def going to get one

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 14:23

I found a site called bigimagnation where the amby hammock is £154 with free delivery. I am sold on it. Have been too scared of tempting fate to do much looking at baby stuff up to now but I am 30 weeks today so I am allowing myself a little peek at baby things on the intertubes. No buying yet mind!

Anyone got any other suggestions for cool baby stuff? Want more!

pwcbird · 10/07/2008 16:01

Le shed est arrivé! It looks big and the wood is very orange. It's a ginger shed! Well, that's our weekend sorted - emptying and dismantling old shed (which was here when house bought and painted blue and HORRID) and then erecting new orange house for DH for when he is disgraced . I feel like I should have one of those barn erecting parties that they have in Kentcucky or the like and get the family/neighbours round and they put it up whilst I cook steak and sweetcorns on the bbq and then have a ho-down.

Anyway - I bought 6 chocolate muffins from Tesco today for no reason other than there was 50% extra free. I am trying not to constantly gorge and now there are 6 chocolate muffins looking at me and smiling and luring me. Teasing me they are.

pwcbird · 10/07/2008 16:03

Kentcucky??? That's made me laugh out loud and I don't know why really

johnworf · 10/07/2008 17:03

Where the heck is kentcucky??? Near Texarse?

pwcbird you're just playing with me now and messing with me melon man....I'm easily confused
