Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 08/07/2008 10:55

Does that mean we now have kaz and kez? Brilliant!

rosebury · 08/07/2008 12:24

Congratulations Kaz, how wonderful to have a beautiful baby girl hope to hear from you again soon.

I have been very busy lately ds has finished school now so we have 2 months of holiday to fill with activities that will tire him out while allowing me to rest, easy peesy.

hedgepig · 08/07/2008 12:27

Fortified how did the consultant visit go? How many weeks are you now?
PCWBird and JJ what interesting 1st jobs you had. Mine was counting out seeds, putting them on growth media and then counting how many germinated what fun that was !! I didn't even get to analyse the data just gave it to my boss who did that exciting side of things

jeanjeannie · 08/07/2008 14:10

WOOOOH WWOOOOH!!! claps furiously! Kaz well done old bean - you star. And what a gorgeous name. No stitches No doctors ... flops over in amazement

JW you beat me to the Kaz & Kez quip - gawd damm, yer too quick fer me luv...!

Fortified hope the consulatant visit went well...love the idea of a 'mode of delivery'.....I'd personally recommend Ocado...I'd go for that if I was having another....which I'm NOT! (shouts it so DP can hear ) Yes - poke pesky consultants in the eye if they give you hassle.

hedgepig not all my jobs have been that exciting....my first saturday job was putting jelly into pork pies Looking back on it - I may have peaked then!

mrsboogie · 08/07/2008 14:57

hi guys - just wanted to ask your advice about how much movement I should feel and how strong it should be at 30 weeks. I still have not got much of a bump - you can tell I'm pg but that's it really. The movements did move up a gear a few weeks ago but they haven't changed much since then. On Sunday morning I had to drink two cups of coffee to get the little bugger to move as he hadn't since Sat afternoon!

At my last mw app last week she seemed to think everything was ok size wise (using her hands) but I have to go to London next week for a week and won't see the mw till I get back. I keep worrying whether he is growing properly and whether the placenta is working ok. I think that this is because I am having it so "easy" - even at this point I could quite easily forget I am pg when he is not moving.

I know I haven't really got a problem but I keep fretting nonetheless.

pwcbird · 08/07/2008 15:25

Well I have to remember back 2 years for this so probably others will have more up to date knowledge.
Firstly I would say you have nothing to worry about. I fretted constantly with DS about him not moving - I think it's a very common concern and all was fine. I think so long as you feel the baby move, even if it's not much or big kicking, at different times through the day then you're ok. Remember also that it's usually only when you're still/resting that you'll probably be able to feel anything. If you're being active it'll be hard to feel anything. I don't think it's until you're 32/34 weeks that the baby starts to get really big and lacking space when it gets really 'alien' like and you can see your tummy move and feel it much more
I used to lie down and rub my tummy to get DS to move, or eat chocolate or a cold drink/ice lolly.
Fret not mrsboogie. I'm sure all is fine

Kaz1967 · 08/07/2008 17:15

if you are concerned about movement give the hospital a ring they will ask all the right questions and if need be get you in for a trace it will put your mind at rest and they are honestly fab about it

OP posts:
johnworf · 08/07/2008 17:35

mrsboogie eat something incredibly sugary like a creamy cake or something along those lines to get the blighter up and jumping. The sugar rush should do it.

If not, like Kaz says, ring the unit at the hospital or just turn up on the doorstep like a refugee and demand someone have a listen/look

mrsboogie · 08/07/2008 18:23

eating something sugary like dark chocolate or drinking coffee usually has the desired effect

its more of a non specific "why am I not bigger/is he as big as he is supposed to be/kicking as hard as he is supposed to" type worry.

if I had a specific problem I would definitely do the refugee at A and E thing! I guess I am just worried after being warned abut having a rubbish old lady placenta. Mind you, if a seventy year old can produce a placenta to support twins then what the hell am I worried about.??

thanks xx

jeanjeannie · 08/07/2008 18:38

mrsboogie I only had very subtle movements with both my DC...and it wasn't until the very last few weeks that they were enough to make me aware of them in the day. I agree with the sugary stuff though...and a cold drink. I also found sitting slightly foward set the bump moving.

What does 'rubbish old lady placenta mean...'? never got told that Honestly some medics say the nicest things...designed to reassure you for the rest of your pregnancy

Oooo Prince Edward is in town tomorrow to open our new library...should I go and thrust a baby into his arms for a tacky photo opportunity?

mrsboogie · 08/07/2008 18:52

consultant said over 40's have less efficient placentas esp towards the end which is why they won't let you go over six days late.

wonder how disneystar went on - she was being induced today wasn't she?

johnworf · 09/07/2008 08:59

mrsboogie it is true re your placenta...my consultant told me the same and booked me in for IOL (induction of labours) at my 12 week appointment for same reason. I think some will let you go a few days over if all is well. Did you shoot him a look of daggers when he said that to you? Some people have no tact nor diplomacy.

I was wondering how disneystar went on too. Surely by now, lovely little Samuel will be 'on the outside'.

I've rung the hospital today and still can't understand a word that the indian nurse tells me. Without risking being accused of racism, her accent is very strong and I hate asking her more than a couple of times what she's said as I think that I'll appear to be rude. So, today I'm none the wiser as to what Katherine did last night apart from she pulled out her feeding tube.......AGAIN! She pulled it out the other day too along with a canula from her leg. I need to have words with that child She's obviously taking after her mother for being a pest..........

I've put all of my maternity clothes on Ebay now so there's no going back. Def no more babies for me.

hedgepig · 09/07/2008 10:10

JJ - do go for the cheesy photo if only to have a nice picture for when Verity brings her 1st boyfriend home.
Mrs B - movements are so strange if it makes you feel any better the movemnts I feel are very subtal (I'm 28 weeks on Sat so a few weeks behing you) certainly no limbs poking out or anything. If you look on you 20 week scak record it will tell you where the placenta and if it is at the front (anterior, I think) it will cushion the movements. My is fundal whihc is at the top so I feel very much at the top of my bump. I'm not big either (was big enough to start with) and have only recently started to look pregnanat. But as the other say if you are worried call the hospital. PS try and find the contact details for your nearest Materninty hospital when you are in London, (just in case, you wont need it).
JW - what a minx Katherine is when Ben had a feeding tube they used to put a sock on his hand over his cannula to stop him pulling it out (he still managed though).

jeanjeannie · 09/07/2008 10:43

hedgepig I think rain has stopped play on the Prince Edward front....it's like a monsoon here again and I've not got the will to go and sniff him out. I'm gutted....bang goes the cheesy photo !

johnworf atta girl Katherine you tell 'em how you feel about that tube. Iris did it once when I was allowed to have her in my room (I was a lodger there) and i panicked...I thought they'd think I did it!!

Well done you for getting stuff on ebay. I'm a bit scared as I went to put some baby stuff on there yesterday (as Verity is growing out of it so quickly) and DP said ...and I quote..."don't be too hasty - we may need them again".. WHAT?!! He's gone from getting the snip to harping on about another......

Can't stop eating....just can't...not helping weight loss at all

johnworf · 09/07/2008 11:20

jeanjeannie I'm stuffing my face like a woman possessed too and milk pump is going back to hospital today (so no more excuses either to fill my expanding tum).....no more squeezing my boobs for sustinence henceforth. I've got about 2 months supply in the freezer though so I think she'll be fine with that.

Not sure about your DH wanting another so quickly...have you suggested putting his genitals in a vice so that he can experience the miracle of childbirth himself? Perhaps that will quell his enthusiasm

Off to sort my (ex) youngest child's driving license out now....I'm sure it'll be Katherine's turn before I know it

mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 11:26

yes, good idea re the Maternity hospital will definitely do that...

pwcbird · 09/07/2008 13:00

Nobody has mentioned old lady placenta to me yet - though (as I keep harping on about) I've only had 1 gp appt and 1 midwife appt so far (20 weeks on Sunday)! However last year friend of mine, aged 40, was induced as they told her that once you get to 40 your placenta doesn't last.

Have spent morning on phone to Vigin, BT, Sky and computer sites galore as DH wants us to do a 'package' TV/phone/broadband/everything/picking up socks/doing ironing (I wish) so it is left to me, the house secretary 'you're at home all day and have plenty of time' , to research and sort. I hate talking to these sales people with thier lists of answers and fobbing off type responses. Difficult also with a 23 month wanting to run amock plus it's raining so we can't even go outside so I can wear him out. Rain ,rain, go away, come again some other day!

Sorry, just venting there.

You are so organised johnworf with your ebay. I have bags of stuff here and I haven't done a thing.

disneystar... what news of no.7 little Samuel?

Oh, and who is it I am to blame here... I think it is 'mrsboogie'. Yesterday I had to buy a battenburg cake as I couldn't get it out of my head since you mentioned your M&S one, and I have been eating it ever since. I have also secreted it in a cupboard so no-one else knows about it or can eat it. Can I blame my hormones on this or is it mere greed

jeanjeannie · 09/07/2008 13:55

WOW..Johnworf a two months supply...you have been busy! Good on yer. Am PMSL at your vice-like idea for curbing DPs enthusiasm. Might have to try it - i think I said before that his first question at our first NCT class just before DD1 arrived was..."how quickly can we have another one?" And yep - we're the only one out of our lot to have had another! Quite frankly I'm way too tired to be triffled with like that at the moment

pwcbird I love the fact you're secreting cake about the house...like a small child refusing to share ! I may give that a try with biccies. DP has the most riduclous sweet tooth...he has to eat anything sweet and yummy in one go - or it'll bother him that it's lying around! Then he moans about his weight gain since he's met me

Good luck with your phone - tv - microwave

  • domestic slave package! Those sales people bamboozle me in seconds...I'd be signing up to $$££ in seconds with my baby brain!
mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 14:06

yep I am the guilty one pwcbird sorry I ate half a Battenburg the other day!! they are only tiny tho. ahem.

Is being induced necessarily a bad thing then? I know nowt about it. I certainly don't object to not being left to go too long over.

pwcbird · 09/07/2008 14:56

Well, I heard not too terrific things about being induced in the fact that because it's a 'false' start to labour that it means often that labour lasts longer and secondly means much more likely to have a c-section as generally the baby is not inclined to come out. That's what happened to my chum and I've read it elsewhere as well. But to be honest, if I end up getting induced, then I do. Most important that the baby is fine, I'm fine and we all get through it ok.

Have had to put the central heating on as it's like a iceberg in this house. On 9th July! Shan't tell DH

mrsboogie · 09/07/2008 15:29

what? where in God's name are you pcwbird? I went into town on my lunchbreak and nearly fainted in H and M from the muggy heat.

pwcbird · 09/07/2008 16:03

Didn't you know that Croydon is next to Siberia?
I think it's because I'm stuck indoors all day. Pouring with rain and small child leaping about and I suppose I'm not being very active. I do feel a bit overwarm now so think I may switch it off. Normally I get 'pregnancy temperature' so I'm hot but today I'm cold.

jeanjeannie · 09/07/2008 16:58

pwcbird.....ahahahahahaahha...I thought about putting the heating on!! Poor Verity was shaking...she's wrapped up like a eskimo child! It's blo*dy FREEZING here. I think if Croydon is next to Siberia then geographically Bucks must be in the Arctic Circle

More to the point mrsboogie where on earth are YOU??! Africa?!

I was induced with DD1. It was a bit like going 0 to 60 in a car in about 3 secs Basically the pessary worked in about 20 mins...and I was told can take up to 3 goes to work! But it all went Pete Tong after about 8 hours on the drip...as DD1 was struggling but that was nothing to do with the induction.

Main problem with it that I could see was the constant monitoring - so you're stuck on your back

I've done loads of tidying up today I feel very virtuous....but now I want a treat and my thoughts are turning to.....CAKE To be more precise...a long doughnut with jam and cream....MMMMmmmmmmmm

johnworf · 09/07/2008 17:56

I've put the heating on today but then again Manchester and Antarctica are twinned. On the subject, my Grobag Egg thermometer arrived today and I decided to test drive it. What I thought was a cold office (just prior to turning heating on to 'blast furnace' setting and getting told off by DH) turned out to be too hot! Makes you think that your LO could be overheating by your own guestimations. Def worth investing in this Egg contraption - recommended by one of the nice nurses in neonatal unit.

Well sadly today, Katherine's little neighbour was moved to the BIG room next door - progress for him and nearer to going home. He was born two weeks prior to Katherine and also at 24 weeks gestation. I'm hoping that Special K (as she is now known) will take the initiative and hop next door herself soon. Oh, and btw, she's once again pulled out the feeding tube so I think she's had a stern telling off

johnworf · 09/07/2008 17:57

jeanjeanie just noticed your post about something long with cream oozing out of it..I shan't state the bloody obvious
