I felt a gush and this came out? Should I be concerned? 31 weeks pregnant.

In fairness, there was a bit of a clue in the title.

MauriceTheMussel · 20/02/2026 20:54

I mean, it’s the Pregnancy board with the word “gush” in the title…

OP, it does look quite mucus-y, so if me, I’d want to be checked over. That said.x you can lose your mucus plug and go weeks before labour comes on

You chose to open the thread, what did you think it was about?

tealandteal · 20/02/2026 20:54

Could it be your mucus plug? I don’t know what they look like as I never saw mine. If you felt a gush you should contact your midwife.

Oh yeah cos it’s just soooo offensive to look at 👀

NameyMacChangey · 20/02/2026 20:56

I think you should ring maternity triage and potentially go in to get checked out. Hope all is well.

The title is pretty clear, you opened the thread, what did you think you were going to see?

@Expecting2ndboy Is it like a mucus plug? Or more liquid? No braxton hicks? Any blood?

PumpkinScarf · 20/02/2026 20:56

I’d get in touch with your midwife just for some reassurance

MyTrivia · 20/02/2026 20:56

I think you should check with the hospital that this isn’t your amniotic fluid leaking.

If it is, baby will be at risk from infection.

What exactly did you do expect when opening the thread with this title, a picture of a puppy?

Oh wheesht! What warning do you need?!

Madwomanuptheroad29 · 20/02/2026 20:58

Do ring the maternity hospital for advice. Was this just mucus or was there liquid as well? Are you leaking now?

FryingPam · 20/02/2026 20:58

OP, call triage and get it checked out, it’s most probably fine but at 31 weeks you don’t want to take any risks.

plsbekinddelicate · 20/02/2026 20:58

Heaven forbid we be exposed to one of the most natural processes on a board literally called Mumsnet. Maternity triage unit phone call OP

EvangelineTheNightStar · 20/02/2026 21:00

It does look like mucus plug, my baby came
along pretty soon after when had similar (35 weeks) but know others have lost parts of mucus plug but still carried on to full term. Agree give mat hosp a ring

NugsNotDrugs · 20/02/2026 21:00

This could be part of your mucus plug. Not necessarily anything to worry about but please do call your maternity unit x

My musics plug came out at a very similar time and I didn’t go into labour until 39 weeks but looked similar and felt like a gush too. But maybe go and see the midwife/ring the maternity line to ask them

menopausalmare · 20/02/2026 21:04

A mucus plug looks like a lump of thick, bloody snot. Smell the pad. If it's amniotic fluid, it has a weird chemically smell, very different to urine or discharge.

And this is why we need the laugh emoji. Clue was in the title. Childbirth isn’t very charming 😂

@Expecting2ndboy likely nothing to worry about but probably best to call whatever maternity care you are using.

domenica1 · 20/02/2026 21:06

Definitely call about this. Very important. My waters broke a bit early and it was quite similar. Noticed no distinct smell just a bit of fluid leaking. Definitely get checked to rule it out.

Mucus plug*! Not musics plug 🙄

domenica1 · 20/02/2026 21:07

@Sudagame maybe next time don’t mindlessly trawl active threads without checking which board they are on??
