And this is why we need the laugh emoji. Clue was in the title. Childbirth isn’t very charming 😂

@Expecting2ndboy likely nothing to worry about but probably best to call whatever maternity care you are using.

The picture came up with the title , l didn't click on the thread or the pic. l just opened Mumsnet and there it was at the top with pic open on same screen.

I’m genuinely intrigued as to what you thought she might mean 😂

Expecting2ndboy · 20/02/2026 22:15

Thank you everyone. I will ring the maternity unit now x

I didn't open the pic it just came up with the thread at the top of my screen.

OK, can we please park your reaction to the picture now? This thread is in danger of getting derailed at a time when OP is clearly very worried and needs advice.

It's not my reaction that needs parking, I'm just answering people's responses that l shouldn't have opened it , ( l didn't) and should've guessed what it might be etc etc .
Maybe posters should stop derailing by throwing insults at me, which isn't helping the OP either.

Was the title of the thread not enough of a warning to you????

The pic came up with the OP on the same screen.

So?

you chose to open the thread!

take responsibility for your own behaviour, the title was clear!

No l won't take responsibility for something lve not done.
The thread opening page came up on my screen showing the pic. I had no choice about seeing the pic. 'Featured' was highlighted at the top. .The thread l had been on was underneath this thread.

My plug came out at about 32 weeks and it was similar. I went into labour 2 days later (very light contractions). I had to get steroids (in case the baby came early), a drip, lenthy monitoring etc. They managed to keep her in another 3 weeks. Get checked ASAP. I wish I had gone the day I noticed it.

Bananafofana · 20/02/2026 22:59

OP that’s great you called andI hope they asked you to come in, I’d be inclined to go in regardless (sorry as mentioned above I have had two prem babies with PPROM (waters going early) with a lot less liquid than in your pic) . Hope all ok.

In over 20 years of being on MN this has never happened to me. You need to report this odd occurrence to MNHQ, I'm sure they can help you.

Thank you and l did, the thread had just been posted that minute when l came back on Msnt, maybe because there were no first comments yet to go under the title, the first few lines inc. the pic was showing instead.

Thank god. For a minute there, this almost wasn't about you.

OP, hope maternity unit have been helpful. It definitely looks a bit like the mucus plug starting to come away but it's not uncommon to lose it and then rebuild it a few times in the run up to being full term. Fingers crossed it ends up being ok for you.

I was scrolling through 'Active discussions' and the picture was indeed displayed without having to open the thread, which struck me as a bit odd, though didn't particularly bother me. I just put it down to poor moderation on behalf of MNHQ.

It's not moderation, it's a technical issue & you should make MN aware.

i still don't get the first reply though. It's hardly a shocking or gory photo ffs.

I don't see it as a technical issue, pictures often appear without actually opening the thread in which they are contained.

Daisymae55 · 21/02/2026 15:02

I had something similar happen at 33 weeks.

I would call your maternity unit and get checked

Just to reassure you, that’s what I did, was in for a couple of hours monitoring and scans but it was all fine and I carried on fine and healthy until 39 weeks so I’m sure everything is fine but better to get checked

If you don't want me to keep posting ,stop insulting me , getting digs in etc. l will always respond to those posts directed at me.

To be fair, I’ve just checked myself and it seems that it’s not a technical issue, I always use the app where photos do not show without opening the thread, but I’ve tried accessing MN on my phone browser and the op post and photos are indeed shown without opening the thread, as you can see from my screen shot.

I still think the first comment was a to the OP, was a bit arsey given the context but I owe @Sudagamean apology for my own arsey response to her where I said she should have known it was a glitch if the photo was visible without clicking the thread. She was telling the truth about how she saw it , I’m sorry @Sudagame,
