@RJF89 it would be more affordable to take them before they start school when you can go out of term time! There I just justified it for you!
I used to love fruit and juice to start with but I think I overdid that and now I hate it. I don’t think I am eating any vegetables either. Not been too bad with constipation luckily as literally sucking ice cubes some days.

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 04/12/2025 05:56

The results are currently 1 in 89. The cut off for concern is 1 in 150. As I said, I know that still means there's more chance that the baby is fine than not but it's far, far higher than I ever imagined. The NIPT is booked for 8:15 this morning and then I'll hear within a week.

I'm also totally off vegetables! Glad I'm not the only one! Like a small child, I prefer them "hidden" in stuff like the blended pasta sauce my husband made for me for my lunches 😂
Although he made aubergine gnocchi for dinner last night and that was the first time I've enjoyed undisguised veg for about 13wks!

Nosejug · 04/12/2025 07:05

Ooh @CremeEggsForBreakfast your husband makes good food! I’m now think gnocchi for tea tonight… I keep making lovely healthy soups and things but then am unable to eat more than a few spoonfuls before being grossed out. I’m eating a lot of houmous (hopefully that’s healthy ish) and am always happy to have spinach in my beans and tomatoes on my cheese, but yeah, there needs to be an overpowering vehicle for these veggies!

very best of luck this morning with your test cream eggs. Hopefully it comes back even sooner than the 5 days.

and thinking of you this week desertsnow, didn’t want to tag as I’m not sure what day it is. I hope that there’s lots of family and friends and love there.

and gosh @Pregnantera you poor thing. Would EPAS be any better at dealing with it than your gp? I’ve actually managed to sidestep my gp on all things fertility as at my very first appointment in coming to her to say we’d been ttc 2 years and nothing yet and could we start investigations she suggested I adopt. Meaning to say I think GPs can be less helpful at things not in the general remit.

Pregnantera · 04/12/2025 18:05

@CremeEggsForBreakfast when I do eat I’m having potato smiley faces and baked beans like a child! Peas is the closest I get to veg! Hope the NIPT went ok today and you get your results quickly.

@Nosejug early pregnancy assessment unit said it’s just for pains and bleeding on my info sheets so I didn’t try them. I guess GPs are very general so it’s limited to what they can know/do but I also don’t feel like I’m properly under the care of the midwife yet either so I’m in limbo land. I didn’t have any lunch today just nibbled on bread sticks and I know I’m hungry but every time I eat anything it’s straight back up again so I’m scared to try.

DaisyKG · 04/12/2025 18:23

Hello all - I have been lurking since we found out in early Oct. I am currently 11+6, counting down till our scan on Tuesday! I finally feel like there might be light at the end of the tunnel - I’ve only been physically sick a couple of times, but the constant nausea has been debilitating. Struggling with headaches at the moment - anyone else?🫠

@CremeEggsForBreakfasti hope everything went ok today❤️

@Pregnanterapotato smiley faces and beans sounds like a dream! I cannot get enough of carbs at the moment😂

SummerSolstice25 · 04/12/2025 18:28

@CremeEggsForBreakfast sorry to hear you’re going through this. I didn’t realise it was something that could be possibly picked up on at a 12 week scan, I assumed it was something only an NIPT would pick up on that early. I actually had the Panorama test done this week and awaiting the results which I am told will take approx 2 weeks. There are other NIPTs that come back a lot sooner. It’s very hard not to worry isn’t it, 1 in 89 in any other circumstance (for example in a raffle) and you’d think you had terrible odds but with something like this of course you would be inclined to think the chances are higher than they actually are.

I keep overthinking my diet also. But then I remember people with HG who can’t eat a thing so my lack of veggies shouldn’t be an issue, hopefully!

Thank you for all your lovely messages re my anxiety the other day. It’s nice to have people here to talk to. I feel much better this week. It helped to see the baby measuring well on the scan at the NIPT the other day. I’m trying to control my anxiety a bit better, avoid stressful situations and just try to be a bit more zen!

Niknak8493 · 04/12/2025 18:36

Welcome @DaisyKGi know what you mean about the constant nausea, I’m really Struggling especially in week 10. I’m exhausted. Not long for you to wait for scan now 😊

Nosejug · 05/12/2025 06:16

@Pregnantera my epas have a big board on their wall with the number of women admitted then successfully treated/discharged with HG. I maybe have a skewed understanding of how helpful they are as I’m lucky with mine, but why not give them a call. Their specialism is literally the health of early pregnancy and if you’re not able to eat then imo they should be helping you. I wonder if the note saying it’s only for pain and bleeding is so that people don’t call for unimportant reasons. But your reason is v important!

Nosejug · 05/12/2025 06:19

I stopped taking omega 3 as I couldn’t see anything specifically saying it didn’t use liver oil, but the idea of fish atm is disgusting and I’d like to try keep my nutrients up. Is anyone taking a preg safe supplement they’d recommend? I don’t understand why pregnacare seem to have the market on this, and force you to buy their other supplement in a package. I have so many pregnancy vits! Maybe I should just try force down some fish. 🤢

Niknak8493 · 05/12/2025 07:42

I’ve been struggling to find a tablet I can actually swallow since the nausea hit. I was recommended some by someone on here but when. I went to the shops they didn’t have them and I needed some that day, I ended up getting a chewable one that included the omega. It’s Bassett vitamins +with omega 3 DHA, so I’m using them this month and I’ll probably get the others next time online. They are Vitabiotics Ultra Folic Acid Tablets 400 mcg Vitamin B12 but I don’t think they have the omega in them

SummerSolstice25 · 05/12/2025 07:52

@Nosejug I’m taking Proceive omega 3, but Nordic Naturals have one that’s a much smaller tablet and doesn’t repeat. Otherwise the bassets chewables have no after taste and covers everything.

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 05/12/2025 12:47

Thank you all for your good wishes!
The rest itself was fine and the midwife was lovely and reassuring. The sample is sent to the lab by Royal Mail (actual blood in the actual post!?!) so I'm assuming it will arrive today. It makes me wonder if the lab technicians work weekends?
Regardless, we're staying with my in laws this weekend for a mini Christmas with our 2yr old. We have a light trail and Santa visit this evening then a pretend Christmas day with dinner and presents tomorrow so lots of happy distractions!

@SummerSolstice25
Yes! The NIPT isn't routinely offered on the NHS but is an option if the results from the tests at 12wks are concerning. At the scan, if you consent, they measure the fluid behind the baby's neck (called the nuchal translucency) and combine it with the results of a blood test to calculate the baby's odds that they have either Down's Syndrome, Edwards Syndrome, or Patau's Syndrome. If they're deemed "high chance" (for DS that's 1 in 150 or higher) then you'll be offered the NIPT and/or a diagnostic amniocentesis test.

The NIPT is fascinating. I had no idea they could isolate and then count (!?!?) the chromosomes from the placenta's DNA!

Pregnantera · 05/12/2025 18:24

@Nosejug thank you, I would never have known they could help with the sickness! I don’t like to cause any trouble so when I read pain and bleeding I felt like my problems were insignificant in comparison. But you are right I can’t be living like this, it’s awful so will try ring them this weekend. Thank you!!

@CremeEggsForBreakfast sounds like you need the distraction this weekend with nice festive activities! I can’t believe they send blood in the post though - that’s mad!

Nosejug · 05/12/2025 20:53

@CremeEggsForBreakfast funny I was looking into nipt today and called a clinic that were saying how a dhl guy would come pick it up and the send it off to America?! Seems like a very snail mail way to test a blood specimen! I’m on the fence about getting it, combined test is next Friday. Did they say you’d find out quickly? Glad the nurse was reassuring, they’re the best ones to make you feel safer. Hope you’re able to put it away and enjoy your Christmas weekend! We do the same with the extended family 🎄

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 05/12/2025 21:02

@Nosejug
My 12wk scan was the Wednesday and the midwife called with the results of the combined test on the Tuesday. I had the NIPT blood test on Thursday and the results should come back in a week (according to the midwife. The official line is a fortnight).

I'm feeling much more at peace about it now than I was. Whether that's because I'm busy and distracted, because the test is over and it's now out of my hands, or something else I don't know but I'm much less worried (still crying at random moments, mind, but we can blame that on pregnancy hormones!)

Nosejug · 06/12/2025 08:22

@CremeEggsForBreakfast ive had a couple of wobbles when singing songs that get to lines that I’d sung during the years of infertility and get wobbly voiced thinking there’s a living babe inside me! I also might go see my niece and nephew’s school nativity and no doubt that’ll make me emo hah.

It’s great to hear you’re feeling peaceful about it :) Enjoy your weekend ⭐️

DesertSnow · 09/12/2025 23:12

@HellnoH20 due date buddy! So pleased your scan went well. How did telling your other kids go? The insomnia sucks, doesn't it?

@CremeEggsForBreakfast You have a really great attitude and are a lot more calm than I think I would be in your shoes. Really hope you get reassuring news soon and hope you had a lovely distracting weekend.

@Juno2026 Thank you for your message about my dad, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin too. It's hard to share baby news when there's grief mixed up in there isn't it? I've not told very many people yet, though I told my colleagues today as it was our Christmas lunch and there was prosecco to be refused. Great on the NIPT results, and congrats on your boy! I'm 99% sure I'm having a boy also, based on my scan.

@Pregnantera I'm so sorry about the HG, I feel pretty sorry for myself with my nausea which is definitely very present at 14 weeks, but that just sounds truly horrendous for you. I really hope it turns a corner soon.

@DaisyKG hello and welcome, hope your scan went well. Yes, I have such bad headaches that paracetamol doesn't touch - definitely didn't have them last pregnancy so have felt a bit floored!

@SummerSolstice25 definitely a safe space to talk about anxiety. Glad you're feeling a bit better!

Thanks all for your well wishes for the funeral. It's this Thursday and will be a difficult day but hopefully will help get some closure.

Are people using the whatsapp group set up earlier on this thread? I think I said I'd join after the 12 week scan and I'm now 14 weeks 😂But wasn't sure if people are more active on here rather than there?

Pregnantera · 10/12/2025 07:56

@DesertSnow getting the HG diagnosis as such is possibly the turning point. No more feeling like I am going mad with the sickness and getting better medicine to help fight it plus signed off work for a week. Got a full day of no sickness yesterday and starting to taste again so the eating will be coming back soon I hope.

Stay strong on Thursday! Thinking of you.

I’m not in a what’s app group not sure if others are?!

SummerLover89 · 10/12/2025 08:43

Yes there's quite a few of us in the WhatsApp group sharing the recent scans etc :) if anyone wants to join

Niknak8493 · 10/12/2025 08:50

How do you join?

Nosejug · 10/12/2025 09:07

Ooh I’d like to join. I used to be very much not into moving the conversation away from Mumsnet but I recently found out they’ve been sharing threads on Facebook without the poster’s knowledge, even after the poster has requested their post to be deleted 😮 so not feeling too trusting of Mumsnet right now

I’ve made a group for anyone who fancies it and will leave the link here if people want to join later on.
I could only make it as a community, rather than a group chat without anyone to add straight away! But it works the same, you can just pin the chat so you don’t have to click through.

@SummerLover89 Thanks for re posting that, I kept meaning to go back and find it! I've requested to join 😊

SarahAndQuack · 10/12/2025 10:17

May I join in please? I've just had my 12-week scan and I'm due June 19th. Single mum; I've got a wonderful 8-year-old DD who is my ex-partner's biological daughter, and this is an IVF baby after a lot of trying! Grin

Niknak8493 · 10/12/2025 10:20

I’ve also requested to join 😊
