I received my first trimester screening results today. As a reference, I had my scan and bloods taken on Friday. My NHS results letter arrived in the post today, Thursday.

My results are lower risk which is great news. We also paid for a private NIPT blood test with Window to the Womb - I also had that blood test on Friday but no results yet. They said up to 7 working days for results in an email.

Has anyone had experience with private NIPT with Window to the Womb before? We chose them because it was around £100 cheaper than other clinics near us but I hadn't had any other appointments with them.

Im 9+3. I’m just looking for some reassurance. I was with my consultant almost two weeks ago, and everything was fine and he basically said that I shouldn’t worry, that I’ve had two good scans (7 weeks and 8 weeks) and that the chances of anything going wrong after those scans are very slim. But on the other hand I feel like I see a lot of posts re loss, and that it’s quite common, but consultant basically said not to worry. Is it that it’s more common at earlier stages than what I’m at? Or is he just trying to ease my anxiety a bit? It’s my first pregnancy after a long road and I’m admittedly overthinking everything. I feel like I need a scan a week to keep me from spiralling! I had a horrible stressful day yesterday (work related)which also heightened my anxiety.

Niknak8493 · 28/11/2025 18:00

Hi @SummerSolstice25im 9+6 and feel constantly anxious. I’ve had an early scan and feel reassured that I saw a heartbeat, but the anxiety comes back straight away. I’ve had two losses one at 14 weeks ans one at 7 weeks. I think my most recent miscarriage is more common in a lot of cases. Where it just never progressed from being a sack and yolk. I had a scan at 7 weeks and there was no baby in there. I think once you get to the 12 weeks mark and the placenta has fully taken over your a little safer. The fact you’ve seen two scans with a growing baby with a heartbeat every time is a really good sign. I know it’s super hard but try to not stress too much. Says me 😂 I’m having vivid nightmares about all my worries in pregnancy so I can’t really talk 😂 but I think it’s completely normal to worry, it’s that maternal instinct to protect and worry about your baby. You can always talk about your worries here ans we can try to ease the anxiety by answering questions we may know the answer to. That’s what here is for. We are all on the same boat 😊

When I look on online forums and social media I am overwhelmed with stories of miscarriage and loss. I have suffered from depression and anxiety most my adult life but a few things are helping me through this pregnancy.

Firstly, I keep reminding myself that the people who post online for support are generally people who are going through difficulties in their pregnancies. There's therefore a disproportionate number of posts about miscarriage and loss compared to uneventful pregnancies - the latter group having less need to seek support.

Secondly, therapy and antidepressants! I am very fortunate that just as my NHS talking therapy was coming to an end, I found out I was pregnant. This made me eligible for more therapy throughout my pregnancy. This combined with my antidepressants is keeping a lot of anxiety at bay.

Finally, I was religiously checking online miscarriage calculators during the first trimester. I'm still checking nearly every day now, but the percentages don't drop so much the further along you are.

Remember, even though miscarriage is common, you're still more likely to have a healthy baby than you are to miscarry. The odds are in your favour xx

looking if anyone has any recommendations….
im currently taking the pregnacare max tablets, they are huge. I’ve not had an issue swallowing them since this week where it is making me physically sick trying to get them down. Is anyone on any different branded tablets where the tablet is a little smaller and more manageable? Would love some help with this. Thanks 😊

Pregnantera · 29/11/2025 18:17

@Niknak8493 those tablets are impossible to swallow when you’re suffering with sickness! I had to throw some of those out because I can’t take them. I’m taking vitabiotics ultra folic acid with vitamin B12. They are so small and much better. I do take a vitamin D supplement separately as well.

Niknak8493 · 30/11/2025 08:03

Thanks @Pregnanterathey've become a lot more difficult to swallow so I’ll check out your recommendation. I know the brand I have so sell liquid form but I’m also worried the taste or smell will make me gag so tablets are a better option just smaller 😂

I'm not generally an anxious person but pregnancy does things to a person! I was googling miscarriage statistics and I think I remember that if you can see a heartbeat on a scan at 8wks then your chances of having a healthy baby are at about 80% and get better and better from there. I don't want to Google it again as I've had my 12wk scan and my worries have eased somewhat and I don't want to go back down the rabbit hole!

Pregnantera · 30/11/2025 21:05

@Niknak8493 liquid form could taste rank based on other medicines I have tried so I would definitely avoid that right now!

DesertSnow · 01/12/2025 23:03

@Pregnantera Thank you, my GP has referred me for physio now, and I know some of the things to avoid from my last pregnancy so fingers (but not legs!) crossed!

Welcome @MangoVirgo - definitely good to keep busy as long as you're resting too when you need it. I'm also jealous that you're running! I ran until 22 weeks last pregnancy, but had to stop at 6 weeks this time because of the bleed which thankfully seems to have stopped now.

Dee51121 - I don't want to tag you to bring you back in to the thread but if you are reading this I am so so sorry and I hope you are doing as well as you can be. Wishing you all the luck in the world and I hope a 2026 baby is still in your future.

@Juno2026 Hopefully your morning sickness will be better by then! It does improve for most people. I had some kind of nausea until about half way through in my last pregnancy, but it got so much more bearable before it finally disappeared! Did you get your NIPT blood test results yet?

@SummerSolstice25 Oh I'm so sorry you're feeling so anxious, there really is nothing like pregnancy anxiety. I don't think I have anything more constructive to add to what has already been said but each day your baby is getting stronger and you really do have more chance of having a healthy baby now than not.

My updates are that I have my dating scan tomorrow, still very sick boo, still desperately trying to pull everything together for my Dad's funeral next week, and I've also received an official autism diagnosis which has brought a great sense of relief.

Niknak8493 · 02/12/2025 13:15

@DesertSnow I hope your scan went great! And good news on the diagnosis, I know it doesn’t so much in helping but it does feel good to know. My son was 11 when he got his diagnosis after being on the waiting list and a long process since he was 5. He cried saying he felt relived to understand why he thinks and does things the way he does. Thinking of you on the run up to your dads funeral x

DesertSnow · 02/12/2025 23:26

@Niknak8493 Thank you! Scan was all good, though had to do it alone as toddler came home poorly from nursery so husband had to stay with her. But all good, low risk and measuring bang on 13 weeks so new due date is 9th June, a day before my birthday. Also I'm pretttty sure it's a boy! Thank you also for sharing about your son's diagnosis, I'm sorry he had to wait for so long. It's pretty much how I feel about it right now!

HellnoH20 · 03/12/2025 06:19

Morning all
i had my first scan yesterday and bang on 13 weeks, so I have the same due date as you @DesertSnow ! Baby looked wriggly and healthy, I’m so relieved!
@Niknak8493 thanks is so much for your reply to me, I know I need to tell them and all will be fine! Now I’ve had the scan I plan to tell my older children this weekend, I’ve bought a babygro from Next yesterday after my scan as I was so excited 😆 may just present them with that!
Symptoms are also easing but my clothes are so tight round the waist! I don’t remember needing to buy maternity wear this early on before, maybe as it’s number 3?
Anyhow pregnancy insomnia has me in a vice and that’s all I have to complain about right now
i hope everyone is doing well, I will try to keep up more!

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 03/12/2025 07:22

I had my scan last week and I thought everything was fine but I had a phonecall from the midwife yesterday saying we have a high chance of Downs Syndrome. I have an NIPT blood test booked first thing tomorrow morning and will have results from that about a week later. I'm all kinda of anxious now and in a weird limbo where I don't quite know what's happening.

I'm not ready to talk about it with anyone in "real life" as I don't want opinions or reassurance or an awkward "I'm sorry" but I thought this might be a safe place to share.

SummerLover89 · 03/12/2025 08:12

Hi @CremeEggsForBreakfast this is definitely a safe space to share, must be a really worrying time waiting for test and then results, will be thinking of you.
I do see so many posts where screening says high chance and then after further investigation, baby doesn't have downs syndrome.
Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hopefully others can share their experience if helpful xxx

Juno2026 · 03/12/2025 09:33

@DesertSnow I will be thinking of you for your dad's funeral. I am so, so sorry you are going through this, especially whilst pregnant. It's not the same, but my youngest cousin died unexpectedly last week and it's been a really challenging time for my side of the family. We haven't announced our pregnancy yet but I feel so heartbroken over my cousin and it's so hard when also going through pregnancy emotions.

My NIPT results came back Monday evening - it was advertised as 7 working days for results and they came back in 6. Fortunately they've come back as low risk for everything. We also included a gender detection as it was an optional extra included in the same price. To be honest I wasn't that fussed to find out the gender and would have happily waited until birth, but my partner really wanted to know! We are having a boy and it does feel exciting knowing we can start choosing a name.

I'm really sorry you are going through this. I hope you are one of the many people whose high risk initial screening is switched to low risk after NIPT. From what I've read online it does seem common to get a "false positive". Sending you support whilst waiting for results xxx

Niknak8493 · 03/12/2025 10:42

@CremeEggsForBreakfastmy sister had high risk for Down’s syndrome and had the blood test where the risk race back so much lower and she had a healthy baby girl. I know it’s easier to say than do but please try to not worry.
im nervous about the same thing because of my age. I have my scan in two weeks

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 03/12/2025 13:10

Thank you all for your support.
I know, rationally, that the odds are still in favour of a healthy baby but I'm still expecting the worst which is out of character for me. I'm trying to switch it up and prepare for the worst and know where to go for support and then hope for the best. It's only a week before things will be clearer and a week is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

RJF89 · 03/12/2025 15:54

@CremeEggsForBreakfast hopefully the NIPT will put you back in the low risk category 🤞🏻

I had my bonus scan today and I'm back at a due date of 10th June so 13 weeks today. Hoping my NT result is low risk, it sounds like I'll know by Tuesday if it's not. The measurement was 1.4mm so Google tells me that's good but obviously the result is combined with the blood test etc. They were very wriggly and swimming around during the scan 😅

Would love the nausea to go away soon so I can run again 😅 Had a nice holiday last week in Germany but a very active one so I had to eat every hour to stop the nausea and light headedness.

Pregnantera · 03/12/2025 18:17

@DesertSnow thinking of you this week with your Dad’s funeral!

@CremeEggsForBreakfast I hope that the NIPT results come back quickly for you and is a positive result. I think with all the hormones it’s natural to be more anxious than normal about these things. I for one am not my usual self!

@RJF89 hope you had a great holiday? I want to get back to running too but this sickness is making me so weak, I do a run/walk on good days and that’s my lot.

At 14 weeks the sickness hasn’t subsided for me and the doctors confirmed that I have Hyperemesis gravidarum. More anti sickness tablets for me but they really don’t touch the sides and they won’t give me anything stronger. I haven’t eaten a full meal since September and I’m unsure how I am still alive at this point. Lost over a stone and totally reliant on my husband and parents to keep things going.

ManifestSunshine · 03/12/2025 19:03

@Pregnantera that sounds awful. I've been doing better the last week or two - I'm now on ondansetron which is really helping, although I'm having trouble getting my GP to represcribe it.

@DesertSnow so sorry about your dad and hope the funeral goes as well as it can.

@CremeEggsForBreakfast that sounds really stressful, I'm sorry. Did they say what the odds were? Fingers crossed the NIPT result comes back low risk and comes back quickly!

@RJF89 glad you enjoyed your holiday!

I had my scan last week, I haven't had any screening results back yet but was told I'd get a phone call within 5 working days if there was a high risk really, it's been a week and I've not heard anything so hopefully that's a good sign. Baby was measuring 3 days ahead but my due date hasn't been adjusted due to it being an IVF pregnancy and remains 11th June. Baby was sucking his/her thumb and was very active which was nice to see.

RJF89 · 03/12/2025 19:25

@Pregnantera it was good thanks! One day at Disneyland Paris before heading to German so that was a bit different not being able to go on many rides 😅 I was walking/running before the spotting started as I have a hilly route so was walking up the hills instead of beasting it, but now it's just the nausea stopping me. Hopefully you start to feel better soon, you've really had it rough!

Pregnantera · 03/12/2025 20:04

@ManifestSunshine the GP is so reluctant to give me anything stronger or different. I am hoping the midwife might be able to if it’s still going on by the 23rd December when I have my 16 week appointment.
I was told the same after my 12 week scan and no phone calls over a week later so think all is good on that front.

@RJF89 I’ve never been to Disneyland but might save that for when Pumpkin can come with us. Hopefully not long before we are both back running, honestly I intended to have a healthy and active pregnancy and that’s gone out of the window!

RJF89 · 03/12/2025 21:35

@Pregnantera My husband went from saying it would be silly to take them before they'd appreciate, so maybe when they're 8, to we'll take them for their 5th birthday before they start school 😂 And yes my diet has been awful, I don't know how my constipation cleared up when I'm getting almost zero veg a week 🙈 Drinking OJ like it's the fountain of youth though 😂
