I’ve got 2 weeks left at work but am so tempted to bring my maternity leave forward. My up and go has all but up and gone (where work is concerned). When’s everybody else finishing up?

Confusedmermaid1 · 27/11/2025 14:08

@Thegirlhasnamechanged I finish 2 weeks today as well, I’ve been lucky enough to save the majority of my annual leave so my maternity doesn’t start until the new year.
First baby and I was so naive thinking if I couldn’t save my leave (or work wouldn’t authorise it because of Christmas) that I would work right up to my due date, I am so done already 😅

I officially go on maternity 1st December but been signed off sick since 10th November. I totally get moving maternity forward do it!

Jadeypie · 27/11/2025 15:50

Speaking of crouching down i got stuck putting the shopping away in the fridge 🤣🤣🤣 glad my partner was wfh to get me up ha I always find walking the school from the car hes going to fall out or my waters will break and I always have this mental image of me walking across the playground looking like ive wet myself! Xx

WanderWalker · 27/11/2025 18:03

@Thegirlhasnamechanged I did the same thing. I bought mine forward by using annual leave and left last Thursday. I had plans to work up to my c section date 🤣 I laugh at myself now thinking how did I ever think I’d get that far.

🤣 haha you are officially at that stage!

My opinion now is…if I drop something on the floor or it’s too low down it’s staying there 🤣 there is no way I can get down there and up in one piece.

Could you get signed off by your doctor instead of using up your maternity leave?

I plan to finish on 23rd Dec (due 15th Jan). Maternity leave officially starts 1st Jan but our office closes over Christmas. My plan is to finish all handover training and notes by the end of next week and then just take the remaining weeks easy and just be there for support for the people doing my job while I am on leave.

My boss is convinced I won’t last until 23rd but I feel fine (just uncomfortable) so don’t see any reason to finish up early

There’s nothing wrong with me, so to speak, that makes me feel like I’d need a sick note. I’m sure I’ve read that if you’re sick with something pregnancy related from a certain week it can trigger maternity leave anyway (but happy to be corrected). It’s just like the big version of not wanting to start anything new at 4.30pm on a Friday at work 😂

as it happens, when checking my annual leave thing to use up “the last half days allowance” I had a lot more than half a days leave left. Going to ask my boss what he wants me to do as I work in the NHS so they won’t be able to buy it back but equally doubt they will carry it over to 26/27. Maybe I’ll just have to work half a day until my maternity leave starts which more than works for me 😁

They can start maternity early if within 4 weeks of due date. When I got my sick note work ask did I want to start my maternity early but I said no and they said that’s fine. They do sick pay for 3 weeks then use my A/L then maternity

Hi everyone, weird question but when did people's breasts start getting bigger? My boobs haven't got any bigger 😭 I'm still a B cup and I've just read I might start producing colostrum this week. Currently 31 weeks. I was hoping my boobs would start to balance out my bump but they're disappearing next to it 😅

Hey. I think it all depends, with my first born it was after he was born and my milk came in. This time I’ve already gone up a cup size and dread if they go up anymore 😭

About 10 weeks for me 😂 But they’ve stayed pretty steady since then.

Mine have gone up a cup size but I think thats just weight gain, they get huge after birth so maybe thats when you'll noticed, ive had colostrum for a while and that hasnt really made a difference yet. My nipple though!!! Wow hahaha there another level this time xxx

WanderWalker · 29/11/2025 11:51

@WildFinch I think everyone’s bodies are different so I wouldn’t worry.
My boobs grew before my bump 🫣 I’ve gone up 2 cup sizes and given up on buying anymore bras. I can’t imagine how enormous they’ll be once my milk comes in after birth.

I’m with @Jadeypie on the nipple situation too…the baby definately won’t be able to miss them 🤣

WildFinch · 29/11/2025 19:44

AHH thanks everyone for replies. Never thought I'd be asking strangers on the internet such random questions as on this thread.
Everyone seems very different. I'll wait and see what mine do then! Was looking forward to a bit of cleavage 😅

100%
My patience is paper thin these days 😅 I was saying to DH yesterday that it feels the same as when I’m hangry but all the time 😅😂 thought I’d be crying at everything but I’m just raging instead 😅

Sunshinemoom · 30/11/2025 14:03

Henbags · 30/11/2025 12:19

Yep 😂

@Henbags@WanderWalker@Confusedmermaid1 honestly I lose my cool so easy. I just don’t want to be around anyone as they annoying me. It’s honestly safer for me to be doing my own thing otherwise I lose my cool

Sunshinemoom · 30/11/2025 14:07

I must also smell of milk as I was holding my friends 12 week old earlier and she wouldn’t stop rooting for my boobs 🤣

I completely agree. I also have to talk to the general public a lot on the phone at work and I’m starting to lose my rag!

Oh hats off to you. I would not be able to deal with the public right now.
