Hello all! Hope you’re all well. Lovely to see some of you already getting the nursery ready. We are getting the room painted next weekend and will start putting clothes away after that - so exciting!

I have a question as I’m a little worried. I have been woken up by leg cramps twice in the past week. When it happens it usually only happens on one leg and it’s very intense - I have to get up and move around and my husband has to massage it. It usually happens when I’m sleeping on my side. I called my midwife today just to see if there’s anything she suggests to prevent it and she said it could be deep vein thrombosis (!!) and to go to A&E?! This seems excessive. I thought it was just regular cramps and now I’m worried. I don’t want to go to a&E as I’ve had terrible experiences there where they basically tell me to go home so I’ve made an appt at my GP instead. I looked at the symptoms for DVT and I don’t have a swollen leg and I am very active - still running most days and exercising (it suggests on the NHS guidelines that DVT is very painful and that moving can cause pain??).

Does anyone have any similar symptoms? What are your thoughts? Obviously going to chat with my GP about it later but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this.

I’ve been woken up this week with horrific cramp in my calf (always same leg) and have to rub it and move around. It didn’t even cross my mind that it’s anything to do with DVT as I thought it was just common in later pregnancy 😐 I had it in previous pregnancies.
I hope you are okay and that the GP can help!

peps2917 · 22/10/2025 17:25

@WanderWalker that is exactly what I’ve had!! I am sure it is nothing. Just being cautious as the midwife made me panic but I really feel like it is super normal

Jadeypie · 22/10/2025 17:46

WanderWalker · 22/10/2025 15:52

Yes. I had my health visitor come last week and I was just under 30 weeks. It seems like that’s the new way they are doing it.
Don’t worry we are in the process of renovating and not got a single baby thing put together and no nursery yet! House upside down! She was not fussed and didn’t ask to see a single baby thing.
Just gave safe sleep advice, feeding advice, gave our red book out etc. I was completely stressed thinking she would want to see the crib up etc, but she was really lovely 😊

Where are you both from? Didnt even know they could come out so soon! Xx

peps2917 · 22/10/2025 18:02

@WanderWalker all ok - GP examined my leg and measured it in comparison to the other and took my pressure etc and she said it was all fine. She said that it’s very normal to have cramps (as expected) but that if I notice swelling and the leg hurts throughout the day to go to A&E as that’s not normal. But short intense cramps seem to be very normal so all good!

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 22/10/2025 19:28

@peps2917 I had a DVT after my first pregnancy and can assure you that pregnancy leg cramps (why is it always when you’re asleep? 😩) feel massively different to DVT. strangely enough the cramps are always in the other leg to the one I had my clots in. Not fun either way but glad the GP put your mind to rest.

peps2917 · 22/10/2025 19:39

@Thegirlhasnamechanged oh no!!!! Hopefully you won’t develop it this time - fingers crossed for you!

I’ve been injecting blood thinners daily since 6 weeks so I hope I dodge it this time too but so far so good!

RealTealQueen · 23/10/2025 00:09

I’ve also had an appointment through today for a health visitor to come. Thankfully it’s in a couple of weeks because the house is upside down right now while we decorate the nursery. I won’t even let friends round, I’m so ashamed of the state of it! 🤣

Jadeypie · 23/10/2025 07:07

@peps2917 oh the leg cramps and pains are the biggest pain in my arse of a night time!! Im afraid when they start thats sort of it, they like to stick around till babys ere! Well mine do anyway xxx

I had my ds in lockdown so I didnt see any health visitors and then when he was born it was just zoom.

As for house being up the wall mines the same, well its not too bad but I just feel like theres stuff everywhere regarding this little one haha ive already told dp we need a bigger house 😅

Anyone els starting to got the nesting urge yet? Ive woke up today like i need to wright lists and start doing jobs around the house hahah ie steam clean every corner or the house haha xxx

Sunshinemoom · 23/10/2025 09:56

Had my consultant appointment this morning, all went well nice to see my surgeon who did my stitch. Been told I’m having growth scans from previous consultant appointment, not sure why but nice I can see baby. As bump is measuring 2 weeks behind but baby is on 53rd centile after my latest scan. So must be how he laying.

have been told every time I get cramps or pelvic pressure I have to be checked out at triage just because of my risks with the stitch. Got my paperwork for my c section been told I will find out the date around 38 weeks, if I haven’t already gone into labour beforehand.

they found glucose in my wee today, so back in 2 weeks for a glucose test 😩😅

dubkitten · 23/10/2025 11:32

Nightmare morning this morning - I checked on my maternity hospitals website yesterday and no information whether I needed to fast for the glucose test today so checked on our health services website and they said fast so I did. As i said previously I normally eat breakfast biscuits in the morning if I am getting in the car as I still wake up feeling nauseous. Traffic this morning was mental and what is usually a 40-50 min drive in to the office in the morning (my hospital is near my office) ended up being 1 hr and 20 mins! I had to pull over to throw up at one stage.

Anyway went to my check up (was my 28 week check up so wasn't purely there for the glucose test) - done the urine, drank the glucose drink and then went to talk to the midwife - got to the end of the chat and I happened to mention fasting - she said I should have had a small breakfast and have being drinking water so now they couldn't do the test and cancelled it! Back in two weeks now to do it again. I said to her that no guidance was given from them and she said that was because there are different types of glucose tests which just made no sense!

On the plus side baby is doing well and got to see them and hear the heart beat. Officially in the third trimester today!!

@Sunshinemoom hey I’ve been told exactly the same any pressure or cramps I have to go get checked. Mind a couple of weeks ago I had a proper run of Braxton hicks and didn’t know to do anything g about them oops. Are they still keeping an eye on your cervix? I think they’re going to take my stitch out at 37 weeks xxx

Yeah they said I’m not wasting their time they would prefer to see me million times over and it be nothing and it be something. When I’ve been to triage with pain they have done Speculum to check stitch. All holding well thankfully. How you feeling for stitch removal we discussed mine today but going to wait until my c section to take mine out xxx

Gizmo1983 · 23/10/2025 16:09

A bit nervous as I have to have another spinal to get it out I hate spinals. Yeah I think with a stitch every ache or pain can be something or nothing if I lift my left leg in a certain way I really pulls the stitch it scares me it hurts. Always better safe than sorry though and they are always so nice x

I totally get that. I know some hospitals only offer gas and air for removal which I couldn’t imagine. Yeah it’s scary. I was saying to my consultant earlier I’m still being sick thanks HG but I know it be putting pressure on my stitch every time I’m sick which scares me x

Gizmo1983 · 24/10/2025 07:28

@Sunshinemoom you poor thing with the hg, I asked my dr about being sick and he was sure that the stitch can handle being sick but i definitely felt mine pull also coughing and sneezing I often feel mine. Apparently after 26 weeks the baby spills out the pelvis so takes a bit of pressure off the cervix and stitch. My cervix length was going down and down till I got to 26 weeks then it slightly increased which does kind of support that I suppose. I’m guessing they will stop measuring the length after 28 weeks 😬😬😬 but I would always rather know xxx

Sunshinemoom · 24/10/2025 07:42

Yeah I’m the same can feel it pull when coughing being sick etc. my consultant said that would happen for where it is I probably feel it. I’m 29 weeks tomorrow and baby still feels low down. I know he’s heads down from my last appointment. But does make sense why my cervix length got longer the last time they checked. How far along are you now? I know they don’t want to keep checking it as the risk of infection. Xx

I went to my first NCT antenatal class last night. I really enjoyed it. I think it’s going to be very helpful. If you haven’t signed up, from what I’ve seen so far, I’d recommend it.

That's good to hear @RealTealQueen. We've signed up for NCT class in our area for babies due Jan/Feb but the first class isn't for another month!

Henbags · 25/10/2025 19:34

Anyone suffering regularly from what feels like awful trapped wind pain? Can’t actually seem to pass much wind and sometimes having difficulty with constipation. Trying Deflatine, which seemed to help in first pregnancy. Not much luck this time around.. can’t seem to relieve it, just wait for it to pass.
Any tips on how to ease it? :(

Gizmo1983 · 25/10/2025 22:56

@Sunshinemoom im 27 weeks will be so glad when I hit 28. Have u rested much or just lived life as normal I havent done heavy lifting and trying to avoid stairs. Xxx
