Oh really how come its different? Xxx

I have no idea. I just remember my midwife saying in my last appointment! Xx

WanderWalker · 08/10/2025 08:46

@WildFinch I’m speaking to my midwife today to see what I need to do 😊

@Sunshinemoom wow i didn’t know that either. So it’s another 6 week gap between appointments (28/34)😣 I joked yesterday that at this rate I will have had the baby by the time the appointments come around.

Yeah you really don’t see your midwife during second pregnancy! Which I think really unfair as if any issues got could be missed xx

Yeah I find it a bit worrying to be honest because there is a 12 year gap since my last pregnancy, so it’s bizarre they still just leave you to it. I’ve got an anterior placenta too so sometimes my movements are a bit all over and I find it crazy no has done my BP for 12weeks or checked baby at all for at least 8 weeks. Stresses me out a bit xx

Yeah would have thought they would have seen you more. I’ve been quite lucky that even though second pregnancy they see me as if it’s my first baby and with the consultant appointments. I’ve seen someone a lot.

if ever unsure about movements always call triage they should check you out. I’ve already been in 3 times with movements, and they always say they want to see me every time and not have me at home worrying. Even if baby starts kicking when I get there.

it’s very stressful and I don’t think it’s right how many appointments you don’t get! Xx

Sorry just catching up after days away! Someone was asking about NCT - we’ve booked but don’t start for another fortnight. My friend did both and she said NCT was better - more likely to be older women I could make friends with (since I’m 40!).

I’ve been looking at the Amazon sale… someone please tell me what I need in terms of pumps, sterilisers, warmers etc!? I’ve never done this before and don’t want to buy what I don’t need. I’d rather get it today while it’s on sale if I do! Thanks!

Are you planning to breast feed, bottle or combi?

I was asking about NCT @RealTealQueen similarly I'm 40 next week so I'm pleased to hear it might be older mums too. Ours don't start until the end of November. Hope you enjoy yours.

Also keen to hear about Amazon or what I might need if you have advice @Nynm23 . Hoping to BF or combi feed ideally.

RealTealQueen · 08/10/2025 12:37

Nynm23 · 08/10/2025 12:21

Are you planning to breast feed, bottle or combi?

Start on breast to encourage the supply and then hopefully pump and hand over some of the feeds a bit later on when he’s older. But I’m basing this purely on things I’ve seen online because no professional has explained anything to me 🤣 So I could be talking nonsense.

Nynm23 · 08/10/2025 13:07

my BF journey was crap last time, no milk came in and with a small baby formula was encouraged heavily from the midwives. Really crap all around.
So my advice is based on above, those who have had a successful BF journey might say completely different.

if I did have a successful bf journey this time, I’d be reluctant to combi feed mainly to save yourself a double job of feeding, pumping and sterilising. If you can avoid bottles, that would be the way I’d go. Though appreciate easier said than done.

if you are solid on combi I would look to hire a hospital grade pump to help supply you can hire online and all pretty slick. Also, ask if your hospital has an infant feeding specialist pre birth and ask alll your questions/ask for advice.

re what you need if bottle feeding

  • MAM bottles can be microwave sterilised, super handy though they’re a faff to wash as so many bits when your going through multiple bottles a day. We still use them now for our bedtime bottle. The sell a starter pack with small and big bottles and a dummy which is well priced on prime sale
  • lansolioh (might be spelled wrong) teets are supposed to be great for combi to avoid nipple confusion
  • You’ll need a bottle brush to scrub the bottles.
  • We have a baby specific collapsible bucket that we chuck the bottles in then wash in batches. We also have a separate one for soiled baby clothes which is a must.

thats as much as my brain will allow and hopefully someone who was able to successfully bf can give you tips for that x

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 08/10/2025 13:26

I started with the intention of pumping some feeds so that others could take over and I could have solid chunk of sleep with my two. Soon gave that up when I realised you can mess with your supply if you don’t wake up to pump too and it was easier just to get baby on the breast rather than pumping and having to sterilise stuff. Very hopeful that I manage to bf this time around as I wouldn’t know where to begin with formula or bottles 😅

Henbags · 08/10/2025 13:36

I've seen my midwife at 16 weeks, 24 weeks and I'm seeing here again at 28 weeks and It's my second baby. Not sure how often I'll see her after that, but that seemed often enough!

Confusedmermaid1 · 07/10/2025 16:18

Covid is on the list of jabs on the front of my maternity notes but no one has mentioned it yet
We usually get offered them through work as well and I haven’t heard anything about that yet so I wonder if they still are and it’s just early or whether they’ve stopped that too

No one is being offered Covid jabs this year unless they’re severely immunocompromised. I think this is the first year that my daughter (who has Down’s syndrome) hasn’t been offered it….

Confusedmermaid1 · 08/10/2025 17:24

@curliegirlie I hadn’t heard anything from work either way but to be fair they don’t organise the jabs any more. I’m surprised it’s been restricted though!

@Jadeypie Just an update from this mornings convo 😊 I can’t remember if you are the same area of the country as me, but I saw my midwife today (28week app) and I next see her at 31 weeks, then 34 (so every 3 weeks) and then it goes to 2 weeks (I’ve had previous babies). So it must vary depending on the area you are in x

Jadeypie · 09/10/2025 07:51

Ive had a bloody awful night with my legs and groins, I went for a little nose around some shops yesterday would say i was out for about 4 hours with a dinner break and wow did i pay for that! I struggled so bad to walk and get out the bed for my night time wees. How am I going to cope when im bk in work? Xxx

WildFinch · 09/10/2025 09:30

Bought a cot bed in the Amazon sale. Apparently good until they're 4 years old which is impressive. That was the only baby thing in the end! Also got a much needed new TV which I'm more excited about!

I will always recommend a cot bed! My son had one used it till he was four, then upgraded to a small double. I will be using the same cot bed for this little one xx

Hiya, which cot bed you go with? I'm from the February group, the baby could well be here end of January if I need a c section, I think we chatted when you were still part of the February group.
Looking at what I need to buy, FTM here so definitely overwhelmed with what I need and which one!

Sorry to butt in, which cot bed do you have? I'm looking for suggestions. I'm from the February group, but baby could well be here in January if I have a c section. Will find out at the end of the month what the doctors think is best.
