Hi guys,

if like me you’ve just got your BFP, then it’s likely you’re due in January too!
congratulations.

@oldmcdonald87so sorry to hear this.
You look after yourself and be kind to yourself x

Morning all, I’d love to join if possible please! I have tried to read through it all but there’s a lot of messages already so will take some time to know everyone’s stories!
I’m currently 7+1, 2nd child but 8th pregnancy - one successful, one ectopic, one mmc, and 4 early losses between 6&8 weeks. Naturally very nervous!!
I had a scan on Thurs because of the losses and baby is in the right place this time and found a heartbeat externally which I was very chuffed about! So hopefully I’m worrying about nothing but it’s hard to forget all the problems.
looking forward to being on this journey with you!

Morning ladies

After some advice - wwyd in my situation

I started a new job on a temp to perm contract. I've interviewed and offered permanent position, contract to commence 18th July.

I am a teacher in a specialist school - very challenging behaviours and often physical intervention needed. High risk of harm to myself.

My new role is none class based as SENCo and DSL - low risk, and not changes to working environment needed on a risk assessment.

I'm coming upto 8 weeks pg. So haven't told work I'm pregnant. I've called and said I wouldn't be in today to avoid all the manual lifting (we swapped classrooms before half term) and due back in tomorrow with the children.

Would you tell work early that your pregnant? I'm so worried that they'll withdraw my offer and was hoping to last until contract signed and in place- equally very concerned about the physical intervention and the violence displayed by the children I teach.

Wwyd?

Morning 😊

Congrats on both the pregnancy and the new job 🥳

I would tell work as soon as possible so the appropriate risk assessments can be put in place to keep you safe. With regards to them withdrawing their offer, that would definitely be discrimination!! So I wouldn't worry about that. This link might help too.

behindthelight · 04/06/2025 08:36

Thank you! I needed to hear it from someone else I think.

Stupidly - I've line managed 20+ TAs at my last setting and would always encourage to speak up and get risk assessments in place.
Seems different when it's yourself!

My heads a bit of a scramble having left my permanent position and not planning this pregnancy!

SureLook · 04/06/2025 09:33

@seeingstars123 welcome and congratulations ❤️ and sorry to hear of your losses. Praying for a sticky bean!

@behindthelight I 100% agree with @Emilym1609 tell them as soon as you can so that you will be safe and it would absolutely be discrimination if they didn't go ahead with your contract. Think of the advice you'd give a friend. I know it's completely different when it's yourself though.

behindthelight · 04/06/2025 10:28

Definitely time to put my big girl pants on and have the conversation tomorrow.

Thanks guys 😊

peps2917 · 04/06/2025 11:51

@behindthelight I am an Assistant Head in a secondary school and I’ve told the Head as well as a couple of colleagues in SLT as I am not feeling great and needing to hide in my office more than usual! It was the right decision for me as it means they’re able to support me when needed. I also can’t sit through SLT meetings without sucking a lemon or eating a cracker!!

Your head will be discreet and supportive - I would say go for it and tell him to protect yourself and be safer in school.

Thanks peps.

My worry is I've moved to an independent school and currently temp until my new contract starts 18th July. Independent doesn't come with the burgundy book regs. Ofcourse all employers have equality laws to follow.

I think I'll have to bite the bullet and hope they're happy for me to start the sendco role away from classroom.

Ahhh always something to stress about!

RealTealQueen · 04/06/2025 12:56

Had a stressful night! After my first progesterone dose, I started spotting just before I had to start work. Thankfully it looks like it was a one-off. Perhaps friction from the pessary? I phoned the EPU back but they won’t scan me again based on that so I might go have another private one at the weekend. My poor husband is so stressed now.

SureLook · 04/06/2025 13:46

@RealTealQueen I don't know much about progesterone but I think spotting with it is quite common? Did EPU give any advice?

Not so much! Just about popping it in and laying down for a bit after to let it absorb. I’ve noticed the wax at the bottom is a bit rough so I tried to smooth that down on the last one I used! I’ve booked in for a private scan on Sunday anyway.

SureLook · 04/06/2025 14:13

@RealTealQueen I'm sure all is fine ❤️

Miracledust29 · 04/06/2025 15:02

Hi ladies hope you don't mind me joining.

I'm 6+2 weeks and cautiously optimistic after a chemical and 2 MCs in the last 6 months. Had a scan at 5+2 which I was dreading as well my symptoms had disappeared a week earlier. They already pre warned me they wouldn't probably see much but they saw gestational sac and yolk sac in the right place. I have another scan this Friday when I'll be 6+4, I just can't shake off this feeling that somethings just not right, perhaps because I've had this all before 😖 I still have sore boobs, twinges and can't sleep at night but I have been on progesterone the past week so could all be because of that! Id anyone else not feeling nauseous yet or not getting a tonne of symptoms like expected? It's such a lonely time, my partner's super supportive but we have a complete renovation going on in the house also so I don't want to burden him with my emotional outbursts all the time! 😆

SureLook · 04/06/2025 15:18

@Miracledust29 welcome and congratulations ❤️ I'm 6+2 as well! And also cautiously optimistic as I had an MMC in January. I'm having similar symptoms to you. Very tired, sore boobs, twinges, disrupted sleep and a heavy feeling in my belly. I think all we can is say I'm pregnant today and that's what matters. Praying for a sticky bean 🤞🏻

Miracledust29 · 04/06/2025 15:25

@SureLook thanks for reply. Congratulations! It's nice to find some on the same dates. It's reassuring just to be able to talk to someone at this point as slowly driving myself insane especially being off work this week....think I'd rather be in work occupied! 🤣
I should be excited but sadly that's been ruined by previous loss, sorry to hear about yours as well. I just want to get to that point where I see the heart beat, I know things can still go wrong but at least I'll know that for now things are progressing!
Good to hear your symptoms are similar, you just hear so much about people feeling sick from bfp. I didn't in either of my last but I had a lot worse cramps so I'm maybe hoping the lighter symptoms this time around is a good sign.....still can't handle my nips in the shower though 🤣 that's been a thing since day 1.

SureLook · 04/06/2025 15:31

@Miracledust29 I'm definitely better when I'm in work. I'm distracted and focused so I don't think about it as much.
My partner said the same thing. It's crap that we can't be excited anymore cause of the loss.
Will this be your first? We've a two and a half year old DD already.
Oh the sensitive nips are the worst 😂 I had a little bit of nausea this morning but I think it's just hunger!

Miracledust29 · 04/06/2025 15:42

Yeah always better to try and keep yourself focussed on something else!
Aw it's horrible isn't it, my partner's wary as well. Yes this will be our first, I'm 35 so I think that's another added pressure. Fingers crossed for us both it all works out, that'll be a nice age gap between baby and your DD. I take it yours was planned?
Oh I know what you mean I've definitely had that. I was a wake all last night from 2am starving or i get it when I'm out during the day. I wouldn't say it makes me feel sick but I just get really shaky and feel awful until I've eaten something even though I may have eaten lunch/dinner only an hour before!

lifebeginz · 04/06/2025 16:01

I don't wish to derail this thread but I do need a rant.....I adore my MIL. I really do. She is so sweet and lovely and doesn't interfere but if she tells me ONE MORE TIME how she was NEVER ill or sick during any of her 3 pregnancies (while I am quietly hanging on for dear life here at 8+6) I will SCREAM 😖😂

SureLook · 04/06/2025 16:34

@Miracledust29 yes, I know what you mean about age. I'll be 38 in November so I'm conscious of my age too. I conceived DD at 34 and had her just after I turned 35.
Yeah, I definitely didn't want two under two 😂 yes, both pregnancies planned!
I think regular small meals are key. Always bring snacks 😂😂

@lifebeginz oh rant away! That is very frustrating to hear and also just completely unhelpful!

Haha 😅 my mother is the same! “I never got morning sickness or any stretch marks when I was pregnant” and she had five pregnancies, including twins!

Jadeypie · 04/06/2025 16:50

Oh well these MIL and mothers are just very lucky hahaha! Nothing worse when your in the pits and comments like that get said! makes you feel abit like a whimp or a drama queen!

Rant away Ladies sometimes we need it xx

peps2917 · 04/06/2025 16:56

@Miracledust29 I’m also 35! We started trying about 7 months ago and this is my first pregnancy. Also very cautiously optimistic. I had a private scan booked for the 15th which would be 8+1 but I’ve changed it so I can have it this Sunday as I just want to know that it’s growing in the right place and that things are looking ok. One thing that helps me when I have intrusive thoughts is that in reality, I have no reason to think that anything is wrong and it doesn’t sound like you do either. Symptoms are different for everyone. My friend had zero nausea (so jealous!!) but she had fatigue and sore boobs. I have nausea (all day!!) but energy levels are improving and my boobs are not too sure. Also 35 is the new 25 😉😉😉

peps2917 · 04/06/2025 16:59

@lifebeginz my MIL was telling me how much she loved her pregnancy and how amazing she aways felt moments after I told her that I am suffering with nausea and exhaustion I wanted to scream!!! She was recommending me to eat veggies and salads and I was like erm no I literally cannot think of anything worse than a salad right now…. Makes me want to Vom!!

I have an incredible MIL, but who also likes to point out how lucky she was to not have any sickness and ‘breeze’ through her pregnancies when I am hugging the toilet most days 🤣 it’s annoying and not what you want to hear. So rant away! 😊 x
