Hi all
I’m 18 weeks pregnant at 45 with a DD of nearly 3. I thought it would be good to set up a thread for mum’s over 40 (or there abouts) due this summer. It would be great to get support in all things pregnancy related and navigating the early days as an older mum.

Hello! I'm 45, 9 weeks and this will be my first. Due in March.

It took us a long time to get this far with IVF. Part of me wishes it had happened sooner, but the other part feels like this is the right time.

Geriatrixia · 03/08/2025 17:44

Congratulations @MeadowMouse - one of my favourite phrases is “there’s more than one way to live a life” xx

dubkitten · 03/08/2025 18:01

Congratulations and welcome to the thread

FlyRedRobin · 04/08/2025 21:35

Hi all! I'm 45 and 15 weeks pregnant. This is our first after ten gruelling years of IVF. I had never seen the double lines ever in the 10 years so I was so shocked. It is also a donated embryo by my best friend and her husband who had stored the embryos for 7 years. I'm anxious as hell, but praying everyday that it's going to be another good day. Hope everyone is going great. I find MN incredibly depressing for older mums so it's great to find you ladies here!

PurpleTurtleMoose · 04/08/2025 21:55

@FlyRedRobin that's amazing, congratulations! I had experience of failed IVF myself so can only imagine how horrendous 10 years of it must have been. So great that you've finally got your positive!

FlatWhiteAnyone · 08/08/2025 14:48

Hi ladies, could I join your group?
I’ve been following it for a while, hoping one day to join. I have only now confirmed pregnancy blood test after first transfer with DE, so still a bit cautious. I am 43, have 2 much older kids, we are already a mix family.
After 3 ivf cycles and no euploid, lots of miscarriages we are hoping with the help of a kind donor to be able to welcome a child to our family.
Nobody even suspects, we just told older daughter. Terrified of telling anyone in future..

Hi everyone, just came back to update. My little girl was born a week ago today. She was born the day before my 43rd birthday, and we’re both doing great! I’m biased I know, but she’s awesome and we’re feeling very lucky.

Lovely thread! I adopted at 44 after a lot of failed ivf. That was 16 years ago and it's been a great joy. Congratulations to all here lucky enough to be expecting or having had one!

bluebella2 · 19/08/2025 22:58

@DejaMooo ❤️ oh wow congratulations! So glad you're both doing well xx

Hi all

Just to say what a pleasure this thread is. Am 45, and 27 weeks. Between my age and becoming a solo mum by choice, I feel like I almost have to be apologetic for my pregnancy, and honestly, it's not been easy. I've been bombarded with the message from my IVF docs that I had/have a less than 5% chance of having a 'live birth' and I took that to heart - I did two rounds of IVf so I could have no regrets, and was coming to terms with the fact I would not be a Mum. Lo and behold though, here I am!

Baby is small, and I have high blood pressure, so am having extra scans, as well as having an amnio. I spent the first 12 weeks expecting to miscarry. So I am finally just now starting to believe I will have this baby!

Great to you hear everyone else's stories and all the best of luck to you all!

Welcome @EdgyCrab - I am 42 and also a single mom by choice, currently 19w after 4 rounds of IVF but my clinic were amazing and very supportive throughout. Wishing you all the best with the pregnancy

Geriatrixia · 26/08/2025 09:47

I’m also 45 @EdgyCrab - the stats for our age are terrifying aren’t they? 27 weeks is great though, I’m glad they’re keeping a close eye on you. I’m 20 weeks and bracing myself for my third trimester to unfold similarly even though everything is fine right now.

Congratulations on your pregnancies @Geriatrixia and @dubkitten ! I've been lucky to have friends counter the stats doom and gloom with the fact many many healthy babies are born to mums in their 40s, and this thread is extra evidence!

GingerFox2021 · 11/09/2025 21:50

How are you, ladies?
I’m into 18th week, nearly 19th. Only told my 2 bosses and HR girl. I’m showing, but with certain clothing not that visible.
@Geriatrixia have you told your work already? What was their reaction?
@bluebella2 how are things going for you? Very little time left for you, no?

Geriatrixia · 12/09/2025 01:08

I messaged the whole team when I was 20wks - most of them knew me when we lost the twins so they were very, very happy for us which is lovely. As soon as people saw me in person afterwards they were like “how did we not notice?!” 😅 I’m wearing more maternity clothes now, and slowly telling the wider world - I thought it would make it scarier but it’s kind of the opposite, the more I talk about our wee boy the more normal it becomes.

I’m 22 weeks now, and thanks to an anterior placenta I’m only just beginning to feel movement now, but I feel so much better for it ❤️ So far every scan has been absolutely perfect, except my placenta is low lying and thinking about blocking my cervix so we need to keep a close eye on that.

bluebella2 · 12/09/2025 08:48

Hey ladies... not long for me now, I'm booked in for a c section 2 weeks on Monday. Both twins are still breech so highly unlikely they will turn now.

I feel a bit anxious I don't known why! I have my pram here now... it's starting to feel real! X

early stages of natural pregnancy. Have a beautiful 11 yr old already. Super grateful 🙏🏾

Hi

Im 42 with baby no4 but massive gaps between 123-4, my baby was all normal at 20 week scan just shorter femurs, they offered me an amnio which I’ve not had yet as I’m scared of loosing him after multiple losses. Can I ask was your baby measuring small over all or just in parts? I’m having a private NIPT so hoping to get some more answers from that.

Oooh good question, I think some other metrics were also small but most of the 'smallness' was being driven by femurs. Can you not get a NIPT on the health service? Mine was.

Good luck!
