How is everyone doing? Have you started buying anything for the new baby yet?

I've just started, got a couple of the bigger items as it made sense to do it while I can still move about comfortably 😂 Have you started buying?

Groundhogday2025 · 30/05/2025 15:28

I’ve barely bought anything! To be fair I do have a lot of stuff from DD still but the second is just such a different experience. I guess it’s a mix of knowing what you can absolutely live without from previous experience, having some stuff already, and also having no time to stop and think about anything with a toddler keeping you busy.
We are having a boy this time so do need some clothes, but again DD was in and out of the early clothes so fast I’m not really stressing about it. I’ll reuse the white and neutral baby gros in the early days then get more boy clothing once he’s here I think.

How are you getting on @chicke09 ?

Superscientist · 30/05/2025 15:51

We still have all the main things from my daughter.
This week I have sorted through her clothes and removed the super girly clothes and dresses but kept some of the pink and flowers! If dinosaurs were good enough for my daughter flowers can be good enough for my son! Most of the clothes we bought our daughter were boy or neutral so that's been handy.

I've started researching newborn clothes nappies as we sold my daughters newborn nappies to a friend. I can't bring myself to buy anything yet though. I've looked around the supermarkets a few times and put together a few online baskets but walk away without buying. We have enough to get through the first few days and might wait until he's here to buy anything else. My daughter was slow growing so was 5.5 months before she outgrew 0-3 months clothes. If he's a tiddler too I might get more in the smaller sizes if not I might see if I can make do. As we cloth bum we washed 5 -6 days a week so we didn't actually need that many clothes.

MrsH26 · 30/05/2025 16:11

We’ve bought a few bits, mostly clothes. And been very lucky with family generosity buying some furniture.
We also got the pram and car seat, because hubby is being made redundant we need to make sure everything is paid off before he leaves work, I wouldn’t have wanted to buy so early otherwise. But there we go!

hotpotlover · 30/05/2025 18:22

I felt two kicks today.

Had fluttering for a long time, but today they were strong kicks and I saw my belly moving 🥰

We're not going to buy anything - we already have everything from our previous children xxx

chicke09 · 30/05/2025 19:55

I’ve not really bought anything yet either but it’s our second child so not panicking really! Plus we don’t know the gender so will do most of the buying once they’re here.

I've bought so much on Facebook marketplace pram, moses basket, next to me crib, changing table. Bought some white and cream vests and babygrows, bibs, muslins. It's our 3rd baby but with a 6 year gap so we had nothing so trying to get bargains when I can. We are moving into our new build 3 weeks before baby arrives so I'm trying to be organised and I absolutely seeing the baby things in my house makes it so real for our other two kids aswell

MrsH26 · 31/05/2025 09:09

@ThatSnugSwan ive got a real big age gap, so completely starting from scratch and DH is so excited buying bits

MyGardenDaisies · 01/06/2025 07:28

Hey!

I will be 6 months pregnant in less than 2 weeks, time is flying now!!

We are going from 1 to 2 and have pretty much everything, so the main purchases are actually for our toddler or for baby and toddler together like a big wardrobe, double pram adaptors, etc.

Anyone who’s had their 20 week scan then had a telephone call from their hospital to go through their scan?

I’ve got a letter for an appointment but it doesn’t go into detail and now I’m worrying it’s something bad.

Is it just to talk through the scan etc? My baby is big (70th percentile) so maybe it’s regarding possible testing for gestational diabetes.

I have a low lying placenta and was told at the 20 week scan that I need a follow up scan soon.

I want a C Section anyway, so it doesn't worry me too much.

MyGardenDaisies · 04/06/2025 22:11

@EEB1989 I haven’t, they told me that everything was as it should be in the scan room.

did they tell you anything whilst checking you?

They just said he was measuring big - 70th percentile and that I might need a gestational diabetes test.

Hopefully it’s just about that but the letter is so ominous - it makes you spiral!

MrsH26 · 05/06/2025 10:54

@EEB1989 we only test for GDM if there’s a sudden increase in growth to over the 90th centile. Other trusts may well be different though

fingers crossed all will be well.

Thank you. The appointment is next Tuesday so not too long to wait.

I called MAC yesterday as I was really panicked by the letter and the midwife said the only thing she could see was that his stomach was measuring larger than expected but that can happen with GD.

Fingers crossed it’s just that. My sister had GD with her baby so I’m expecting me to have it too.

I hope you get the answers @EEB1989

Hows everyone doing? I'm struggling with heartburn and nausea, awaiting a call from the GP for advice

MrsH26 · 06/06/2025 18:40

@Superscientist that doesn’t sound fun!

We’re good here. Supposed to have an anterior placenta but this babe is a proper wriggler, so that’s reassuring at the moment 🥰 especially as my uterine artery Doppler was pants, so that wasn’t great news.

and we’re viability tomorrow! It’s going to go quickly now, I think

Ugh the heartburn is awful isn’t it 😣🤢🤢 as if trying to sleep isn’t hard enough right now haha

Superscientist · 06/06/2025 19:57

Thanks @MrsH26 and @chicke09 I've got omperazole prescribed for the heartburn and can restart my xonvea antiemetic. I'm hoping it helps, I have used the last few xonvea a couple of times recently and have had better days. The heartburn is so much worse when I'm nauseous and the makes me sick so it's not been a fun combination. Today has been awful it's been 15 minutes of being useful 2h of lying down.

I have an anterior placenta too @MrsH26 but not sure I've not much difference in movements compared to when I was pregnant with my daughter and had a posterior placenta. I'm 24 weeks on Sunday it's the next milestone isn't it!

MyGardenDaisies · 08/06/2025 20:54

Hello!

I am am now officially in 3rd trimester!! How’s everyone doing?

MrsH26 · 09/06/2025 20:38

@MyGardenDaisies
Lovely little milestone. 24+2 here and feeling pretty good, sleeping well and enjoying the calm before the storm, before all the risk factors start kicking in!

Been told to expect an earlier baby due to risk factors, current aim is to make it September and 36+2! Would love to get to 38wks though. I’ve come to terms that IOL is most likely though before I’d like it

ThatSnugSwan · 10/06/2025 07:58

25 weeks, have my gestational diabetes test today. 3rd baby but it's the first time having this test

Lou98x · 10/06/2025 19:29

Been quiet over here - ready for a flurry of appointments in the next couple of weeks when I hit 28 weeks. Had my appointment with the placenta specialist moved and then cancelled and then booked again so that’s fun!

This pregnancy is just flying by - I think too much of my brain is occupied by DS at the minute, but I’m trying hard to make sure DD has some clothes for when she’s born, and, ideally, a name! 🤣

Superscientist · 10/06/2025 19:35

I was caught out by my 25 week appointment being this week, it's come around so quickly!

i have a daughter and am having a son although handily most of the clothes I bought our daughter were "boy" clothes so I don't need to top up too much. I can't bring myself to buy anything yet though, I've been in a few shops but put everything back on the shelf. We've managed to identify a lot of names we don't like but not much luck on ones we do like and don't already know half a dozen children with the name already.
