Creating this as a space to continue the Feb 2025 chat - quite frankly it's all starting to feel very, very real right now!

@SBelfast no worries about fb. I deleted my account long ago, but got a new one while trying to adopt a rescue dog. Not publishing anything on my profile, just checking fb pages and commenting the minimum.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about mental health. I'm feeling a little bit better but I have my good days and my bad days (bad nights mostly as baby is very unsettle) and lots of crying. I hope it improves soon as my mood has been terrible since baby was born (sleep deprivation is the main culprit) and my partner and I had more arguments in this month than in our entire relationship. So, I hope he's not going to leave me, hahaha 😅.

Btw, anyone in the room with a baby with silent reflux? I have been reading about it and I think that mine may have it.... Any piece of advice or what to do? Initially I thought her unsettle was because of colic but after giving her medication for several days I start thinking that maybe it was silent reflux.

SBelfast · 24/02/2025 20:43

@Piluka haha I've an Instagram account which isn't personal but primarily for dog content and art!
We have a baby with suspected reflux. Initially midwife said silent reflux but he spews up a fair bit so I think that makes it more standard reflux 🤔
We got an antacid prescription from GP it's hard to get into him it's a tablet you've to cut then dissolve and feed to him with a little water. Think it's helping but hard to know how much some days still bad. Asides from that after feeding we try to keep him upright for about 20 mins after and burp him well. He's been really hard to burp but that seems to be improving as he gets older. We also have a next to me type cot that can be elevated at one end so his head is up higher than feet and when he's in his moses basket we prop it up at one end.
Symptoms he has - writhing about uncomfortable at times, spewing up after feeding sometimes shortly after sometimes 30-60 mins after, making terrodactyl type noises, lots of sounds of throat clearing, coughing, sneezing. Usually always worse at night. We thought it was colic also initially as he seemed to have trouble passing wind/burping but that was short lived and he doesn't cry for ages on end had a few crying spells.

Piluka · 24/02/2025 21:09

@SBelfast thanks for the info. Yuna ticks most of the symptoms you described. I like the terodactil noises... You made me laugh at it. My mum calls it 'the exorcist' s girl noise" We were quite concerned with that noise in particular but I wasn't sure to call the GP and being laugh at and being told it was "normal" I should do it, though.

Hhdxx · 25/02/2025 10:03

@Piluka @SBelfast I wonder if my baby has reflux?!
Every time we bottle feed him, he literally choked and gasps for air. It's horrible. It seems like he stops breathing for a couple of seconds. We're going to the docs today because of it. X

SBelfast · 25/02/2025 10:37

@Piluka we also had exorcist noises last night 😣spewed up several times and his throat just kept getting more hoarse, sounds awful this morning 😥
Couldn't tell you what's different from the night before to last night that made his reflux worse. Nothing really changed with him or with me in terms of what I'd eaten etc. I guess it's just their immature digestive systems!
@Hhdxx Hope the doctors goes well and they can offer some advice and comfort. Let us know :)
Could be reflux seems a whole variety of systems. Ru sometimes chokes on breast milk and gasps for air. One of the midwives said it could be a fast let down and to compress the breast to slow flow of milk, I also read can pump a little at start to help with it. For bottle feeding and them taking it to quick for them to handle well I read certain types of bottles are better than others to pace feeding. Couldn't tell you what types though! We have tomee tippee anti colic ones and they seem decent (only ones we have tried though so no perspective). How many weeks old is your little one now? They are bound to have a bit more of a challenge with being 3 weeks early, that's what we have found anyway. It is improving though- long may it continue - we are 5 weeks old on Wed!

Well I thought I was going to end up with a March baby but our little boy was born via emergency c-section this morning after a very dramatic 9 hours but he’s here safe and sound that’s the main thing 😍

superj21 · 25/02/2025 16:59

Congratulations @Pepsix ! Hope you're recovering well and the wee man is doing well ❤️

Kumquat89 · 25/02/2025 17:58

@Pepsix congratulations that’s great news. I wish you a speedy recovery.

SBelfast · 25/02/2025 21:20

Congratulations @Pepsix sorry to hear you had what sounds like a very hard time but that's great all is well now! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Piluka · 26/02/2025 07:26

@Pepsix congratulations!!! 🎉🎉❤️❤️🎊🎊💐💐💐 Happy to hear that in the end everything went well!!

@SBelfast yesterday I talk to a pharmacist (as GP appointment was going to be in several days, as it wasn't urgent. At the end of the day the baby is not in danger.) and she recommended me the Gripe water. She actually came back from mat leave so, it was very helpful tbh. As the baby has refluxes (sometimes kind of vomit from the amount she spits) she ruled out silent reflux and pointed at the colic as the main culprit of Yuna's discomfort. We are using them from last afternoon and I have to say that last night she slept a little bit better with less discomfort = less terodactil/excorising noises. Have you ever tried that? I'm not sure if anyone else is using them.

@Hhdxx hope doctors find what your baby needs to get well and let us know what the doc says. 😊

ThisLimeDeer · 26/02/2025 15:20

@Piluka thank you for the recommendation as my baby is also showing similar symptoms so we might give it a go, it’s the worst at night at the moment.

Onthedouble123 · 27/02/2025 04:52

Congratulations @Pepsixhope you're doing well and the drama wasn't too traumatic.

Baby boy double also arrived on 25.2.25 🩵🩵

I didn't find the section quite as smooth and relaxing as I'd hoped but he got here totally safely and is doing absolutely fine.

We got home last night. I've made the error of forgetting painkillers overnight already! So I'm just now setting myself a 24 hour schedule so they overlap all day and night. Going to try and stick religiously to that!

Hope anyone still waiting doesn't have long to go. And everyone already in the trenches is doing okay! Xx

jaybeez · 27/02/2025 08:15

Congratulations to all the babies that have arrived and sorry to hear some have had some difficult births.

Any second time mum's experiencing a bit of a regression with their first? My 2.5 year old has been reliably potty trained for a couple of months now, but since baby has arrived has have been having a lot of accidents. I'm hoping this is just part of a normal reaction to her little sister coming home?

ThisLimeDeer · 27/02/2025 08:15

Congratulations @Onthedouble123 !!

I wonder whether we will have any more February babies today and tomorrow or whether they are now coming in March!!

Pepsix · 27/02/2025 09:27

Thank you everyone 💙 hope everyone else is doing well ☺️

I was due to be induced yesterday 26th but Monday morning started with contractions spaced between 7-20 minutes throughout the day. I went to bed and woke up at half 11 after having 3 tightenings in 40 minutes, got up out of bed and felt a little “gush” so checked my pad and it was a fair amount of yellow discharge/mucus so we rang PAU and went down at 12am.
They checked me over and I was only 1cm dilated but the test came back positive for my waters going but was allowed to go home and told to ring back at 17:30 to potentially be induced - got home at 2am.
By 3am I couldn’t settle in bed as the tightenings were coming every 2-3 minutes but I persevered until 5am but I then got another “gush” which was a darker golden/brown so I rang PAU and was asked to go again….
Got to PAU around 6am and they checked over my pad and were pretty certain it was meconium leaking through my waters so hooked me up to the monitor to check baby over and examined me and I was 3cm by this point - everything after this is such a blur.
I was told there was going to be some more people coming into the room but not to worry - within 30 seconds there was at least 8 people around telling me babies heart has dropped to 50bpm and I was being rushed down to theatre- got into theatre and babies heart recovered to a normal rate so I was admitted to birthing suite to be monitored.
I was given an injection to space out my contractions to give me and baby a bit of a rest - not even an hour later I was left in my room while they gave an update to the Doctors, babies heart rate dropped again so in burst more people and I’m examined again and have only dilated 1cm in the space of 3 hours so its decided to get baby out asap due to his heart rate and the meconium (9:35am by this point)
I had told my partner to go and get some breakfast at 9:15 and so he wasn’t there and we couldn’t get him on the phone so a nurse has to run to the canteen to get him. Luckily he made it in time as baby was out by 10:02.

Hopefully this makes sense to others as like I said the whole thing has been a blur so I will have no doubt missed things out 😬

I am struggling with the fact I can’t do much for myself as I’m in quite a bit of pain but I know it will get better and his little face makes it all worth it 🥹

Slightly different here as my DS is 4 but we've had some regression on things, including needed us to escort him to the toilet and stand and wait where as before he'd happily take himself off and wouldn't dream of wanting us to go with him at home.

Also he wants us to pick him up more than before probably as we're always holding the baby.

Yes, we're exactly the same with our 2.5yo, a whole spare of accidents shortly after the baby came home. We have her some bare bum time and lots of extra attention at other times and it has been better for the last week. So frustrating though isn't it! Hers always seem to happen on the sofa 😭

jaybeez · 27/02/2025 10:54

Thanks @elb1504 and @MaiaForEmperor - reassuring to know others are having similar! Will try some bare bum time and see if that helps!

Gosh @Pepsix hope you're okay that sounds really stressful ❤️ really glad little one is fine and hope you're being well looked after

SBelfast · 28/02/2025 05:55

@Piluka how's it going now? We haven't tried gripe water, but have just started using infacol. Much easier to give than colief but works differently. Decided to use it after he was very fussy and uncomfortable yesterday and last night and couldn't get any wind out of him and it seems to be helping already touchwood. He's burping and farting anyway. Who would have thought there would be a day when I'd be so excited for burps and farts haha.

@Onthedouble123 I didn't have a great c-section experience either, mine was planned and I know lots of people have positive experiences so have been feeling a bit meh about it all now! Sorry yours wasn't great either.

@Pepsix oh my goodness, that sounds so stressful and exhausting!! I'm sure it will take a while to process it all. Hope you are enjoying lots of cuddles with baby and can get lots of rest when they rest to recover <3

My C-section was not as smooth as I expected either. It was my second and I'd really forgotten all the pushing and tugging involved and it seemed to go on for ages. Towards the end when they were putting me back together it made me feel physically sick.

The moment the baby was out was amazing though - like taking off a heavy backpack and suddenly she was there!

SBelfast · 28/02/2025 10:54

@Mamma173 I was so nervous I opted for something to help me relax which helped with the shoving about! At one point I was worrying they were going to hurt the baby when he was already out and on my chest for skin to skin because they kept pushing through the curtain. I had junior doctors doing mine though, nearly died when I first met them 😂to be fair apart from that the rest of it was as far as I know fine. I'd not have coped well without the drug to relax and I asked for 3 doses! My issue was more the anaesthetist, he was nice but it really sore getting the canula in and then the spinal was not good. He had to stop and try again. First time despite the local it was very sore and he told me he was hitting bone and nerves (no shit sherlock lol). Second time he obviously just got a better spot and it was in super quick and I didn't feel much at all. I'd had a spinal tap before and I didn't feel much at all with that either so I think was just unlucky with the spot he went for initially. I'd gotten really worked up with the pain and fear from the 5 mins of him trying the first spot that it just all got off to a bad start. Then I also just felt uncomfortable with him and the others for getting upset and felt like they were annoyed which was probably in my head but still. Our baby came out crying but then grunting so they commented on that and he ended up being taken to neonatal after a few hours for a few days. It's all a bit of a surreal blur now but it makes me feel sad thinking back on it.
Touchwood he's doing well now! :)

QuantumPanic · 01/03/2025 07:06

Hello. Tough night last night. Think I managed about 3 hours of sleep in 30 minute increments. 😴 My baby does not seem to require a huge amount of downtime. 🤔 Also tmi, but having to wait for the shrieking to stop before going to the toilet is wreaking havoc with my bowels. I've never had such painful poos! 😭

QuantumPanic · 01/03/2025 08:25

Didn't finish my moan! Husband is sick, baby is gaining weight very slowly (how can this be when she feels so heavy/holding her head up during feeds is destroying my wrists!) so we're back to the midwives every few days to monitor. She also has oral thrush and poos whenever I put a clean nappy on. 🤷 (She does a hilarious grinch-style involuntary smile whenever she soils herself. It's so cute.) Episiotomy is healing slowly - have been prescribed a second antibiotic. (Really pleased we get free prescriptions - I've never spent so much time in the pharmacy as I have in the past two weeks!)

It's all very manageable/quite funny during the day (I'm so grateful for dishwashers, washing machines, online supermarkets, next day delivery and all the fab support we've had! It must have been so much more difficult in the past.) but at 2am I'm much less chipper about it.

How's everyone else doing? Please share your gripes/victories!
