Hi everyone, just found out I'm pregnant today at 9dpo, I wanted to make a thread for people to join who will be due in September 2025!

Is anyone else having lower back pain? I do have a sore lower back generally, but can usually control it with good posture and exercise.

I'm still in the gym 3x per week, but my lower back is just constantly feeling under pressure and aching. I had it a bit with my last pregnancy, but not quite so much. I'm wondering if it's because I'm on progesterone and making extra relaxin. It literally feels like the back of my pelvis will slide off my spine 😆

thismotherhoodthing · 27/01/2025 17:36

@KittyFantastica no but good on you for being in the gym 3x a week! I don't know how you can do it, I literally can't face any exercise even though I know it's good to keep going. Hoping I can start going again in a couple of weeks

MyGardenDaisies · 27/01/2025 15:23

Oh already! Have you already had the booking appointment ?

I have the booking appointment tomorrow, but have already had a phone appointment with my midwife and she referred me for my scan off the back of that.
Have you got a booking appointment scheduled?

ThisOrangeCat · 27/01/2025 18:11

Eliffant · 27/01/2025 15:03

@MrsH26 @Aandk64 @jjj2024 I had my scan this morning and everything is fine. I saw the little heartbeat 😊

Congratulations! It's such a relief, isn't it?

Fluffydino21 · 27/01/2025 18:20

I don’t know whether other women are just made of much tougher stuff than me but I’m really struggling with this first trimester 😔 and only 6.5 weeks in.

It’s the feeling increasingly unwell EVERY DAY for about 4 weeks now. I don’t know how people work, I’m really struggling to do more than half a day’s work each day and falling really behind.

And then I feel really guilty for feeling this way because maybe I should just be grateful for being pregnant!

Melusina123 · 27/01/2025 19:14

I'm still not mentally in a very good place, feeling quite sad/stressed about everything, I can't help but fixate on getting a bad news at my next scan on Friday, even though everything looked good a week ago.

Have been a bit quiet on here as I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer with all the lovely scan good news coming in. Congrats @MyGardenDaisies @ThisOrangeCat @Eliffant and anyone else I missed!

@Fluffydino21 tbh I felt ill for 2 weeks, then threw up twice and took myself straight off to the GP for anti-nausea medication. I know some people are much tougher than that and soldier through much worse symptoms, but I was basically bed bound for two days, I was so nauseous and I could only eat ritz crackers and dried apricots, even though I didn't vomit very much. Anyway long story short I got put on Xonvea and it's really helped. Morning sickness is awful and if it's stopping you doing things you need to do then you can reach out to your GP, there's a few things they can try.

emsaussiegirl · 27/01/2025 20:30

I'm 6+3, haven't really had any nausea yet, but have been really exhausted and cramping most days. Does anyone have any suggestions to relieve the cramping? I don't want to really be taking paracetamol every day, and Google (I know it can't always be trusted) says I shouldn't put a hot water bottle directly on my stomach.

First time pregnancy, so it's all new to me, excited and anxious at the same time, keen to hit the 12 week mark and to have a Midwife appointment to put my mind at rest, but mines not for another 5 weeks!

MyGardenDaisies · 27/01/2025 21:46

@ThisOrangeCat yes, my booking appointment is in a week. :)

Thanks, I've not really had any symptoms thus far, so I feel pretty normal still. Fatigue got me yesterday and I had to have a lie down at lunch time. Then I was so tired after work I didn't go to the gym, and I sit down for 8 hours a day, so I can see the gym motivation already tapering off, haha.

Eliffant · 28/01/2025 09:57

Is anyone else fed up of food/eating? I need to eat every few hours to stop me feeling sick but I don't want to eat anything and nothing tastes good! It's just getting tedious

MyGardenDaisies · 28/01/2025 10:19

@Eliffant I just feel unsatiable all the time! And hot meals make me queazy, so I have just been munching on snacks all day which makes me even more bloated 🫠

I gained a lot of weight with my first, so now am determined to keep an eye on the scale and track calories on MFP to keep myself within a normal range

LimeStork · 28/01/2025 11:39

Hi ladies! Firstly, congratulations, what a lovely thread! I am due 30th Sept/1st Oct so just scraping in here :) Hoping I could get some advice from you all on when to schedule my first early scan - bit of background: I had a miscarriage a few months ago where I saw a heartbeat at 7+4, got another scan at 8+4 where I was told the heartbeat stopped around 7+6 (!!). I am now in a pickle on do I schedule my scan at 7w first or to (try) and wait until 8w? I’m both excited and anxious, would love to hold out as long as I can. Any suggestions on what you would do? ❤️

Melusina123 · 28/01/2025 11:44

@LimeStork Welcome and congrats! On early scans, I do think if you can hold out until 8w that is probably more meaningfully reassuring. I had a consultant tell me that most genetically abnormal pregnancies ‘run out of steam’ by 8w, and I myself have had 2 MMCs where the embryo died around 8+1. According to Tommy’s, if you see a heartbeat around 6w that’s a 78% chance of successful pregnancy (this seems v low to me though), whereas around 8w it’s a 98% chance. So if you can hold out I do think it’s better, but everyone is different on this!

Ru19 · 28/01/2025 12:27

@Melusina123 that's really helpful to know thank you!

Thank you this is really helpful. I had no idea it was still so high risk by that point though. So even at 6 weeks you still have almost a 1 in 4 chance of miscarrying?

Thank you. I think I'll try my GP for that medication. I'm self-employed so can't really get signed off sick or pass things onto colleagues so it's really starting to stress me out!

Sorry to hear you don't feel in a good place though

MyGardenDaisies · 28/01/2025 13:18

That’s really sad that so many people experience losses but I would try to look at it that the odds are in your favour.

I do get an anxiety wobble here and there and then I put my personal info in that reassurer link someone posted a few pages back and the 91%+ all good really does put my mind at ease.

@Fluffydino21 sorry i should say this 78% is among recurrent miscarriers - a key nuance I forgot! Odds are way way better than this at 6 weeks overall, I maybe 10% chance of miscarriage if you see a HB at 6 weeks all else equal? Source is here: https://www.tommys.org/baby-loss-support/miscarriage-information-and-support/miscarriage-statistics .

There are lots of medications, cyclizine (an antihistimine) is often first line. B6 has quite good evidence. Xonvea is B6 plus a different antihistimine, it’s still under patent so more ££ but it’s in the NICE/RCOG guidelines as a first-line treatment option.

I am so sorry for your losses, praying for sticky beans for everyone!! ❤️ Trying with everything in me to stay positive, keep my mind distracted & keep repeating positive pregnancy affirmations. Have you any tips on what’s getting you through this first stage?

That was so helpful, thank you for your reply. I’m going to try and wait so I have booked a scan in for 8+1 as it would be past the dates of my previous. Will see how anxious I am before that and just book a private scan!

I also got told that the GP can prescribe Cyclogest progesterone pessaries. Has anyone been told to take that?

Hope you are all doing well 🤍🤍

Honestly, lucozade and anti-nausea medication are getting me through the first stage atm. But the advice I’m aware of and not following is: try to be in the moment (“today I am pregnant”) and find other things to take up your time so you don’t just spend the whole time thinking/worrying.

On cyclogest, sometimes GPs will prescribe it but sometimes they want something from Obs and Gynae first - I am on cyclogest, got prescribed via the Early Pregnancy Unit. Be aware though that a big study run by Tommy’s found that it only really helps in cases where the person has had 2 MCs before and has early pregnancy bleeding. In the majority of cases it doesn’t do much so if you can’t get someone to prescribe it, don’t stress too much (Source: https://www.tommys.org/baby-loss-support/miscarriage-information-and-support/pregnancy-after-miscarriage/taking-progesterone-early-pregnancy#How-effective-progesterone-treatment ).

Taking progesterone in early pregnancy

Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy.

KittyFantastica · 28/01/2025 16:50

Hi @LimeStork and welcome.

I've had two early losses and a second trimester loss, so solidarity and I'm sorry for your previous loss.

For me, there isn't a lot I can look to for comfort as I've been on the wrong sides of all the websites and stats thus far, and once you've been through it once in the second trimester, it's more likely to happen again, so I have to ignore those websites that give % of success rates as they don't apply. I've been the 1 in 4, the 1 in 30, the 1 in 100 and potentially 1 in 30,000 too, so I get the desire for a scan and some reassurance.

I'm consultant lead from day one this time and have been prescribed progesterone (though my progesterone levels are good, it will be more helpful later on in the pregnancy to prevent my womb from contracting too soon, hopefully). I think it's usually EPU or consultants who prescribe it, but that's because my GP won't have anything to do with pregnancy, so it might be different for you!

I'm booked in for two scans - one at 7 weeks for viability and one at 9 weeks for development. This is due to a previous MMC, but 7-9 weeks give a good indication. We knew at 7 weeks in our MMC pregnancy, despite our baby having a heartbeat, that things weren't looking good as the heartbeat was slow and it was measuring 10 days behind. A scan at 8 weeks would have shown the same, but most people like to wait for 8 weeks due to the stats that say miscarriage is less likely then.

Whenever you decide to go, I hope it brings you the comfort you need ❤️

That’s crazy I had no idea that many would end in a loss still! I’ve booked a scan for between 7-8 weeks but I’m considering moving it now!

LimeStork · 28/01/2025 17:33

@KittyFantastica Thank you for your reply. I am so so sorry to hear about your losses, it’s awful being part of the loss club. Totally understandable that sometimes stats just don’t help, at time may even give false hope. Just trying to stay positive until there actually is something worry about which is so much easier said than done isn’t it!

+@Melusina123 I hope everything goes smoothly for you on Friday and time stops dragging on so slowly until then. It’s funny how when you actually want to keep busy, my mind goes blank!

Thanks for sharing your progesterone experience both - I will bring this up in my next appointment.

xxx

NB I was wrong about this, the 78% is for recurrent miscarriers - for all pregnancies it's 10% chance of MC if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks. Sorry to be spreading fake news!!
