I found out last night I’m pregnant!!!!!

My boyfriend and I have been “loosely” trying since Boxing Day last year. I say loosely because I came off the pill, have been tracking periods/when we’ve had sex/ovulation etc on Flo, but we’ve not been hell bent on having sex on ovulation days etc, or taking special vitamins or anything like that. We’ve been together just under three years and I’m 35, we would’ve maybe liked a bit more time together as a two, but also aware of my age etc etc.

I freaked out so much last night, I couldn’t stop laughing and saying “what do we do? What do we do?” over and over. I feel so excited!

Also feel slightly nervous about the amount of parfait/patè I’ve eaten the last couple of weeks at Christmas meals… oh and Brie- I had Brie last weekend. My mind is just in overdrive! I also had a few drinks a couple of weeks ago. We did a clearblue test that said I’ve been pregnant for 3+ weeks. I checked my Flo app and we had sex on November 20th and that was my most fertile day, so going to heavily assume that was my conception day.

So… what am I actually supposed to do now? Make a doctors appointment? Contact a private provider? Seek out a midwife? Literally no idea!!!! I’m just really overwhelmed and excited!

Congratulations! It is exciting getting that positive test isn’t it.
Firstly I’d try to work out how far along you are - so count how many weeks from the first day of your last period (the doctors and midwives will all want to know this). Then depending on your area you may be able to do a self referral online to your local midwife, or you may have to contact your GP for them to refer you. My area does self referral after 6 weeks, so it’s good to know how many weeks along you are. If you have a Facebook group for your area or a local mums and babies type Facebook group then maybe do an anonymous post asking how it works where you are. I always see people posting this kind of question in my local one.
Don’t worry about the food and drink you consumed at such an early stage. So many people eat and drink stuff before they know they’re pregnant and it does no harm.
And then enjoy your little Christmas surprise! 🧡

Oh and also start taking some pregnancy vitamins or at least folic acid and vitamin D!

Mielbee · 21/12/2024 14:53

Hi, just squeaking in to this group - I tested positive a couple of days ago and my due date looks like 30th August at the moment. It would be my second and my older child is 2.5.

I've been looking back at what I tracked for my first pregnancy and first noticed nausea at 5+5 that time so am looking forward to that 😅. I'm not sure how similar people's pregnancies are - interested to hear from others on that!

Thank you so much- this is so helpful!
Christmas surprise sounds so cute as well 🥰♥️

Ive just taken your advice and found an online referral form for my local hospital.

So as for the weeks, I think we conceived on 20th Nov, my last period finished on 11th Nov. So I thought that would mean I’m 4 weeks pregnant, but from my last period it’s 6 weeks, and my Flo app is telling me 6! I don’t really understand that but oh well! I can’t believe I’ve been pregnant all this time and had no idea- I’ve felt nothing. Thanks for the reassurance on the patè as well, will be hard to now stay away from it on Christmas Day!

Row23 · 21/12/2024 15:10

@CandyCane457 the dating thing is weird - technically for the first two weeks of pregnancy you’ve not even conceived! Then by the time most people do a test they’re already at least 4 weeks into pregnancy. But, the great thing is that it means you’re now already 6 weeks down, so only 7.5 ish months left!

CandyCane457 · 21/12/2024 15:15

@Row23 that’s so true- I’m ahead of the game! Thanks for your help 🥰

Has anyone experienced “twinging” in their stomach? I don’t know how to describe it - it’s not period cramps but more feels like sharper stretching pain. It’s a bit like I’ve done too many abdo crunches except I notice it both when I am sitting still and when I am rolling over in bed or twisting. It comes and goes and has been like this for a week or so. Obviously googling it returns mostly discussions on period cramping, miscarrying or ectopics whereas this feels more evenly distributed and upper abdomen. It’s uncomfortable! Is this wind?! I am REALLY bloated, like struggling to do up my normal trousers at 7 weeks bloated, so wondering if it is all to do with that.

My nausea has massively ramped up this week. I have also started vomiting and today I can barely move 😭 I tried Cyclizine in one of my previous pregnancies which did nothing so GP has put me on Prochlorperazine which so far has also not helped

It didn't help me either, just switched to xonvea and it's helped. The pregnancy sickness support charity were amazing, you can WhatsApp them during the week. They said it can be a bit trial and error but you should know within 48 hrs of starting one

TinkRose · 21/12/2024 16:50

I’ve just checked Badger Notes and my booking appointment has been put on there - for some reason the app doesn’t give me any notifications so I just have to keep logging in to check it. It’s showing 3 consecutive appointments 30 minutes after the other - is that cause it’ll be a 1hr30 appointment or is there some weird glitch?

HA22 · 21/12/2024 19:15

@CandyCane457 congratulations!! if your last period ended on the 11th and i'm assuming it started 7 days earlier ish so your LMP would be 4/11/24 and going off that you're 6 + 5 so almost 7 weeks! xx

i'm not sure if it's a glitch but your first appointment does take a while with all the questions, height and weight, blood pressure, blood test etc x
how did you get your account activation phrase for badger notes x

Oh wow- thanks for the intel! I always thought I was pretty clued up on things like this but until I got Flo and learnt all about fertile days etc, I realised there was so much I didn’t know! It’s so weird to think this time yesterday I had no idea I was pregnant and now suddenly I’m 7 weeks in!

I Googled my trust + pregnancy self-referral, the link is available that way - not sure if it will be the same for all areas?

I had this earlier today! 5 weeks pregnant, due 23rd august 2025 :) I twisted over to lay on my other side and this really sharp twinge went on my right hip/side area. Made me gasp out loud and my bf started panicking 😂 was really sharp for a while then went away. Google says it's normal as your womb is just stretching

AHBM2020 · 21/12/2024 21:50

Mals2022 · 20/12/2024 09:42

Can i join?👋🏻 got a positive yesterday, i'm only 3+5 so still early days but i'm having a lot of cramping today which is making me paranoid. Did anyone else have a lot of cramping at this stage? I feel so bloated as well. This is my second but i didnt find out that i was pregnant until 4+ weeks last time and dont remember this much cramping.

I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, really faint lines that didn't get any stronger. And the worst cramps! As bad as period cramps and they were constant. I was told not to worry and that cramps were normal as my womb was stretching. I'm now 5 weeks, and still cramping, but my test lines are fully dark and I feel less worried! My cramps are milder, with sharper ones here and there. I was told not to worry unless it's really severe cramping or bleeding.

@SunshineDaisies24 I’m also exhausted. At least it’s Christmas so everyone is winding down!

This week my nausea has gone but been replaced by massive hunger. Everything I’ve read says this is typical in trimester 2, but I’m absolutely starving now. I’ve always had a high metabolism and eat a lot/often generally, but this is another level. Scared of putting on too much weight too soon but I’ve developed a Jacob’s cracker addiction.

I'm only 5 weeks and I'm starving. It's like I skip the hungry stage, and go straight to ravenous. Usually I can make it to lunchtime without eating, now I've gotta eat breakfast n snacks before my lunch.

Nikkix86 · 21/12/2024 22:50

I'm also hungry constantly! I just got my partner to cook me some broccoli in butter because that's what I'm craving right now 😅

Moosey898 · 21/12/2024 13:22

@Peanut91 oh noooo how far along are you now?

I'm 7+1 today. I was sick right up to birth in both previous pregnancies so don't expect this to be any different but it feels like such a long way to go

Moosey898 · 22/12/2024 12:39

@Peanut91 I really hope that this one ends up being different. The sickness really sucks.

Thanks. So do I. I had really difficult pregnancies too and I had hospital admissions in both of them so I'm just hoping this one can be a bit more smooth sailing. My two are a bit older (6yrs and 3yrs) and are both in full time school/preschool which at least is a bit easier

That's good at least they aren't toddling around you all day 😂 my last pregnancy the sickness was horrific and I was so dehydrated. This time nowhere near as bad.
But this is my 4th pregnancy and yet to make it out of the first trimester so I have no clue what will happen if this one does, no idea how I'll feel!
