@wouldlovearoast That sounds so traumatic, I’m so sorry you went through that. How amazing you’ve conceived again. How long do you have until your scan?

Thankfully I haven’t had any pains that severe, just lots of little twinges which were originally feeling more one sided but I’ve felt them on both more recently and I haven’t had any bleeding so I think I’m just anxious. I have a scan a week today which I’m counting down the days to!

redvelvet7 · 11/12/2024 09:20

Yessss I’ve also got insomnia. Although I still woke up about 6 times last night, really thirsty and also needing the toilet, so was a repetitive cycle!! Currently sipping my decaf coffee at work trying to convince myself it’s going to wake me up haha

Moolahdog · 11/12/2024 09:32

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. Would love to join please as I was in a group with my daughter and it honestly gave me so much support/tips! Even better than google 🤭

My tests are progressing! A few months ago I had an early miscarriage so feeling nervous but so good to see some progression.

I think I’ll be due around 22nd August, but with my daughter I went 10 days over so who knows.

@DragonflyRuby thankyou, spoke to midwife this morning and they have got me in for an early scan on the 23rd December because of my history, now just testing every day like an absolute mad woman! I did have some brown spotting but its stopped and midwife said that's nothing to worry about. She said just keep out for blood and severe pain in one side, which I haven't had. Try not to worry and sending you all the positive vibes!

Congratulations to all the new joiners!

does anyone else have insomnia as a symptom? I’m only 4+2 and the last few nights I’ve been awake for 2/3 hours in the night even though I’m so tired I can’t sleep! I don’t remember having this in my last pregnancy this early, I thought it came at the end 🤣 xx

Yes 😭 thankfully I work from home so can rest but frustrating to be tired all day and then wide awake at night.

Hi all - congrats to all!

I tested positive last week and am very excited for my first baby. EDD according to online calculator would be 10-11 August, currently 5 + 3.

I am based in london and am struggling to understand how to pick a hospital (I have self referred to Royal Free as it's the closest to me but then also trying St Mary's given how bad the ratings are for RF maternity). How did you pick?

Also struggling to obtain an appointment (at either). Following up with both it seems I might not get my first appointment with the midwife until 10 weeks pregnant... is this normal? Is there a way to speed up the process?

I am also keen to do a private scan before then but conscious there might be no doctor oversight at the private scan either... I am left a little baffled as to how relaxed it all seems?

Any advice welcome - thanks!

Congrats! I’m also in London. Yes, your first midwife appointment will be around the 9 week mark and then your first scan around the 12 week mark. This is completely normal. I just picked a hospital close to me that I know my friends have had very good experiences at. My closest hospital is North Middlesex but I definitely won’t be going there! 😂

I’ve booked for a private scan for the 23rd when I will be 8 weeks.

Epli · 11/12/2024 17:43

Hello! Just got a positive one. Due date 16 of Aug :)

I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle, so I am a bit cautious about this one.

I picked a hospital based on experience of friends, but it's so hard to say as very few will have had experience of giving birth at multiple hospitals in the same area!

I would go with convenience for now and you can change later if you really want to. I went further away for my first and ended up with Consultant led care and spent so long travelling there.

It's normal to not have a midwife appointment until 8-10 weeks - and that's just a booking appointment where they ask you a lot of medical history questions, there's no scan at that appointment. There's a good overview of the appointments and scans you typically have on the NHS website

mickey1121 · 11/12/2024 18:02

Hi all - congratulations to everybody!

I tested positive last week after our first round of IVF, my due date is showing as the 17th August!

This is my second child so really excited but still so nervous as it took a long time to get here.

I am however SO bloated, like extremely bloated but only at the top of my stomach, has anyone else suffered with this? I didn't have any symptoms in my first pregnancy until after 12 weeks so worrying if this is normal. It's so strange as the bottom of my belly is soft and normal and the top literally sticks out and is so hard! I looked 6 months pregnant yesterday

Hello! Just got a positive one. Due date 16 of Aug :)

I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle, so I am a bit cautious about this one.

Hi Epli - I’m in exactly the same boat as you. My due date is 17th August 2025 and I had a chemical in September around this time so I feel super nervous. I’ve also been having on and off spotting, although my lines have been progressing (with my CP, they never got darker). How are things going with you?

TheCoralFish · 12/12/2024 08:04

Hi to all the newcomers. I’m looking for some advice from you folks as last night I noticed a small amount of brownish discharge on toilet paper when wiping. It sent me spiralling a bit although I know that it can be really normal. I’m 7 weeks today and haven’t seen anything like this since my last period.. I don’t know if I’m now just imagining it/ freaking myself out but couldn’t sleep much last night obsessing over every little tummy cramp or twinge in my back. Would you folks ring your GP about this or is that totally over dramatic ? Would they say or do anything about just a small amount of light brownish (not red) discharge or just tell me to wait and see if I see anything else ? Sorry for the TMI folks, this is my first pregnancy and I’m just a bit stressed / unsure what I should do. There’s also a private ultrasound place I could book in for tomorrow, but what would that be able to show me at 7 weeks - would it be able to confirm if something is wrong ? Thanks for any advice

Hey, the advice I was given was bleeding with cramping you should speak to your GP. I would probably do that anyway, though brown is usually old blood.

With my MC they asked if it was bright red, whether it was filling a pad and whether I'd seen any clots so I'd guess those are clear warning signs.

However... In your situation I'd speak to your GP if you feel like it's going to be an anxious wait to see what happens and unfortunately I think that time is all that will tell.

On the early ultrasound question, with my first I had sharp one-sided pain and dizziness at 7 weeks so I went into the EPU and the scan showed a heartbeat which was reassuring (she's now 6)

I had it a few times in my last pregnancy. My mam is a retired midwife so her advice was unless it was bright red and/or filling a pad, it was probably ok. She was right! I think if you go to your GP they may send you to the EPU for a scan as there isn't much else they can do.

Hey, I am in a somewhat similar situation, 7 weeks pregnant. Started spotting a couple of days ago, mild cramping, and my midwife said if it continues to go to A&E. I booked a private scan instead and they are trying to reffer me to the Early Pregnancy assesment unit for further investigations as there are a few worrying things- baby measuring 6w instead of 7, no heartbeat yet and they vould see some bleeding around the sac which seems irregularly shaped. Waiting for a phone call but I'm loosing hope tbh...
Hope your situation is nothing serious as I heard spotting is normal if it doesn't come with other symptoms.

TheCoralFish · 12/12/2024 10:03

Thanks for the advice @Harriet1989 I called my GP office and they just advised me to call the local EPU myself. I’ve tried that but no answer so far, will keep trying them today. Haven’t seen any more of the discharge today but I am feeling quite crampy still. (Have been feeling a bit like this since I found out I was pregnant though tbh and I think some of it is hunger / nausea as have been really struggling to eat in the mornings.

@LolaJ87 it was definitely very light brown as in more so tan than anything and a very small amount so definitely doesn’t fill your mums criteria but just as I’ve not had anything like this so far it’s taken me by surprise / left me quite anxious and overthinking. You’re right about the GP just signposting me to the EPU, I will keep trying to get hold of them today.

Thanks both for your replies / advice. I’m still considering booking a private scan as there’s a place close to me with a slot this evening or tomorrow, but not sure if these places are appropriate places to go if you suspect something might be wrong or not really

LolaJ87 · 12/12/2024 10:31

Hi @Tara033 I’m so sorry to hear that, hope that the private place are able to refer you to the EPU, or can you just self refer ? I’ve just spoken to a nurse from my local one over the phone after the GP gave me the number. She said she’s not too worried atm based on my symptoms and to monitor over the next few days and call back if it continues / gets any worse. I did ask her about a private scan and she said it was up to me but she’d potentially advise waiting until 8 weeks as 8 weeks witha heartbeat is a really good milestone/ marker: I’m still a bit tempted to go tonight or tomorrow as well though, just to at least know if it’s in the right place/ measuring the right size etc. I hope you get to see someone soon and get some answers. Sending warm wishes

Confusedmermaid1 · 12/12/2024 11:23

Tentatively joining the thread. App predicts due date as 22nd August. Had a chemical in March followed by MMC at 9/10 weeks in July so I’m feeling very anxious.. had a lot of cramping but only a small amount of pink spotting sporadically for the last few days.. realistically I know this can be normal but just hoping this one sticks!
Because of my history I’ve been offered a scan by EPU after 6 weeks so the next two weeks (probably more because 6 weeks will be the week between Christmas and new year so not sure what their opening hrs will be around then) will likely drag 😅
Not planning to tell family etc until we’ve seen a good heartbeat so Christmas will be a bit tough as we all stay at SILs and she’s got a hot tub so she’s said to bring bathers for that but I’ll just have to say I’ve forgot mine 😅 they also all know I enjoy a drink so thinking I’m going to buy some 0% gin and transfer it into a proper gin bottle 😬
Trying to stay positive 🤞🏼

Thanks @TheCoralFish. Yes, the private place contacted the hospital while I was there but they had no bookings available and said they will call me today - if not, will get my midwife to push them. I cannot self refer. The reason I'm not a priority is because it's quite common at 6w to not find the heartbeat, so I'm still within the guidelines but of course the spotting doesn't help which hasn't turned into bleeding yet. It was pink, then brown.
I know it's hard to resist the temptation and get a private scan. My planned private scan was supposed to be around Christmas time when I would be 8.5 weeks and would get more accurate info.
Let us know how it goes if you do go for the scan.
Take care xx
