Has anyone started looking into prams yet, or have any advice? I'm a first time mum so trying to do my research and feeling very overwhelmed by the amount of different travel systems available and the massive difference in prices!

We've still got the one we use for DD (18 months) so we'll just use that. We're hoping we can avoid a double buggy by using a carrier and a buggy board!

We went with the mamas and papas Ocarro because it's good for both city life and going off path with our dog. We got a travel system package which included the bassinet, pram seat, infant car seat with isofix base (which could also be attached to the pram chassis for short trips) and things like a rain cover, nappy bag, cup holder etc. It's been great for us x

@Jess2826 we've got this exact pram from our 1st and it is like a tank! The only negative is the weight - it is quite hefty, but really comfortable in any weather for baby and toddler and can fit tons of things underneath so great for trips out and shopping. I really like it. We got a cybex cloud swivel car seat in the package which was also great. We're hoping to not really need a new pram as our DD will be nearly 2.5 years and would walk everywhere if we let her now!

Top tip - look out for January sales or visit the next big Baby Show in London (in March). I went knowing which pram and travel system I wanted beforehand and probably saved £600 at the show. Big discounts on lots of things.

I think space is a huge factor, followed by terrain.

We got the Bugaboo Fox 3 in the January sales for £600 2 years ago but bought the isofix and infant carrier separately, also in the sales.

The wheels and suspension are great and I'll be reusing it for the new baby. We live in the suburbs but our pavements are awful for some reason, so I appreciate it taking the worst of the jolting away.

I bought a second hand city mini GT 2 for my toddler and it's okay but DS is not a fan as he can't sit up properly in it.

Either way try as many as you can, they all handle differently etc. I'm personally not a fan of the overly plasticky ones so don't know if we'll be buying a double as they all seem like that.

BrightGoose · 07/12/2024 20:21

Definitely identify what you are going to need your pram for. If you’re getting it in and out the car a lot get a lightweight pushchair. If you are going to be walking everywhere shopping, get something more sturdy with good wheels.

I personally don’t have anything left from my other two but I will be looking for something lightweight I use my car a lot so ease to get in and out the car is my top aim.

GraySweatpants · 07/12/2024 20:46

@Jess2826 Depends on whether you live in the city or more rural and how much space you have.

Most people I observe have a proper sturdy pushchair until baby becomes a toddler then they swap to a Yoyo or an umbrella folded stroller for ease.

I personally find the basinet where baby can lie flat is a waste of money as they only use it for about 6 months. I’d recommend getting a one-handed stroller with a compatible car seat that can click on click off to go on it for the first few months. Just make sure baby doesn’t stay in it for longer than 2 hours at once. It saves us space, but the our stroller wheels are not the all terrain type so nit the sturdiest (Nuna Triv).

I’m in the same boat as you. My husband and I have booked an appointment at John Lewis on Tuesday to go through the different pram / car seat / travel system options. We won’t be buying straight away but it’ll be good to get an idea of the type of thing to look out for. We live on a country lane so will always have to drive somewhere first so my priority is something light that I can lift into the boot easily.

Jess2826 · 08/12/2024 11:08

Thank you all!
@dojo13 I'm also in the country side so fitting it in the car is essential for us too. Luckily my car has a decent sized boot so I'm not too concerned. We don't really have any baby shops near us so going somewhere to look at prams will be a day trip out for us.

WildWhirlwind · 08/12/2024 12:25

Luckily a family member gave us their old one, I have no idea what it has or doesn't have but I'm not questioning it because it's free! I don't think it was used for that long because, like a few of you have said, they grow out of it quickly?

BrightGoose · 08/12/2024 14:19

I had my silver cross pushchair for about 5 years for two babies and it still looked new when I sold it and im not the best at looking after things so when you buy quality it does last. Not saying you have to spend a fortune just buy something sturdy

Herewegoagain8 · 08/12/2024 15:31

I’ve had our icandy 5 years and it’s been great for two kids, now about to use it for a third. The pram is the one thing I’d splash out on as they use it for years as opposed to six months or less like everything else.

WildWhirlwind · 08/12/2024 19:27

I think Silver Cross also have a refurbishment service as well...?

Sierra26 · 09/12/2024 15:29

Does anyone else have no real symptoms, no bump and not feeling any movement yet?

Im 15 + 4, I am feeling a bit bigger round the middle but I had such a huge appetite in first trimester it could just be general weight gain! Certainly doesn’t look like a bump. I’m tall with strong core so could just be that baby has plenty space and is well supported for time being. Boobs are a cup size bigger so I suppose that’s a symptom!

16wk appt next week where I believe we’ll hear heartbeat so that will be reassuring.

I'm just desperate now to get a proper bump and to feel some movement.

We’ve started telling people and I feel like a fraud, keep having to look back at the scan picture to confirm I’m not going mad! Maybe that means I am in fact going mad 🤣

Dullblue1234 · 09/12/2024 15:55

Highly recommend the uppababy vista!

Jess2826 · 09/12/2024 19:13

@sierra26 I am now 16+4 and had my 16 week midwife appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat which was amazing. I felt nauseous, tired and couldn't eat in the first trimester and have been feeling pretty 'normal' the last few weeks which has been a relief! I haven't felt any movement yet either and have only a small bump at the moment but hearing the heartbeat today was a nice reminded that I'm not imagining things too!

Sierra26 · 09/12/2024 19:59

Aw that must have been great @Jess2826 . Now the wait until 20 week scan. Is pregnancy just counting the weeks between appts?! 🤣

BrightGoose · 10/12/2024 06:57

Haha can feel like that.. it gets more real with movements. I’m finally off my anti sickness medication but still struggling with certain foods like tomato based foods which is annoying because they are a huge part of my diet 😂 I still feel like I could eat sandwich and crips everyday and I would be fine.
im 16 weeks today I feel like it’s going so fast now. I have the midwife Thursday and consultant on Monday

I can so relate to feeling like a fraud. I felt when we were telling people it was like I just made up some nice story. 😂 I’m 17 weeks and do have a bump but still hard to believe it’s not just fat. 🤣🤣

LeBonBon · 10/12/2024 11:25

Very sad as my trust doesn't do the 16 week heartbeat check any more - having to wait for the 20 week scan has been torture 😢 Luckily mine is next Friday! With all the bad luck we've had with the other scans, and not really knowing what's going on, I'm just hoping to get a healthy result. The best Christmas present for me.

tb4122 · 10/12/2024 13:07

My midwife did listen for the heartbeat at my 16w appointment and we heard one but I'm having twins and so we couldn't confirm whether we have definitely heard both babies. So it was reassuring, but not fully, if you see what I mean.

Beccaa123 · 11/12/2024 07:55

Has anyone not put on weight? I assumed I would have put something on by now.
I lost around 2kgs in the first trimester because I was hardly eating and don't seem to have put any of it back on.
Also I know people's breasts tend to get bigger with pregnancy, have anyone's not yet?
I am 17 weeks today.

Herewegoagain8 · 11/12/2024 07:59

@Beccaa123 ive put on quite a bit but I’m 20 weeks and it’ll be my third. My boobs seem huge this time but I’ve had pregnancies in the past where they’ve barely changed at all and I’ve still looked very slim at 20 weeks so just goes to show every pregnancy is different!

Thanks!
I would say I have a bump, my body has definitely changed, clothes just about fit now. So I'm getting bigger stomach wise, just no weight gain with it.
I really wish I could feel kicks, that would definitely calm me down!

rosecbrm · 11/12/2024 08:21

@Beccaa123 I'm just over 18wks now and have put on around 4lb. Boobs are definitely bigger but they've always been on the bigger side anyway.

This is my first xx

My first too.
I find it strange I'm asking to gain weight 😂 I just thought it was normal!
Mine are quite big to start with also, so maybe they'll take longer to notice anything
