@TripleESept24 @kc92 I saw my OB at 6 weeks and she told me periods will likely come back as soon as I drop any evening / night feeds. Somethig to do with the hormones producing milk, they're highest at night.

I have horrendous periods (adenomyiosis and endometriosis) so the thought of no periods is what is keeping me going with EBF.

Decaffe · 11/11/2024 20:46

Does anyone have any tips for vaccination day? DS has got his tomorrow and I’m nervous for the following 48 hours 😔

kc92 · 11/11/2024 21:41

@TripleESept24 I think Irish twins would be the end of us, so thank god. 😂 The fear!!

@PinkWatermelon88 all about the cheap swaps atm! Trying not to spend a fortune right before unpaid mat leave kicks in.

@HuggingAnIcePack887 My DS was regularly doing 5-6 hour stunts at night. Didn't think I'd ever complain about that but ironically my cycle tanked my supply and he's feeding non stop now. 😭 Really hoping for you that pregnancy might have reset some of your health issues. 🤞 One of my friends had really bad endo before pregnancy & much less severe symptoms after.

@Decaffe we had ours last week and it wasn't so bad actually! Gave him a bath beforehand, so I didn't have to fuss with him when he wasn't feeling well. Loose clothes that don't rub the vaccine site, and are easy to snap back on when they're screaming after. 🙈 The syringes they have for oral meds in the Dr surgeries are easier to use than the calpol syringes so bag some of those if you can.

Best thing to do is let them get it over and done with as fast as possible, instead of trying to comfort them between injections.

If you don't already have them, stock up on paralink & neurofen suppositories, plus Vaseline, in case calpol doesn't work out.

And then brace yourself for a fussy baba - pre prepped foods, takeaway menu, and partner warned they'll be taking them as soon as they get in the door to give you a break. If you stay on top of the pain meds they're usually so sleepy that you get a little break straight after in my experience.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 11/11/2024 23:01

@Decaffe calpol and plan for a chill few days. My DS was a bit upset for a good 4 days. The rota virus upset his stomach (he has reflux anyway) and I think his leg hurt too, he would start crying really loud uncontrollably all of a sudden. Calpol was the only thing that did it, he needed it 3 evenings in a row. Trying to feed calpol to a screaming newborn is not fun but we made it.

Most of the babies in my mummy coffee group had no issues at all though.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 11/11/2024 23:06

@kc92 oh God, yes I did read periods can tank your supply too so you're in a tough spot. Babies are such hard work in ways I never expected😂

Mine does random nights in a row where he sleeps through. But then a few nights where he doesn't. So on the nights that he sleeps through, I wake up with enormous engorged breasts, in pain, milk going everywhere. I made a puddle on the floor when I bent down to pick something up this morning 😅

Decaffe · 12/11/2024 02:14

Thanks @HuggingAnIcePack887 and @kc92 I really hope it’s not too upsetting for him! ❤️‍🩹

DS has just done his longest stretch at night, nearly three hours and it was on my chest… remind me at what point he should be doing five or six?! 😅😂

PinkWatermelon88 · 12/11/2024 14:43

@Decaffe i had a chest koala too up to last week!! Then one night she decided she was ok with being beside me again woohoo!!

she was taking the dummy until last week and now wants nothing to do with it though 😭 hoping that changes again!!!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 12/11/2024 14:58

@PinkWatermelon88 our midwife insisted we must not give baby a dummy before 4 weeks or he'd get nipple confusion or something. But turns out 4-6 weeks is way too late to introduce a dummy. So now I am a human dummy ffs. I own every single brand of dummies out there, he hates all of them. My nipple will do just fine apparently 😥

My mum says I never took a dummy or a bottle. I went from breast to drinking from a cup. I guess this must be the universe's punishment for what I did to my mother 😂😁

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 12/11/2024 15:00

@Decaffe well mine did 6 hour stretches weeks 8-10 (not every night but most). We're back to 3-4 hour stretches since week 10. I feel like an idiot, I told all my relatives and friends my baby is an excellent sleeper. LOL.

PinkWatermelon88 · 12/11/2024 15:06

@HuggingAnIcePack887 oh I hear you loud and clear sister…. i was a human dummy with my first and I’ll never forget it … it was hell!!! That’s why I really hoped this lady would take one but nope, I’ll keep trying!!! Have you stopped trying? I could be wasting my time haha but I’m the same as you have spent a good €50-€100 on dodos of all kinds hoping she’ll take one!!!

kc92 · 12/11/2024 15:06

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I had to keep the haaka beside the bed. 🙈 Tried to sleep through it and got mastitis & 2 clogged ducts so I was expressing middle of the night - at least I don't have to do that right now in silver linings!

@Decaffe still waiting on my toddler to do a long stretch so think it's just luck of the draw. 😂 I was bracing myself for another dodie & bottle refusing, nap hating, koala baby and got a sleepy little cutie instead. Sometimes I even think he prefers his dad and my first has been my little bestie, glued to me, from day #1. Chalk and cheese!!

Emmaev · 12/11/2024 18:39

Can totally relate to the baby not taking a dummy, I waited until 8 weeks to try to get indie to take one as I was so apprehensive of her getting nipple confusion and now she won’t take a dummy or bottle. So I’m the only comfort for her.

Had some horrible news the other day that our landlord is selling up and we have to move. So been trying to find a new house since. We had a viewing today for a perfect place only round the corner so our eldest can stay in the same school. So fingers crossed we get it

FuppinNora · 12/11/2024 23:42

My DS doesn't like his soother really but I keep shoving it, he doesn't alaays take it. He is trying to thumb suck which is very cute. 11 weeks in and still waking every 3 hours without fail. I'd settle for 4 hours. Have had a few unsettled nights here so the choc digestives are back out.

Trying to stretch him a bit in the day with the hopes of training him. I'm kidding myself.
@PinkWatermelon88 thanks I'll give the cream a go,

@Emmaev hope you get sorted quickly, it's a nightmare at the moment. So stressful and the last thing you need right now.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 13/11/2024 00:18

@FuppinNora I read that offering loads of feeds in the day is key. So that they get their calories in the day.

FuppinNora · 13/11/2024 02:19

@HuggingAnIcePack887 that makes sense! I think I just have to suck it up. He was small when born so probably hasn't packed on enough.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 13/11/2024 02:44

@FuppinNora yeah it's definitely weight dependant too. My friend gave birth to a 9.5 lbs baby and she was sleeping 8 hrs a night VERY early on. I wouldn't fancy the gestational diabetes and then pushing out a baby that big tho.

Emmaev · 13/11/2024 08:54

@FuppinNora i can relate, indie is still a very regular 3 hour feeder, we had one night of 5 hours (what a luxury) but she’s back to it the last few days. Tbf my body feels use to it now and wakes before the 3 hours is up haha

PinkWatermelon88 · 13/11/2024 10:13

@FuppinNora i thought of you yesterday! I inherited a pack of the pampers harmonie nappies…. The worst I’ve ever used!!! She had three dirty buns and each of them leaked and destroyed her clothes. So they’re a hard pass too 😂 I’ll keep trying the dodo for sure! She took it a good bit for me yesterday thank god

kc92 · 13/11/2024 10:59

@Emmaev it's so hard when they won't take one. 🙈 My DS does have a bit of nipple confusion though - or preference really - for his dodie. When he's upset he won't latch for a feed, and will only take his soother. And when he's tired in the evenings to get him to feed I have to get him sucking on the dodie and then swap the boob in fast enough that he doesn't notice. 😅

And 🤞🤞 you get the house! Absolute dose to half to move with a baby. Our house build was finished the day before little one was born, and we moved when he was a few days old. Still living out of boxes. 😂

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I was wondering if his size had anything to do with his sleep actually. He was only a lb bigger than his brother but he gained weight & length so quickly, he's well over a stone now.

@FuppinNora have ran out of biscuits - considering cracking open the heroes I was stockpiling for Christmas gifts out of desperation. 🙈

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 13/11/2024 12:59

I've figured out my baby has a milk protein allergy. I stopped having dairy a few weeks ago and he's so much more content. He still has reflux but at least the projectile vomiting has stopped (I still have stains on the wall!!). Anyone else in the same boat?

I know it's a small thing but how will I do Christmas with no butter??? 😂😭It's been good for my waistline, as I can't have any biscuits, cakes, pastries but omg Christmas will be hard. I've become quite paranoid about eating out at as well, almost everything has dairy in it (e.g. even French fries, bread etc.). DH took weeks to adapt, he just didn't understand dairy means more than milk and would put ghee in curries, scramble the eggs in butter etc. Had so many arguments about it!!

PinkWatermelon88 · 13/11/2024 16:56

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I was vegan for years and used flora! It’s not the same as butter of course but it’s a good alternative x

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I was also vegan for years...... Flora do a plant butter block it's really good and fairly reasonably priced!!

Also ladies.... Query! I've seen a few people not happy with their health visitor......

She's booked for a 6-8 week review at home tomorrow. I tried calling today but she was on annual leave. We also have an 8 week check up booked with vaccinations with our GP. Are they for different purposes??

I really don't like my health visitor if I'm honest. She's useless and gives me no confidence in what she's saying whatsoever! Id rather do everything with the GP!? Is that possible are are they different things?

FuppinNora · 13/11/2024 19:22

@Emmaev @HuggingAnIcePack887 very true! A girl can dream. I keep waking up in the night praying when I look at the clock that it has been 4 hours, never is 😂
How did you know your LO had a milk protein allergy? I think mine has one and due back to GP in 2 weeks to see if the comfort milk has helped.

@PinkWatermelon88 they are off my list so! Thanks,Still haven't made it to Aldi, nearest one is 20 mins away, hope to get there Friday. So we are still leaking at times. 😅

@kc92 3 for €10 in Lidl and Tesco so crack them open!!!

@TripleESept24 the GP 8 week check up is very thorough - hips, heart, tongue tie etc. I didn't have health visitor to house since 2 weeks I think and tbh she was useless and brushed anythinfg off about constipation. I'm not sure you can skip it in the UK but with mine I told her I was going to the GP the following week she wanted to see me so I asked her was there any point and that I could ring her in the meantime if I had an issue
She signed me off then. Maybe worth a try? Could be a different system over there and might raise a red flag if you skip?

FuppinNora · 13/11/2024 19:33

Meant to say to those in Ireland vinted has launched. Seems we can buy from France too!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 13/11/2024 20:25

@FuppinNora lots of mucus in stool, projectile vomiting, really unhappy at the breast and screaming right after a feed. At first it was dismissed as bad reflux but I went dairy free and he improved. Reflux is still an issue, he's still sick a lot, but he's much happier. Not in pain all the time anymore.

The problem with vegan spreads is they usually have soy and he seems to react quite badly to soy too (which is apparently common with dairy allergy). I've become quite obsessed with labels on stuff and I now hate eating out as almost everything on a menu is off limits.
