rosebury - your mw is deffo talking crap. My bp is normally 120/70 and has remained at that so far in my pg. Infact its one of the only things that they haven't been able to bug me about. Once it was 120/79 and the mw didn't commnet on it.

I hate it when they make you feel old - I have only just turned 40 but I get it also. OK fair enough to voice their concerns abut certain increased risks before you are prgnant but once you are there's no bloody point trying to make you worry about your age.

hedgepig · 13/06/2008 14:37

I think you should all come to cambridge, being a mum over 40 seems to be the normal thing here. I fact the only persion mentioning age seems to be me!! going for scans is strange there seems too be either very young ladies or much older ones, ther don't seem to be many in between.

johnworf · 13/06/2008 16:00

rosebury as someone who has had hyptertension for the past 4 years, your b/p reading is excellent. Ignore what they're saying to you.

As for the old-ist stuff, when I went for my booking in appointment, I thought I was going to be held aloft by my MW as a specimen from a) antiques roadshow or b) pregnant woman circa Cretatious period.

Again, ignore 'em love

johnworf · 13/06/2008 16:05

I had a dream last night I was swimming in a river, naked, with Mike Oldfield trying to get him to impregnate me.

I told DH this morning in bed while I was doing my milk. He wasn't impressed. Not sure which bit he didn't like I very much enjoyed the experience!

I wonder what Freud would make of me

kaz1967 I meant to say, I have had kangaroo care but not every day as she's still a weany one. Just when she's stable enough to come out.

DH's bag of an ex is just that. She makes that woman from Dewsbury look like mother of the year. And that's all I can say ...........

Kaz1967 · 13/06/2008 16:19

rosebury as a nurse I have to say that 120/70 for a pregnant woman is perfect Mine is 130/70 to 120/70 depending on if I am stressed They do not like the top figure going about 140 but that figure is most effected by stress and is not uncommon. It is the bottom figure which is most indicative to hypertension and it should be below 90 if it goes up then it could be a problem and you get extra checks and possibly meds

But yours well honestly if it was much lower you would be keeling over when ever you stood up

TummyTrouble · 13/06/2008 16:25

Hedgepig - it's the same round here. There are lots of mums in their 40s, mainly because they are on number 4 or 5. This will only be no.2 for me.

My mw is a bit mad, but was very good with my last pregnancy.

The GP seems to have issues though, as she said to me last week "you are such an inspiration to women in their 40s" - referring to my inability to conceive for 6 years and then to fall pregnant twice in 6 months when I turned 40. I think she may be worrying about her own biological clock. I'll refer her to this site and all you pregnant 40 year olds!

jw - you have to have some compassion for you Dh's ex - she's a loser and your not - that could be you mantra.

mrsboogie · 13/06/2008 16:36

...or she's a granny and you are a yummy mummy jw!!

re dreams - is it a pregnancy thing? I had a v odd one the other night. I dreamt that I was going for some sort of antenatal checkup with my OH. After they had done a scan they told me that I wasn't carrying a baby but a fluffy lamb. The the doctor turned into a vet and started talking about how he was going to deliver me of the lamb. Oddly enough in the dream I wasn't at all bothered by this turn of events although my OH was not best pleased. Then the doctors told me that I would need to start trying for a baby immediately and I was shown into a bedroom with Zac Dingle form Emmerdale who they said was the only person who could impregnate me!!! yuk.

I wonder if I have been watching too much Emmerdale? or am I just bonkers?

Kaz1967 · 13/06/2008 17:10

You know I never even ask how old other Mums are no the antenatal class seems to be a wide range well 20+ I suspect I am one if not the eldest there but it does not seem important. No one believes I am 40 anyway when they meet me people seem to think I am anything between Mid 20's and mid 30's personally I think they all need glasses LOL

johnworf very glad you have been getting some Kangaroo care it really is the most special thing for both you and her. Yes you are right she will not always be up for it sometimes (probably quite a lot) she will have endured so much. But it really is so good for them and it means they are out of that box and actually start to feel as if they belong to YOU because she does.

Kaz1967 · 13/06/2008 17:11

mrsboogie all pregnant women go bonkers for at least the duration of their pregnancy if not longer

mrsboogie · 13/06/2008 17:15

that's ok then..I will carry on incubating my wee sheep...

johnworf · 13/06/2008 18:04

...and I'll carry on having rampant sex with Mike Oldfield

johnworf · 13/06/2008 18:07

I think I'm fairly bonkers most of the time (pregnant or not). Pregnancy just enhances it.

On the subject of Emmerdale has anyone been watching it of late? I've had myself in tears on the sofa watching poor baby Arthur in the middle of all those screaching adults. What a horrid storyline.

Sorry. I know it's not real and baby Arthur really does have a mum and dad he knows and I'm just a sucker for a cry at practically anything these days

msdynamo · 13/06/2008 18:36

Mike Oldfield? Of all the people to have a horny dream about...but then didn't you admit earlier to having a crush on Terry Wogan?!!

mrsboogie your dream is hilarious!

My latest dreamboat is Vigo Mortensen in the naked fight scene, in Eastern Promises. Phooar! Have had many a pleasant fantasy since, I recommend it as essential viewing

johnworf · 13/06/2008 21:15

msdynamo yep, terry wogan is up there along with Mike and oooh that singer out of A-ha. Isn't he from the same neck of the woods as Vigo Mortenson?

I think my libido must suddenly be returning after months of being dormant

Huzzah!

(note to self: must get out more....)

jeanjeannie · 14/06/2008 10:05

JW my DPs aunt - who is/was VERY gorgeous and lush.....went out with singer from A-ha

Mike Oldfield...??? I don't think I'd know what he looked like if I passed him in Tesco...I shall Google him. Personally I'm back onto Hugh Laurie....Grrrrrrrrrrr. it's that slightly posh, yet bonkers look....gets me every time. AND he was a rower....I had a bit of a thing for them

And SNAP - my libido is returning with a vengence. I think DP is a little scared though...seems everytime we have sex I get knocked up ...roll on the menopause

Ahahah mrsboogie love the idea of incubating sheep ....how queer. Perhaps you're in fluffy, cute mode!

msdynamo Vigo Mortenson....HELLO! Have to say he's one of the few men I think can carry off long hair. Personally he's the only reason I can see for sitting through hours of Lords of the Rings.

Tee hee....I had almost 8 hours sleep last night....how smug do I feel?!

FloriaTosca · 14/06/2008 12:03

MsDynamo;ooooh Viggo...I can totally understand that one
Jw;sorry but Terry Wogan and Mike Oldfield????...only in nightmares for me!
...having said that...
..with a sleep resisting 8mth old and chance being a fine thing...any port in a storm

johnworf · 14/06/2008 16:02

Just chuckling away to myself here. I think I'm really not that fussed at the moment like you ForiaTosca.

I must say the only thing (apart from the seepage from my undercarriage) that puts me off sex right now is the prospect of getting pregnant again. Can you IMAGINE IT jeanjeannie? I'd cack myself if I got knocked up now. Saying that, never say never. I swore this would be my last but who knows now? I might be on a roll and have another 2 before I hit the menopause.

Ok, I'm scaring myself now

Oh, this morning was v funny. DH dropped off DSS to his mad mother's house and she actually asked DH for a picture (to keep) of our LO. Couldn't understand when he refused. She's off her f**king rocker IMHO.

rosebury · 14/06/2008 17:13

Evening ladies not much chat on here today , but what there is has made me chuckle I am horny enough as it is without you lot making me think of gorgeous men other than my dh of course. Sean Bean and Patrick Swayzee coming across either of them whilst out for a walk in the woods the wild wild passion would be fantastic oh gosh cool me down ladies this could turn into a porn story.

bye for now.

msdynamo · 14/06/2008 18:19

Sean Bean alone in the woods, phwooar!

johnworf thinking about your sexy doctor, but maybe he looks like Terry mixed with Mike Oldfield- yikes! I was thinking more George Clooney in ER. And imagining him examining your lady bits...

OOps, all sounding a bit too pervy. Better get back to my Green and Blacks...

Kaz1967 · 14/06/2008 18:19

johnworf LOL yep be careful we have had a few Mums of extreme premies like Katherine fall pregnant before they get their little ones home

johnworf · 14/06/2008 20:53

OMG kaz1967 what are you trying to do to me?

Just been for a curry with DH and I said jokingly about having another baby perhaps. He said he was going to (and I quote) 'chop his dick off when he got home'. Then went on to ask me how hard it was for me to have a hysterectomy I think that's perhaps a no then?

OOOOh OOOOh Sean Bean is on my list of 'things to do'! But my doc def doesn't look like either Terry or Mike. He's 30ish, wears specs and is just a geek I think. Oh, didn't I mention I have a thing for geeky men

Yes...the plot does indeed thicken.

Kaz1967 · 14/06/2008 22:52

Ooops maybe this thing with his ex is really getting to him. Think at the end of the day though we all cope differently in this sort of stressful situation and some couples the only way they get through it is that closeness and reassurance you can only get one way then Ooops one night it happens without thinking and here you go again

pwcbird · 14/06/2008 23:27

Hello all,
I'm back.
From outa space. I just walked in to find you here with that look on your face...

Oh no. Wrong song. Back from Spain. That's it!

Just caught up with 3 episodes of Dr Who. I love David Tennant and I know you'll all say he's skinny and geeky but I kind of like that bookish thing. Like Louis Theroux too.

Ladies - will try to catch up but have missed so much and it'll take ages. But johnworf I have just looked at all your photos of Katherine and it almost had me blubbing. She looks beautiful and she's so wee. You surely have it all on your plate right now what with DH's ex and all. I send you fortitude via Dr Who's sonic screwdriver.

I think I am a little mad with washing machine fatigue and an overdose of the aforementioned Timelord so will adieu and can't wait to catch up and chat more soonest.

Midwife on Tuesday. 16 weeks and this will be my first midwife appt. Blinkin NHS! Mrsboogie I too am overweight and am dreading visit to midwife where she sucks in her breath and purses her lips as she weighs me. I keep having to say to myself 'I am 40, I am a grown up woman and not a little girl, I don't have to take this' etc.

johnworf · 15/06/2008 07:58

Well looky who is back....it's Gloria Gaynor squints oh no it isn't, sorry my mistake, it's pwcbird

Did you have a good holiday my dear? Do you have tan lines over your stretch marks?

Good luck with your MW. Really wouldn't worry about your weight. It's no ones business but yours. It's funny how we're reduce to being the child when faced with with a doctor or a MW or some other health professional (JW flicks through her Easy Peasy Guide to Transactional Analysis).

Well girls, rang hospital y'day evening as I always do and the MW said to me, oh you left before we could chat this afternoon. Turns out - brace yourself girls - that there was a mix up the night before with breast milk and there's a 'possibility' Katherine was given another mother's milk. I'm pretty chilled about it tbh but DH is livid. He wants to see the consultant today, and an investigation launched as to how this could happen.

Sighs.

Katherine herself is fine btw. Just rung hospital this morning and they changed her ventilation tubes this morning at 4am and weighed her. requests drum roll She's put on 82 grams in 2 days! Greedy guzzler that she is. She's now 767 grams and streaking her way to a kilo!!

FloriaTosca · 15/06/2008 08:37

johnworf fantastic news about Katherines weight gain!about the milk mix up, but I think you can assume that the other mother isnt coping with the stress of a preemie by knocking back a dozen gins a day or she wouldnt be expressing and one feed without added fenugreek wont do Katherine any harm. Sounds like your Dh is kind of relieved to find something "wrong" to vent his pent up feelings/frustrations on
Right..must go make my dh his first "fathers day" breakfast in bed...(got to teach him what I expect in the future as he totally forgot to get me anything on mothers day and flew out to the Tesco at lunch time when he realised I was not impressed)
