How is everyone getting on with their colostrum collecting? I think I've finally mastered a technique that works for me. I got 2ml today! 1ml this morning and 1ml this evening. My husband joked that I'm batching cooking for everyone. I made and frozen 22 meatballs today and a meal for the baby. LOL

Mine's gone a bit wild and now have over 120ml in the freezer since starting at 37wks.
Apparently 0 correlation with milk production though eventually so I'm just taking all I can!

RobynC28 · 28/09/2024 10:34

@Gamergirl86 congratulations! I had my girl by c section yesterday too so they are birthday twins! Although mine was planned so less of a suprise. Hope you are both doing well!

Sara1988 · 28/09/2024 12:46

Congratulations all! So many babies being born already. I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and get the feeling I'll be here for another few weeks.

Would be instructed to know how everyone's predicted weight compared to actual weight!

RobynC28 · 28/09/2024 13:52

@Sara1988 mine was pretty accurate! I was told i was 20th percentile and she's between the 10th and 25th percentile but nearer the 25th.

Holl89 · 28/09/2024 14:02

Hi everyone!
I’m 39 weeks tomorrow but had a scan a couple days ago and I have low fluid so need to be induced 😩 so so gutted
really wanted to go naturally but most important thing is baby 🩷
anyone else got a planned induction? 🥹

SuenoNB · 28/09/2024 14:46

Congratulations on all of the babies so far. It's so exciting to see all of the announcements.

I'm 38 weeks and getting a lot of pelvic pain now and the midwife yesterday had to feel really low down to feel the head at my appointment so really hoping that means things are happening. Got my last load of baby washing on the line today, so feeling prepared.

spudnik1 · 28/09/2024 16:31

Thank you all,
It was a planned section but ended up being the last one on the day , so a very long day.
I had been having growth scans throughout, and they had estimated 6lb10oz roughly, and he was 7lb 5oz, so not that far off.

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow too! Have you asked for monitoring rather than induction? They can scan you everyday if they need to.

CluelessInLondon · 28/09/2024 19:30

@Gamergirl86 @RobynC28 Congratulations to both of you - so exciting to see more babies arriving! Hope you are both doing well and your recoveries go smoothly. ❤️

@AppleTree16 How are you getting on? Hope things have progressed for you.

@Sara1988 I can't remember what my estimated weight was, but she weighed 7lb 11oz at birth and I'm sure the estimate was over 8lb - she definitely didn't have the fat tummy that they measured at my 34 week scan!

Hormones have been all over the place for me today, I've been having random bouts of sobbing even when I'm talking or thinking about stuff that makes me happy. Also had a bit of a meltdown during my midwife visit when I was struggling to breastfeed and finding it painful - she gave me some really good advice though and at the next feed it was like feeding a different baby! Hoping we are getting the hang of it now...

Congrats to all the new babies! How lovely this thread is now with all the birth announcements!

The app isn't working properly so it won't let me tag - I'm going to have an induction booked at 41 weeks (well, thereabouts). I'd be pretty surprised to find myself still pregnant then though based on when my other two kids were born as my dates are a week earlier than the hospital's too. Although I would move it earlier than that if there's any issue on my next scan.

rachisamumtobe · 28/09/2024 19:59

@RobynC28 congratulations to you!!! X

Gamergirl86 · 28/09/2024 20:10

@Sara1988 my DD was predicted 99th percentile and 9lbs 4 at 37 weeks! Was born at 8lbs 13 at 38 weeks so not too far off!

rachisamumtobe · 28/09/2024 20:12

@Gamergirl86 congratulations hope you and baby doing well!

sorchanim · 28/09/2024 20:25

@RobynC28 @Gamergirl86 @CluelessInLondon @spudnik1 Congrats on all your babies!!!

My due date was September 24th but I'm still here and showing no signs of having a September baby. With two days to go it's looking more likely to be an October baby!

I'm living abroad and my independent midwife who can deliver in the birth suite at the hospital will deliver until 41+6. I saw the gynaecologist on Thursday and she booked me in for an induction on 8 October (42+0). She was really cool and didn't push me to induce any time sooner. I've been expecting to go over as baby was showing no indication of anything happening, so tomorrow we're still busy getting the house ready and only from next week will I be twiddling my thumbs!

Good luck to all of you whether you're due in the coming days or still have 5 weeks to go!

rachisamumtobe · 28/09/2024 22:24

My baby is breech and I'm 37 weeks on Monday! Booked for an ECV on Tuesday to try and turn him if he hasn't already by then.... fingers crossed

@Kate9423 This is amazing!!! I have

Oct24 · 29/09/2024 01:15

@Kate9423 Fat fingers! Hit post before I was finished!

120ml is amazing! In what quantities are you freezing? I'm 37+4 and have 20ml. 3 x 4ml in Haakaa collectors and the rest on 1ml syringes. I only have 12 Haakaa collectors so thinking of getting some 5ml syringes and storing in 2ml or 3ml batches. But I have no idea!

I had 1ml syringes but they were costing a fortune! So I've got 7ml vials and now 10ml pots to freeze in. The pots make life easier with freezer space etc.
I started out at 5ml a session, but I've found that being warm is key for me. I was cold the other day and it was a struggle!

WeightoftheWorld · 29/09/2024 09:58

I'm about to turn 37 weeks and have 2ml from two sessions and have been absolutely made up with that haha. In my last two pregnancies I could spend 45+ mins to get like 0.2ml for example so this is a huge improvement on the last two times!

That's amazing, well done! Isn't it such a great sense of achievement collecting? ☺️

Sara1988 · 29/09/2024 11:12

@sorchanim I'm also refusing any kind of intervention until 42 weeks. I think I'll have a c-section rather than induction though as so many inductions at my hospital end in emergency sections after long, painful labours that I'd rather bypass and go for planned. My midwife will deliver at home until 42 weeks.

@WeightoftheWorld @Kate9423 @Oct24 I've given up on colostrum but might give it another go this week. Couple of breast feeding mum's have suggested I might not be doing it hard enough and I tend to give up after about 10 mins! Sounds like I need to be trying for longer!

WeightoftheWorld · 29/09/2024 13:32

@Sara1988 yeah, it used to take me more than 10-15 mins to even get the tiniest let down started in my other pregnancies. But tbh I wouldn't worry about it like, if you're busy and so on it's hard to find time anyway especially when it takes ages. I only managed to express a few tiny amounts with my other two DC and I didn't have any big problems with breastfeeding either of them like. I also didn't want induction much earlier than 42 weeks in my other pregnancies, but because of having low papp A this time the stillbirth rate is quite significantly higher so have agreed on 41 weeks. But think it's fairly likely that baby will have been born by then anyway.

Sara1988 · 29/09/2024 15:27

@WeightoftheWorld I think with it being my first and me being pretty certain my due date is actually later than the hospital have said, I'm willing to go a little longer. I'd definitely be thinking differently if I had any other complications to consider.

I'm going go do some breast massage tonight and focus less on actually getting any colostrum out and try again after my due date.

sorchanim · 29/09/2024 17:07

@Sara1988 I'm not sure trying longer will help - just ask for help at your next appointment :)
My midwife told me in 1 appointment to try hand expressing and I couldn't get anything out after trying ages, different positions etc. I thought I just didn't have any. The next week I went to the midwife practice again and one of the midwives helped me out. After like three quick squeezes there was colostrum coming out! I tried again and nothing, midwife tried again and it was coming out easily, I tried again and got it going. Now I can do it after like 5 compressions without any massaging or special relaxation first. I'm not storing it, just seeing that I can get drops out (and then feel like a criminal wiping it away!!!).

Glad to hear you're in the same boat as me with a midwife who'll deliver and the possibility to avoid interventions until 42 weeks. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that for either of us!

CluelessInLondon · 29/09/2024 17:23

@rachisamumtobe Good luck for the ECV, fingers crossed for you that baby turns around!

@Sara1988 I found the paperwork about birth centiles in my red book - thought you might be interested to know that I was told baby was measuring 90th centile, she was 53rd when she was born! So they were way off with both the fundal height measurements and the measurements at my 34 week scan. Which I am quite glad about, considering the tearing I had even with her not being a massive baby. 😬
