Hi @MaggieS21 i understand what you are going through. I had same bad news recently. I had 1/73 chances of DS (mainly age (38) and hCGb being higher than should be. Nothing to worry by itself but apparently all together created a DS pattern) anyway, I wanted to do the NIPT test offered by NHS like you but I preferred the Amnio because is a Yes/No answer. Downside, I need to wait until the end of August to do it and then a few days for the results to coma back and the 0.5% chance of miscarriage. NIPT would come back more quicker and safer but not accurate enough for my peace of mind. I wish you the best and hopefully they would be back with a low chance!!!! Virtual hugs and love during this time.

@Hopefully2ndtimemummy I believe it is possible to have a private amnio/CVS, but it's hugely expensive (1k +) and it's not obvious that a private practice would perform the procedure if you had a low risk result from the combined test or NIPT - which is probably a good thing. Apologies if this not what you were asking!

We haven't had our letter about the combined test back yet (it's been over a week, so I'm taking that to mean the results aren't troubling) but decided to get a private NIPT anyway for extra reassurance and to find out the sex, although I'm wobbling a bit on that now. I guess I have to find out at some point!

Thanks a mil. That is super expensive for sure. I had combined test back in 2019 but we’re not in the UK anymore so can’t avail of that unfortunately!
hope your nipt goes well!

Have people booked onto an NCT or other antenatal course yet (Happy Baby, Happy Bump; Bump & Baby Club)? The ones near us are getting very booked up, so think we’ll need to book soon but the dates are falling so badly due to Christmas & New Year. We can either do one in November/ early December (which seems a bit early?) or mid-late Jan (which seems too late for our due date of 5th Feb). Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey. Someone at work told me they book up quickly and I'm so glad they mentioned it otherwise I would have definitely missed out. I did lots of reading this morning and have decided to go for Bump to Baby over NCT as it felt a better fit for my husband and I, and the course will be November into December. Just waiting for payday on Monday and I'll book then (and keeping fingers crossed it doesn't sell out between now and then ahah)

elb1504 · 10/08/2024 19:40

Recommend doing the classes not too close to due date as it can seem like another thing to complete when you start getting shattered.

We did an independent local one with my first and information was super helpful, we didn't keep in touch which is a shame but mainly because we all gave birth right on 1st lockdown but those groups can be invaluable in the early days and to have a bunch of local parents. They do get super booked up because generally the groups are small.

Lol at the payday wait! We’re having a load of (expensive!) work done to our house soon and I would’ve preferred to wait until after that was paid for, but the risk of losing out seems real!

And yes we’re leaning away from traditional NCT too- either Bump & Baby or the Happy Baby one. It’s just that the dates aren’t ideal for us - but I think @elb1504 is right that it’s better not to leave it too late. So I’ll probably book Bump & Baby for end of November/ early December.

Glad you’re looking at similar dates @UrbanSquirrel - did you go for NCT or one of the others?

Thank you all 😊

UrbanSquirrel · 10/08/2024 21:09

@EastLondonCoffeeFiend We went for NCT simply because several friends have done them and recommend ☺️

aww great!

Tbh I’m tempted to do two courses- but the cost doesn’t really make it feasible 😂

I’ve now booked Bump & Baby, the dates and location worked a lot better for us than the other options too.

LilacSnail · 10/08/2024 22:10

@retrievermum & @elb1504 I’ve been wondering if I might have started feeling the odd flutter the last couple of days. I’m 14 weeks tomorrow though so it feels very early. Didn’t feel anything until much later with DD.

x

retrievermum · 10/08/2024 22:49

@LilacSnail I’m also much earlier to feel it than I was last time, but I think it’s because we know what it feels like this time round! Last time I was feeling SOMETHING for a while but it certainly wasn’t the “butterflies” I’d been told about so I wrote it off, this time I’m almost certain that it’s a baby moving inside of me haha! Very exciting!

I thought the nausea had gone, it’s back with a vengeance! It’s making eating anything really hard because everything makes me feel sick and I don’t fancy anything! If I do fancy something and I eat it, I’m wretching for ages afterwards hoping that I can keep it down. It’s just miserable! I’ve been such a moaner if I had hyperemesis ☹️🤢

Hi everyone, hope it's okay if I join! I've been on the March thread as my original due date was end of Feb but at our recent private scan they put it at 20 Feb and I was measuring a bit further along than we thought (10w+2 at the time, we'd thought 9w+4).

@OrangeSlices998 I really feel for you! I'm honestly really struggling with the nausea, food aversions and vomiting. I made a list on notes today of the few foods I'm still able to eat, it's literally about 10 individual things and I'm so sick of them (ridiculously plain and quite carby food like bagels, chips, fish fingers). Threw up dinner (cacio e pepe pasta) in another restaurant tonight. I just feel exhausted and like I'm constantly having to think about food but everything also sounds disgusting or will make me sick even if it doesn't turn me off, and I'm worried about not getting enough nutrition.

Currently 12w+2 and desperate for it to turn some kind of corner, atm I'd take just being able to eat a slightly bigger variety of food. Are you considering any medication? Our close family that we've told and my midwife are all discouraging it but I feel quite desperate.

Has anyone had any luck at all with B6 for nausea?

LilacSnail · 11/08/2024 04:02

@ridl14 Welcome to the thread. 😀

How do you feel about taking medication? It’s such a personal decision.

I know there’s a few ladies on the thread who are so I’m sure they’ll be able to advise on their experience.

I’m also finding nausea, food aversion (and drink aversion) and vomiting tough. It’s really unpleasant, I also think a lot of what I feel I can eat isn’t exactly a gold star diet.

I’m really hoping it is going to improve soon.

OrangeSlices998 · 11/08/2024 07:23

@ridl14 Welcome! I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling, I’m 14+2 today and honestly some days it’s still awful. I have to be really careful of what I eat or I’ll feel so sick, or like yesterday at dinner time I thought ‘I actually feel great!’ And ate spaghetti bolognaise I had made for me and the kids, which was fine until it suddenly wasn’t mid mouthful and I didn’t know what to do! Really really had to suppress the urge down as I didn’t want to be sick at the table with the kids next to me.

I don’t know the polite way to say this, so I’ll just be blunt. Who gives a monkeys if your family/friends think you shouldn’t have medication? You’re the one who can barely eat and who’s the one who needs to function! Please see your GP! Pregnancy Sickness Support are also a great charity and very very kind and supportive. Also have actual evidence and information about medications for you to make a decision on.

Big hugs to you xxxxx

I just booked Bump and Baby, mainly because the dates worked best for me and my partner but totally agree that this February due date is awkward! We ended up booking for Nov which feels a bit too early but the Jan classes ran into Feb - think I'd rather be a bit early than a bit late.

Haha glad you’re with me on the awkwardness of the dates! I’ve booked Bump & Baby for late November too- think it’s the best option we have. My husband was keen for the mid/late January dates, but I feel like I may just want to be putting my feet up at home by that stage 😂

QuantumPanic · 11/08/2024 09:16

We're in a tiny town - no private classes other than NCT available and that's in the next town over. I think we'll probably just stick with the free NHS classes - my trust runs a three week in-person course, so seems more likely that I'll find someone living close by through that? Think I'll put out a plea on Facebook come January too (knock on wood).

Does anyone on here live in West Yorkshire?? 😅

QuantumPanic · 11/08/2024 09:18

On that note, did someone mention that there's a FB group? Does anyone have a link handy, please?

Lidlisthebusiness · 11/08/2024 10:34

I've never been on a course
I'm seeing now just how different my approaches have been to pregnancy and babies, than the majority!

Happy Sunday ladies!
Do people notice a bump/clothes less fitting? I'm 14 weeks today and my clothes been ill fitting for a while, but before being pregnant I had really bad bloating and ofc it's bad now. So hard for me to tell what's bloat vs bump.
I'm feeling like a frump so thought it might be a good time to start buying maternity clothes. I imagine will be so comfortable might want to always wear them with my bloating lol.
Got a few questions was hoping someone might know answers to 😊

  • any nice/not overly expensive brands
  • any UK high street retailers who stock maternity wear in store (so can try fit)
  • recommendations on sizing?
  • recommendations on staples? Was thinking a pair of leggings and jeans, dress, and a few tops

😊

retrievermum · 11/08/2024 12:40

@SBelfast one pair of decent maternity jeans pretty much saw me through last time! I inherited a few T-shirts from my SIL which were handy, all from H&M, but my jeans are ASOS maternity skinny jeans (I’ve treated myself and bought them in black this time, as I only had blue!). I only really buy things if I know they’ll last post partum too, so lots of baggy T-shirts and leggings (not maternity but stretchy enough, I managed them last time and I was BIG, the Amazon ones are amazing!), and a couple of tight fitting dresses to show off my bump! Soon it’ll be winter and we can keep bump tucked up nicely under a jumper so don’t go too crazy just yet!

SBelfast · 11/08/2024 12:44

Thanks @retrievermum that's great. Yeh I'll try not to go mad haha, but I need some clothes to wear now I'm not embarrassed to be out and about it lol.

Lidlisthebusiness · 11/08/2024 14:04

@SBelfast Size wise, you just buy your pre pregno size in maternity wear. I've had success with H&M, Zara (I love their vests, so soft, not maternity but I'd just go a size or 2 up), Seraphine, Isabella Oliver and Next.

For basics, I'd get a few pairs of leggings, some comfy vest tops, jeans (overbump might be more comfortable!), a hoodie or oversized jumper. Wrap dresses are great as they grow with you, or something with a stretch. For colder months, knitted ones are lovely.

apple67cherry · 11/08/2024 14:24

Odd question everyone but does anyone know if you can eat nandos perinaise? Big craving for it and says they use free range egg yolk

retrievermum · 11/08/2024 14:35

@apple67cherry yep it’s fine!

superj21 · 11/08/2024 15:13

@SBelfast I don't have any answers but I'm with you on the bump! I can no longer lie face down as it feels like I'm lying on a tennis ball. It probably just looks like I had a big lunch though 😂 I'm 14 weeks tomorrow.
