Happy Sunday ladies!
Do people notice a bump/clothes less fitting? I'm 14 weeks today and my clothes been ill fitting for a while, but before being pregnant I had really bad bloating and ofc it's bad now. So hard for me to tell what's bloat vs bump.
I'm feeling like a frump so thought it might be a good time to start buying maternity clothes. I imagine will be so comfortable might want to always wear them with my bloating lol.
Got a few questions was hoping someone might know answers to 😊

  • any nice/not overly expensive brands
  • any UK high street retailers who stock maternity wear in store (so can try fit)
  • recommendations on sizing?
  • recommendations on staples? Was thinking a pair of leggings and jeans, dress, and a few tops

😊

Yep, clothes are getting in comfy- especially my normal leggings and jeans! This is my first one, so I’m figuring it out too, but all the advice I’ve had from friends is to avoid buying much maternity clothes and just get stuff 1-2 sizes bigger. So I’ve opted for a couple of bigger dresses from Vinted, a pair of dungarees in a size up, plus some baggy t shirts.

Although I have bought maternity leggings, because my usual ones have a waistband that definitely isn’t going to stretch with me 🙈 And think I’ll get maternity jeans after 20 weeks. Hopefully that will see me through!

Hello! Lots to catch up on today :)

Re movement...14wks and deffo feeling "pops" like bubbles lower left hand side where baby is. Third pregnancy and baby is very very active hence my cr@p scan pics - it won't stay still lol so I do think it's early movement I'm feeling.

Re maternity wear...ladies, get onto vinted. I bought a bundle of 5 pairs of jeans and 10 tops for £21 inclusive of postage. It was all from next and jojo mama bebe. My friend has said there is a good sale on in asda and she's bought maternity undies in there which I still need to get. I plan to get some chunky knit wear as well, maybe just sizing up in regular fit with that though. X

I can't fit in hardly any of my normal clothes now apart from lots of stretchy or floaty summer dresses which I am living in (non maternity)

I've dug out my old maternity clothes but a lot of the stuff I kept was old smart work clothes but I no longer work in an office so sold most of those.

Vinted is great for picking up bits especially when you've already tried brands for sizing.

H&M/ New Look/ ASOS are great for staple items.
I'm sticking to leggings (I wore them post partum a lot too) Lovell ones are my favourite. Lots of baggy tshirts/jumpers for winter, stretchy dresses that you can throw shirt/jumper over when it's colder or wear with tights.

There are quite a few sales on at the moment so I've been stocking up, not many highstreet stores stock maternity I just end up ordering loads and returning them.**

Morning, so had my scan yesterday and all was okay 😍 12 weeks exactly yesterday!
After 2 missed miscarriages this scan was very nerve wrecking. She did all the checks though and all is looking good.

Got my actual NHS scan a week today. So hoping that's okay too.

I have just invested in some beyond nine cotton dungarees - not maternity and I went up a size (they’re actually massive!) so my hope is they’ll do now, pregnancy and be loose and comfy for post birth and breastfeeding too. Not cheap, BUT I know they’ll last long term

Very few places have maternity in store annoyingly! I think some massive H&M’s do? And the odd Primark. It’s very annoying.

Last pregnancy I got a pair of maternity jeans off ASOS and they lasted me straight through pretty much. I got some cheap bits from boohoo, leggings and plain t shirts mainly. New look have some nice pregnancy bits, I got some nice tops for work and some good nursing bits too.

I bought a bundle off eBay first time round and that was very cost effective! Can usually shop some good bargains as people want rid once they’re done having babies!

ridl14 · 12/08/2024 11:11

Thanks so much @LilacSnail @OrangeSlices998! I have been feeling really guilty about considering medication like you should only take it if you "really need it" and I know some women have it a lot worse than me so I should just tough it out. But you're right, I am the only one it's affecting as long as it's considerate safe for the baby! It's been mentally really draining as well, it's so frustrating having to think about food all the time and what I might be able to stomach actually eating and will I keep it down.

I'm at 12+4 today, NHS scan is on Wednesday so I've bought anti nausea bracelets and told myself I'd see how I felt in the days after the scan. Apparently we can stop taking folic acid after 12 weeks as well? I've been taking it with dinner but happy to stop if my midwife says it's okay as I know it can make us nauseous too.

I think my bloat is turning into a small bump atm but it definitely just looks like I've gained weight just on my stomach I think 😂 I can still wear trousers and more elastic leggings but it's just an uncomfortable pressure on my lower abdomen so I'd like to at least get some maternity leggings soon. I'd love some tent dresses atm because I feel like I don't want anything vaguely elasticated or tight touching my body 😂 work wear is going to be fun! I've definitely been browsing on Vinted as well, there's some good bundle deals

Lulahoop · 12/08/2024 13:00

I had my 12 week scan today - I was soo anxious beforehand for something being wrong but everything was perfect and the baby was moving so much, I really didn't expect it to move so much! How amazing. Measuring 12+6 with a due date of 18th Feb!
So relieved and grateful.

On the subject of clothes/bloating/bump, I have always carried most of my weight in my tummy but lately am so bloated I look huge, I work in a restaurant and customers keep commenting on it / me being pregnant. Now I'm 12 weeks I feel like I can say yes I am but I find it so rude that complete strangers feel it's okay to comment on someone elses body. It's happened many times in the past when I wasn't pregnant and when we were trying to concieve it was heartbreaking! I never really know what to say but feel I should say mind your own business or you shouldn't ask that?!

I always wear loose clothing anyway so I'll probably just continue that.
Might be nice when I have got a proper bump to wear some more fitted clothes to show it off and not worry about people thinking I'm pregnant when I'm not!!!

Anyone got any recommendations for work maternity wear? I need to wear smart clothes and all of my usual trousers are too tight to wear. i got one pair of black maternity trousers from asda which are quite good but I need a couple more options.

@Lulahoop I've also had my 12 week scan today and am due the 19th. It made the pregnancy feel much more real! I've been fortunate to not have had too many symptoms but that also made me worried something was wrong so such a relief to her "one baby and a heartbeat"

Any nub theorists fancy a guess at the sex?

I believe you have a boy :)

ThisLimeDeer · 12/08/2024 15:36

Hi everyone!
I’ve been quiet on this thread for a few weeks but I have been reading. It’s lovely to see all the scan photos!

According to my private scan which I had at ‘5 weeks 3 days’ I should be 10 weeks 6 days today…however I’ve just had my 12 week NHS scan today and guess what? Turns out I am actually 12 weeks pregnant now!! I’m so happy and relieved as this is more in line with when I thought I ovulated. The private scan had me a little bit worried…

Everything looked good today and we were so grateful! The NT measurement was 1.4 and my blood sample has been taken for the combined test so fingers crossed everything comes back fine…

Below is our scan photo, my mum and a friend of mine think it’s a boy!!

I have to wear smart office attire and have got some maternity black trousers and for now until as long as possible I plan to wear my normal blouses and tops with those. I have purchased some dresses which will be ok with tights, shoes and blazer etc for when I get bigger and it's colder. Dressing smart while growing is quite difficult I think! Check out vinted, there was so much on there, I got a bundle of 6 work dress for £15.

apple67cherry · 12/08/2024 16:54

Isabella Oliver do some very smart and stylish maternity clothes. Not cheap but I felt great in them, very different from the floaty florals and stripes you usually see.

Congratulations!! I though for sure I was having a boy, but turns out it's a girl!

QuantumPanic · 12/08/2024 19:00

We received both our NHS combined test and NIPT results today - low risk for everything, which is reassuring. NIPT was through window to the womb and the results just say 'low risk' - no numbers (e.g. 1/1000) attached. Those who've had the NIPT (through whatever provider) - did you get numbers? 🤔

We also found out we are having a girl! I'm shocked - I thought for sure it was going to be a boy. Absolutely delighted. And I can't believe how much more real it feels now, having screening results and a due date and knowing the sex!

ab03 · 12/08/2024 20:46

Hey all, lovely to see all the scan photos and gender results coming through! I'm 13 weeks with my 2nd baby and had just relaxed after scan and 'low' chance screening, but the downs syndrome result has just come through as 1 in 207... To me that sounds really high, considering the other result is 1 in 41,000, and in my last pregnancy they were both around 1 in 10,000!

I'm considering paying for an NIPT but don't know if I'm being silly if the NHS classes it is a low chance. My husband thinks as we wouldn't abort anyway it's pointless having the test but I can't stop worrying. Wondering whether anyone else had a similar number?

LilacSnail · 12/08/2024 20:55

@ab03 my screening results came back as1 in 157 for Downs syndrome which is just outside the cut off for further testing on the NHS. I had the NIPT a few weeks ago which came back as low risk so hoping all is ok.

@QuantumPanic I also went with Window the The Womb and just got all
low risk back.

Lovely to see all these scans and gender results coming in :)

Morning all! It seems lots of us had scans yest! Lovely pics everyone! Had mine too yesterday and measuring exactly 13wks with DD 17/2/24. All looked good so going to go ahead with NIPT booking and hope that’s ok too.
