@Zaliuuu awww wow how nice is that!! I think that's an amazing idea and I would love to do that but she is having to do it all via an egg donor which just makes it so much harder. Gutted for her. Although she told me she's ok about it but you just don't know sometimes how people are feeling deep down. We are quite close (not to go out outside of work but we talk a lot) and she is lovely so I'm sure she will be happy for me but I can't help but feel guilt ☹️

Understandable, I would also feel guilty to express my excitement to the fullest. I'm sure it will be fine in the end. You are very sweet and caring x

@Zaliuuu I have these worries. Mainly about my career and the sick days etc and taking the gap out
I'm also worried about telling my colleagues (my manager already knows but is not telling anyone yet). Mainly worried about telling 1 colleague in particular as she is struggling to conceive 😥 I don't even know how to begin to tell her

This is so thoughtful of you @ploo
My manager has known for the last 4 yrs that I've been going through IVF. In that time, in my small team of 6 I have seen 4 people or their partners get pregnant. I told only one colleague who's sister is also struggling to conceive and he told me on my own a few weeks before telling the rest of the team so I could digest the news. He also asked how I was doing and kept me in his prayers so it's felt very personal. Tbh I was over the moon for them.

I've taken the DE route which only my family are aware of. I would tell her on her own, before the rest of the team and possibly close to the end of the week and day so she can process it alone.

She may be like myself and be pleased and grateful you don't have to take the heartache of ivf because I wouldn't wish fertility struggles on anyone ! However, you just never know when a pregnancy announcement is going to sting that little but harder x

ploo · 22/08/2024 20:33

@Rosequartzz oh bless you!! Thank you so much for sharing that with me.
Yes I was thinking about telling her before I tell anyone else and your perspective in your situation has just confirmed that having that approach is probably the lesser of all evils isn't it. I think I'll try and get an update from her with how it's going so I can pre-empt the situation/reaction first and then a few weeks after that break the news depending on what's going on

@Zaliuuu

Hi, this is my second and I wanted to say juggling work/childcare after maternity leave is probably the thing I'm most nervous about too. It is hard! And having two as well will be an extra level of difficulty! I have a quite senior role now and am hoping I can arrange flexible working but it's not a given. It doesn't get spoken about a lot on these forums but is a big thing to deal with. I'm sure you will be fine, working mums are superstars and we all find a way to manage it but it's not easy!

@eatsleepworkchildcarerepeat I have been in my role for 3 years and recently have been job hunting until I found out I was pregnant.I made up my mind I do not want to return after mat leave. I know financial situation may dictate otherwise, but if we are doing OK. What are your thoughts of me quiting towards my return and looking for a more interesting job? My worry is how would I justify my self at the interviews and how would I interview in general after being one year out 😀

eatsleepworkchildcarerepeat · 23/08/2024 12:17

@Zaliuuu

I think whether it will work job hunting after mat leave is really dependent on both your industry/type of role and also your child. I am considering it too if my current company doesn't allow me the flexibility I want. I think if there are a lot of possible roles I wouldn't worry too much about interviewing because I would apply to lots and you will get into the groove of them if that makes sense, but if there won't be many possible roles for you then it will be harder and put more pressure on the interviews. I definitely wouldn't worry about having taken the time out to have a child, if that is a problem with the employer then they probably won't be the right fit for you! I have interviewed people coming off mat leave for roles before and it shouldn't matter, it is about their experience prior. I have also taken a sabbatical from work to go travelling and it's the same really.

I would make sure you give yourself proper time to settle your baby into childcare (I didn't) and also take into account sleep deprivation can also be a challenge! But I got promoted straight back from mat leave last time, so not unlike starting a new job, my (new to me) manager was very supportive and it all worked out ok

happy to chat more on DMs if you want

BabyH2025 · 24/08/2024 18:05

@ploo thank you 😊the Premom app tells me my due date is 18th April. I’m relieved that most of my pregnancy will be during the colder months, especially as I get bigger. I can imagine it’s quite uncomfortable in hot weather! I’m quite anxious as a few of my friends have had multiple miscarriages, makes me afraid, but they did go on to have healthy babies eventually. My first pregnancy so it’s all so new to me. I’ve been lucky with symptoms so far, if not for sore breasts and bloated belly I would be struggling to believe the tests! Wishing you and everyone here the best of luck in your pregnancies xx

@soymilknosugar Hope your scan went well, I’ve been thinking of you. ❤️🙏

soymilknosugar · 25/08/2024 16:52

@figgyandpig it went really well thanks lovely! ❤️ Confirmed a due date of 28/03 and a strong hb so fab news. Have you got the date for your 12 week scan yet? Xx

figgyandpig · 25/08/2024 17:21

@soymilknosugar Awww yay I’m so pleased 🥰 I bet you’re feeling so relieved. We have the same due date!
ive only just got my first midwife appointment for the 9th sept so will find out after that. We did book another scan in for the 6th sept just incase there’s a delay. Do you have yours?

soymilknosugar · 25/08/2024 18:29

@figgyandpig yeah so relieved!! Lovely that we have the same DD🥰 ah ok, I imagine it will be pretty soon after your midwife appt then - mine is 18th Sept!

ploo · 27/08/2024 20:33

@figgyandpig @soymilknosugar aww that's great news about your scans. So pleased for you 🥰 I've got my date for my 12 week scan too. It came a few days after my booking appointment. It all feels very real now

@BabyH2025 yeah I was pregnant with my first born over winter and I think I had a much more 'pleasant' experience than some of the pregnant women I've seen out and about recently. Ahh yeah first pregnancies are absolutely nerve wracking. I remember it like it was only a few weeks ago. Still is nerve wracking being pregnant with my 2nd but not half as much. You've just got to try and think positive. Hopefully everything will work out fine. And we're all going through the same/similar so we're always here for support if you need it 😊 xx

I'm 10 weeks today too ! I'm definitely bigger from bloating and meds, however no prominent baby bump. My 'bump' is still very low and I can see the change over the weeks.

I also found that I've got less nausea, no sickness and less tiredness since yesterday. Hopefully it wasn't just a one day wonder, how are you doing with symptoms ?

Yes! First pregnancy I had some bloat in the first trimester but didn't get a proper bump for ages.... it was 33+ weeks before I looked indisputably pregnant and not just a bit fat.

This time round I'm 9 weeks and I swear I'm showing already. I'm really struggling to hide it from people

InvisibleDragon · 28/08/2024 10:56

@ploo I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and definitely bigger than I was first time round. I think it's a mixture of a tiny little bump, bloating and some additional weight gain because I've been feeling so hungry. Switching from carby snacks to veggies so I can graze all day to keep nausea at bay but without all the calories of mini cheddars and cookies!

I quite like my mini bump - feel like I know it's there but it's not really obvious yet. Not feeling comfy in my body or clothes though. Everything fits differently and I feel scruffy and frumpy all the time. Thinking I might need to get some nice maternity pieces that I really love sooner rather than later!

Anticipationstation · 28/08/2024 15:12

How are you all?

@figgyandpig and @soymilknosugar my early scan gave an EDD of 28/03 too!

I’m definitely with all of you in feeling like I look pregnant already! Pretty sure it’s just bloating and weight gain though. Ploughing through the beige carbs in a desperate attempt to stop the vomiting.

Have booked a last minute holiday in October and slightly panicking about what to wear. Obviously I know I shouldn’t complain, but I’ve never really been pregnant in hot weather and not sure my default leggings and massive jumpers will work on the beach. Please share your maternity wear tips so that I can avoid the fat slug look!

Not sure on the climate where you are going but I live overseas and it's currently 40 degrees here.
Floaty summer dresses are my best friends even in the first trimester, I can't stand anything tight or clingy at the moment as it's too hot and I'm too uncomfortable with morning sickness and nausea.
I'm just in normal dresses, not maternity wear yet oand have dresses I can dress up or down for day or night.
A also have a couple of playsuits I can still get into although I'm going to the toilet more and more so getting less practical. No way I'm wearing leggings or jeans yet because a) I'm a hot, sweaty mess and b) too tight round my belly

Thank you! You’re amazing to cope in that heat. I swear I’m boiling in the grim British summertime - could be the massive sweaters though! 😂

Am going to have a lookout for some floaty cotton dresses that can conceal bra straps. Definitely won’t want anything clingy! Jumpsuits are a good idea too, as long as easy to escape from…
