Anyone else due January 2025?

I’m coming up to 16 weeks with my second. This time seems to be flying by as life is much busier with a nearly 2 year old!

Luckily, felt pretty much fine the whole way through so far, albeit being tired. However, I was diagnosed with GD and currently diet controlled, which is bit of a bummer.

How are you feeling?

@Uguberry with my first, I had on and off contractions that close together for a few hours over a few nights, so I was waiting for them to continue for over 2 hours or being unable to breathe through them.

If I didn’t fall back asleep and they had continued, I would have gone back in, but my waters haven’t gone yet or I didn’t have my bloody show (have had it this morning), so had a feeling they’d stop.

@Firsttimetrier Ah okay, it's good to know that can happen. I hope you don't have too much waiting around and things get moving more quickly now!

BeLemonQuoter · 03/01/2025 11:24

Thank you for the updates @Firsttimetrier. It is good to know what should I expect next week. My mum had the same with me. Her contractions started the day before, then stopped, then restarted next day and I was born.

My hospitals protocol is to start with hormones and I will be kept on the ward while waiting for something to happen. I am kinda looking for it. I will have my own room for the beginning. It will be almost like staying in a hotel 😀.

Firsttimetrier · 03/01/2025 11:58

@BeLemonQuoter you can ask about non-hormonal inductions, it’s up to you. The foley balloon I’ve heard is quite painful, but I would recommend the dilapan rods. Felt like a smear test when going in and as they gradually increase in size, I can’t feel them.

I was induced last time with the pessary and then hormone drip and this time is 1000% better! It’s also nice being able to come home and relax in my own environment, which I couldn’t do with hormonal inductions.

Thank you, this is good to know. I will read about them again and might ask them if I can, although I preferred the hormonal option if I remember well

4 more days until my due date and definitely feeling the effect of having a due date. Even though it is estimated you kinda feel that's the day and people keep asking if the baby is here yet.

My next appointment is to discuss options regarding a sweep, and book an induction for week 41. It seems a bit overwhelming to think about an induction now, I'd like for things to happen naturally but as the midwife said, some babies need an eviction notice 😄

BeLemonQuoter · 04/01/2025 13:17

@92Char 4 more days for my induction and I am hoping for going onto labour spontaneously, but doesn't look like it.

Unless it counts that I am really in nesting mode now, and I am eating all the snacks from my hospital bag...

Mama2b99 · 04/01/2025 18:37

Is it true that first time mums usually go overdue? Has anyone experienced this with their first? If not when did you go into spontaneous labour with firsts?

Mama2b99 · 05/01/2025 18:34

@Firsttimetrier Hey how's everything! Have you met baby yet?

Firsttimetrier · 05/01/2025 20:17

Hey @Mama2b99 I have!

Unfortunately, had a very dramatic delivery which has resulted in a stint in NICU, but things are looking more positive.

Please skip if you are still waiting for baby to arrive and don’t want to read all the details!

Baby experienced multiple drops in his heart rate immediately after having my waters broken at 4pm.
Was quickly advised by a room of doctors that a VBAC wasn’t wise and got quickly prepped for theatre.
During the prep, he had massive drops again and suddenly became a category 1 emergency and he was here by 6pm.
I was able to have some skin to skin and do one feed whilst being stitched up and on the recovery ward and he’s good a great latch.
He was admitted to NICU by 7.30pm for brain tests and heart monitoring for 7 hours but got the positive news both have come back normal!

He was discharged from NICU yesterday evening and on the postnatal ward with us.
We should hopefully be allowed home within 24 hours once we get some other test results back, which will find out why he reacted this way to labour.

Feeling a lot more positive about everything, but couldn’t stop being sick from anxiety (and the section drugs) for several hours.
Honestly, absolutely nothing but positive words for the NHS and the midwives we have dealt with so far, they’ve been amazing.

I am so glad everything turned out all right at the end, @Firsttimetrier. It sounds very scary, I think you must be very brave, can't find better word, to be able to go through this!

Sarah268 · 05/01/2025 21:01

@Firsttimetrier oh my gosh that sounds very intense. Well done for getting through that! Congrats on your little one!

ChirpyTurtle · 06/01/2025 12:40

@Firsttimetrier congratulations on the birth of your little one. It sounds very stressful! I hope you and the baby are doing better today and that the next round of tests goes ok and you get back home soon!

This should help: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-due-dates/

It says first time mums on average give birth at 40+5 and not on the 40.

The Evidence on: Due Dates

What is an estimated due date, and how is it determined? What are the risks of going past your due date? Does induction increase the risk of Cesarean? At which point do the benefits of being electively induced outweigh the risks? Does a person’s goals...

I had my baby last Monday (30th December), due 14th January! Spontaneous labour, my waters broke on the morning of the 29th, cramps started that afternoon. Contractions intensified around 11pm/12 midnight. I was 4cm dilated at 3am, and delivered a beautiful baby boy ar 4am. All in all very fast as I was not in any significant pain until around 11pm. More like period cramps up until then!

BeLemonQuoter · 06/01/2025 15:19

Congratulations @ttcnumero1, I hope all of us have such an easy delivery

ChirpyTurtle · 06/01/2025 17:00

Congratulations @ttcnumero1!

BigDeanWinchesterFan · 06/01/2025 17:23

Congratulations @Firsttimetrier, I hope you're all doing as well as you can be now

Congratulations to you too @ttcnumero1

Exciting times!

Mama2b99 · 07/01/2025 16:05

Booked induction on 19/01 anyone else going in for induction ?

BeLemonQuoter · 07/01/2025 19:37

@Mama2b99 I am going in for induction in an hour. I am pretty nervous and stressed in a weird way.

I had might cramps and contractions today, so I hope that maybe me, my womb and the baby are already preparing for labour anyway.

I am also afraid that I am having antenatal depression for the last couple of days as I feel really emotional in any kind of negative way.

Hey any updates on how its going?? Is it the prostine gel? Any progression?

BigDeanWinchesterFan · 08/01/2025 06:42

We had a surprise arrival late Monday night, 4 days before my section date. Fortunately they still did the section and everything seems OK

BigDeanWinchesterFan · 08/01/2025 06:44

@BeLemonQuoter hope you're doing OK? Hopefully the hormones and its short term for you? I think I.felt a bit like that looking back, everything bad felt really big

Uguberry · 08/01/2025 10:08

Congratulations @Firsttimetrier @ttcnumero1 @BigDeanWinchesterFan to you all! Thank you for sharing, such different birth experiences and I'm so happy everyone has their little ones safe in their arms. I hope you are all recovering well 💕

@BeLemonQuoter How are you doing? Mention to your doctor about how you've been feeling - hopefully it's from anxiety about the induction and birth and won't continue, but I'm sure with everything else going on it's easy to view as low priority when really it's always important to mention to someone so they can keep checking in.

Happy due date @92Char any signs yet?

ChirpyTurtle · 08/01/2025 10:39

@BigDeanWinchesterFan congratulations! Glad to hear everything is going ok after your surprise arrival.

@BeLemonQuoter hope you’re doing ok.
