We’re not even able to self-refer until after 6 weeks round here and then they normally book in a ‘booking’ appointment for 8 weeks and then scan and the optional bloods (for checking the main trisomies).

This time I’m under the Early Pregnancy Unit so have been asked to go in for a scan at 6 weeks. If at waiting to see if they’ll prescribe progesterone.

After my previous losses, I now don’t worry about keeping my pregnancy a secret and I have a group of friends and family who already know: the advice to not tell people until after 12 weeks is in case something goes wrong and I think it is important to have people to talk to if things don’t go to plan.

@PeachMartin I'm sorry you are getting anxious. Postnatal depression/anxiety is quite well covered now but you can get prenatal depression and anxiety too.
It's worth talking to your GP or midwife. There are mental health midwives to support women with mental illness in pregnancy.
You can self refer for therapy and you should be prioritised as a pregnant (also for perinatal period too) woman.
I had self referral CBT during my first pregnancy unfortunately for me it wasn't helpful as the prescreening questionnaire didn't correctly determine that it would be unsuitable for me at the time. I was miserable because of pregnancy and how pregnancy was limiting me plus it was 2020 so the pandemic too. It did start within a few weeks of the referral being made.

If it is more significant anxiety there are medications that are safe in pregnancy and there is the perinatal mental health team that can offer support from pregnancy up to 1 or 2 years post birth depending on the area.

Thank you and to everyone else that has posted advice. It’s so nice to know everyone is here to support each other. I have self referred for talking therapy and downloaded the headspace app for the time being. I’m normally very good at managing my stress and anxiety by running 4-5 times a week but injured my knee a couple of weeks before finding out I was pregnant. I have by booking appointment in a couple of weeks so will bring it up with the midwife. Thanks again everyone 🩷

What are views on holidays when pregnant? We've a city break in central Europe booked for August, seeing a few different places over the course of a week. Worried about the temperature, the walking etc.

I'm currently in CDMX so wanted to jump in! We've still been having a good time and had the holiday booked before finding out I was pregnant but I was very close to getting us to postpone the dates before the trip.

We're away during my week 8 going into week 9 and I have found it a lot harder trying to find food I can stomach, we've been having to plan our days around what beige thing I can snack on to a timer to try and cope with the nausea. I'm usually really even too active walking on holidays and love finding hole in the wall places to eat and try and see as much of the 'local' experience as I can. I've had to slow down so much, do really one trip or sightseeing thing a day, get Ubers around instead of lots of walking. It's rainy season here and I've still felt close to overheating quite a few times even though normally I'm quite happy even in top 30 degree heat (38-40). I'm also having to take 1-3 naps a day, usually one after breakfast, one when we come back in the afternoon and one in the evening.

If I could have predicted the future I would have aimed for us to go away during the second trimester, I've heard (but can't say, this is my first) that it's a lot easier. Still making the most of it and having a good time but I've had to accept a lot of compromises and when the nausea has been at its worst it has felt like great we've spent money for me to be ill abroad! But still have had some cool experiences and I've been glad we didn't cancel.

Hi guys,
Hope you’re all well! I’m joining the March club ok with an EDD if 27th :-)
I got my faint bfp 12dpo afternoon, confirmed 13dpo morning on a CB, and this morning I did a CB digital on 14dpo. It says 1-2 weeks.. from LMP I think I’m 4+6, should that mean the digital should say 2-3 weeks? Bit nervous as I had an EMC in April.
Thanks for anyone’s advice in advance! x

@Boymum3722 congratulations! Are your cycles usually on the longer side? I think the cycle start date is only an indication as cycle lengths vary. I'm still working off my ovulation date as I know when I ovulated and have 12 days between my period and ovulation. So I tested when my period was due two days ago and got my positive (1-2 weeks). That puts me at 14DPO today which for a standard cycle would be 4 weeks. But my cycles are longer so I'm actually 4+6 today based on my cycle start. My test on 12DPO said 1-2 weeks as expected. I'll hold off using a digital for a couple of days and then hopefully will get a 2-3 weeks.

Thank you so much for replying! My cycles are around 29 days on average (sometimes can be 32), I had my peak ovulation on an OPK on 7/7 so Flo put actual ovulation day at 8/7, making me 14dpo today. Do you think because it’s only 2 weeks from conception that’s why it’s saying 1-2 weeks then? It’s confusing! I was due on on the 17th/18th July so that puts me as 4 days late (2 days if it was a longer cycle).

Yes the amount of HCG the digital test is detecting its based off levels since implantation. The time between last period and ovulation is irrelevant. So you could have had a 50 day cycle and still get 1-2 weeks if you test 12-14 days after ovulation. My cycles are a similar length to yours, I ovulate around cycle day 18 usually. Whereas the "normal" is day 14 which is why they date pregnancies from 2 weeks before ovulation as most people are more likely to know their last period instead of ovulation date. I ovulated on the 8th this month too so we should have the same due date! Think it's right at the end of March. Could even by an early April baby.

Hey, I reached 8 weeks yesterday. After my previous miscarriage in February, I was feeling hopeful that this was a strong pregnancy and have suffered really bad nausea. On Saturday night I was in absolute disbelief when I wiped to see lots of mucus light brown discharge and it has been the same since then. I am so terrified this is the start of a second miscarriage and I don’t know what to do with myself. I saw the heartbeat at 6.5 weeks and all was looking good. I’m hoping they will book me in for another scan today. I’m struggling to cope with this worry whilst feeling awful and looking after my toddler. I guess I am just looking for some support from or reassurance during this really difficult time :(

I'm so sorry what a worry for you. Have you contacted epu? Do you have any cramps? I'm sure they'll get you in for a scan. Explain how anxious you are too.

Do you have anything to keep you occupied whilst you wait?

Melusina123 · 22/07/2024 09:28

@ninaballerina12 so stressful, I'm sorry. Hope you get a scan ASAP. Two points of reassurance - I had red bleeding that went to brown spotting from 6-9wks last pregnancy and it was completely fine, uneventful pregnancy after that. And second I read somewhere (maybe Tommy's ?) that c 16% of "threatened miscarriages" ie bleeding/cramps turn into actual miscarriages. So the odds are on your side!

Boymum3722 · 22/07/2024 09:41

@CatmumTTC thank you for explaining! I think I ovulated CD20. And yay due date twins! I’m going to test again in a few days. Going away with family tomorrow so I’m going to have to tell my dad and stepmum which isn’t ideal this early on!

@ninaballerina12 sorry that you are going through this stress, I hope you can get another scan asap. Like the others said, the odds are in your favour so try to stay positive 🙏

ninaballerina12 · 22/07/2024 09:46

Thanks so much for your replies, I’m really touched and appreciate the support. I am actually sat in the EPU clinic now, it sounds like it will be quite the wait but I’m pleased to be here. They are going to scan me and then if it’s looking ok then prescribe progesterone. Thank god for the NHS!

I haven’t had any cramping yet but I didn’t have any with my last MC weirdly.

That’s reassuring thanks @Melusina123 I must admit my mind is jumping to worst case scenario which isn’t helpful! I always appreciate hearing success stories. I did have some spotting with my DS but that was around the 5 week mark and short lived. I would’ve thought 8 weeks is a bit late for implantation and haven’t done anything to irritate cervix etc. I will keep you all posted xx

I think the issue is the group is set to hidden so it can only be found by members. Means it isn't loading for invites to join.

I had to be added as a friend to join. Is there any way of changing from hidden to people with a link can join @Zuzu2020

@ninaballerina12 is this how your last miscarriage started?

Having ransacked google and old threads on here over the last few days, brown spotting is definitely fine in lots of cases . Really hope this works out well for you. Miscarriage rates after seeing a heart beat plummet.

I'm also currently playing the waiting game. I went to an EPU walk-in on Friday because of left side cramping and brown spotting, hoping to rule out ectopic and get additional progesterone if it was warranted. Dreadfully they couldn't see anything at all, in either my uterus or fallopian tubes and I was given a Pregnancy of Unknown Location leaflet in a quiet room. They phoned with my HCG and progesterone results on Saturday (507 and 63) and said they were tentatively positive - because the gestational sac isn't usually visible until 1000-1500 HCG - and I didn't seem to be miscarrying.

I was only 4 weeks 5 days (going by my known ovulation date rather than last menstrual start date) and am booked in for another scan with them on Thursday to hopefully find something in the correct location and rule out ectopic.

(The EPU walk-in also confirmed that spotting and cramping are fairly common btw.)

ninaballerina12 · 22/07/2024 10:37

@sirensong I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through turmoil as well, the uncertainty is so so tough! Your blood results sound really reassuring though and hopefully the scan results were because you are so early on in your pregnancy. I have absolutely everything crossed for your next scan and hope the time goes quick for you!

My last MC started with small amounts of pink / brown intermittent spotting each day over a few weeks until it gradually increased and started turning red. I think that’s why I’m freaking out as it feels like life repeating itself and I was starting to feel “safer” at 8 week mark. I have been trawling through threads too and sounds like spotting can also be common, let’s hope🤞

Sorry to bring the mood down, has anyone else noticed that their anxiety is through the roof? Not necessarily worrying about pregnancy related issues either. Not sure if it’s the hormones but feel like I can barely function at times due to the constant worries circling around my head. Any advice would be amazing.

Hi @PeachMartin – I'm 100% with you here. Not necessarily pregnancy focused (some are, the vast majority are not). I've struggled with anxiety for years and have diagnosed OCD that is managed through medication. In preparing for my pregnancy, I spent many appts speaking to my GP about how to safely manage this from a medication POV, and in CBT.
I struggled so severely with my mental health when we got pregnant over a year ago I had to have a termination for my own safety, it was really scary.
This time, even though I feel more prepared and have spent the last year getting 'match fit' (!) there's still days where I just want to crawl out of my own skin. At my booking appt I spoke to my midwife about it, and she referred me to the perinatal MH team. My GP has considered upping my medication (which we discussed before pregnancy, so I was reassured I had that as an option in my back pocket). Even though I'm assured there's a belt and braces approach, it still hurts. I want to be normal and enjoy pregnancy, but it just rattles my brain a little harder than usual.
Things that are helping me: keeping busy at work, checking in with my husband regularly, exercising, lots of time outside, and reading anything and everything that ISN'T PREGNANCY RELATED, taking medication, speaking to my GP, proactively chasing my perinatal MH referal.
One things that's made me feel so much better is that I have a close friend with a similar MH diagnosis as me, and she said as soon as she got to the end of the first trimester she felt normal again. Honestly, girl. Hormones are wild.
Sending love and support xx

@ninaballerina12 im so sorry to hear of your struggle if it’s any help I bleed on and off from about 8-9 weeks to full term around my usual period for all 4 of my pregnancies but other than hg which is excessive and constant vomitting and nausea for me all my babies are happy and healthy there now 3 10 14 and 15 really thought I was done with babies but my ex decided he no longer wanted children he couldn’t bare the burden and left on Boxing Day last year me on the other hand love children if it wasn’t for hg I would have had more I have never understood my ex partners concern as I’m the main bread winner have run 2 businesses at one point 3 to top up income now back to 2 the kids have attended semi private schools I have covered all the family bills including his desires for designer items because I dressed the kids in designer he thought it’s only fair I covered his expenses but enough of my ranting fast forward and I have some spotting again and I hit 8 weeks today I did have one private clinic tell me that when the embryo is growing it’s sometimes a small tear on the lining of the uterus wall as it expands to make room for baby or then old blood from implantation if it’s brown please do update us waiting on some good news xx

ninaballerina12 · 22/07/2024 13:06

@Saim86 thanks for your message! Wow, hats off to you for doing it all, your children are very lucky to have such a wonder mum! Sorry to hear that you suffered with HG. Do you have it in this pregnancy? I have had persistent nausea and that’s felt rough enough! I can’t imagine! I hope your spotting settles soon and you have a relaxed pregnancy.

I am so pleased to update that it was good news today, baby measuring on track at 8+3 and started progesterone now. Just about to read up on any side effects and what to expect! I still won’t feel out of the woods until some more time has passed without any spotting but reassured for now. Thanks again for all your support, it really helped reading the messages feeling nervy in the waiting room! 😊

sirensong · 22/07/2024 13:14

@ninaballerina12 Amazing! What a relief.

Did they offer the progesterone automatically as a precaution or did you specifically request it? They seemed to think I didn't need it because my level was 63 but I'm still wondering.
