Sorry guts I've put a new one as after 20 clicks it expires

The link doesn't seem to work, what's the name? X

CatmumTTC · 21/07/2024 14:30

@LemonBitter congratulations! Yes feels super early for me too. I think I'll wait another week until I tell the GP and track my lines in the meantime. It's this your first? I'm 34 and it's my first.

Was not planning on telling my parents early but I'm meant to be going on holiday to Estonia with them in 10 days which would be week 6 and we are quite active sight seeing tourists so would probably need to explain myself if I'm not up for all the things mum has planned!

Think I'll wait to tell other close friends and family after that, maybe get a private 8 week scan just to give me peace of mind. Can't imagine waiting until 12 weeks, feels like I very long way away!

Also feel you on the bloating! Also feel nauseous that comes and goes but can't tell if that's just anxiety/excitement/looking for symptoms.

InvisibleDragon · 21/07/2024 15:05

Tried to join the FB group but I don't think the link is working?

Also not sure when to contact the midwife service. With my first (now 2) I called right away before I was even 5 weeks. Tbh I might do the same this time just because I might get more choice of appointment times then!

My first community midwife was so lovely, but we've moved to a different area since then. Feeling a bit sad that I won't be with the same team!

My main symptom at the moment is really disrupted sleep. Been waking up super early and struggling to get back to sleep. Had this loads last time too.

For worrying/anxiety, I sometimes find asking myself "can I do anything about this worry?" (Excessive googling does not count). If I can, I try to do it. If I can't I try to forget it and move on.

Also find this Winnie the Pooh quote quite helpful for when my brain comes up with a totally ludicrous worry ...

I popped into the GP at 5 weeks to fill in the form to see the midwife. She phoned me at 6 weeks and saw me for my booking appointment this week at 7 weeks. I will get the date for my 12 week scan in the next week.
She sent me through the free prescription certificate via email after the phone call at 6 weeks so I now get free prescriptions and dental. Something to consider if you have prescriptions to get this sorted early!

Re telling people aside from our parents I made the decision to tell people when the answer that made the most sense is "I'm pregnant". One of my colleagues knows as she heard me throwing up at work and she was checking I'm ok. I didn't tell my parents until 17 weeks last time and I would like to do the same this time and they are unbearable. My in-laws knew after the first scan. I've had to tell my boss and last time I told a couple of colleagues after I had to ask them to do some lab work for me. I'm much more comfortable telling acquaintances and colleagues than family as they aren't as invested!

wildhay · 21/07/2024 16:22

Hi, tentatively joining, it was my official test date for a frozen embryo transfer this morning and got a dye stealer 🥰 testing positive since 3 days past transfer! I have a 3yo girl already keeping me busy. Due 26th March 🙏

Downtherabbithole83 · 21/07/2024 16:50

Hi all, nervously joining at 4 weeks and 5 days… (I think due date will be 25th March) got a dye stealer on my cheapie test yesterday so finally willing to admit this might be happening. Congrats to all of you!

I’ve got two children (5 and 7) from my ex and then, with my current partner, we lost our last pregnancy at 14 weeks due to chromosomal issues in Nov 22 - I’ve had 5 chemical pregnancies since then but this time the lines have progressed well and I’m starting to feel a bit hopeful…

I’m 41 - any others on here at the ‘older’ end of things?

Zuzu2020 · 21/07/2024 17:03

Hi guys if you want to be added to the FB group and I don't respond or the latest link I've posted isn't working you can also message @Beth06 and she'll be able to send you the link via email.

Congratulations everyone. I have been very quiet and for some reason feeling really nervous and down. I am 5+4 by LMP but more likely 5+3/2. I still don’t have any symptoms and the sore boobs I have had from 9dpo seem to be very on and off. The lack of symptoms and the just not feeling pregnant is really getting to me. I have a scan at 7 weeks booked and feel like there will be nothing there. I had a chemical last month at 4+1 and the lines disappeared whereas these are really dark and I have got a 3+ on a digi. I don’t know why I can’t be happy or excited, my BF doesn’t understand why I feel like this. I have had my scan letter for 12 weeks and the fact I am under a consultant. Assuming because I had gestational diabetes previously and will be 40 when I deliver. Does anyone else feel like this? I really thought I would feel different x

HRHXO · 21/07/2024 17:27

@Zuzu2020 I'd love to join but I haven't logged into FB for yearssss (does it automatically these days lol). I don't even know how to DM you on here. Can you message me, please? X

MarchingOnwards · 21/07/2024 17:35

Hi all, tentatively joining here as I’m currently 6w+5, due date 12 March ☺️

This is my third pregnancy after two missed miscarriages, I’m nearly 35 so luckily have been referrered to recurrent miscarriage and have been put on Progesterone and high dose folate. Is anyone else on these or have been before? I’m also taking baby aspirin.

I don’t have many symptoms yet, apart from being more tired and sometimes tender boobs and cramps. Due to my previous losses and lack of symptoms I’m naturally starting to spiral with worry 🙃, so thought I’d join this thread as first trimester can be quite a lonely place

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy pregnancy! X

Hi, in a very similar position, 7 weeks today, just a bit younger (33) and only had one missed miscarriage so far.

However absolutely in the same boat in terms of symptoms. I wish I actually did have morning sickness so I would feel more pregnant, as ridiculous as that sounds! I need to pee more often, I'm tired, sore boobs and bloated, but I had those last time too...

The wait and anxiety is so hard but we have decided to wait on the NHS scan rather than go for an early one. Ignorance is bliss...?

Wishing you the very best of luck with your pregnancy!

PlumpHobbit · 21/07/2024 18:34

Tentatively joining

Think I'm about 3-4, soon to be 4-5 weeks and feel like crap

Not sure if it's just the horrible heat, but I feel queasy, indigestion, don't want to eat but then getting sporadic fits of hunger alternating between not feeling any hunger at all

There's a dinner I usually adore, yet yesterday it was a real chore to eat

Got work tomorrow and not looking forward to sitting there feeling grim. Not yet told anyone there as want to wait for first scan to make sure all ok

Hay-fever is horrendous but tablets I have say not to take when pregnant? Possibly half the contributor for feeling sick due to all the snot from that, plus I don't do well in tbe heat

I've heard back about having a scan, but nothing about blood tests etc, aren't you supposed to have them before the scan? I've tried calling and left a message, bit concerning things aren't being organised at this stage...

MrsWindrush · 21/07/2024 18:41

@PlumpHobbit in my experience with my little boy (born December 22) they just do the bloods at the same time as a scan, nothing to "organise" as it were. Very impressive that you have a scan date already! Usually I think the procedure is your midwife booking appointment (c.8 weeks) and they then refer you for the scan, so you're way ahead already!

HRHXO · 21/07/2024 18:42

@PlumpHobbit I had my bloods first done at my booking in apt at around 8 weeks in my last pregnancy and assuming it will be the same this time. Then first scan around 12ish weeks I think, although I plan to book a private scan for around 8 weeks as well. Sorry you're feeling so rubbish, I felt horrid in my first trimester with my first pregnancy and really hoping I don't feel so bad this time around 😬

Loratidine is the antihistamine of choice in pregnancy. Pop along to your pharmacy tomorrow and have a chat to find what is suitable for you! There are options don't suffer unnecessarily!

Sorry just seen the bloods question too

So I had the bloods for infectious diseases, blood group, anaemia and other things at my booking appointment. I had a sample tube for a urine sample to check for infections. Must be the first pee of the day and return before 12 to the surgery.

After the scan they do bloods to determine risk factors for downs, pateau (sp?) and Edwards syndrome. I sign a consent form for this at my booking appointment.

With my daughter I wasn't told about the bloods at the scan but was sent to the bloods waiting room after the scan. I was also weighed and possibly had my height measured too.

PlumpHobbit · 21/07/2024 18:59

I think I got over excited, so panicked and thought oh I need to get registered etc (doctors seem to have nothing to do with it??). Scan is mid September, so would someone else contact me to do the bloods or do they just do them at the scan

I'm right on the cusp of 30bmi which is really embarrassing so have the 5mg folic acid

I just feel "blurgh" not actually been sick but queasy af, hot flushes, suddenly feeling hungry but not that hungry, also indigestion, and bloating which isn't helping wanting to eat

Not sure how I'm going to feel sitting in the office, was going to go gym this morning with DH but couldn't face it just been lying on the sofa watching the f1

Also the headaches, I'm prone to them anyway and usually use hardcore tablets, it's hard managing on paracetamol

Good to know about the loratadine for hay-fever, that's the one I take usually so will pop to pharmacy tomorrow after work as I need something as at least that will be one less thing to feel grim from

Want to go on holiday in August but holding off booking to see how I feel

LemonBitter · 21/07/2024 19:05

And to you @CatmumTTC ☺️

It's my second but my little one is 5 so feels like a lifetime ago that I did this!

Argh it's a tricky one with holidays isn't it.. maybe see how it goes? You might actually feel ok!!

Yeah I got a scan at about 9 weeks last time as all the nausea stopped so I panicked something was wrong but all was fine thank goodness.

This bit really does drag when you can't tell anyone, from what I remember second trimester was the best one as you can finally tell people you are pregnant / look pregnant but aren't the size of a house yet 🤣

MarchingOnwards · 21/07/2024 19:16

Thank you - you too @bouncingblob !

I know what you mean by ignorance is bliss, we get an 8 week scan under recurrant miscarriage, but we decided not to go for a 6 week scan privately for that reason.

and I’m the same with wishing for more symptoms - I know it’s not always the case, but it would give me reassurance the pregnancy was progressing!

sorry for previous loss, hoping this is the one that sticks for you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The first trimester is rough for sure but be reassured it does get better!
I think with scans and midwife appts it’s VERY dependent on where you live. Where I am they don’t even want to know you until you are at least 6-7 weeks pregnant then you self refer and get a booking in appt around 9weeks.
There are several different sets of bloods they do. At your first midwife appt (booking in) they will do a sort of baseline set of bloods (blood group etc) as well as screening for hiv etc. Then (in my area at least) they do the blood tests for genetic conditions (Down’s syndrome, edwards and patou syndrome I think) on the day of the scan at 12 wks. I am resus -ve so they did more bloods at 16wks to check the babys blood type.

PeachMartin · 20/07/2024 23:20

Sorry to bring the mood down, has anyone else noticed that their anxiety is through the roof? Not necessarily worrying about pregnancy related issues either. Not sure if it’s the hormones but feel like I can barely function at times due to the constant worries circling around my head. Any advice would be amazing.

Sorry to hear this! Anxiety is awful and can be so debilitating. Do you do any meditation/mindfulness? I know it’s not for everyone but evidence has shown it’s really helpful. I was very anxious and had heaps of intrusive thoughts after my last baby and I found doing a short 10 min mediation a day through an app really helped me. I tell patients all the time they should do it but I was genuinely surprised at what a difference it actually made in a short space of time! 😂
Also there is no shame in going to your GP if you are struggling or talking to your midwife. I know locally they will refer you for talking therapy if needed so I presume it’s the same in most other locations.
Lastly don’t hold on to it! Talk to us! We are all here for each other 😊
Hope things get easier soon xx.

Superscientist · 21/07/2024 20:26

@PeachMartin I'm sorry you are getting anxious. Postnatal depression/anxiety is quite well covered now but you can get prenatal depression and anxiety too.
It's worth talking to your GP or midwife. There are mental health midwives to support women with mental illness in pregnancy.
You can self refer for therapy and you should be prioritised as a pregnant (also for perinatal period too) woman.
I had self referral CBT during my first pregnancy unfortunately for me it wasn't helpful as the prescreening questionnaire didn't correctly determine that it would be unsuitable for me at the time. I was miserable because of pregnancy and how pregnancy was limiting me plus it was 2020 so the pandemic too. It did start within a few weeks of the referral being made.

If it is more significant anxiety there are medications that are safe in pregnancy and there is the perinatal mental health team that can offer support from pregnancy up to 1 or 2 years post birth depending on the area.
