I have my booking appointment tomorrow at 7 weeks. I had a phone call last week when she said she would be booking the scans after the appointment. I have a choice of going to the hospital where I will give birth or a close hospital which doesn't have birthing facilities. So I can have scans there but will give birth at the other hospital. Parking at the big hospital is an absolute nightmare so I think I will go to the smaller one for scans.

I would say that if you haven't had confirmation that you have scans booked and haven't heard from midwives by 8 weeks I would chase them for the booking appointment.

Great lines ! have 2 FR left and 2 digits left 😂😂
i know people think testing a lot is stressful but it has honestly helped my anxiety with this BFP. Seeing the progression has been reassuring. I’m still not having any symptoms apart from boobs occasionally hurt and I am so bloated I am unable to suck my tummy in and my jeans are tight from bloating !

I'm pretty much the same with symptoms too and agree that seeing progression helps with anxiety. Although when I got appointments through today my stomach was churning because of what happened before and I just hope all is ok this time. Symptoms meant nothing with my MMC.

I can imagine you must be feeling nervous, but try and take all these as very positive. I’m having a scan in 2 weeks and I am very nervous x

@Joleyjojo hopefully all will be well 🥰

mills1990 · 17/07/2024 20:59

Hello everyone. Just joined Mumsnet and wanted to join this thread as this is my first pregnancy. I had my 7 week scan (which went very well!) on Monday and my due date is 3rd March! 💕

jellyfish2 · 17/07/2024 21:07

@mills1990 congratulations 🥰

Hello guys. Can I ask a quick question about taking antihistamines during pregnancy? What's the advice on that? Is it ok to take them ? Especially I feel like I might need them as the weather is good. And normally I have a bad case of pollen

There should be no problem with that I take them as part of my anti sickness treatment and had 3 healthy babies

m00ngirl · 17/07/2024 23:18

@PregnantNowScrewed congrats! Good to see you back ☺️ please try not to worry - I'm not worried about being dated a whole week behind simply because I've seen that happen so much on Mumsnet and the sizing then be corrected at 12 and 20 week scans. See this thread: Baby is measuring small at 7 weeks scan www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2699110-Baby-is-measuring-small-at-7-weeks-scan

I just hope I do catch up because I'm literally counting down the days to hit 12 weeks so I can be in the safe zone asap and hopefully the nausea / dry retching can end?! Don't want an extra week of this thrown in!

@SharingEasesWorries for hayfever you can also do a nasal cleanse / sinus rinse (you can buy the kit in boots) which helps a lot, or use olbas oil - both natural remedies 🌱

Welcome to new joiners!

7+4 today. Im normally quite a healthy eater and thought I was going to be eating mainly organic fruit and vegetables throughout this pregnancy... 🤣... managed a mound of potato wedges for dinner and am carrying emergency packets of crisps around with me. I need constant grazing to deal with retching, and if it's not beige I can't face it. I don't look great. Waiting for "the glow"... 🫠😂

PregnantNowScrewed · 17/07/2024 23:45

Thanks @m00ngirl. I’ve spent all day googling and I think it’s very clear that if you’re not totally certain of your dates then it’s very easy to be a week out based on LMP because ovulation and implantation can all be very variable, so im
sure absolutely all is fine for you.

In my case though I’m now pretty convinced it’s a bad sign (likely a chromosomal abnormality) because my yolk sac was also a little enlarged. Annoyingly not conclusively - from what I can see <5mm is normal and >6mm is indicative of poor outcomes, and mine is 5.5mm. But that coupled with the discrepancy in dates when I am absolutely certain when I ovulated and had an early positive makes me think that this one is not going to work out. I’d really just like to get it over with at this point but need to wait 2 weeks now for my repeat scan.

Ive had lots of mcs in the past but they were caused by my autoimmune issues - I guess I’m probably due a “normal”
one at some point!

m00ngirl · 18/07/2024 00:05

@PregnantNowScrewed no, I am completely sure of my dates too - I was trying for a year and ovulation testing, tracking everything etc. I do understand why you're anxious but the arguments for reassurance are that this is very common with early measurements and the person doing your scan wasn't concerned - I hope you get some peace of mind from that but I do understand the worry x

EleMar · 18/07/2024 08:46

@PregnantNowScrewed @m00ngirl I also measured a bit behind - I went when I thought I was 6w2 but the sonographer said I was more like 5w (even though there was a fetal pole and heartbeat, which I understand the earliest can be detected is at 5w and a half..). I'm super sure of my dates - confirmed by ovulation strips and temperature (ovusense) and we even didn't do the DTD for a week after ovulation! I was measuring 3.4mm which doesn't seem too far 6w based on my researches online, however my boobs are no longer sore and my nausea has decreased so I'm preparing for the worst (I had a miscarriage in May and my symptoms disappeared almost two weeks before my miscarriage).

The sonographer however kept saying that even if I know for sure when I ovulated I can't calculate how far along I am as I must know my last period date (which I don't know as I had a miscarriage...) 😑🙄

PregnantNowScrewed · 18/07/2024 08:59

Thank you @m00ngirl - I’ve definitely seen absolutely loads of threads on here where the measurements catch up so fingers crossed that’s the case for you - I’m sure they will do.

In my case I’ve had 2 scans and there was consistent growth between them but no catching up, and the yolk sac is also a concern so I think with both those things it can only be bad news. I was initially relieved yesterday but I’m now wishing that it had actually been a conclusive result rather than just this further limbo. The NHS can’t say it’s not a viable pregnancy when they see a heart beat so it’s not really meaningful that they weren’t concerned.

Sorry too that you’re going through it @EleMar. From everything I’ve read it’s basically 50:50 - so many positive outcomes as well as sad ones. Fingers crossed for you!

hopefullyTTC2x · 18/07/2024 09:00

I know I should stop testing but I've only had one dark line and today's looked lighter. Anyone had this before and still had successful pregnancy? Is it every 48 hours HCG doubles? Trying not to overthink and don't know if continuing to test is going to help or make me more stressed now. I know there's nothing I can do to help it just really want this to work out

Due March 2025
Superscientist · 18/07/2024 09:20

The thing about ovulation is you know when your body had sufficient hormones to produce the egg but there will be errors, you know when the sperm was introduced to your womb but they can last for 3 days potentially 5. There is a window of time for them to find one another even when you know the day you had sex

There are errors in the measurements, the sizes are based on average sizes for that gestation. Some will be slower, some will be quicker. So say your little bean was conceived 3 days after sex and is on the slow side of the growth bell curve it's quite easy to be 5+ days out even when you think you have all of the information.

Plus caveat to every thing.... The body is weird don't try to understand it!

EleMar · 18/07/2024 09:39

@PregnantNowScrewed sorry to hear, I know what you mean re wishing for a conclusive answer. Wishing you some certainty one way or another soon!

@Superscientist absolutely! So I don't think for me it's necessarily terrible news (I got a bit more worried as my symptoms are now milder).

I guess my point is that there is more information knowing ovulation day as opposed to only knowing the date of the last period (especially in my case where my periods are irregular). I also felt that 3.4mm + fetal pole + heartbeat doesn't seem consistent with being 5weeks only, unless the sonographer came to this estimate on other data that she didn't tell me. I am regretting the scan now, I should have gone later (but we are going on holiday now and wished to have some info!)

EleMar · 18/07/2024 09:42

@PregnantNowScrewed and of course, I forgot to say, wishing you a positive outcome!

You need to stop testing sweetheart. I get it completely, but it’s just going to make you more anxious! I wouldn’t read anything into that very slight discrepancy.

Yes, it can be mean these reassurance scans don't quite live up to their names!

My sister had an nonviable pregnancy. She had a scan as she was either 4 or 8 weeks based on when she had had sex. She measured 6 weeks. Two weeks later she was still 6 weeks. It was only then that they were concerned about the dates. Being two weeks behind at the first scan was a "let's watch this" rather than there's are problem now. She had horrendous sickness and had lost a stone given she was only 7 to start with she didn't have the weight to lose because of this she chose to terminate rather than waiting to miscarry. Due to health issues even if it was a viable pregnancy she would have had to deliver prematurely, potentially at 24 weeks.

SharingEasesWorries · 12/07/2024 23:37

Hello guys!! Hope you are all doing great. Have you guys had fluctuations in symptoms with having little to no tender boobs at one point during the day to having them tender on another day? Today I have almost not felt any symptoms. However yesterday I felt sick and sore boobs. Also I took a test in the morning which was definitely darker than the one just now in the night.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Me ! It’s doing my head in !! It was easier (in a way?) with my daughter because I never had any symptoms so this is all new for me. Counting the days until my scan!

PregnantNowScrewed · 18/07/2024 11:06

@EleMar if it’s any indication in my first scan the CRL was 2mm and they dated me at 5+1, 8 days later it was 5.9mm with a heartbeat and they dated me at 6+2, so 3.4mm does suggest more than 5 weeks going by those measurements. It can be really hard to be accurate when they are so tiny though.

Youre right @Superscientist that one scan cant be conclusive (unless there is no heartbeat when there definitely should be) which is why they always make you go back to see progression over time. Some people will see that the baby has caught up, and for others it won’t have and it’s just waiting for the inevitable. I’ve had 2 missed miscarriages so annoyingly my body doesn’t seem to recognise when things have stopped progressing. I’ve had 3 MVAs now and don’t want another as each one carries a risk of scarring so think I will ask for medical management this time.

MillieKitty · 18/07/2024 11:11

@hopefullyTTC2x hi lovely, with my last pregnancy I had odd days where the line was lighter and she is now one years old so don't think the worst x

It must be so difficult with multiple losses. I haven't personally experienced it but most of the women I know have had losses. I am from a family that has always spoken about these things which I think can be a good thing.
My mum miscarried sister's twin and she didn't pass the foetus until she gave birth to my sister which made it a very bitter sweet day.
Fingers crossed for you x
