Continuation from thread 7 over here; https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5070517-september-2024-thread-7?page=40

Can't believe we filled the last thread up already feels like it wasn't even made that long ago, gosh time is absolutely flying by!!

@WinsandSam - I'll have to ask about CBT for sure, thanks so much for the recommendation - maybe I'll actually get some help seeing as I'm pregnant!

I've been trying to get mental health support for... Well to be honest since teen-hood and realising my daily crying was not in fact "just my period/puberty" as every doctor told me it was (all males ofc, typical 🙄) so I don't hold out much hope if I'm being honest.
I originally wanted to wait until my MH was sorted before ttc, but after over a decade I was running out of fertile time frankly, so here I am still with crazy anxiety and emotional dysregulation, but what can ya do?! 😅

As requested a new thread for us all! 🥰 can't believe its thread 7 already! Then hopefully by thread 14 we'll all have our babies in our arms talkin...

I am just about to go in for a scan after getting checked yesterday as had pink discharge and reduced movements which were fine but it’s hospital policy to scan after. I’m interested to see if he is head down or not as no one has really said recently.

@Honeyandsunshine1 thats the sort of story I needed to hear as I was induced at 41+5 with my daughter so been hoping to experience a more spontaneous (and not so late) labour this time.

Cinai · 11/07/2024 09:49

@WinsandSam same, I’m also 40. I’m trying to talk with a couple of friends who didn’t found their c section ‘that bad’, but whenever I research it more and read about the whole procedure….😳 But it will soon all be a distant memory and hopefully it’s as they say and the joy of the baby makes us forget everything else.

PoppingUp · 11/07/2024 09:55

Anyone else's partners starting to get a wee bit anxious? My DP has been super chill to date but I think it's starting to hit home for him and he's worrying about how he's going to cope. Obviously a normal way to be feeling about a big life event but I'm not sure the best way to support him with his feelings as at the moment I'm still feeling very chill about it all 😅

WinsandSam · 11/07/2024 09:56

@RosiePH I've found out through growth scans and midwife appointments. She's gone from head down to breach

@Cinai I'm really focussing on positive stories! Watching post section videos online of people who said it was good. Also seems way worse if an emergency section, so discount those ones. My friends/family haven't had any horror stories.
I also looked at the stats that 1 in 2 FTM will need instruments during birth and 1 in 3 will end in an emergency section. So that's reassuring me.
Breathing exercises and a playlist for surgery are meant to be good.
I'll probably have a panic attack the day of/during

longingtobe23 · 11/07/2024 10:13

@RosiePH yes my midwife felt bump and baby position at 28 weeks
then Confirmed on scan a week later. I could feel her for sure all kicks were low and that’s changed now. they should be able to tell when the feel and measure bump at your next appointment x

Xur · 11/07/2024 10:20

@longingtobe23 your baby is really cute, the cute little nose on her is just 😻

Mine also went from being head down to, well, midwife said breech, but I think he’s angled, like a moon. 🌙
In the Katherine Graves hypnobirthing course she had a module on baby positions, she made it very clear it’s pointless worrying about baby position at this stage because they can at any point turn around literally overnight, even when it’s close to due date.
I feel a sensation of peace inside when thinking about his position, I think I it will all be alright. 👍🏻

Cat2022 · 11/07/2024 10:28

@RosiePH that sounds the same as me and he is now breech.

He’s also had a growth spurt so gone from 50th to almost 90th centile but that doesn’t worry me as my daughter was 81st centile.

Xur · 11/07/2024 10:49

On a different note I just saw a video on instagram about a couple where the wife is pregnant and she’s been craving sea urchins so her husband takes the boat every morning and goes to dive in the bay to fetch fresh sea urchins for her.
I was just thinking to myself-my husband is so lucky to have me 🙈 🚤

I hope the scan goes well today ❤️

Aww, I’m glad! I was so anxious approaching my second with also undertones of “well, it can’t get much worse than I’ve had before?” 😂 and I genuinely couldn’t of had a better experience. In fact, so good, that I’m sat here almost full term with my third. Don’t underestimate the power of a positive birth, it sucks you back in 🥲🥲😂 a big difference for me was mindset and understanding what a contraction actually is and what my body is doing. This got me through a lot of it. With my first I just panicked a lot and felt clueless and just spiralled. So I have a lot to thank hypnobirthing for (and those dates, I’m sure of it 🤣)

I hope you manage to rewrite your birth experience this time around 🤞🏻 x

Anyone else's partners starting to get a wee bit anxious? My DP has been super chill to date but I think it's starting to hit home for him and he's worrying about how he's going to cope. Obviously a normal way to be feeling about a big life event but I'm not sure the best way to support him with his feelings as at the moment I'm still feeling very chill about it all 😅

Mine has become anxious over the last few days but I think it’s a combination of things.

Firstly I decided to talk to him about what happens if I’m incapacitated at any point and he has to make life-or-death decisions about me and the baby. He hadn’t considered the (vvv remote) possibility that things could go wrong, or that I wouldn’t always be in a position to make decisions. We’ve said we’ll discuss everything in advance so he feels confident speaking for what I would want in a worst case scenario, but he really hadn’t considered that he will potentially have a lot of responsibility when it comes to the birth.

Secondly he’s the one who’s doing all the sums for getting the house ready for the baby, and I think it’s stressing him out because he’s realising how little time we have now to get everything sorted.

He’s also realising how much he’ll miss out on once he’s back at work. He’s been saving all his annual leave so he can use it after paternity leave, but he’s still worrying because he doesn’t want to miss out on anything and doesn’t want to leave me to deal with things on my own.

So it’s all a big combination of stuff. It’s hard for me to support him because my mind is so full with focusing on my diet because of the GD, and with being generally very pregnant! But we are a partnership and I am making sure I tell him every day how grateful I am to have him.

PinkWatermelon88 · 11/07/2024 11:33

Thank you @longingtobe23 - I really really hope they do shift! Glad to hear your baba is in the right place, and really hope they stay where they are haha.

@RosiePH My midwives pick it up during my visits and I've had two scans to confirm (one at 22 weeks and one over the weekend)

RosiePH · 11/07/2024 11:55

Thanks for all the feedback on baby’s position. I think I’m just feeling a bit anxious after being short-changed a midwife appointment (especially when the 28 week one is quite important!). It doesn’t really matter if he is breach or transverse until the end for me as I’ve got a c-section booked.

Do they check ferritin levels at the 28 week blood tests? They only checked haemoglobin at 12 weeks, which was fine, but I have a history or low ferritin and high normal Hb, so iron-deficiency could be missed. I’m absolutely shattered so hoping they’ll check it when I have the 30 week appointment but it’s not at my usual clinic so they might not even have full notes.

WinsandSam · 11/07/2024 13:14

@RosiePH yes I had my bloods done at 28 weeks and part of it was to check iron levels

Cat2022 · 11/07/2024 14:36

@Lillers imy husband changed jobs when Lyla was about 9 months old so he ended up with 3 weeks off then and it was such a lovely time for him to spend with her. In the early days they don’t really do much so might be worth yours thinking about booking some AL when babies a bit older

Lillers · 11/07/2024 14:43

@Cat2022 Luckily his annual leave year runs Jan-December, so he can use everything he’s saved when she’s born in September, he’ll have some time off over Christmas anyway and then we’re planning on him taking some time off in Feb/March. Otherwise I’d absolutely tell him to save some of it for when she’s a bit more interesting!

Cat2022 · 11/07/2024 14:57

@Lillers thats perfect! My husband’s runs Nov- Oct so his should work out well this time too. We are lucky that he can work from home
a couple times a week so he has definitely not missed as much as some sadly do.

Khanga27 · 11/07/2024 15:33

Anyone worried about breech babies

My little one had been in breech at scan I had at 27 weeks and midwife appointment at 29 weeks which made me a bit anxious. However my pregnancy yoga teacher recommended a birthing ball to sit on as better for baby moving in right position than a sofa - not all the time, but a few times a day - even simple things like sitting on one with good posture and bouncing on it or slightly rocking left and right or forward and back helps (I’ve found this to also really help my hips). There are also yoga poses she does such as on all 4s arching back.

I’m now 33 weeks today, and my scan yesterday showed baby was head down and also facing the back which she should be (cephalic position). I was also told by midwife when I’d been worried there was still time for movement right up to 36 weeks.

HRP1990 · 11/07/2024 16:15

@Khanga27 mine has been breech since 20 weeks and I’m now 31.. so I will be getting my pregnancy ball down from the loft this evening and sitting on that to encourage him to flip 🙈

I’m sure someone mentioned a website called Spinning Babies? I haven’t checked that out yet but anything to help him head down I’m all ears!

PinkWatermelon88 · 11/07/2024 16:59

@Khanga27 @HRP1990 yup those exercises are on spinning babies too! I hope they help :) The actual SB routine is quite hard to follow but here is a good Reddit post that basically outlines what the routine is :)

HRP1990 · 11/07/2024 18:09

@PinkWatermelon88 The “standing on your head in a swimming pool” made me laugh. So casual

PinkWatermelon88 · 11/07/2024 18:47

@HRP1990 just a standard activity hahah. I also read of touches being used to shine into your belly and guide the baby to turn…. Depends how far you wanna take it I suppose lol

MudandMoet · 11/07/2024 19:56

So we decided to start to open some presents for baby today. Everyone has wanted us to open them straight away (I've said before, my fam is small but love buying!) and we've said no, we'll wait, but like they've kept saying, she'll not end up in some of them because they'll all need washing as some are newborn and up to 1 month size. This isn't even half of it. Feeling like little girl is going to be spoilt rotten but hoping she gets to wear everything as we had already got a wardrobe full ourselves for her 🫣 This lot is going in the wash tomorrow if the damn rain stops.

Wow @MudandMoet thats some haul! Baba really is well looked after, she'll be the style icon of her baby group :)

We've banned any family/friends buying for this baby this time around cos we were inundated last time and didn't use it all. Baby was happiest in babygrows and truth be told I was still shellshocked from birth to put outfits together haha. This time we've requested meals and vouchers for takeout/cleaners etc.

TripleESept24 · 11/07/2024 21:23

Has anyone been getting Braxton hicks?? Tonight I keep getting sharp sudden cramps that are coming and going.... Which I haven't had yet?

MudandMoet · 11/07/2024 21:30

@PinkWatermelon88 see that's my worry because I hate waste. This baby has been years in the making so I get it, its nice to see them all and we're very grateful but I honestly daren't count how many outfits she's has. I just love to see babies in babygros and not actually in proper clothes too. I want her to be a baby baby for as long as possible because it's not like I'm ever doing this again. They've gifted a fair amount of cash too so that can go towards takeouts 🤣
