Good luck to everyone ttc!

I am a very proud mammy today, we introduced the potty two or three weeks ago just to play with and help LO learn what it is, we're constantly talking about it and today he came up to me and said "poo poo" and started trying to sit on the potty, I helped him get in position and he sat there and did his poo. He still had his nappy on but I'm counting that as a win! It might be a one off but I can't get over it, so clever!

novamama · 23/07/2025 16:53

@Cheetocatthat’s so exciting!!! Isn’t it so incredible ? They can do so much even when they are so little!

We’ve been on EC/ team potty too (for almost one year now though)! Although baby has been poop-trained as I call it for a long while, in the last 10 days or so we’ve gone on “daytime intensive mode for wees” and we now average one wee “accident” every other day. I have to say it’s so satisfying going to the park without a nappy. I love it so much.

That's absolutely amazing, I was interested in EC but with our colic struggles it just wasn't feasible. Do you let baby poop straight into the potty and wash it every time or do you line it or anything? Do you bring a potty to the park? I was thinking of getting a portable potty to bring around when he starts doing wees. It sounds like you are so in tune with your little one and only one wee in their nappy every two days sounds like a dream, you are so close to full on dryness!

We all have covid at the moment, it's so hard, my little boy has so much energy and he doesn't understand why I am not my usual self and why we're not going outside. He feels insecure about how different things are while we're sick so he just wants to breastfeed 24/7 but I am tired and dizzy and can't cope with him doing gymnastics all over me while he feeds.

novamama · 23/07/2025 21:18

@Cheetocat

oh no, that sounds so rubbish! I can’t imagine how challenging it is for all of you. Hope you all feel better soon and that you manage to rest.

My LO is also super attached to me when she’s poorly, and now with the molars coming through her diet is 70% breastmilk again 🙈 hopefully this round passes fast for you all.

Regarding the potty - I don’t line it with anything, she poops in it as it is! We have a couple of the two-parts Ikea ones, which we love. They are inexpensive and the inner part detaches, so it’s easily taken to the bathroom to be dealt with. My mum taught me how to do it as I had no idea. First I put water in the potty from the tap. That detaches and lifts the poo super easily. Then I just pour it in the toilet. 9/10 there is no residue in the potty but if there is, I repeat the rinsing. At the end I spray the potty with a baby disinfectant spray and dry it with toilet paper. Et voilà!

novamama · 23/07/2025 21:32

I forgot to reply regarding portable potty - yes, we have one. We use the oxo portable potty in combination with the reusable silicone liner from potette potty or the bags for airplane travel etc. however for a quick play in the park I don’t bring it. We go to the potty just before leaving and then when we return. We’ve not had accidents in the park yet but if we did, we’d just go home to change.

msp2023 · 26/07/2025 09:09

So incredible how many of you have started introducing a potty!
I must admit I've not even thought about it properly yet!

Can I ask which bottle everyone uses to give milk in at this age? LO can use a cup but sometimes spills / prefers a straw cup especially when tired before bed.

Hi all,
little man has recently started to hate having his hair washed. He gets so upset now I just don’t know what’s happened to make him hate it.

have any of you experienced this or have any tips to try? I don’t want to make him petrified of having a bath

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 03/08/2025 20:24

@CheeseAndCrackersxIs he sat up for it?

I lay DD down straight away, wash her hair and everything else then I sit her up to play.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 03/08/2025 20:54

@Sunshineclouds11he stands 🙈 he refuses to sit also at the min. It’s becoming quite a mare!

Sorry you're going through this, it's very hard. My little boy is the same, he is hating water on his head and hating lying back in the bath. When he was screaming every time we switched to only giving him showers for about two weeks and washing his hair as little as possible. I'd wipe it with a wash cloth to wet it, rub in a tiny bit of shampoo and one quick blast with the shower head to rinse. He still doesn't like it but that improved things a lot.

Anyone else's little one going through a sleep regression? During the past week my son has been waking up at really random times when he had been sleeping 10/11 hours straight for months. He woke up at 10pm and 4:30am tonight. Other nights he's woken at 00:30 and 01:30, absolutely screaming. I don't get it.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 15/08/2025 11:56

@Cheetocat often when we’ve had the waking up screaming in the night it’s been linked to his teeth cutting. Now all 4 molars have cut that’s eased for a while now 😊 but I know your little one is a bit further along with his teething than mine.

Anyone reckon they know whether their bub is right or left handed yet? I think so but I don’t wanna be wrong if it’s too early as unsure when you truly know

DD is going between both but probably more prominent with her left.
My DS is lefty.

What’s he like waking from naps? Cos 4 days in a row now my little one has woke from his naps hysterical 🙈

He does not cry waking up from his naps but he is very needy, before I even pick him up he is saying "more milk please" over and over again and then he gives me big tights hugs when I am carrying him out of the room. He used to be a bit more nonchalant. Plus I have to actually wake him at 3pm about 50 percent of the time lately, which I find odd.

novamama · 28/08/2025 21:25

We are going through a sleep regression too and definitely teething pain as well. LO has one more molar to cut through and her canines are coming now, so I really hope it will be better soon.

For example tonight she completely refused dinner and has been extremely irritable with no clear “want” or fix. Didn’t want up in the arms, but also did not want to sit down, nor in her chair, nor to play, nor to read, dance, sing etc. I exhausted all of the suggestions for her favourite activities. Nothing improved the mood. A bit like the newborn witching hours, but now with a toddler… couldn’t even brush her teeth because the non-provoked screaming was as severe as the one after the 12month 4xvaccinations. Barely managed to put her to sleep BFing.

Sleep wise, yesterday she woke up at 21:30 all of a sudden as if it was 7AM and wouldn’t go back to sleep. Other recent days we’ve had 5AM wake-ups-it’s been all over the place really. She’d also wake up crying from teething pain. Calpol seems to reduce her discomfort, but Calpol is another battle as LO hates it.

novamama · 28/08/2025 21:28

Forgot to add that the neediness in the night has also manifested, so much so that 2 nights ago LO did not want to drop the breast all night and I was too shattered to set boundaries, and now I’ve got mastitis 😩 haven’t had mastitis for more than one year, how fun!!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 08/09/2025 10:43

Canine teething is worse than molar teething 🫠

Has anyone started their little one out on a balance bike? My little boy is having so much fun with his but I'm a bit lost on how to help him make progress.

Also has anyone cut their little boys hair? Did they sit well for it? What style did you go for?

Sunshineclouds11 · 10/09/2025 08:32

My DD loves her bike!

with boys hair; going off my oldest; get him used to haircuts young and regular.
there are some child friendly salons around, some barbers tend to be good with kids.
he will sit on your knee to start.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 12/09/2025 17:47

May I ask what type of balance bikes your LO’s have ? I think I may get DS 1 for Xmas as his main present 🙂

My little boy has a 10" Btwin RunRide bike from Decathlon, also got his helmet there previously, I love that the helmets are adjustable with a dial!
We were just talking about Christmas last night and we might get him a scooter. I know he just got a bike but he's also interested in scooters and to me, as long as its something that's getting him to move his body and play outdoors it's a good thing.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 13/10/2025 16:10

Hi all 🙂 just thought I’d check in and see how you and your toddlers are doing? 🙂
