@Ihatewinding I'm actually vegan so I already don't have dairy by default, we supplement with formula but he has lactase drops in every bottle. I have a tonne of soy in my diet and I can't really cut it out easily though. My letdown is fine, it used to be faster but seems to have regulated, he yelps because swallowing the milk gets his digestive system going and the wind starts moving down, bless him.

Nervous for 4 month jabs tomorrow, I'm sure he'll be fine but it will be my first time taking him for an appointment without my partner.

Ihatewinding · 11/06/2024 12:37

@Cheetocat I wonder if you could try a hypoallergenic formula for the formula bottles you do for a few weeks and then if any improvement it might be worth trying to exclude soy? It does get limiting ngl but found some decent oat and coconut substitutes here after dealing with 2.5 years of milk and soy free meals for my daughter and I at least have a bit of a repertoire. But appreciate can do without any extra mental load when have a baby.

Your comment about his symptoms starting on feeding remind of the first hypoallergenic bottle we gave my daughter. She took it then stopped after about 15-20 seconds and smiled then downed the rest. I wasn't expecting it as it's foul (saying it's comparable to dog food by smell is complimentary!) Obvs with still having it yourself it would be harder to tell. She never did the smiling thing again but breaks my heart to think the previous formula was probably causing her discomfort. Some babies won't take it due to the taste but can add vanilla extract to make more palatable. Due to the different making instructions she was starving when we tried the first bottle as was faffing tbf so might have helped acceptance 🙈

Hope you don't feel like I'm lecturing or pressuring you but your post really resonated with me 😢

My little boy gets a really bad belly after the vaccines and that makes him go off the boob as well. It's strange what different babies are like, he will never comfort feed either. If he farts/poos when feeding that's it he's done with that boob, doesn't matter if been feeding 1/3/5 minutes or more. I declined the second rotavirus as his weight gain dropped after the initial one and the boob rejection affected my supply after 24 poos in 7 days so nearly half his feeds (use the Huckleberry app for logging stuff). We have the 16 week jabs next week and hope he's not too bad. Just need to remember to take Calpol in a syringe with me this time for the men B as he fell asleep on way home and then had a high fever due to delaying giving it! I don't find he's too bad having the actual injections though so hopefully will go smoothly 🤞🏻

RachLeeds · 11/06/2024 14:07

@LavenderSweetPea yep, me too. The hair loss has definitely slowed down so fingers crossed it starts growing back soon for both of us🤞

anony1111 · 11/06/2024 19:55

@Ihatewinding 2 years after birth?! I hope I don't suffer for that long! I have to admit I am definitely overweight and need to lose weight but like you say it's quite tricky when your sleep deprived. I have lost around a stone already but I'm really not eating as well as I should be.
I have a super clingy boy and it definitely takes its toll on my pelvis on his clingier days.
I keep meaning to book in the GP but it's such a task these days to get a appointment 🙈
Some days I struggle to stand up out of bed on a morning, it really affects my hips and lower back since giving birth.

You can give him calpol before you go in too, then it kicks in and no challenge with being upset / asleep after.

@anony1111 yup 2 years postpartum, got slightly better initially then worse with the slinging and then worse as gained 2 stone in the first year, then better as carried less and switched to a job where didn't do 12.5h shifts mostly on my feet but the weight loss after 18m and starting exercising was probs the most effective tbh.

Defo get to the GP cos will be a routine physio referral now I think so likely won't be quick. I was under antenatally and they had open access for up to 3 months postpartum so could ring and book in without needing a new referral until then. The exercises, even with me being a bit lax due to baby, life, etc. have really helped and just got given a resistance band to try work on strength further. I find side sleeping defo aggravates my hips and pelvis but I wake myself and the baby up with snoring when on my back 🙈 hopefully weight loss will help with that too...

@newmumabouttown great tip, thanks! ☺️

anony1111 · 14/06/2024 10:08

@Ihatewinding yes side sleeping definitely aggravates them both for me too. Oh no that's not ideal, I normally sleep on my front/side but mostly wake up on my side so in pain most mornings. I really thought it would go once baby was born as it did last time 😩
Hopefully I can get in with the GP asap!
Although not sure when I will fit exercises in 🤯 lone parenting has me running round like a headless chicken 24/7 🤣🙈

We are trying out a formula for CMPA and baby hates the taste of it 😭 His condition hasn't improved with it either. I'm exhausted, we've been trying everything.

A lot of the CMPA milks are really thin so they can trigger reflux/silent reflux. Have you tried lactose free milk? It really helps with wind as it’s a lot easier for babies to digest. SMA lactose free formula tastes quite nice and my son is really settled now and loves the formula!

He takes lactase which is supposed to make digestion easier but it hasn't changed anything 😢

Oh I feel you!

took my dad a month to meet my daughter. All rest of babies he was over at the hospital with my mum. He then moans why I didn’t make an effort on Father’s Day? Fuck off!

Does anyone else constantly feel in a rage? I can't help it and I'm not towards baby but anyone or anything else and I'm like a dragon 🙈

YES! I was absolutely fuming last night when my baby was having another bout of trapped wind and I found it so hard to calm down, I kept stopping to take deep breaths and reminding myself that being so worked up wouldn't help either of us! I just have such a short fuse lately.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 19/06/2024 11:23

The smallest thing tips me nowadays @Cheetocat. If my partner left me for someone else right now I honestly wouldn't blame him & I've said that to him cos I know I'm just a bitch but I can't stop 😂

When baby is having a melt down cos over tired I've had to put my AirPods in to block it out cos it makes my anxiety go through the roof especially if I'm holding him and it's down my ear 🙈

Have you spoken to anyone about this, it sounds awful and maybe some therapy could help. I find when I’m like this it’s because of stress and anxiety, and CBT was really useful for some techniques to try not feel so tense.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 19/06/2024 18:59

@newmumabouttown I'll go to the drs if I carry on. I'm hoping it will settle soon. I'm either angry or crying, only smile at little man cos I don't want him seeing mummy any other way

@CheeseAndCrackersx I'm finding myself with the rage way more often than normal, mainly with poor DP but everything he does (or doesn't do) infuriates me. I put it down to the sleep deprivation finally getting to me. It's horrible and I'm fully aware of it, I just can't stop. Funnily enough I'm not like this either the children at all.

Ihatewinding · 20/06/2024 09:48

@Cheetocat sorry you're still having such a tough time, I know they say can add a few drops of vanilla essence and/or mix with expressed milk and gradually reduce the ratio as gets used to taste. But if it's too much then maybe park it for now?
I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice tbh as my baby went full nursing strike last week and I ended up with mastitis, managed to pump through it and seemed like was over and then out of blue just complete breast refusal and no coaxing back. So now on bottles with mix of formula and expressed milk. Had been stressed about his feeding and weight gain more recently and think was affecting my letdown, which stopped happening in time for him to stay latched on the boob by the end. Had oversupply at the start and don't think he liked when it the faster flow settled down tbh, especially when harder work with his tongue tie reattaching.
I do hope things get a bit easier for you soon 🤞🏻

Ihatewinding · 20/06/2024 09:57

It's really reassuring to read about the raging! I've been having this as well. I think we must be programmed not to be angry at our babies and so need to release the frustrations of sleep deprivation and baby related stresses on those around us, typically our partners getting the brunt. I didn't even have the headspace to sort him a father's day card or present with all the feeding difficulties we were having in the last week or so 😢

I have found since relaxing more into bottle feeding I have been a bit better but that may just be the extra sleep haha. Hopefully when settled into new routine I will stop lashing out and can be a better partner 🤞🏻

So maybe combo of sleep deprivation build up and a hormonal shift around this stage too if affecting a few of us?

CheeseAndCrackersx · 20/06/2024 10:47

It's definitely sleep deprivation with me.

I guess it just pees me off more when he's there next to me snoring away and I'm up numerous times from about 4am with baby at the min. Admittedly not for too long each time cos he soon goes back to sleep but god the broken sleep is a killer

Not that I know of.

Something to do with the chemicals in it I think.

Thanks for the new thread!

Don't get me started on bloody grandparent (in law) favouritism!! My MIL will not stop comparing my baby to her other GC and saying she will be exactly like them. It's pissing me off no end, she literally can't go 2 minutes without yet another comparison.
